All of us May mummies are BACK like the Terminator only less deadly (unless preggo rage strikes and we're within waddling distance of sharp things)

No experience of pre eclampsia personally but I think a couple of other ladies here had some good knowledge of it. Hope your taking it easy vikks

rebeccax2 · 26/01/2014 15:51

Rest up to the lovelies not doing well vikks and thistle

I'm getting really annoyed by the huge amounts of misinformation and scare mongering over vaccination stuff. Although I lean heavily in the pro-vaccination camp, I do want to be informed and weigh the risks for each. But you can't even ask a question without having opinions hurled from either direction!

Anyway, I didn't get the flu jab (as I've never had the flu) but I'm getting Whooping Cough for sure!

I still haven't bought a single thing for the baby! I need to start asap! xx

rebeccax2 · 26/01/2014 15:52

That was totally off topic... :-)

Vikks · 26/01/2014 16:33

I finally read up on all I missed, I think it took about an hour!

Moomin you sound like you've had an ordeal too, I hope your OH is coping and you are feeling well.

Rebeccax2 Get shopping! It’s not too early now….enjoy. x

Mumof2 Never thought of baby being early until yesterday (DS was evicted at 42 weeks) but now I've been reading up on pre-eclampsia, I just want to be ready. I’m not the only one, DP is upstairs painting the nursery as we speak! He’s so cute, love him.
I was holding off doing/buying some stuff but I’m just going to get ready now……. hospital bag too I think.

Lots of chat about low BP (I remember mine was last PG), does anyone else have high BP like me? They seemed very concerned with the bottom number (130/110) I think it needs to be below 90?? My mum has a BP machine which I think I’ll borrow. I've been told that if I get a headache to ring the labour ward.

It was interesting reading the contraception chat from last week. Thankfully that’s one thing I don’t need to worry about; the only upside to not producing eggs naturally! Both my PG’s have been the result of heavily medicated fertility treatments; they’re both my little miracles. I've always wanted 3 children but we have a lot of factors to weigh up; my age, treatment cost, stress, etc..…..we’ll see.

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 26/01/2014 17:47

My hips and the base of my spine are agony!

Trying to do the warm up stretches from rehearsals and uni lectures (not sure I can manage the cardio side anymore but the stretches, I can still do!) and it helps a bit but they are hurting so much! I have to bend my knees slightly to touch my toes now :(

Hope everyone's ok and those who are poorly are on the mend!

ClearlyMoo · 26/01/2014 19:06

Eeeek Thistle, Bikks, Random get well soon!

As for being ready for baby. Not at all. Luckily u have thoughtful sisters in law and in hand me down stuff alone we have 7 each of newborn vests, newb baby grows, and same 0-3months. There's a crib and I bought a car seat. Starting to feel a bit real! Looking through clothes we thoughts they looked tiny but not when you consider baby us inside me at the mo!!

Bought coca cola and lucozade for occasions when I'm not feeling kicks. They are in the fridge! Must try NOT to drink them when not needed!

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 26/01/2014 19:48

If u have raised blood pressure so not use a electric machine to record blood pressure especially in pregnant woman it can give inaccurate readings

If any of us have concerns we should just speak to the professionals instead of diagnosis with home machines whether it's Doppler or p machines!! I know whts what because I work jn a maternity ward so I can ask my friends but if In doubt ring ur triage assessment unit

loopylou52 · 26/01/2014 20:12

Gosh vikks, sorry to hear you've had a rough time. I don't have any useful knowledge/experience on the subject but rest up and look after yourself!

Hope everyone has healthy, straightforward weeks this week!

NannyPlumForPM · 26/01/2014 21:50

Oh gosh vikks that sounds quite a week you had! I had pre eclampsia with dd1 and got induced at 39 weeks but it was diagnosed fairly early so could be monitored and treated. They might put you on aspirin? There's no other solution really apart from regular monitoring to make sure it doesn't spike and bp tablets. I was on them until 2 weeks post birth last time! Scary stuff! Hope your feeling better now

Am so unprepared for the baby ATM.... Need to get Moses basket from friend and car seat from same friend! Let alone clothes etc Hmm actually where am I going to store everything? Aargh

mrsmummytobe · 26/01/2014 22:03

Oh no vikks, poor you. Make sure you rest up & I hope you have lots of support & are being well looked after Thanks

I hadn't thought of a mattress protector but sounds sensible.

mumof2aimingfor3 · 26/01/2014 22:29

Any ladies that are going to formula feed have you seen
this
Im getting one for my friend and his girlfriend. Looks great!

mumof2aimingfor3 · 26/01/2014 22:33

OH just got weirded out again, as he was sitting talking to me our little man booted me really hard and he saw the lump protrude! He freaked and said he's trying to break out of there!

mrsmummytobe · 26/01/2014 22:39

Haha mumof2, it's so funny watching the bump move! I was doing it just now & could see our little girl wriggling!

I'm hoping to breastfeed but not sure if I'll be able to so not really sure what I should buy bottle-wise? any suggestions? A friend of mine keeps telling me it took her milk 5 days to come in so they had to do an emergency midnight dash to the supermarket for bottles & formula just so they could feed him.

mumof2aimingfor3 · 26/01/2014 22:46

I would get this by aptamil. Best formula in my opinion I used it when I combination fed.

Squiffie · 26/01/2014 22:47

Mrsmummy, babies tummies are so small that they need to be fed little and often so colustrum is enough to sustain them for a good few days. At 3 days baby's tummy capacity is 0.75-1oz and at a week old its still only 1-2oz.

NannyPlumForPM · 26/01/2014 23:08

mumof2 I had my heart set on one of those until I watched a YouTube video on it!! Basically it puts in a shot of boiling water into a bottle you've already sterilised, then you have to take it out and put the right amount of formula in yourself, then it puts in cooler water to bring it to the right temperature...... But if it gets too warm/cold in the machine then it doesn't work, and it needs cleaning quite often and topping up with filtered water!

What we did last time was made up the bottles in 4's sterilised and made up with boiling water then kept them in the fridge until needed, then either warmed them up in the sink or microwave. This was free and seemed as quick if not quicker than using the machine! Personally I'm saving my money Grin

NannyPlumForPM · 26/01/2014 23:12

Oh and I used cow and gate from the start! I had ready made on standby for meals out etc and that's what they gave me in scbu/ neonatal but then I moved onto powder formula and tommee tippee bottles after the first three weeks or so once we were outta there!

MrsFooCough · 26/01/2014 23:23

Oh my days everyone seems to be so organised! Finally got a preggo pillow that doubles/triples as a nursing pillow and a sort of seat/cushion for Bean once he/she can hold his/her head up. SO COMFY no more heavy belly in bed! But I am so utterly sick of orange flavour Rennies. Anyone got recommendations of better flavours/tablets/powders to take? Mum swears by tropical Gaviscon sherbet as she calls it, but that's a bit dear really and I need it every night to stop the dreaded reflux/heartburn. HALP Confused
Also re: things for the baby, we've got a Moses basket on a gliding stand, a bouncer chair, a steriliser and some bottles, breast milk bags for freezing, a dummy, a squishy foam seat thing (early days I know but friends were having a clear out) and we'll be putting a deposit down on a car seat and pram (MaxiCosi Pebble and Bugaboo Cameleon) next month. Other stuff like babygros and newborn starter sets etc will wait until we've had our next midwife appt, see what they say about Bean's size etc. cos we dunno if he/she will be a whopper or not! I didn't fit into newborn sizes at all, apparently, neither did DH, so we may just buy everything in 0-3mths and hope for the best. SO CONFOOZ ABOUT WHAT TO BUY!
I hadn't thought of getting a hospital bag together, tbh, it's still a bit distant-seeming as I'm not feeling definite obvious kicks yet. Plus money is a HUGE issue, we're a bit hand-to-mouth at the moment. I have no maternity clothes except 3 pairs of thin leggings. That's it. So I'm maybe getting a pair of maternity jeans tomorrow. If my mum can swing by H&M after work.
I hate not having an income. I don't even claim JSA or ESA as I don't intend to work until after Bean is a few yrs old, at least. So I literally have NO MONEY. I hate having to ask my mother if she can buy me clothing. I hate having to sit at home all sodding day because I have no money to even get a bus anywhere, let alone DO anything once I get off the bus I can't afford to catch.
Sorry, mini-rant over. I just get really down about this stuff. Speshly seeing as I'm fucking PREGNANT and sorry but I think having clothing I can legitimately leave the house in for appts with medical staff is A BIT OF A PRIORITY.
Sigh. Ok rant ACTUALLY over now.
Sad

mrsmummytobe · 26/01/2014 23:42

Thanks mumof2 & squiffie. Think I'll get that aptamil starter kit then probably won't get too much else until I have tried feeding for myself. Don't think I'll bother getting a breast pump or anything like that yet, or a bottle steriliser as not sure how feeding will work yet & we can buy that once the baby is born, unless anyone tells me it's really important to get them beforehand!

Mrsfoo, I'm the same as you, I hadn't thought of a hospital bag either! Think I'm going to have to get that sorted. Sorry to hear you're having a hard time atm. It is ridiculous how much everything costs for a baby isn't it, plus all the maternity clothes & bras which we'll only need for a few more months.

BlanketSky · 27/01/2014 00:01

marking place on new thread

MrsFoo, Wilkinson do own brand Rennie equivalents and they come in packs with a variety of fruit flavours- there's blue, pink, lemon and the dreaded orange which are my least favourite. Cheap too!

*unidentifiable/generic fruit flavour but more like sweets than the orange ones

We are beginning to think about baby things, have swapped a fair amount of stuff with colleague at work as they've recently had a boy following a girl and we're having a girl following a boy so works quite well! Picked up a bundle of stuff from a facebook selling site too, most of which is nice. We have most equipment type things from last time and have bought a new mattress for the cot; also want to get a new one for the carry cot as I used it as downstairs sleeping place with DS. Hoping this one might bf. We ff last time as he refused to latch and I was too knackered/in too much pain after horrible birth to keep trying. I have been assured by many people an elcs will be a much nicer start- not that it could be much worse... Hmm

In other news my PGP is awful and I'm planning to ask for crutches next time I see the physio in the hope it'll mean I can walk for more than 10 mins Sad

Squiffie · 27/01/2014 00:36

I just feel so sick I want to cry Sad was sick last night before bed and been sick 3 times today. I'm just laid in bed now feeling sick and my tummy hurts :( I just want to not feel so crappy.

Xavielli · 27/01/2014 03:11

Oh Squiffie, gws Thanks hope the rest who are ailing feel better too.

I won't even be thinking about hospital bag until about 32 weeks otherwise I tend to put a whole load of crap in that I won't really need.

MrsFoo - I can truly empathise with you on the money front. DP changed jobs in October, didn't like it so changed back so his wages are all over the place at the moment. Add Xmas for 4 kids (only 3 gifts each but adds up) and we're pretty bloody skint! I've had to start putting coppers and any change left in my pockets at the end of the day into sealed tins, otherwise we won't afford our buggy come April.
A word on maternity jeans, try them on before you buy - H&M come up super small IME.

Dd2s little birthday get together went wonderfully :) some of my lovely friends even tidied the kitchen and washed up for me whilst u was socialising. They're keepers!

mumof2aimingfor3 · 27/01/2014 07:04

mrsfoo go to your doctor and get heartburn liquid and tablets on prescription, your pregnant, its free. Admittedly im not a great one to talk as I keep buying gaviscon asy docs are such a pain in the arse to get an appt with.

squiffiehope you feel better soon. Take it easy blanket

Oh nanny you've burst my bubble, I thought that was going to be a fantastic present for my friend and his mrs. Sad im going to have a look at youtube. I only said id get t as he moans that shes so lazy and I know he'll be the poor mug doing all the feeding etc.

loopylou52 · 27/01/2014 07:10

get well soon squiffie Thanks

Re indegestion remedies, I've got the little sachets of Gaviscon liquid (normal mint flavour - I didn't even realise there were alternative flavours). I hate the consistency of the tablets so, although the liquid doesn't really taste any better, it's over quicker iykwim. If you're needing them every day it does sound like it would be worth asking for a prescription though. Anything that helps with the ridiculous hidden costs of pregnancy!

mumof2aimingfor3 · 27/01/2014 07:18

I just watched this and think I'll still get it anyway as they know im getting it for them. You dont have to add filtered water it filters the water for you, but you have to replace filter every three months (£9).
