Ooooo annakin I'm planning a home birth Smile.
Our nearest labour ward is 20 mins away on a good run, our nearest hospital however is 2 mins away but they shut the labour ward 20 odd years ago, and the flaming a&e last year! Idiots!! Our town is currently having 4000+ new homes built so that was a really bad move!!

So I've just spoken to the epu and they booked me a scan for next Friday Grin. Then I realised we're away mon-fri so it's the following Monday at 10.20. Great timing adds at nursery 8-1. Just need this little one to stay put! Then we will tell the parents.

isitme1 · 13/01/2014 10:49

Wow
cant imagine a home birth

My sis had her baby after I had ds1 and I was jealous (not the 100% best word) that she had a straight forward birth and was up once she got up doing everything she could. Unlike where I spent ages in hospital.
Obviously I was also happy that she didn't go through what I did.
X

Has anyone ever dieted whilst pregnant? Or followed a diet like WW/slimmers world? I know it's not the ideal time to start, but having just got on the scales, I just can't put any weight on. I was overweight before I had my 6.5month old, put on too much weight with her, have lost nothing- in fact put weight on since and was going to full on attack this come the new year.......
Now I'm pregnant again and very concerned about how much weight I'm going to stack on- only need to look at a choc etc before my bum grows, average weight gain past 2 pregnancies is 2.5 stone waaaaah, I know they are going to mention my weight, what can I do?

rockin20s · 13/01/2014 11:34

well i just rang about the homebirth and have my first appointment with the midwife! wed 26th of feb!!!! ah

givemeaboost · 13/01/2014 12:07

Hello can I join you lot, edd 20th sept here, knowing how overdue I go itll possibly be a early October baby. I have 3dcs myself but this baby is my friends (biologically mine and her husbands) we are over the moon as this was only our 2nd insem so it has happened quite quickly! I gave them the news Saturday and they are besides themselves with excitement!! they have had yrs of ivf etc and she can no longer produce eggs of any quality.

Im joining this thread as I need somewhere to vent etc, not all responses to being a surrogate have been positive, my sister (who herself has had problems ttc, but is now 20+wks with 1st baby) reacted especially badly and we haven't actually spoken since! she cannot believe I could give away a child, whereas I see it as donating my eggs, which would otherwise go to waste, but going one step further and actually carrying the baby too!

Feel ok at the moment, bit tired, sore breasts, constipated and that's about it!

givemeaboost · 13/01/2014 12:11

and boo it is possible and safe to follow a healthy eating plan whilst pregnant, sw/ww are ideal but I would be wary of any others that are more extreme. I myself am not at an ideal weight, 14.10 when I stepped on the scales at the wkend! I am going to be very careful with what I put in my mouth for the next 9 months! I will continue with zumba and hope that once morning sickness kicks in Ill lose a st or more like on my last pregnancy!

rockin20s · 13/01/2014 12:18

givemeaboost wow just wow i dont know what to say you truely are an amazing person!!!!!!!!

Congrats to you and your friends! hope everything runs smoothly for you!

boo i am going to try to maintain as healthy a lifestyle as i can right to the end. i would look at your eating as a healthy eating rather than diet, try to maintain your weight rather than lose weight.

you will need to be gaining about a pound a week in the second and third trimesters but all of that is:

  1. baby
  2. amniotic fluid
  3. placenta
  4. water retention
  5. extra blood

if you aim to stay within the weight gain guidelines then you should not gain much actual fat. try not to allow it get you down. i got a shock when i stepped on the scales sunday morning i had put on a half stone over christmas, i cant blame any of that on the baby

ThisIsMeNow · 13/01/2014 12:33

No midwife appointment here yet, have to wait for them to call me.

Giveme, wow! What an amazing gift for your friends! I couldn't do it but I think people who can are amazing.

Boo, I piled on the weight with dd, lost a bit and put a bit back on Blush so now I've decided rather than diet, I'm going to eat sensibly and healthily. Not cutting calories (although I actually am cutting them down a lot as I was massively over eating) sticking to women's guidelines, upping the veg intake, back to home cooked meals and no snacking, no sweets, chocolate, crisps but not totally denying myself. Had a roast yesterday but no stuffing or yorkshires and only a couple of roasts.

Have already lost a couple of pounds. Don't want to go mad or put baby at risk but I figure if I eat what I'm meant to be eating instead of twice as much Of the wrong stuff, it can't hurt.

givemeaboost · 13/01/2014 12:39

thisis that sounds like me, I lost 3.5st (entirely through exercise) then my best friend died very suddenly, had a terrible stressful yr afterwards and ate and ate! put the whole 3.5 back on Sad
Am just going to eat sensibly and keep the thought of the fact we only need an extra 200 calories a day whilst pregnant at the forefront of my mind!

Beccus · 13/01/2014 12:43

I put on 20kg with dd1 and still have 5 kgs to shift. it's all still on my tummy, so I already look about 20 weeks pregnant :(. I am just going to be much more careful this time and hopefully keep doing bikram yoga fpr longer than I managed to last time. fighting of a cold & am knackered. went back to bed today & yesterday. dd1 is having her settling in period at nursery, so I need to find some energy & get off my arse. giveme, wow, how generous, u r amazing! wishing u the best of luck

BooSurprise · 13/01/2014 13:13

Thanks I wasn't thinking too extreme, more of the healthy eating route really, I had GD last time, so I know that I will have to watch my carbs and sugar anyway, but I found it quite hard last time, not got the munchies yet tho, so hoping they stay away.
Giveme wow is all I can say, what an amazing friend you are.

whiteblossom · 13/01/2014 14:27

Im really worried about weight gain too, With my first I was so sick I lost weight and so once I gave birth It took a few months but was back to normal weight. Since the nausea started this time, Im constantly eating to try and keep it at bay. So I suspect Ill be quite a bit bigger, but Ill be out walking the dog going on my crosstrainer and hitting the pool afterwards so hopefully It will come back off.

I also plan on batch cooking in advance, good healthy meals so I have something to hand for the first month or two.

Ive gone from a 12 to a 14 already Sad arrgghhh.

As for the PND, I had it badly first time and the main reason why its taken so long to have a second. I spoke to gp who scoffed. He thought it was too early to discuss it but should discuss it with mw...so Ill see what she says at end of month.

Whats everyone craving? Im craving pasta (fresh!)and tomatoes. Anyone else eating through the nausea?

rockin20s · 13/01/2014 14:56

I dont think i have had any cravings yet (4w4d) but had a load of pasta and bread yesterday so maybe i am craving them... no idea.

i lost nearly 3 stone about 6 years ago and have been slowly putting it back on since then. go on a diet every few months lose a few pounds then christmas/birthday/holiday comes along and the pounds go back on. I really dont want to balloon with this pregnancy but i am also going to be realistic and no i will but on some weight

Metalhead · 13/01/2014 14:57

I'm with you on PND being the reason to delay ttc#2 whiteblossom! Hadn't really occurred to me to talk to anyone about it though, I thought I'll just wait and see what happens and hope for the best? That said, I would seek help sooner this time if I was unlucky enough to get it again.

I haven't got any cravings yet, and nausea is still very faint luckily, but I do find I'm a lot more hungry and if I don't eat for a few hours I get a funny taste in my mouth.

Dragged myself out for a short run earlier which I thought might do me good but was soooo hard, so will probably stick with the exercise bike for now...

whiteblossom · 13/01/2014 15:07

omg metalhead you put me to shame going for a run, I cant leave the sofa. Im normally quite active too but I just feel dreadful.

Well the PND was very bad and it had huge knock on effects both on motherhood and my dh, once I turned a corner my dh suffered with depression not that either of us realised we were both in a state.

My ds never slept. It was hell, it had me questioned what the hell I had done, who does this more than once are they mad. BUT every baby is different and I know that I just have given up bf and just got on with the bottle and I didn't have any mw support they were very 'get on with it' it was only the nurse at my gp who 'just stop bf, its not working' so I did. Oh that and a baby swing Grin

I will be talking at length with a mw about it until Im blue in the face because we just cant go through that again.

Metalhead · 13/01/2014 15:19

That sounds awful whiteblossom. I too had many a moment when I thought what have I done, can I give her back, and DD was a relatively good sleeper! She was quite high maintenance during the day and cried a lot though. I'm kind of dreading getting a really difficult baby this time round as I think if I couldn't even cope with DD, how on earth would I manage with a non-sleeper... but at the moment I'm trying not to get ahead of myself and worry about things like that!

waffles1990 · 13/01/2014 15:19

This nausea is no fun at all. Currently in bed. Can't face work. Or food or ANYTHING!!!

Re: weight management in pregnancy - key is to eat healthily rather than portion restrictions, but SW and WW etc will have great low fat recipe ideas so can still be utilised there

Then it's just about keeping active, at least 30 min moderate exercise a day (you should be at a level where you are able to talk, when pregnant) ie walking, swimming. Google "Tommy's baby charity exercise in pregnancy" for very good guide.

Some hospitals (I know st Mary's Manchester do as currently running research on raised BMI in pregnancy) may also offer specialist midwife or dietician support so worth asking your midwife

Metalhead · 13/01/2014 15:31

Hi waffles, quick question for you: do you know roughly how long it should take to get an appt for early dating scan through, or does it vary a lot between hospitals?

Metalhead · 13/01/2014 15:32

Oh, and sorry you're feeling so sick!

whiteblossom · 13/01/2014 15:54

mmmm 30 mins walking. Well there's the school run that's erm..about 20 mins a day Blush

I really need to start moving myself don't I. urgh nausea and tiredness together.

and step away from the salted pringles...but they helpppp!!

Am I the only one that cant move, waffles back me up, you don't wanna get out of bed...someone Grin

waffles1990 · 13/01/2014 16:02

nope whiteblossom completely with you, I just feel completely incapable of taking part in life at the minute!!! :(

metalhead I think it might vary on your circumstances, do u mind me asking why you'd need an early scan?

Metalhead · 13/01/2014 16:20

It's just to check how far along I am, I think I conceived on 18 December but my last period was on 13 Ocotber! (I'm pretty sure about my dates as I was using opks etc, but obviously my GP didn't trust me Grin)

waffles1990 · 13/01/2014 16:37

Ahh lol. Hmm I would've thought it would be ASAP, within next week or so tbh
