All of us May mummies are BACK like the Terminator only less deadly (unless preggo rage strikes and we're within waddling distance of sharp things)

I'm also having my anti d on friday! I've had it before twice and it moody hurts!!!! Whooping cough next Wednesday

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 11/02/2014 14:42

I haven't been told anything about whooping cough. Spoken to some of the women in the April group about it and decided I probably won't go out of my way to book it.

Xavielli · 11/02/2014 14:42

They booked my GTT at 16 weeks. C

Bornin1984 · 11/02/2014 14:43

My impression was everybody should have whooping cough, it was discussed at booking appt and also suggested I took I think vitamin d supplement, I haven't took that tho!

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 11/02/2014 14:46

hasn't been mentioned to me at all.. also haven't seen any info on it in antenatal clinic or anything. Hmm.

I think the reason I decided not to is because they're ending the routine vaccine programme in I think October this year. If it was a permanent thing and there was more about it, like the flu jab, I wouldn't hesitate. I'll have it if offered but if not I'm just not that fussed.

Then again I also didn't take vitamin D and forgot folic acid regularly so Confused

MrsFooCough · 11/02/2014 15:11

moom I think I am def a GTT candidate as I had a BMI of 40+ when I fell pregnant, also dad has type 2 diabetes. So I think they said I needed one...
Also re the whooping cough thing, I'm kind of with you on that too moom - heard rotten things about people having traumatic v v early deliveries almost immediately after the whooping cough jab, and yes it's not a very well studied pregnancy jab. Bean will have the vaccines at 2mths anyway, so I suppose I only have to keep him/her away from other little ones for a couple of months. Unless of course I'm told there's an outbreak in the local area, in which case I would have it anyway. Begrudgingly.

I'm going to chase my midwife about whooping cough next time I see her in two weeks.
I know they might be stopping the jab later this year, but DS was in hospital when he was a baby and there was a little baby beside him with whooping cough and it was the most awful thing. He died the day ds got discharged from hospital. I constantly worried if ds would get it, so any extra protection to stop ds2 getting it is well worth it.

Isean · 11/02/2014 15:19

I had my whooping cough vaccination on Friday. My midwife was very keen for me to get it, cases of whooping cough have been on the rise recently and I couldn't risk not having it.
Whooping cough is nasty, I had it as a teenager and it was an awful experience and I personally could not bear to watch a newborn go through that knowing I could have done something which could prevent it.

That's just my own personal feelings though.

MrsFooCough · 11/02/2014 15:33

I s'pose I'm just terrified that Bean might suffer in utero after I have the jab, it would be awful to lose him/her - but you're right, whooping cough is a killer, it nearly killed my grandma when she was a baby, so I s'pose it probably should be given. Just a bit bothered that its effects on foetuses haven't been studied...

Ohhh btw I have a degree in biomedical sciences so I'm not some mental anti-vaccination nutjob, just terrified for my first pregnancy! Confused

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 11/02/2014 15:40

And I know nothing about vaccines so I'm not anti-them either, just haven't been offered and not sure if it is offered in my area Grin

xalyssx · 11/02/2014 15:43

Been discharged from hospital, in accommodation in London, Gabriel is doing well.

Isean · 11/02/2014 15:55

Glad you've been discharged Alyss and that Gabriel is doing ok! You are so brave!

McBaby · 11/02/2014 16:09

I had my whooping cough last week. When DD was young 18 months ago we were advised not to take her out where there would be children until she had her first vaccinations as it was so widespread.

ClearlyMoo · 11/02/2014 16:13

Great news Alyss!

I have been told I'm border line anaemic! Eeek. Trying to up my iron intake naturally. I'm scared of the constipating tablets!

All clear on glucose front (MW tested an impressively small urine sample), no GTT for me.

Whooping cough next Fri when I'll be 28+5.

loopylou52 · 11/02/2014 16:35

I had my 28 week mw app today too. All good, except she couldn't get my blood so I have to go to blood clinic at docs to have that done. I've got my whooping cough vaccine next week - important to me as my friend's baby had it as a new born (despite not having gone out much, not having been told of an outbreak in the area etc so no idea how she caught it) and it sounds horrendous. Obviously it's personal choice though.

I'd be furious if my dh did his washing and not mine, but then we always put everything in together so I guess it depends on your usual approach!

Great to hear from you alyss. Excellent that you've been discharged, though it must be difficult with Gabriel still in there. Are you staying somewhere close to the hospital?

moobaloo · 11/02/2014 16:56

Excellent Alyss! How are you feeling?

Clearly, I am always borderline anaemic and have been craving red meat this whole pregnancy! So I don't try to eat anything other than what I want, which has been steak, burgers etc and green leafy veg. Lots of lovely iron!

I nearly cried when we were in a burger restaurant and dp suggested I try the chicken burger. It did sound good, but I wanted BEEF! So that's what I had. Strange fellow my dp, why would he suggest I have chicken? Just because I had almost exactly the same dinner the night before doesn't mean I don't want it again! Grin

I do all the washing in our house, dp is scared of the machine and used it once and got it wrong, so avoids it! I don't mind as if he did it it would all go missing I'm sure! But I wish he'd put it away sometimes, I hate doing that!

Xavielli · 11/02/2014 17:13

Haven't been offered whooping cough vaccine but would absolutely take it.

bushprincess · 11/02/2014 17:17

So happy for you Alyss, looking forward to hearing more good news about Gabriel soon!

clearly definately try the natural approach! I was given iron tablets and they completely mucked up my bowels! I've been a bit 'naughty' and cut down on my iron dose and upped my beef and spinich intake! Have been feeling great so really hope my bloods come back a bit better next week! I was having to take laxatives to get ANY movement and that can't be good... anyhow, lets see if things look better, if not then back to the tablets Sad

dobedobedo · 11/02/2014 17:20

I just had a call from a health visitor! She's coming out to see me next week. I never saw a health visitor until after ds was born last time so this is all new to me.

What is she coming out to do? Just make sure I'm not bringing a baby into a crack den? Wink

Bornin1984 · 11/02/2014 17:43

I didn't know u saw health visitors ante natally?

LongTailedTit · 11/02/2014 18:07

I had the whooping cough one yesterday morning, it felt like someone's punched my arm, but is much better this afternoon.
Just had my Anti-D this afternoon too - saw my midwife for my 28wk appt, and she said they'd taken the blood for my Anti-D when I had my GTT this morning - I had no idea! It really didn't hurt, and I can't feel a sore patch like the whooping cough in the other arm, so fingers crossed it stays that way. She used a teeny tiny needle for the Anti-D, didn't even need a plaster after.

The midwife also explained to me again why she doesn't think I should have a home birth - I had Group B Strep when I had DS1, and will need to be on IV antibiotics, so if I make it past 37 weeks I can go to the Birth Centre which I'd be fine with.
For some reason I had totally forgotten about the bloody Strep B, and was getting all enthusiastic about the idea of home birth again.
Never mind! I'd far rather have a hospital birth with antibiotics than a home birth and then both get admitted anyway for gawd knows how long!

Lovely to hear from alyss, glad you're out of hospital and can finally see Gabriel. Thanks

kally195 · 11/02/2014 18:10

Ooh - I've not been told anything about whooping cough jabs either. My next midwife appointment is on the 19th, so I will ask then. I will be 27+4, so will get my first bump measurement and I think bloods done.

She has already said I don't need the GTT unless sugar comes up in my urine/growth looks wonky - no sign of sugar so far so fingers crossed. Bit worried about my bump size - lady at work today pulled a face when I said I was 26+3 and said "I think it's going to be a massive bump". I don't think I am that massive - I have put on 8lbs in total, which seems to be all bump cos loads of people say I look like I have lost weight. Didn't help that the lady who said it weighs about 28 stone.

Think I am going to bite the bullet and sign up for the NCT signature course. Can't make the one (!) NHS class that has space between now and my due date. Also like the idea of meeting other pregnant ladies from the area. My only concern is that the NCT class is two weeks before my due date - wonder if anyone else will be that far along??

dobe - I've seen stuff elsewhere about people having pre-natal health visitor visits. It seems to be random as to which areas do them and which don't.

alyss - fab news that you are out and Gabriel is doing well xx

AliOh · 11/02/2014 18:17

Great news Alyss glad your both doing well :) maybe a bit early to be thinking about it yet but when is everyone planning on packing their hospital bags? One of my friends very recently went into labour at 36 weeks and now I'm panicking that I need to have everything ready!!

kally195 · 11/02/2014 18:43

AliOh I've got as far as having a think and a read about what I want with us. I think I will probably get it ready about a month before my due date. Have you decided what you are going to pack yet?
