All of us May mummies are BACK like the Terminator only less deadly (unless preggo rage strikes and we're within waddling distance of sharp things)

thistle and moom I feel your pain. I don't have a job, DH earns 45k, mum earns maybe 8/9k and dad's pension is 5k. Rent is 1200pcm and DH's train to work is ~600pcm, give or take. Car payments, bills and council tax for a 5bed house and just paying for food FFS is bankrupting us each month. Having to sell both our laptops, and we've genuinely not bought ANYTHING for the baby yet. Lucky that neighbours are getting rid of some stuff.
I'm freaking out here.

That sounded really boastful, me listing our incomes etc. I'm sorry it's not like that, I wasn't trying to boast Sad I'm just so miserable about money because there's NOTHING I can do. I'm not eligible for any benefits I don't think, what with DH's income being over a certain amount. So I can't help at all Sad

I'm glad I'm not the only one stressing about money. That's why I'm continuing to work even though I can barely walk with the spd by lunchtime every day - I just can't afford to give up 2 months salary and almost a month of holiday pay before the baby comes!
DH and I earn the same so we're taking almost a 50% cut in incomings. We don't have a lot of disposable income anyway so instead of saving, we're frantically paying things off and getting things we need before the baby arrives.
It's gonna be a nightmare!

bushprincess · 07/02/2014 14:38

samba I completely sympathise with you! GOod luck finding somewhere and if you have no other option then I hope you can get a sympathetic midwife at the local hospital... but its frustrating when the rest of the world is moving on and you're somewhere where birth is on your back with your legs in stirrups still!!

moomin, mrsfoo, thistle and dobe so sorry to hear your money worries... I'm sure you'll manage to get through but I know how hard it is to feel that stress hanging over your head. Sure you probably are already, but I've found it much easier to keep on budget when I write down EVERYTHING I spend, be that $2 on a coffee or whatever... am also hoping that after the initial splurge on buggy and car seat we will now be accepting any and all hand-me-downs! Have already been given a bunch of re-usable nappies so that will save a small fortune!

I found this article really inspiring www.telegraph.co.uk/women/10211090/Successful-parenting-without-spending-money-a-mothers-story.html

and hoping we can put it into practice as much as possible!

we can all help each other with tips of how to 'make-do and mend'!

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 07/02/2014 14:40

Good news when I needed it most - the assessment I stressed over for weeks as I was writing the script and getting grief off people for not doing it 'well enough', turns out I got a 1st in it Grin and the comments from my lecturer are brilliant. So chuffed Grin

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 07/02/2014 15:17

Well done moomin!!

MrsFooCough · 07/02/2014 15:24

well done moomin!

loopylou52 · 07/02/2014 16:03

Ha, love that you're having a nap to celebrate moomin's success mrsfoo. I think we all should! Grin Well done moomin - you deserve some good news!

bush - glad you seem to have managed to find a good solution for your delivery issue. Hope you manage to find something suitable too samba.

Finances are pretty scary aren't they? We're generally pretty lucky so I can't complain but we earn about the same so it is going to be a huge drop in income. My work have pretty good maternity pay so I'm actually more worried about the following year, hopefully going back to work part time and then having to pay for childcare.

ClearlyMoo · 07/02/2014 16:30

Hello!! Much better, thankfully! Must just have been something I ate! Lying on a giant bed in hotel number two eating the chocolate buttons from mini bar (don't ask how much), DH only let me eat them cos we didn't get the room upgrade we requested...

I'm being an ostrich (head in sand) about money. Mat pay is limited... Frustrated about how many guys at work think I get paid in full for a whole year "off", nowhere near it! Then afterwards probable part time and nursery etc. I'm not thinking about it and eating expensive mini bar chocolate instead. I'm such a child!!

Well done on your assignment Moomin, hope you find a goodOBGYN Bush xxx

NannyPlumForPM · 07/02/2014 16:45

Well done moomin! I can decorate you a celebratory fairy cake? :p dd loves decorating- I don't think she realises that someone bakes the cakes as I always buy mine ready done from tesco [slummy mummy emoticon]

If anyone gets the chance to read jools Oliver's -9 to 1 book it's quite funny- just finished it so I'm passing it onto a pregnant pal but will be happy to send on if
Anyone's interested Grin

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 07/02/2014 16:48

I've just made a rocky road slab for dh as I've been pretty mean to him recently! To the ex tent I think I made him cry yesterday :-(

bluestone85 · 07/02/2014 16:49

Sorry I haven't been around. Haven't manged to catch up since before the holiday. Don't know what's happening with you all, so I'm sorry. I hope everyone is ok and all well with the little ones!
My mum had her op and all was going well with recovery. However on Sunday her blood pressure went extremely low and she had trouble breathing. They had to sedate her and put her on a ventilator. She's in intensive care and turns out she had septic shock. They are trying slowly to bring her round but it's not clear at the moment how things are going to go. She's still critical.
Sorry I probably shouldn't be saying all this on here, but I just feel so numb and exhausted and don't know what to do with myself. xxx

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 07/02/2014 17:02

Thanks Blue!! We may be strangers but were here for u! Fingers crossed for you and yor mum xxx

ClearlyMoo · 07/02/2014 17:03

NannyPlumForPM · 07/02/2014 17:33

Oh blue, how awful :( Flowers I am sending you my best wishes

NannyPlumForPM · 07/02/2014 17:34

I wonder if the pfj ever made it onto another bus??!

Xavielli · 07/02/2014 17:37

Well done moomin!

Sorry to hear that Blue - fingers x your mum makes good progress.

GTT was fine really. Had routine 28 week bloods and more liver function tests - it was 9 vials all in! Thankfully I didn't feel any adverse effects at all which I'm certain is because I was given actual lucozade rather than the hospital glucose drink. DP took me for steak afterwards Grin

dobedobedo · 07/02/2014 17:41

blue I'm so sorry to hear about your mum, you must be so worried. Thinking of you and I hope she comes round soon xxx

Has anyone noticed a change in baby's movements? I'm 27 weeks now and for the last couple of days, they've felt different. Like he's running out of room in there and doesn't have the space to pull back for a giant kick anymore!

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 07/02/2014 17:46

Thanks everyone Grin

Sorry to hear that Blue, thinking of you x

Yep dobe, a couple of weeks ago it changed from kicks to baby actually shifting around, although its now expanded into my ribs so I get the joy of rib kicks late at night.

I really really hope PFJ has had some good news recently.

loopylou52 · 07/02/2014 17:49

Thinking of you and your family blue, fingers crossed for some good progress very soon Thanks

MrsFooCough · 07/02/2014 17:54
