Good Morning all.
Im 38 weeks pg with my first, and getting very very nervous! Wasnt nervous throughout entire pregnancy when anyone would ask if I was scared I would always say no. Now its all I can think about!.
The thought of not knowing when its gonna happen is the worst!
Im also scared of being overdue dont know why but it just really worries me.
Im on maternity leave now and its probably because I have nothing else to occupy my mind.
Any advice to get through the last couple weeks?

appyday · 02/09/2006 12:03

Good Morning, just.
Redz - clean things, sleep, check hospital bag.Over and over and over....
Pol feel so and for you,can I come and give your DP a good shake? Or shall all your lovely hormonal September friends just descend on him en masse?
1B1B - oh Pants! I felt a bit like it may start last night then by this morning nothing, so you must be absolutely tearing your hair out. Give that LO a stern talking to about how little choice it has at the end of the day so it might as well just GET ON WITH IT!
Can't sit down any longer, catch up later.

Myrtle1 · 02/09/2006 12:31

Redz - this is my first too! I finished work last week and have found since being off work and being at home alone, I've got more time to think and worry about not only the birth but actually having a little baby to look after - everything is going to change so much. One of my friends keeps reassuring me that women go through labour all the time so it must be bearable so I'm just trying to remember that.

Liquid - thanks for pointing me in the direction of Yahoo, I'm going to go and have a look at the birth plans now

Pol - Sorry you're having a hard time. I hope today is a better day for you.

mandaz · 02/09/2006 14:08

Pol - so sorry you're going through such a stressful time with your DH. I totally understand about wanting to own at least part of a house as opposed to renting. I hope you can get things sorted out and I think it's worth saying to your DH that you don't need the added stress of rows at this stage in your pg. The last thing you need is high bp on top of everything.

Petrified - I think the mw visits vary from person to person. If you are deemed a low risk pg then as far as I know you see the mw every 2 weeks up to 38 weeks then weekly after that. My GP's have an antinatal clinic every Wednesday which you can go to and I've been in there recently even though I wasn't supposed to see anyone until the next week but I was worried about swellings etc. It may be worth asking at your GP's to see if they have a similar clinic where you can go and ask all the questions you have. Otherwise, contact your antinatal clinic at the hospital you're going to have LO in and see if they can see you or speak to you.

Bella - glad you're ok!

1B1B - I'm getting totally frustrated with waiting and I haven't had any signs of labour yet so I can imagine how frustrated you are! Hope things get moving again for you soon.

I don't get to Ikea very often but totally enjoyed trekking round the other day. I just wish they'd put some windows in my local one! It's all artificial lighting and feels like you're walking round a rabbit warren! I was quite proud that I only spent £1.25 on a toy tidy too!

As for LO, I have noticed a definite change in the way it's lying. Before, I could feel lumps in the sides of my tummy but now it seems to be lying in a straight line down the middle and quite high up near my ribs. It's weird because it feels like the sides of my tummy have deflated! I'm hoping that it's a sign that things are about to move as the head is now engaged

liquidclocks · 02/09/2006 14:40

Do you go to the Leeds ikea Mandaz - that is the worst ikea I've ever been to! I remember coming out and feeling physically sick - poor DH, I'd promised to drive home asit was me that wanted to go - and of course I didn't, made him do it.

Redz - hi! My best advice for the final weeks of pg are to spendlots oftime shaving your legs, getting your hair done, manicure, eyebrows shaped - whatever you're in to because there'll be no more of it for a long while! Also plan to do loadsof really nice things in the 10 days following your due date - sods law you'll deliver and won't be able to do them, and if that doesn't work you've got lots of nice things to do while you wait!

Pol - hope today brings calmer conversations with your DH and his gets his head out of the clouds

Just looked at my bump size:expected birth weight chart and wish I hadn't - expecting 9lbs 2oz! (I'm only 5'3" - no fair!)

homemama · 02/09/2006 15:27

Hi girls,
Sorry you're still here, 1B1B! Sounds like we have a few others on their way too!

I should get a firm date for CS on Mon. Still can't help but feel a little at the prospect especially when you lot are reminding me of all the excitement of labour.

LC, Leeds is an awful Ikea. The best I've been to is Warrington. They added an extra M56 junction just to take you off to it and a huge M&S. I've never had trouble parking and never felt like I was being pushed and squashed all the way round. The one is North London was my worst journey ever. It took 2hours on the approach road and parking and when we got inside it was like being on the terraces of a football match so unless you were prepared to push, you couldn't see anything.
I hated living in London with a passion. We've lived in Bristol, Manchester and Glasgow and I loved all three cities but just couldn't get on with London. Mind you, we now live in an stupidly expensive part of the Home Counties which is just dull so I don't know what's worse.

Sorry ladies, that sounds like a rant. I think I'm just having one of those days were I'm being nostalgic about living in a city centre appartment and having the theatre and good bars and cafes outside. ie before children and responsibility. Feel free to give me a cyber slap!!!

appyday · 02/09/2006 16:23

homemama I feel the same about CS and missisng the labour experience(again), Suppose for me this time at least DH and I will both be at the birth where I feel that neither of us were at the last one cos I ended up with a general. DH did say there are some advantages of having another CS - from a male point of view. And I did hit him.

liquidclocks · 02/09/2006 16:52

Appyday - good, he deserved it!

Homemama - the warrington one is my 'local' - grew up 10 mins from there. We only went to Leeds because they had something in stock we couldn't wait for, never again. If you like being within 10 mins walk from cinema, shops, culture, restaurants and 5 mins walk from REAL countryside move here! It's why we can't tear ourselves away even through realistically at some point we'll have to beccause of what I want to do for work - I'm enjoying it while it's here though!

Off to destroy the kitchen (DH thinks I'm making chinese sweetcorn soup)

Marls001 · 02/09/2006 17:39

Wow Liquid -I'm 5'3" too - baby is 8 pounds, & Dr. thought that was big ... maybe those graphs are wrong ... [fingers crossed icon]

Hi Mytle & Redz - it's my second time; would be lying if I said I wasn't nervous all over again; however, this is so true: You have no idea how amazing your body is until you've given birth, and you are capable of so much more than you'd think. Just recite that like a mantra ... ... and there's never any shame in an epidural, that's for sure.

Interesting note: This LO (didn't happen with DS1) seems to be sensitive to any adrenaline I feel. He'll wake up & start kicking if I feel that cold shock in my brain from someone cutting me off in the car for example, or if I'm suddenly bitter because I've been woken from DS having a nightmare on the monitor ... not moving a muscle - even my little finger - if I feel disappointment at being woken up, LO will wake up, too. If I curtail those emotions and calm myself, LO will stay asleep. DS1 is unflappable, mostly happy ... perhaps this is a more sensitive child coming? Who knows.

tassis · 02/09/2006 17:53

having contractions. quite sore but manageable (not even put TENS machine on yet). have been having them for about 40 mins every 3-5 mins. bet they stop soon...

Need them either to pick up or stop because this is just annoying.

compo · 02/09/2006 18:23

ooh Tassis good luck Fingers crossed they don't stop xxxx

mabel1973 · 02/09/2006 19:47

Tassis - how exciting - good luck fingers crossed X
Bella - good to have you back!
Redz - my advice is to indulge yourself as once LO is born, time for yourself will be at the bottom of a very long list!
Can I join the ranting about men please?
For those of you who remember the recent 'incident' with my BIL, well I as far as I'm aware he has only contacted DH by email and text to aplogise and nothing directly to me. DH forwarded an email to me that he's sent full of apologies and saying he was adressing his drinking problem - which is great. However DH replied saying that he knew he wasn't himself that night and because of that it's easily forgotten. I feel like he's answered on my behalf and quite honestly I can't just forget about it that easily, it left me very shaken, upset and could've been potentially dangerous for the baby. DH just seems to have gone from being all tough and putting us 1st to sudenly it's all forgotten and doesn't matter. I'm afraid it will take more than an email to make me forgive and forget. Sorry to rant, but the whole thing has really got to me.

Hey there ladies,

Tassis- any news???

Well today has been ok but stressful, as we had the twins birthday with lots of children!!! And DD loved it but was the littlest and can't tear around on bikes and scooters like they can so was a little put out!

Then on the way home I had pains for 2.5 hours every six mins, then four, then three mins... only for me to get out of the car this end and them stop! They are currently at around 15 mins apart but as Tassis said manageable in the pain stake and either needing to stop altogether or get on with it and get more painful! Not many times we actually wish to be in pain but I am now!!!

Glad everyone is ok.

tassis · 02/09/2006 20:53
