All of us May mummies are BACK like the Terminator only less deadly (unless preggo rage strikes and we're within waddling distance of sharp things)

Very jealous of the baby moons! If only we could afford it! We are planning a post baby holiday, DPs mum is 40 Shock in September and has asked us to go away somewhere for it! we will be taking baby though not sure it will be much of a holiday travelling with a 5 month old Hmm

bushprincess · 05/02/2014 18:33

enjoy the babymoon clearly!!

Vikks and Irish so sorry to hear work are being rubbish to you - you really shouldn't be getting bothered when you're signed off - hope you can get it sorted..

moomin do the course - much cheaper in the long run, insurance with points can get pricey!

Thistle v.exciting re furniture!

and hi to everyone I haven't mentioned!!!!

SO I've had a rubbish, over-emotional day....

I've lived in various 'developing nations' for almost 8 years now so I really should have been prepared BUT...

DH and I went on the tour of the maternity unit where I was planning on having bean.... and bear in mind that this is meant to be the BEST Zim has to offer - and isn't cheap!

The place was AWFUL not well cleaned, everything completely shabby - chipped paint on all the cots and beds ect, bedside tables stained... delivery room was the pits - straight out of the 60's, completely clinical and horrid.... rooms are twins with the beds so close together you'll be breast-feeding in the lap of your room mate and nurses so flippant and non-informative.

Oh, and and currently they dont' have any gas and air available - though they promise me that they have it 90% of the time... so their open day was just one of the unlucky days then???

I know this all sounds really 'precious' but seriously - it is awful... I just can't imagine giving birth in there, let alone staying in for 5-7 days which is what they want if you have a c-section (!!!)

Managed to cry all the way home, DH in a tizz and wanting to 'send' me back to the UK or down to South Africa... which is all very well, but with airline flying restrictions and then not being able to fly with bean until passport is through etc means I'd be away from MY home with MY DH for so long.... Sad

If I was really concerned for saftey of bean I'd obviously fly out of here at the drop of a hat... it's not really serious but this is a big occasion and I just can't picture being happy in that hospital!

So sorry for the long rant, but feeling really lost and out of my depth on this one.....

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 05/02/2014 18:41

Bloody hell bush that sounds awful... very dodgy re: having gas and air "90% of the time" Hmm so what happens for the other 10%? Sounds really tough :( hope you manage to find some kind of resolution.

We're not having a babymoon, but we have booked baby's first holiday to Haven Grin going in September.

Bezzabelle · 05/02/2014 19:55

Hi all, haven't read through thread today yet but just thought I'd tell you all that boots have 3 for 2 on baby stuff and amazon have big box of newborn nappies for £7.66.

NannyPlumForPM · 05/02/2014 20:24

Oh ill chip in- just got the tommee tippee steriliser starter set - 8/9 assorted Bottles, steam sterilizer , travel steriliser, food and bottle warmer, various teats eg slow flow med flow etc, insulated bottle bags, milk storage pots and dummy and tongs) for £52!! Amazing value as is normally £90+

It's in the baby event at asda for £65 and then they have an extra 20% off for a bit? Free collection to store as well. :)

moobaloo · 05/02/2014 20:28

Ahh bush princess that sounds awful! Any chance of home birth? Would be more pleasant for you? Do you have independent midwives you can pay to come out to you at home?
Can you buy gas and air on eBay???
Seriously though, hope you get sorted so you're happy as possible with it

Moomin, tell him to do the course. Cheaper than points and I have a friend who runs them and they sound pretty good and informative!

Thistle that's so exciting! My nursery is still full of rubbish that needs sorting before any furniture can go in. And I'm desperate to wash babygros but I know I'll then want to wash them again before he's born if I do it this early!!

25+2

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 05/02/2014 20:45

ALDI's baby toddler event is pretty good, we picked up a thermometer there. But bargain of the day goes to Argos - we popped in, saw a baby carrier in there for £20, thought great deal! Put it in the machine and it was only £13. OH put it on when we got back to try it out Grin

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 05/02/2014 20:45

My cot is currently being built as I type! I'm so excited my bladder will pop hahaha

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 05/02/2014 20:46

Bush, I just been reading on nct that u can fly up I 36 weeks with a doctors note - is that not possible for u?

rebeccax2 · 05/02/2014 21:05

Oh bush how awful!

How many nappies does one go through in a week? Any idea?

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 05/02/2014 21:15

Think that's the last time this pregnancy that I dye my hair... had to get OH to wash it all off and then hold me up as I physically couldn't stand up afterwards Shock

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 05/02/2014 21:22

My cot is up. Oh my!!! I have a half built nursery!Shock

Hezbean · 05/02/2014 21:33

bush that sounds horrible. moo's suggestions are good would any of those help?

rebecca I'm told it's 10-12 a day to start with!! Seems like a LOT! Is this true those of you who've done it before?

Good bargain hunting people! And cot construction - exciting thistle.

Bezzabelle · 05/02/2014 21:33

Rebecca- about 8-12 a day when newborn so 84 in week ish.

Minions · 05/02/2014 22:26

Thanks ladies for earlier reply on active baby, I'll have a chat with midwife. Enjoy the babymoons for those going & hope you're happy with the nursery thistle! I like to just go and stand in ours sometimes imagining what it will be like to have our baby actually there :)

Xavielli · 05/02/2014 22:44

Nappies - about 10 per day is normal when you're changing through the night as well. That's what I budget for anyway, I tend to use less when out and about as they sleep through feed times so miss change time too (iyswim)

Liver scan in the morning tomorrow so just started my 12hr fast. Then I have my GTT on Friday so another fast starting tomorrow night. I'm a bit worried about the amount of blood they'll take on Friday - I have to have the two lots for the GTT (how many vials do they take?) then liver function tests and bile acids (3 vials + 2 vials). I'm probably being silly but that seems a lot on an empty stomach... Thoughts?

impatientlywaiting · 05/02/2014 23:20

Bush your visit sounds awful and not at all precious.

I imagine we'll all feel quite vulnerable when giving birth, and the idea of giving birth somewhere you don't feel comfortable with is awful.

I was going to suggest the idea of a home birth, but saw someone's already mentioned it. Is a home birth with a private midwife something which is available in Zimbabwe?

dobedobedo · 06/02/2014 02:05

xav I got other blood tests done at the same time as the gtt and I'm a fainter! Bring a sandwich for yourself at the end cos you'll want to eat something non sweet, you should be fine. If you're struggling, tell them you need to lie down for a bit after the bloods have been taken.

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 06/02/2014 08:43

I've got midwife today. Last time she said I need to see her every 2 weeks, but if I've been to the antenatal clinic in the meantime and they've taken BP I don't need to go, but it says in my notes there's a space for bloods at 28 weeks. What should I do?

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 06/02/2014 08:43

If he need bloods then go

dobedobedo · 06/02/2014 08:47

What thistle said.

Is anyone else starting to swell more? My rings are tight on my hands most days now - the only time they're not is when I have pyjama days on a Sunday and do bugger all!

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 06/02/2014 08:51

Okie dokie thank you :)

I've been quite lucky I don't think I've had any swelling at all.

hobbjobb · 06/02/2014 09:17

I had to take my engagement ring off weeks ago. I felt really odd without it so I bought a cheapie silver ring to wear on that finger in a larger size, and now that is getting tight!

I get swollen if I've been busy all day so I guess resting us the way to solve it.
