Thank you for the advise angel. I am lucky enough to have a five year daughter already...it took me two years exactly to concieve..we also had unexplained infertility...had all the tests...all fine..no pso,s which i have been diagnosed with now...then i fell straight after a laparoscopy which came back fine. Doc says it was either a kink in my tubes that unblocked when they shot the dye through or it was all in my head and i just relaxed after getting the all clear!! This time we have been trying for ten months..lets hope the clomid works...a friend of mine conceived on it straight away. My partner has identical twin sisters and non identical brother and sister so there is a good chance of twins anyway...so i think my chances of a multiple might be quite high!! Good luck and thanks again xxxx

Hi Angel008 and Looplou

Thanks so much for your messages! your are both FAB.

Am so so relieved to hear the side effects aren't quite as horrendous as I was beginning to think....

Loopylou - really appreciate the thought that any side effects won't last for too long!

Angel008 - am again vvvvvvvvvv relieved that I was probably working myself up unnecessarily. Don't get me wrong - I know that whatever the side effects, any positive outcome would make any side effects worth while... but even so the cowardly lion in me was getting wobbly knees. Am also relieved to know I am not the only one whose only real life confidante is DH. Phew... I am not a mentalist afterall...

Also being as I have been daft enough to choose the arguably one of the longest and impractial nicknames the abbr of "Boo" seems a good one!

love to all
Boo

oops meant t write day 21 lol

pixistar · 08/08/2008 12:52

Hi Everyone,

Hope all's well haven't been on for ages. Good new's about Hopeful, wasn't it. I go for my day 21 bloods on Monday - I hate blood tests .... I'm getting worked up over that already!

I didn't really get any side effects from my first round, the only thing that I did get was blurry vision . Seems to have gone back to normal now though - thank god .

Don't think I ov'd this time though, I might be wrong.

Reading some of the earlier posts, I have to say that I have felt like that. I thought about just giving up. You start to feel really paranoid & ttc just takes over your whole life. I started to home in on every single thing. Thinking that it could be a sign that I was PG. So I have decided just to get on with my life. I was finding it so emotional & stressful. They all say that the more stressed you are the least likely your chances are of conceiving? I'll still continue to ttc & take the clomid. I think the idea is your meant to enjoy making babies, but it was becoming a chore. I don't want it to be like that. I'm not going to let it take over anymore. I was starting to feel so depressed & that I was letting my DH down. To the point that I was actually making my self ill. Had a really good chat with a friend that had a lot of problem ttc & had her daughter last year through icsi IVF. She really put things into prepective. I feel so much better now. I totally understand when some of you say it's only you & your DH. It was just me & mine. But I'm glad that the one friend I have told understands. I know if I told my Mum she would not have a clue. What it feels like as she has not been there. & that is why this thread is great because we are all in the same boat. x

sarashy · 08/08/2008 13:59

pixistar- i know how you feel about telling your mum. i decided to tell mine and now wish i hadnt. She thinks its a bad idea that you shouldnt take drugs to have a baby that if it doesnt happen its not ment to happen. she just doesnt understand. she decided she wanted me, came of pill, never had a period and got me. so how can she understand. I will def be keeping things between me n my dh from now on.

On to bad things, Did anyone see gmtv news this morning about research into clomid?

not to put a bad spin on our hope, but it said that research has proved it doesnt help.
They want to come on here n read some of our sucess stories.
x

loopylou99 · 08/08/2008 14:23

Lets hope we all prove the doctors claiming that clomid doesnt work wrong!!xx

Wallacex · 08/08/2008 16:36

Hi Ladies

Thanks for some of your messages, after a chat with my mum and DH, i am going to carry on and complete all six cycles if needs be. Im not as paranoid and obsessed this time round just taking things as they come.

Anyway, Pixistar i too heard the news on clomid but i heard it on the BBC news, which wasn't what i wanted to hear and exactly how much research have these people done - perhaps we should introduce them to this thread and the success stories on here - whatever they say they are wrong.

hopingandpraying · 08/08/2008 17:23

Hi Everyone, Im new to this, been ttc for 3yrs now and only recently found out not ovulating and had a HSG and all is fine just stated clomid 3 days ago, only side efects so far is headaches at night, it is so true you lok for side effects until your DH says well you have just had a hot bath thats why you are warm, makes you step back and chill. Really looking forward to chatting and getting to know you all.xx

Sarah1109 · 08/08/2008 18:00

Hi all,

I'm feeling much better now than I did a few days ago.

I'm not taking my Clomid this month cos it makes me feel like shit - to put it bluntly - and I didn't want to feel like that on holiday. I go away for a fortnight next weekend so I'm gonna try and relax and chill out - and then I'll probably start my final round when I come back.

Hope you're all OK.

xx

pixistar · 08/08/2008 18:11

Hey Sarah,

Where are you off too, some where nice I hope? Well you never know once you relax & chill it might happen with out you having to take the clomid. I hope it does for you. Ican't believe that study on clomid.

boogliewoogliepiggy · 08/08/2008 19:21

Hi all, Having been prescribed Clomid by one GP (no tests or anything - just prescribed) to start tomorrow (Sat Aug 9th), I was seeing another GP (at the same practice) today (about something else entirely). He saw the clomid info my details on the computer screen - I am now not starting clomid tomorrow as I had been about to... The second GP said he is not happy and tests should have been done first. So I have instead had some bloods done and am having more done in 21 days time... then we'll relook at Clomid apparently. This has left me feeling rather odd as was all geared up to start clomid tomorrow and had been daydreaming about the possible positive outcome... (yes I know I'm prob being foolishly optimistic and naive - but I can't help it). Hmmmm. Good luck to everyone else who is on Clomid!
My question though is this: how many of you have been given tests before trying Clomid and how many were just given it? I can't help but be tempted to start tomorrow (as I would have been going to) as feels like have been ttc for ages and this was finally a step forward. I have it sitting here afterall... but if I take it then theres no point in going for the other blood test as it will be wrongly reflecting what goes on when I'm not on Clomid... What would you guys do?????????? All thoughts very very very very welcome. I am in a total quandary - which GP is right?!?! Why can't Docs just agree Boo/BWP XXX

cheekymonkeywanted · 08/08/2008 19:51

hi boo, how very confusing for you! i just had a 21 day blood test at my local gps to see if i was ovulating, was meant to do a couple of months worth but didnt have periods so couldnt. then he just put us through to specialist, she said i think you have pcos (didnt actually scan) just had afew symtoms and bobs your uncle Clomid was prescribed...

I would of thought you should at least have bloods just to confirm that you are not ovulating before going on clomid.

It does annoy me though how no other tests have been done, you just get 6 months worth of clomid, if that doesnt work THEN you get further tests....why not just try to find the problem at the start, rather than having to wait 6 months trying this, 6 months trying that....

cheekymonkeywanted · 08/08/2008 20:21

by the way just been readng all this crap on clomid, although they are the experts??? surely i wasnt ovulating before and now with clomid im ovulating that must increase my/our changes of getting pregnant to start with.... so how can they say it doesnt do anything? just a thought!

pixistar · 08/08/2008 23:07

Hi Boo,

WOW, that is confusing! I can't believe that the 1st doctor prescribed you with a drug, without testing that you need it first. In my opinion I would take the 2nd doctors advice. Simply because they are being prefessional & are prepared to make sure that clomid is the right drug for you. I had to go for random blood tests & a scan for about 3 months before they even talked about prescribing me with clomid. It turns out that I have a very low pregesterione level & that is why I don't ov. I know it's a set back for you in that you may have to wait a bit longer. Which if it were me I'd be extreamly dissapointed . But they don't actually know if there is a problem, do they? Both you & your DH should be tested. My DH had to have has side of things checked, before they even started testing me. They should also be monitoring you whilst on clomid aswell. Clomid is a great drug (despite what the papers say) but it isn't for everyone & can cause complications.

Sorry to go on but I'm in a state of shock!
Let us know what you decide to do?

Wallacex · 09/08/2008 08:44

Hi Boo

I agree with Pixistar - take the 2nd GPs advice. I was referred to a fertility specalist by my GP, both my husband and I had tests, he was fine as I knew he would be. I had a hystrosalpinogram to check my tubes weren't blocked and a blood test. My tubes were fine but my bloods indicated PCOS which is why i was put on metformin and clomid. Hope this helps.

Hi hopeandpraying - welcome to the thread -what days do you have take the clomid? I don't have any symptoms while taking clomid but leading up to your period watch out for the symptoms. Most of us on here have had pregnancy symptoms but are not actually pregnant, it seems the clomid plays havoc with your hormones and system.

boogliewoogliepiggy · 09/08/2008 09:09

Morning Everyone
Thanks so so much for your replies cheekymonkeywanted, Pixistar and Wallacex. I think in my heart of hearts I knew the 2nd GP was being far more professional (he has been at the surgery since I was a little squirt of 8 - so I know him well and trust him). The first GP is a new guy, I hadn't seen him before and I admit I was a tad surprised (in fact slightly ) he prescribed it so readily. Anyway, the upshot of all this is that I am being a grown up, and not a foot stamping "but I want it NOW" Violet Elizabeth... and I am not taking the clomid this month and am going to wait and see what the tests say. Thanks for your replies - you all definitely helped me remember that this whole process needs one to try a keep a sensible head on! Its not always easy though. Have a great weekend guys! Boo XXX

Angel008 · 09/08/2008 22:29

Hi loopylou99,
Your most welcome, That?s great that you had your daughter after lap and dye, hope that?s all it took for me too but lap and dye didn?t help me apart from showing my tubes were not blocked. Hope clomid works for you and you get twins, that would be great! Xx

Hi Haylz
Good luck for the 19th, hope tests show you have ovulated this month, fingers crossed. Xx

Hi Booglie
Your most welcome, that?s were here for, moral support. Lol no your not a mentalist, its just best in my opinion you keep some things away from family and friends especially if its things they really don?t need to know and for me this is something that would worry and upset my family as they know I have always longed for a child so if they heard it wasn?t happening it would just be awkward and I don?t want that. And yes Boo is better, what on earth were you thinking when you chose that name lol. Its tooooooo loooong!

Hi Debz
When do you get you results for your bloods?? What was the last result? How are you?xx

Hi Pixistar,
Yeah it was great news about hopeful. Why do you think you haven?t ovulated this time? When is your blood test and what is icsi IVF? I have only told one friend too so atleast there is someone there who im close to who I can talk to and someone who knows me so I can talk face to face. That really helps. As long as you can trust that person not to tell anyone then that?s ok.

Angel008 · 09/08/2008 23:09

Hi Wallacex and Sarashy

What on earth was this news on GMTV. I have tried googling it and checking GMTVs website but found nothing. I haven?t seen it just heard you both talking about it on here and im quite shocked. Where on earth did they get their info from, as if it didn?t work people wouldn?t fall pregnant on it after not being able to convieve for so long. I think we should all write to them or email them and try and find out where this research has come from and how they can back up ehat they have said when it just shows it works and also whats this about them reading messages on mumsnet???????? I don?t understand.

Wallacex - Great to know your continuing with all your cycles of clomid. Good luck. Just checked bbc news. It sounds a load of rubbish really! Not taking any notice of it. Just another way of nhs trying to save money.

Sarashy ? I know how you must be feeling after telling your mum, I have told mine many things before which she doesn?t agree with and wish I hadn?t. If it does get too much just say you aren?t taking clomid anymore and will just wait and see if it happens. Good luck with your day 21 blood tests, mine are next Monday.

Hi hopingandpraying
Good luck with your 1st round of clomid. Really hope this works for you. 3 years is a long time, but if you don?t mind me asking why has it taken so long for doctors to realise you are not ovulating and to start you on clomid. Don?t be looking for side effects lo live tried that one haha, there aren?t really many but were all different. I got the heaches at night too but after the first month I never got them again. I have just finished 3rd cycle and am on day 14. Good luck once again xx

Hi Sarah
Hope the break from clomid works for you, Good luck and have a nice time when you go away xx

Hi boogie
This isnt right at all. So one GP made one decision and another made the complete opposite. But the second in my eyes is right. Tests do need to be done just to rule out certain conditions and so doctors know what it is they are treating you for. It is right to have tests done. I had a lap and dye also had blood tests to check ovulation and hormone levels. Don?t worry and let it get you down lets just wait and see what the tests come back as. Have you had any at all?????????? Whats happens now? What tests are they referring you for????

Angel008 · 10/08/2008 00:37

Hi Fatfarm and Marcy08,

Good luck with clomid. Hope it works for you, fingers crossed. xx

Sarah1109 · 10/08/2008 08:39

Hi Angel,

Thanks for your message. Icsi IVF is where they take one egg and one sperm and inject the sperm straight into the egg. They then let that develop in a petri dish for a couple of days before implanting it into the womb. It is the most expensive form of IVF and can cost upto 7 or 8 thousand!!

Next stage down is IVF where they harvest as many eggs as possible. They then take all the good sperm and put them all together in a dish and let them fight it out. From all that take they will implant the best 2 back into the womb. (At this point you can choose to have the remaining ones frozen for future use). However, these ones would not be as good quality as the ones they choose to use first of all. This level of IVF is upto about 5 thousand!

Lowest stage is the IUI where they inject good sperm directly into the womb at ovulation and you hope for the best!!

Sorry if you know some of this already - I've been doing some research!!

Hope everyone's OK. Babydust to all.

xx
