How fast do we get through these threads?

I had my 16wk appointment yesterday, wasn't sure if the MW would try the Doppler or not but she had a student with her who had a go and found it within a minute or two, approx 140bpm. A guy DH is working with said girl straight away when he told him but I still have no idea!

On the flip side though, I have the most horrendous cold so am currently on the sofa watching the Olympics feeling pretty sorry for myself

Ruggle · 18/02/2014 13:25

Flymo, I found the diagram on this webpage quite useful as I was worried I had no signs of a bump:

flymo79 · 18/02/2014 13:28

jessplus, it's really hard but I agree with secretly, give yourself some fun stuff to do to take your mind off it, and DEFINITELY don't google!! Can you make something to take your mind off it? bake? We are all feeling like we want assurance but the only thing that will give you that is your scan tomorrow, so do something really engrossing and try to live for the moment.

flymo79 · 18/02/2014 13:29

thanks ruggle! fascinating....
and ItsSo, sorry to hear you are sicky. Hot lemon and honey for you. I find the bpm guessing-game hilarious, already I have two sets of people saying "definitely girl" or "definitely boy"!!

flymo79 · 18/02/2014 13:36

ha ha! I like the picture on this site too! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundal_height

jessplussomeonenew · 18/02/2014 13:54

Thanks Secretly - you are so right and I have stepped away from Google now. Am working from home but feeling very nauseous and not terribly productive, not helped by struggling to think about anything but the scan! Might ask if I can finish early and go out for a walk - I find a bit of fresh air and exercise are normally good for stopping fretting.

jessplussomeonenew · 18/02/2014 13:57

Flymo, just saw your message too - thanks for your wise words. Distraction is a good idea though baking is not that appealing just now!

mssleepyhead · 18/02/2014 14:20

i love that picture, flymo!

jess, i'm still feeling very sick too. thought we'd be passed this by now! i know how you're feeling nerves-wise, i felt the same yesterday... it feels like the longest time in the world, but i think you can just go in thinking no news is good news and try and hope for the best. as my dh kept telling me, if you feel like throwing up, i'm taking that as a good sign : )

best wishes for tomorrow! (oh, and don't drink too much before. my scan was half an hour late and by the time i finally got into the room the sonographer had to send me to the loo because my bladder was squashing the baby!! also made the wait, and my sickness, a lot worse! not what you need in a hospital waiting room...)

jessplussomeonenew · 18/02/2014 14:42

MsSleepy, a definite yes to thinking we should be over the sickness by now! I had 5 days of magically feeling better in week 11 and thought the sickness was all over, but oh no, it came right back! Embarrassingly I was in the middle of a back to work conversation with my boss when I had to dash off to throw up for the first time in days! Could have been worse if I hadn't spotted the signs just in time!

Mind you, I'd probably be panicking even worse right now if I didn't have the nausea to reassure me... Every cloud!

flymo79 · 18/02/2014 17:11

ugh, sorry for mentioning baking Jess!

ScienceGeekGirl · 18/02/2014 19:33

Bit of a self centred message but so annoyed! My (male) workmate started a conversation with me saying it was unfair that I got paid maternity leave and that that I deserved no sympathy for feeling tired and ill as 'I'd brought it on myself'. Anyone else had people voicing their unwanted opinion?

Also to equal out my anger downs letter arrived today came out as 1 in 100000. Lovely and low

travispickles · 18/02/2014 20:02

Wow that is low! And I would not have been able to contain my response to that colleague- how dare he? Angry . in fact I would be tempted to make it known to the line manager- pretty sure the law protects women from such wr

travispickles · 18/02/2014 20:02

Wrongheaded sexist rubbish....

travispickles · 18/02/2014 20:04

Anyway, speaking of tired etc. you aren't alone!! 16 weeks and no sign of tri 2 energy yet. In fact I have a permanent headache which I'm slightly concerned about. Anyone else with headaches?

ScienceGeekGirl · 18/02/2014 20:10

Thanks Travis, glad not just me that thinks that's out of order. Was shocked so gave no good retaught. What's it matter to him anyway if I get maternity leave? Not like what I do has any impact on him. Might have a word with our joint supervisor but hate that sort of thing so likely chicken out of mentioning it to boss.

2beornot · 18/02/2014 23:00

Travis - I had a three day long headache. Even dd's kisses didn't fix it (bless her). I don't seem to be as exhausted these days tho, so that's a blessing!!

babyspice2501 · 19/02/2014 07:24

Thanks secretly! Im feeling much better now! I actually feel like I can enjoy my pregnancy now :)

Nulanoo · 19/02/2014 07:43

Really sorry am I being totally ignorant but can't see how to pm anyone to join the fb group!

Owlysims · 19/02/2014 08:09

Nulanoo pm me if you like and I'll have a go :) pm me your full name and what your pic looks like. Xx

Ruggle · 19/02/2014 08:37

Science, I work in a room with 5 other people...though for many months there were just three of us. Since two men and another lady joined the office the temperature seems to have increased so much that we've turned all the heating off. So, the other day I happened to comment that we'd need to get some fans in there for the summer months and all of a sudden my (childless) French (female) (50-something) (rude) colleague snapped "Well, you brought it on yourself! Nobody asked you to get pregnant!"......and when we all turned and looked at her in disgust she said "Oh...or did you mean because there are so many of us in here?".......erm yes..

flymo79 · 19/02/2014 08:58

science, ruggle, that is awful behaviour. I can't understand people sometimes. I would go straight to the top about it!!

Secretlypregnant · 19/02/2014 10:41

jessplussomeonenew, I imagine you are having your scan right now, but just wanted to say good luck!

I'm really amazed by the rudeness of some of these work colleagues! It's astounding what pregnancy seems to bring out in some people.

I've got a bit of a headache today, Travis, but mainly because my hormones sent me a bit off on one last night and poor DH had to have a discussion about finances with me in bed at about midnight when all he wanted to do was sleep. Blush. I feel like such a mean idiot this morning, but I just couldn't seem to let it go.

jessplussomeonenew · 19/02/2014 10:52

One very wriggly foetus! Feels a bit weird to know there is someone doing somersaults inside me but so lovely to know there's a real live baby on its way! New due date of 29 August, Nuchal 2.1 which I think is normal at 12+5 - just need to wait for blood results now!

Secretlypregnant · 19/02/2014 11:04

Oh Jess, brilliant news! Congratulations! That's what my nuchal was too - totally normal. Smile
