PiratesMam · 29/01/2014 22:21

rockchick funny you should say that - my bump has dropped these last couple of days (35wks tmro) and I can suddenly breathe again! On the downside, I literally CONSTANTLY need a wee now. Trying to ration myself to one wee an hour!

comms could the pains be due to pressure now baby is so big? Have you been having BHs?

Has anyone been reading the "waiting to give birth" thread - it's actually made me quite excited! Smile

LyraSilvertongue · 29/01/2014 22:26

Mrsmugoo, manual pumps can be very hard work. I had one at first but it gave me hand cramps and I barely got any milk out. I got an electric which was much better.

Yogibear72 · 29/01/2014 23:12

comms period type pain sounds fairly normal - I've had it since week 32 - but I would speak to the mid-wife about it at your next appoint.

pirates my bump was up and then dropped around 32 weeks. It's now back up again. Baby growing and taking more space. It's causing me to be breathless just by looking down.

Dita agree regards the ante-natal classes. I was worried other half would be bored but actually found it a bonding experience. I think we both learnt more than we thought.

Lib you mentioned that you had been given codeine - just in case you didn't know it is also perscribed as a cure for diarrhoea Blush so should have given you some laxitive with it

Congrats to coolhand! Flowers Who will be next I wonder....?

Lottie345 · 30/01/2014 00:39

Hello you busy lot. Been catching up with everything in a moment of Fricking insomnia.

Updates my end - pushchair has arrived (exciting but after all the research I still wonder if it's the right one...) and been busy at work. Damp plaster now off the walls and awaiting a replastering in a couple of weeks time... Fingers crossed it's sorted for when DC arrives!

My bump has also been up and down. Swear baby can still turn somersaults although god knows how there is the room in there. I seem to expand by the minute at the moment.

Haven't heard anything re not being able to use breast pumps second hand. Several people I know have done - and as you can hire them or be given them by hosp surely it's ok. But keen to know if that's not the case! Don't really want to fork out for one just yet. They seem pretty pricey and I've looked on eBay (beggars/choosers) but it just doesn't sit right with me somehow.

Like you fox I am now desperate to give up work. I'm sure I'll be bored stiff by the time the baby gets here bit I'm jut so knackered an brain dead. And stressed. Boss makes right noises about not working over my hours and so on )unpaid overtime is the norm) but in reality things are super stressful for everyone and they need me there

Family and friends say I should get signed off- I now feel like threatening work with this find me another role for 2.5 wks human rights jumbo but not sure it will help. When I'm stressed at work I get a tightening across my bump - anyone else find that?

Happier/less whingeing news - my friend popped today. Really short labour. Rang her husband at 10am to say get home- hr later they were in hospital and she was 10cm and by 2.15pm the baby was born. They were convinced it was a boy. But her name is Mia. Hoping for similarly quick one!!

Big congrats to coolhand and hope all well with mum and baby

dizhin79 · 30/01/2014 04:33

waves at insomniac lottie I'm awake, have had a mini nose bleed and am now listening to oh snow next to me Hmm

I have exactly the same doubts all the time about my pushchair set up, I was even dreaming about it b4 waking up!
I'm thinking of giving up and going and sitting with my head over a steamy bowl as my nose feels so hard and blocked in site that's what is hindering my breathing.

dizhin79 · 30/01/2014 04:34

oh yeah and my bump feels really high now, there's a real ledge underneath it!

IceNoSlice · 30/01/2014 08:56

Mrsmagoo I used a manual breast pump for DS and it was fine - your hand does get a bit achy but I only pumped a bottle a day (about 4oz) as he was on the boob the rest of the feeds - then I started to mix feed at about 7mo. So I really didn't need to pump a lot.

I have borrowed a Medela swing electric pump this time - mainly because I think it will be quicker and I have a toddler to deal with this time!

I'm sure you can use 2nd hand pumps. Sterilised properly obvs. If in doubt there are parts you can replace. The cynic in me says it is surely in the pump manufacturers interests to encourage you to buy new...

FoxMulder · 30/01/2014 09:17

Hey everyone

How's the pains comms? Still going? Prob best to ask the midwife to put your mind at rest.

I think I will just nip down the road to the neighbouring farm and line up with the cows to get milked. That's got to be quite efficient. Or, actually, DH is from a dairy farm so he's got some experience of hand expressing Grin

Sorry you're finding work stressful Lottie. Mine isn't really, so I can't complain. Although I do, obviously. It's just the fact they actually expect me to get out of be in the morning and sit here all day doing something! The bastards! Smile

Apparently the breast pumps you hire are a different design to the personal use ones. Although I'm sure there's an element of the manufacturer exaggerating the risk of second-hand to encourage sales.

I've just seen some photos of myself from the weekend, and I'm really fat! I totally hadn't noticed! I thought I was just the same but with a bump. I'm really not.

By the way, my new bed is well sexy. I have actual proper furniture. Does this make me a grown-up now?

IceNoSlice · 30/01/2014 09:47

Fox, sorry to break it to you but I think your state of impending parenthood firmly puts you in 'grown up' category.

FoxMulder · 30/01/2014 10:11

We went out to Asda last night because we had no food left for dinner and I was thinking 'shit, I can't believe they're letting people like us who can't even successfully meal plan have an actual child'. I don't feel like a grown-up! I'm sure my parents didn't still watch cartoons and go to theme parks or go out sledging in the winter when they had us. And they were younger than me! Grin

I bet it's going to snow soon and I won't be able to go sledging in my delicate condition. Bummer.

commsgirl · 30/01/2014 11:18

Pains have died down a bit now. I mentioned it to my midwife and she said it sounds like nothing to worry about but just to keep an eye on anything that starts to feel like contractions and try to get more relaxing time in.

I think I'm just doing too much to be honest. I'm always tired/nauseous and my non-stop job that I used to love just feels relentless now which makes me sad. Lottie everyone's telling me to get signed off now too but with only three weeks left and lots of handover to sort out I'd feel terrible leaving everyone in the lurch. I definitely feel like I underestimated how hard it would be to work this long though.

Fox congratulations on the grown-up furniture :). You're not fat, you're growing a baby.

Ice when did you introduce a bottle with DS?

mrsmugoo · 30/01/2014 13:18

Afternoon everyone - how's everyone feeling today. Standard achy ribs and starting to get tired already here.

DH and I are off to our tour of the maternity wards/MLU this weekend - left it rather late didn't we?

Someone mentioned snow to me today - bloody hope it doesn't snow as we live on a really steep hill and walking anywhere will be an absolute nightmare.

IceNoSlice · 30/01/2014 14:18

comms once a day at about 3wo. It was fits and starts to start with, and only 1oz sometimes, but he took to it pretty consitently/well by about 10wo.

Imeg · 30/01/2014 18:22

I'm having a bit of trouble walking now: have started getting sudden ache/pain in the inner thigh/groin area, a bit like a pulled muscle but starts and stops suddenly.

Not too bad with aching ribs etc.
It better not snow here as we will struggle to get to the hospital if it does!
Picked up the car seat today so would be more or less ready if it arrives early...

Yogibear72 · 30/01/2014 21:53

Dont worry Imeg I think most of the country isn't forecast snow.
Had some full on BHs last night after my post around midnight and had to get up to make myself a snack and some warm milk. It was a little bit frightening.
It must have been on my mind because I dreamt of pink shaded discharge which I suppose might be what my show might look like Confused
My bump has moved down again which might account for last nights drama.
35w 3d today.... I have an instinct that this baby will be earlier than 40 weeks. But then again it is first baby.

Lottie345 · 30/01/2014 22:01

Don't know about you fox but I can't even think what to cook or how to plan a shopping list anymore. Luckily DH is proving to be something of a ledge in the cooking department. It's just a shame he has to keep going to the shops as we can't seem to think ahead.

comms have you spoken to your boss? Mine was a lot more understanding today than in the past few weeks and months now I look like a beached whale. It's super hard not to notice at this stage that we're about to pop...

liberuna · 30/01/2014 23:09

Sorry to hear about all aches and pains. I guess this is the joys of nearing the end of the final trimester.

2 weeks ago bubs moved down so pressure on pelvis and bladder is huge. Even having an office job doesn't help with tiredness. I sympathise with you comms & lottie I've 3 weeks left and so much work to do not including handover.

Please no snow just when im the size of a house!

mrs im doing the tour on Monday

I've got my baby shower on Saturday which im just starting to look forward to ( I was a grumpy anti social who wanted a quiet peaceful house)

Personally I refuse to grow up I will be a child forever!!!

So whose got the next due date? I'm 09/03

OwlinaTree · 30/01/2014 23:33

I'm same as you lib, working till 14th, weeks' holiday, c section prob w/b 3rd.

dizhin79 · 30/01/2014 23:43

had a sprinkling of snow today, I'm the Midlands Grin didn't stick tho Sad

Am aiming to not be on here at 4am tomo morning with noise bleed and / or insomnia Confused

Lottie345 · 31/01/2014 04:19

Morning insomniacs. I'm same date as you lib and owl and also finishing on 14th. Cannot blinking wait. Just crawling there. Will prob go horribly overdue and be bored stiff, they say, but I can't imagine that EVER happening.

Must arrange tour of big scary hospital (birth centre/delivery suite) & lovely cosy and nearby MLU which my medical friends tell me would be FOOLISH to go to with a delivery suite/birth centre just 10 miles further. Go with gut instinct and potentially see on the day is my feeling...

dizhin79 · 31/01/2014 06:25

good luck with the tour, it felt a bit weird with ours, but I think that's cos our group was so big! lots of new mums and babies being gawped at goldfish bowl style!

I'm pleaded it is only 6ish and 4ish that iv am typing this!Grin
i'm trying to work up to the 28th but I have a few days holiday too so will prob stack those at the end so it may be the 24th instead CANNOT WAIT!

liberuna · 31/01/2014 06:58

Oh dear. Am I the only nutter working until 21st feb?

My mum is coming from abroad fir bubs so while I wouldn't mind coming a little earlier id hate for mum to miss it

FrankelInFoal · 31/01/2014 07:05

Morning all, TFI Friday and all that. Today's my last day at work - woo hoo!!!!!!!

DH hasn't been to an antenatal class yet. I'm doing Lazy Daisy and partners aren't allowed at the weekly class, they do a 4 hour workshop for couples instead so we're off to that next weekend.

I've got a tour of the MLU at The Rosie next Friday. There were a few others looking at The Rosie weren't there? Promise I'll report back with full details Grin

pixiebell79 · 31/01/2014 07:29

Lib, I'm working til 20th Feb if that helps? 3 weeks left and I cannot wait, esp as we have a major visit from our funder on 12th... So it's full speed too :(

On the plus side not due til 21st March so should get at least a couple of weeks before he arrives.

We did a tour of the hospital last weekend, it's never going to be the loveliest place to be but at least they've ramped up the privacy (en suites etc) and there's a strong chance a pool will be available, so I'm content.

Gotta go for a glucose tolerance test this morning - stomach's already growling at me from fasting, have to drink a load of lucozade and sit for a couple of hours. Fingers crossed I don't have diabetes though :S. anyone else had to do one?

puggywug81 · 31/01/2014 09:05

Congrats frankell I'm jealous! lib I don't go on mat leave till 28th Feb, although I an signed off work for the next 2 week's with pelvic pain and a trapped nerve in my shoulder. commsgirl I'm glad you're pains have eased. I'm spending today cuddled up to my lovely pug cross.
