Toby this is random but I was just reading through classics like a saddo and was crying with laughter at your comments on the lemon drizzle thread. Brilliant.

TobyLerone · 14/02/2014 17:50

Oh, I loved that thread!

MrsVDB · 14/02/2014 18:06

I'm another one thinking about getting a dummy soon, Henry falls asleep feeding and likes to keep the teat in his mouth

Just had a nap with Henry when hadnt planned too and now running late to get us both ready for our meal out.

Ventured out for the first time today and who knew crossing roads etc was so scary! Had lunch in the cafe and he slept through it all then did the loudest smelliest poo as soon as we got through front door so hoping hell sleep ok tonight too. Although he's pretty lively now as I'm trying to get ready

Pidgy · 14/02/2014 20:14

Love dummies! Lara just starting to properly take one and it really helps settle her. Still need to get DS to part with his but to be fair haven't tried yet as it's so handy and makes life easier which I need at the moment.

Altered agree about those nose suckers being big amongst the French. In a previous role at work I managed a contractor that made those and vials of saline for babies noses. Very popular and we sold loads in France! Didn't even market them in Uk! Oh, and suppositories were also a big seller in France but not so much here!

BookTart · 14/02/2014 20:36

I'm in the UK and I have a nose sucker. I'm desperate to use it (because I am rank about stuff like that :) ) but I'm holding off in case I accidentally suck her brain out or something!

fryingpantoface · 14/02/2014 20:42

Book - we used it a lot with ds1. Sadly threw it out so need to buy another one.

Pidgy · 15/02/2014 03:03

book and frying are they ones where you suck a tube with your mouth and the snot gets caught in another part? If so, where did you get them from? They seem great if they actually work.

fryingpantoface · 15/02/2014 07:58

I had the one which looked like a turkey baster.

however you can get both from boots

TarkaTheOtter · 15/02/2014 08:23

I'm back at the hospital having my postnatal diabetes test. Part of our fence came down in the storm last night so I was a bit worried about driving here but wasn't too bad. Saw a few sideways trees though. I hope everyone else hasn't been badly affected.

MrsVDB · 15/02/2014 08:32

Good luck tarka I haven't looked outside yet but am expecting fence/ shed to be gone. Wind was awful

Pidgy · 15/02/2014 09:09

Hope all is ok tarka.

Very glad we got the trees in our garden topped and trimmed earlier this winter. Wind was awful last night.

Sorry for the personal question... Is anyone still bleeding after 4 weeks?
I'm meant to take DS to toddler swimming today but still bleeding. Going to have to use a tampon as DH is a nervous non swimmer so don't want that to rub off on DS. Don't want to miss the lesson either as they are bloody expensive!

TobyLerone · 15/02/2014 10:57

I'm still bleeding a tiny bit at 5 1/2 weeks, pidgy.

Sultanajo · 15/02/2014 11:11

Well after watching the neighbours fences on both sides of us getting mullered, ours finally came a cropper last night. How annoying! We only had it fixed recently! Grrr!

book I too am too scared to use a nose sucker.....despite being desperate to help Henry with his mucous. I have also stopped using the saline drops after my GP told me when she used them on one of her babies she turned blue and couldn't breathe!

Just popping out to get more formula while DH snuggles with Henry on the sofa... Hmmm... Why am I going and not DH in this shitty weather? Something wrong there....

enormouse · 15/02/2014 11:12

pidgy I bled for ages with DS1 (5-6weeks or so). It was pretty grim but it seems better this time round (bleeding now intermittent).

I don't have the turkey nose baster sucker thingy but I do have nasosal drops and snuffle babe rub. I feel like I have a pharmacy.

Weather was awful yesterday, even a small snowfall in our village but it seems to be nice today.

After having a lovely day yesterday, Cal seems to be a fussy bugger today. Woke at 6, has not settled since. Gassy, refusing the boob, pooing and fussing - I had a very small amount of scotch last night (were going to glasgow in the summer to watch Derren Brown live), could it have gotten into my breast milk?

Luckily, DS1 is on better form. Running around in his gruffalo onesie. Though still ill and teething.

fryingpantoface · 15/02/2014 11:12

So i thought my period had started, but the bleeding is brown and sludgy. So i think it's still post partum bleeding. Henry was 5 weeks on Wed just gone

TarkaTheOtter · 15/02/2014 11:14

I'm still bleeding a bit at 6 weeks and bled on and off until 8 weeks with dd.

enormouse · 15/02/2014 11:15

sultana have you tried setting a bowl of water over a radiator/heater? A makeshift humidifier can help a little with congestion.

MrsVDB · 15/02/2014 11:16

enormouse I looked up the alcohol thing on nhs as I've had the odd glass of wine and 1 unit should be out your system within 3 hours so wouldn't be in breast milk but if you feed/ express before that it could be. Apparently can make it taste funny but I wouldn't worry too much

enormouse · 15/02/2014 11:23

Thanks MrsV. It was a tiny measure - enough to cover the base of a small glass- I had last night (around 8pm) so it's probably out of my system by now.

Cal is almost asleep now so fx for a nice long nap.

Sunshineseeker80 · 15/02/2014 11:37

pidgy also still bleeding here after 5 weeks. Mostly v little but if I do a lot in the day it tends to increase in the evening

enormouse think you will be absolutely fine, have a look at this Drinking when breastfeeding which was recommended in BF club by advisor. The BF network are also apparently a better source of info about what tablets / prescriptions you can take when feeding, far more informed than most GPs

So I bought some Tommy Tippee dummies yesterday and Emily just spat it out! Apparently only a pinkie will do. Did others just keep trying?? However I don't care because DH who usually gives Emily her bottle at 11ish did the feed at 3am so I slept for 6 hours solid nearly in the spare room for the first time in over 2 months and I am so happy today Grin Grin Grin

And the best bit is he has a new found understanding of what my nights have been like for the last month and what it is like to be me tired Smile

TobyLerone · 15/02/2014 11:39

Very interesting blog post on alcohol/breastmilk. I will never read any other info on drinking while breastfeeding in case it isn't as advantageous Wink

MrsGSR · 15/02/2014 11:57

Haven't posted for ages, I hope everyone is well, not too tired and the weather isn't too bad!

Leah is really gassy and seems to be in pain with it at times, we're giving her infacol but according to the nhs website she could be reacting to diet drinks. I've been living off diet lemonade recently so I've given that up and hoping for an improvement!

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 15/02/2014 12:53

Hello everyone!
We managed not only the stroganoff but also lemon tart afterwards, both eating at the same time, with both hands! Then she let us watch a film with only two interruptions! I think she's a hopeless romantic.

Went to bf cafe yesterday, she went batshit, and I cried. Which was fun, but actually really helpful, as she IS noisier than other babies (I was pretty sure, but thought I was being paranoid). The bf lady said I was latching her well, and if she's gaining weight, not to worry if it didn't seem "perfect".

We also have congestion, been trying olbas oil on a flannel on the radiator, seems to help a bit, but she didn't sleep well. Getting nose sucker and saline drops today.

mrsV that's pretty lame. Can't he get out of nights out?

Pidgy · 15/02/2014 12:56

Liking that article Toby!
Have to admit I've had a few glasses of wine. Thought it might help her sleep ... It didn't, but was very nice nonetheless.

It seems I'm pretty normal then re: bleeding. Have no idea how long I bled with DS. My brain is a sieve.

MrsVDB · 15/02/2014 13:45

Thanks for the link toby makes me feel a bit more confident about the odd glass half bottle last night which I'm having. Henry doesn't seem to mind

humpty I'm sure he could if he wanted to but as I'm ok he doesn't feel he needs to and I don't want to make a fuss (relationship is a bit strained at the moment as it is :( )
