hi Carly P - thanks for the good wishes - I don't think I was on the thread that early - still felt sick looking at a screen! sorry to hear about your m/c, but you sound as though you dealt with it very well.

Just finished my last day of work until next March!! HURRAH!!! Should feel like celebrating, but actually, I just want to go to sleep. DH is away tonight, and I always sleep better on my own in the bed at the moment (sad, but v. true!).

Homemama, lol at the twice thing - and DH waiting patiently for his turn!!!

Anyone going to try the raspberry leaf tea thing/pineapple/hot curries - or all 3 plus sex?! I swear by swimming as well - last time I was in the pool at 9 pm, and in the labour ward by 4 am the next morning at 38 1/2 weeks. So that's another 3 weeks to go....

Marls001 · 03/08/2006 19:20

I think Vitamin K is for their eyes?

Forgot to mention leg (specifically, calf muscle) cramps!! Had a banana this morning ...

CarlyP - Thanks! Great outlook after m/c. We're done after two (after this one), also.

liquidclocks · 03/08/2006 20:18

I drank rasberry leaf tea last time and it cured my problems associated with taking pregaday and I only had a 7 hr labour - take from that what you will but I'll be having it again!

Informative article on vitamin K here . We'll be letting LO have it.

Angeliz · 03/08/2006 20:31

Hi all.
Regarding the heartburn, i have been taking ranitidine (just one a day) prescribed by my G.P this time and it's a Godsend! I suffered to the point of tears with heartburn in my last 2 pregnancies and this time i was waking up actually tasting blood! Thankfully the G.P was more understanding this time and prescribed me these tablets. Last time they wouldn't give me anything.
She also explained that Gaviscon just coated your stamache after the acid where as ranitidine stopped the acid forming. I still need the gaviscon at night but beleive me, i've cryed over the agony of heartburn . GET RANITIDINE!

Have to say though, i had 2 exeptionally hairy babies!
Both had a full head of black hair and fine hair on their shoulders and backs. If this one's baldy i'll be shocked!

I am doing o.k. 4 weeks to go! I am still hoping for a Homebirth but feel as though they're trying to prepare me to go in as the Midwife keeps saing how shortstaffed and busy they are and there was only me and one other lady going for a Homebirth and she just had her baby ,,,, in Hospital!
DP wants me to ask my Midwife if she'll do it private as i know she's on holiday when i'm due but not going away ,(she told me that). I just don't know how to broach the subject and don't want to come across as the big i am!
I find it ironic that in our local paper a few months ago they did a massiev story on how good Homebirth was and how they are going to try to encourage more women, yet when 1 woman in the whole town wants one...........

Anyhoo, i'm o.k apart from that and no sleep. Think dd2 is getting another tooth! My pelvis keeps clicking in the night too when i try to turn and give her her dummy! Ouch!

Angeliz · 03/08/2006 20:33

I have my rasberry leaf tablets and think i'll start tomorrow.
Don't know if they work but i've had 2 very speedy deliveries.
First one was (from getting to hospital) three and a half hours and the second was four hours.

compo · 03/08/2006 20:57

Thanks Angeliz - I think I will try and get an appointment with gp tomorrow and see if I can get a prescription for Raninidine. It was so bad this afternoon I actually threw up because of it - whch as you probably know makes it worse. I tried raspberry leaf tea last time but not sure if I can stomach it this time. Can you get the tablets from Holland and Barretts?

compo · 03/08/2006 20:58

ps thanks LC - that article on vit K was really helpful. I think ds must have had the injection as he didn't have follow up tablets. Dh swears blind he didn't have any injections but I think he must have!!

Angeliz · 03/08/2006 20:59

Yes Holland and Barrats.
Can't remember how many i need to take though!
May start a thread to ask.

Marls001 · 03/08/2006 23:04

Thanks for informative article on Vitamin K - had no idea (don't know where I got "for eyes"), but know it's routine in the US.

Went to a moms' club gathering today and DS was SO clingy! Just horribly annoying and fussy. It's all relative, of course, and he's only had a few such outbursts, but that's a few more than he's ever had. He's a changed boy the last few weeks, and everyone says he may be able to sense DS2 coming ...? I was so exasperated in the car; asked him if he wanted to talk about the baby ... and he replied "I think ... that baby is going to ruin my life!" Now where did he get that from? - he's just turned 3! We'll have to do our best to cushion arrival all the more ...

Woodelf · 04/08/2006 08:27

Hi everyone,

just a quickie to say Boots have Spatone iron water on their 3 for 2 offer - saved me 7 quid!

liquidclocks · 04/08/2006 09:03

No probs with the vit K thing - curse of being a health professional is wanting to know the facts and research about EVERYTHING!

I found the rasberry leaf tea thing easier when I added 2 sugars if that helps anyone, made it taste a bit like one of those pink/blue aniseed things you get in liquorice allsorts.

Angeliz - I would consider bringing up the subject of going private with your midwife if you really want a home birth. She may not be able to herself as I know I can't practice privately because my professional insurance only covers work I do in the NHS, but she might be able to give you a recommendation. People in the NHS don't tend to actively suggest you go private because it's frowned upon given that the philosophy is that whatever is on offer should be available to all - but if you can afford it... up to you. Have you considered trying to hire a doula?

mabel1973 · 04/08/2006 11:19

when do you need to start taking raspberry leaf tea - I am 35 weeks now - i suppose I ought to start? I had tablets last time much easier than the tea I think.
ooo Woodelf - if only I'd read this before going out this monring - I've just been to Boots as well!
Claire - I found the TENS useful at the beginning, but to be honest by the time I got to hospital I needed DRUGS! I have been told that you have to put it on in the really early stages and then DO NOT take it off or your levels of endorphins will drop and have to be built back up again which takes time. I am hoping to use the pool this time, so once I get to hospital it will be coming off anyway.

Bella23 · 04/08/2006 11:35

Morning ladies

Well had final scan today and placenta is high so need to worry any further about a C section. Baby checked again and all is well and he / she is 5 and 1/2 lbs already. The scanner lady was lovely and was showing the bub's face etc - amazing! We are just so relieved now that all is well and we can relax. This baby has been very well scanned, been worth the slight worry of the low lying placenta just to keep getting baby measured etc. They reckon at full term this little one should be 8lbs so a nice weight.

Interesting article on the Vit K injection.

Marls - arh bless, very dramatic from your little one. He's probably just repeating what he has heard somewhere.

Will be looking into the raspberry tea thing as don't know much about it.

Well its Friday - Ye ha !! Hope you all have nice weekends lined up

homemama · 04/08/2006 14:34

Mabel, I think you are supposed to wait until 36wks before taking the raspberry leaf tea. I took it last time and it was yucky but something worked so I'm going to take it again. I always hold the button on the kettle so the water is actually boiling rather than just reaching the boil as i found the only way it was bareable was when very hot.

Talking of the tea, have any of you girls picked up some wheat germ oil for perineal massage yet? I got some on Monday but when I came out the bath and tried to massage, I felt different to last time. Sorry TMI, I know I didn't feel like I had a taut piece of skin there anymore. Maybe that's a good thing. For you girls that are first timers, I used it religiously for 4wks last time and didn't tear. Can't say the wheat germ oil was what did the trick but like the tea, I'm not leaving anything out.

Bella, congratulations on your scan. So pleased for you that you now have a choice of birth.

Hope everyone else is well. Carly, glad you've come to terms with what happened and thanks for the good wishes. Norms, if you're reading this, hope you are well. Is there anyone else we haven't heard from in a while?

Compo, take it easy & don't listen to the family! It has to be when he is showing signs & you want to go along with it not when it suits parents / in-laws / family etc. If you've already decided to wait until Xmas etc then just tell them to put up & shut up!! The signs we saw in DD when we started 3 weeks ago were:

Telling us she'd pooed / done a wee / taking an interest in us going to the toilet / sitting on the potty / trying to take nappy off or not wanting it on altogether. We have been extremely lucky in that the weather has been great so it's been easier to let her wonder around with no clothes & just go to nursery in knickers & a t-shirt (so less clothes to fumble around with etc etc). Also I think it's important that both you & DH are together on this...I wanted to start a couple of weeks before we did but DH was ademant she wasn't ready so I had to back track even though I thought she was!!!!

Only have an hour left a work.....

Yes, the paternity pay rules leave a little to be desired don't they? DH was supposed to put in his formal request by June 17th - he's STILL not done it - bl**dy useless!

Nice to see you back Norms - sorry about the sickness though, a few of us do seem to have had it this time.

Is anyone else getting tightenings and/or little bright drifty spots in front of their eyes whenever they get up/do anything? I don't feel dizzy or have headaches or swollen hands/feet so not worried about pre-eclampsia but it is getting annoying.

Coriander73 · 04/08/2006 16:56

Hi Trace...thanks for that! Can you believe it's gone so quickly?!! I think I'm due just before Compo..can't remember but you keep your eyes peeled!! Hope you're feeling brighter xx

Thanks Cori for that info re potty training - i don't think he's showing any signs yet - phew
Trace2 - thanks for asking how we are I regularly check your threads to see how you are, sorry you've had such a tough time of it. Cori - my due date is 12.9, can't remember when yours is. Maybe we should add the stats to this new thread?
Norms - glad you're okay, sorry to hear about the sickness, take it easy at work. My dh gets 2 weeks fully paid paternity leave. He's saved up his leave too and is going to take it later on in Nov/Dec hopefully when people have stopped visiting/helping
