All of us May mummies are BACK like the Terminator only less deadly (unless preggo rage strikes and we're within waddling distance of sharp things)

The past few weeks OH has suddenly grown up (I'm not sure 'grown up' is the right phrase considering I'm younger than him) and now he's just so aware of every twinge and kick - the other day, I told him I was ringing up to find out when the scan would be, and whereas before he'd have said "if it's during my lecture, postpone it until later", he told me he had his phone on, to accept whatever time they gave me and he'd be with me as soon as he could, which was a godsend when the antenatal ward suddenly decided they wanted me back in.

I think it helps that he didn't have any expectations about pregnancy because we didn't expect to be in this situation right now. Happy birthday loopy and enjoy your babymoon clearly

There's a thread on AIBU, I think, about faking reduced movements to be induced and it's worried me. They don't really induce you after three incidences do they? I'm only 28 weeks and I've had two already because mini moomin is a monster and likes scaring us but that doesn't mean it's ready to come out!

loopylou52 · 05/02/2014 09:44

I wouldn't have thought that would be a reason in itself moomin, not if when they check you out it shows all is well and baby is fine, just in a different position or something.
Don't forget also, they can't do anything without your agreement (though I appreciate it's not really that easy to argue if hcps tell you you should do something).

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 05/02/2014 09:49

Thanks for the reassurance loopy, I was worried! Both times I've been, they've checked me over and on Saturday, the second they put the trace bands on me the baby started trying to kick them off! I felt like an idiot.

Vikks · 05/02/2014 10:05

Wow I can’t believe we are starting to hit the third trimester (2 weeks for me still). Shock

My PG book today tells me 100 days left, that feels like a milestone.

Happy Birthday Loopy!!

Ha ha Clearly love your packing! That’ll be me at the end of March (one weeks hol), not sure if I should include hospital bag as well? Hmm

My DP has been really fantastic (his first child, he met my DS when he was 2ys). He’s one of those strange men who think PG is very sexy! I’m not complaining really…. GrinGrinGrin
Our only slight disagreement has been over me returning to work in a weeks time. I've been signed off for three weeks and he wants me to stay at home now. My boss is taking the piss, I keep receiving emails of work to do when I return and some of it is just pure laziness from her! It feels really disrespectful. Great when I’m off for high BP. I’m starting to think about taking early MAT leave. The money isn't a problem. What would you do?
I might not really have a choice; doctor could sign me off again. I've got another appointment tomorrow.

Hope everyone else is well x x

loopylou52 · 05/02/2014 11:04

Hi vikks, I think that in your situation I would be quite tempted to finish early. Them adding to stress when you're off for high blood pressure really isn't on. Maybe see what your doc says when you see them again? If they sign you off sick for longer then maybe that's better so you don't have to start your official mat leave too soon? I knoe there's a point where if you're off sick work can make you start mat leave but I don't think that's for a while yet.

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 05/02/2014 12:17

Feels like one thing after another. OH has been given a speeding ticket. Well technically it's on me at the moment but he was driving. Not sure whether to take points and fine or pay for the course. They caught him coming down a big hill on the way out of a 30 zone and into a 40 doing 36. No excuse I know but annoying as it's outside a village, a steep downwards hill and just before a 40 zone.

Irisheyessmiling · 05/02/2014 12:20

Vikks I'm in same situation, signed off but work demanding things emailed in, need to do lesson plans because the cover teacher doesn't 'do' computers (this is the same woman who'll be my maternity cover are they expecting me to continue planning in the middle of night feeds and childbirth?!) ultimately you are signed off and they shouldn't be contacting you-would they be trying to email you if you had (God forbid) a stroke or an accident rendering you unconscious? I'm considering union involvement, not sure what you do or if you have one but maybe hr dept? Not a fight anyone wants but some employers really take the piss!

Isean · 05/02/2014 13:19

Hello all! Would someone kindly talk to me about GTT?

I got a call from my midwife yesterday to say the bloods she took on Monday have come back showing very high blood sugars and she wanted me to have GTT as soon as possible, so I'm booked in for tomorrow morning. She explained the basics, fasting from midnight at latest, turn up at 9am, have bloods taken, drink some glucose drink, wait at least 2 hours at the hosp with very little moving about and have more bloods taken after. Is that the jist of it?

My mum has only very recently been diagnosed as diabetic, after being told she was "borderline" for years, so I told my midwife that on Monday and she said it was probably fine, so I suspect the GTT is more down to the blood test results. My bump was also measuring small on Monday.

Those who've been for GTT, was it because you have an indicator such as a diabetic family member, a history of GD or big baby, blood sugars showing high or something else? And how long did it take for you to get results?

NannyPlumForPM · 05/02/2014 13:44

I've got mine but I need to reschedule- that was due to sugar being found in my wee twice :p

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 05/02/2014 13:50

Isean mine was because my mum had gestational diabetes when pregnant with my brother.

Yep that's basically it Grin I had to fast from 10pm (you can sip/drink water during this time as it won't have an effect), 9am the next morning went to the clinic, had bloods done, drank the drink (a bit yuck but nowhere near as bad as people say, maybe I had a nice batch or something? Basically like sugary water with a bit of an orangey flavour), waited in the clinic two hours (they didn't let us leave in case it interfered with the results), another blood test, and then free to go :)

I had the test on the Wednesday, was told I'd be called on the Friday if there was an issue, and at my consultant appt on the Monday they confirmed it was clear :)

McBaby · 05/02/2014 13:51

Legally you are not allowed to work when signed off and work shouldn't ask you to! If you are off sick or signed off after 36 weeks even if it's for 1 day work are obliged to start your mat leave then.

GTT is just as you described it is pretty simple you just get very hungry towards the end so take a cereal bar to eat when your done.

Just had my 28 week appointment as very disappointed in my midwife she was lovely and great with my daughter but ignored and brushed off all my questions. It's a bit frustrating when it's the only midwife I will see between 16-36 weeks.

sambababy · 05/02/2014 14:22

Hello ladies! I've been lurking trying to keep up with the conversations. I'm back at work now and am one of those people still living in the dark ages without internet on my phone Shock

I had my GTT yesterday and it was ok. I'm in Brazil so it could be different and I think I was referred as standard practice. The only thing that surprised me was the quantity of sugary drink I had to down! It was fine though, I think all that sugar stopped me feeling faint when spending so long on an empty stomach.

Someone told me yesterday I have a pregnancy nose. Wtf? Looks normal to me!

dobedobedo · 05/02/2014 14:25

I'm so raging. I haven't stopped all day. Haven't had breakfast or lunch because I haven't had a chance. The last thing I had to eat was dinner last night. I'm ready to drop and I've just been left on my own in the office after ordering lunch but they didn't give me a chance to go collect it! I need to fucking eat. I'm pregnant for fuck sake. Angry Angry Angry Angry

Sorry about the rant. I'm raging and dizzy and there's fuck all I can do about it.

dobedobedo · 05/02/2014 15:12

Okay I've calmed down a bit now! Blush I was rescued and have had food. Just as well, I could have accidentally murdered someone!

Moomin, don't take points for your OH. If you are caught, even years down the line, you can get jail time. It's a huge no no.

NannyPlumForPM · 05/02/2014 15:32

Just from having a quick re-read dobe I think moomin didn't know whether oh should pay the £140 odd for the course or take the points rather than her take his points iyswim ?

I'd take the course- points cost way more on insurance IMO :)

MoominIsGoingToBeAMumWaitWHAT · 05/02/2014 16:07

Ooh no no there's no way I'm taking points for him haha, he made his bed he can lie in it Grin plus I'm a provisional driver so I'd be more at risk of losing my licence than he would! Nah we're just undecided whether he'll take the fine and the points, or pay £90 to do the course. He'll probably do the course because having the points could impact his job.

ThistleLickerIsGoingToBeAMummy · 05/02/2014 16:10

I did the corse jus before Xmas ! It's really informative! Plus it saves insurance
Going up on next premium too

ClearlyMoo · 05/02/2014 16:10

Arrived at babymoon hotel... Paranoid as baby not moved for AGES so had a hot choc and now a lie down and as I type little kicks... Hurrah... Think it's pesky anterior placenta... If baby a certain way round then I feel very little!

Vikks in the end I did do hospital bag this am and put in car with us! I'm 26 weeks so a bit ridiculous, but girl in NCT class was hospitalised with contractions at 28weeks and said to all of us "get your bags ready" last night. I'm not sure I've got everything I need, and no baby clothes, but I figure if it's born at 26+5 and survives clothes will be last thing on my mind! Anyway I have no reason to panic but I just didn't want to not be prepared!

MrsFooCough · 05/02/2014 16:20

You guys - DH got properly walloped in the hand about 7 or 8 times by Bean last night, first time he said he could definitely feel it Grin
I may have been shouting I GOT A BABY IN MY BELLY quite a lot today. Smile

OP posts:
dobedobedo · 05/02/2014 17:33

Right that's it. I want a babymoon now! Posh hotel with DH, a huge bath/jacuzzi, nice view and nice food. Haven't done that for AGES!

dobedobedo · 05/02/2014 17:35

Whether we can afford it or not is another issue Hmm

hobbjobb · 05/02/2014 17:36

Hi everyone, all ticking along nicely here at 24+4

mrsfoo my DP felt baby kicking for the first time today, it is so exciting isn't it! My baby has lots of padding to kick through Grin so it's a bit later than most I think but he def felt a proper kick today.

I also dusted off a big hold all to use as my hospital bag today, will start to fill it but by bit. I know it's dead early but I feel better knowing I will be ready, just in case. I bought two big nighties from m&s which are comfy and button down front so plan to use them for giving birth in, that's if I don't end up starkers like every other woman I know has.
Oh, and I've bought a hypno birthing cd.

Shit is getting very real!

We start our NCT Course at the end of February, I'm a bit nervous! Just feel like there's loads of pressure to make FRIENDS (you have to say it inbetweeners style) but what if everyone's weird!?! Or what if they think we're weird?!? (We are weird but hide it quite well most of the time)

I hope everyone has a smooth last trimester on here, lots of positive wishes to everyone who's been having issues xxx

hobbjobb · 05/02/2014 17:38

Ooh and enjoy your baby moons everyone!
I've booked us a couple of nights at a swanky spa hotel the week I start my maternity leave, I cannot wait!

NannyPlumForPM · 05/02/2014 17:55
