Good Lucjk LH

Lucy thats amazing, I pray mine is the same, i've heard a few horror stories recently so will go in expecting the worst (thats the advice I've been given by the people who had the horrors!)

I've also heard similar stories to yours. You're not sad at all, this is my first and i'm already excited about the labour. Ask me again how I feel afterwards but I just think it's an amazing thing and can't wait to experience it all!

flymo79 · 16/01/2014 13:24

aw LH, sorry you are leaving us, but at least it's not for the worst reason. Everything crossed for a healthy pregnancy xx

Thanks Ladies,

Hungry I just burst into tears at your post. Thank you!
I know this early it's no use getting worked up as anything could happen but when she said 'I can't see anything' I was a little crushed and convinced it was doom and gloom! xx

WeeJo08 · 16/01/2014 13:31

Pina I think that's a really healthy, good attitude to have - I was also looking forward to it as well. I can't say I loved the birth like Lucy(!) but thankfully for a first baby mine was pretty quick too...well, dilation was quick - pushing a bit longer, but overall a good experience! I remember feeling like I could do anything afterwards - kept looking at DD and couldn't believe that we had made her and a few hours before she had been inside me! It's an amazing experience. I choose not to listen to horror stories. I also refuse to get hung up on how babies arrive, whether by C-section, natural, assisted or by the stork - if they do so healthily then it's a roaring success in my book!

HungryHorace · 16/01/2014 13:32

Bless you, LH, you're definitely pregnant! :-)

Please try not to worry (says Little Miss Worried!).

Do you have another digi you can do in a week or so's time? xx

LH1981 · 16/01/2014 13:36

Hungry Grin
Yeah, think I'll grab a digi end of next week. I get my blood results on Monday so that will be a good indicator too.

Just to say, in case anyone is thinking of it - I had number 2 at home. In a blow-up water pool and it was amazing. Didn't have any drugs with either birth as g&a and peth make me vom and the epi just freaked me out too much.
Anyway, if anyone wants any info, let me know. xx

lucyfluff · 16/01/2014 13:40

Agree weejo, its such an amazing experience. I have always had the mentality that the baby has to come out one way or another and not panicked, just kind of let my body take over really and do the work. I remember having oscar and saying to the midwife 'wow that was like an out of body experience' - I was probably still high Smile but she said thats exactly how many women explain it!!!

I know Im lucky to labour well just hoping this little bean does too Smile

PinaColadas · 16/01/2014 13:54

weejo eek it makes me so excited! I can't wait to experience it! I'll never say never about pain relief because I might not cope but I really hate the idea of an epidural and G&A makes me feel vom, I'm just going to go with it and enjoy it.
Lucy Thats fab way of thinking about it, worrying and stressing isn't going to help, it has to get out somehow so you just have to go with it.
I still can't get my head around the fact that i'm growing a person!

WeeJo08 · 16/01/2014 14:11

Pina That's a pretty sensible way to look at it! I didn't have time for pain relief at DD's birth (although I would've had actually...they just thought for about 2.5 hours that she was going to arrive imminently!) Re: the epidural, I had to have one after she was born as I had to go to theatre and I tried to look at like, well, I wouldn't refuse an anaesthetic if I was having an operation, so this is just like that. It helped me to think of it that way, sort of like, I will do what I need to do. In the end, there are no bravery badges and I think our society has this annoying thing of thinking that if we didn't suffer for it it's not as enjoyable....I don't hold with that school of thought!! Grin

FriendofDorothy · 16/01/2014 14:17

I went with the flow. Plan was to try with G&A and if I needed pethidine/whatever I would have that, if I was advised I needed intervention then I would have it and if it ended up in a C-section I would have that.

I think sometimes if you are really prescriptive about the sort of birth you want then it is easy to be very disappointed when you don't get it.

I was just grateful and in awe that we were both (mostly) intact and safe!

ArGembreiz · 16/01/2014 14:26

Hello ladies

Can I join in please?

First baby due 17th August :)

HungryHorace · 16/01/2014 14:31

Friend, that's how I was too, and ended up with an EMCS, but DD was born safely which is all that matters. I didn't write a birth plan either. Far too much effort!

Hi Ar! How old are you if you don't mind me asking? :-)

Shakshuka · 16/01/2014 14:31

DD1's birth was hard. I found labour long, hard and scary. i wish I'd taken a doula or been better prepared for the pain. I asked for an epidural which gave me about 10 minutes of bliss and then the pain started again, at first concentrated in a small area which was hell and then spreading. They tried to reposition it and top it up but it just didn't work. It was worse than not having had the epidural. Then two hours of pushing where I thought I'd die. And an episiotomy with no anaethestic when DD came out. I screamed like I've never screamed before when they cut me :( .

DD2's birth was amazing in comparison. It was in the US so had my own midwife who was lovely and very supportive (we'd also arranged with a student doula to come but she decided not to because I went to the hospital at 5.30am on an icy Sunday morning!!!). After the ordeal of the failed epidural, I decided I'd rather not have one if possible and since they don't do gas and air here, I didn't have any other pain relief. Her birth was painful, obviously, but in a positive way and the pushing was only half an hour even though she was 10lbs. I had an episiotomy with her as well and I remember the midwife apologizing as she did it (after injecting some local anaesthetic which DID make a difference).

PinaColadas · 16/01/2014 14:42

Shak 10lbs sounds eye watering!! Good work!

I don't really understand the whole birth plan, I agree that everyone has to do what they can to get baby into the world safely for both of you. I would absolutely love a water birth but knowing and hearing what my local hospital is like i'm to think myself lucky if I even get a bed...;)

Shakshuka · 16/01/2014 14:47

It really was fine giving birth to a 10lb-er. I think once it's all been stretched out down below, a pound or two either way doesn't make much difference Grin

WeeJo08 · 16/01/2014 15:25

Pina I'd like to try a water birth again this time too! With DD I found the relief was fantastic the second I got into the water...being as whale-like as I felt like by then I guess that's sort of apt!! I didn't have DD in the water though, as I found my contractions slowed when I was in the water (which was fine by me!!) but the MW said I should get out again! I did have a lovely hour in there though.

Blamenargles · 16/01/2014 15:28

Hi everyone hope your all ok.

I'm really posses off 12 weeks tomorrow and no scan date rang the midwife Monday and my referral never got sent through she has resent it as urgent but still could be in a few weeks time I may have to go on the cancelation list!
I just want to know everything's ok and DP normally works away he knows he's at home till next week but not sure where he will be after that and he really want to come and I certainly don't want to go in my own.

He thinks I should ring back and get them to book me in over the phone.

I just want to see everything's ok

I just holding on to the fact I'm sick every morning and my bump has appeared already

flymo79 · 16/01/2014 15:37

oh no, that's rubbish blamenargles, I would be pissed off too. Everything crossed you can get a cancellation so DP can go with you. You might try calling them back and giving them all the reasons you have above

I tried a water birth too, but although it felt good I had to get out in the end as I was too tired to stay up on my knees!

pina, I felt the same as you about writing a birth plan, but in hindsight I think that it was a good idea for me. I had a good labour - no horror stories here - but there are certain things I think could have been better if I had known what I was going to be like in labour.

As it turned out, in labour I go completely into myself - I couldn't / didn't want to communicate at all, although I could hear what everyone was saying. So I was relying on my birth plan and my husband to make sure the midwife knew what I wanted, which was important when she tried to give me a drug I didn't want. Because dh knew my preferences, he was able to speak for me when I literally couldn't.

My birth plan was very loose, ie I said that I would go with whatever was best for the baby, but my ideal was xyz. It just meant that dh had something to fall back on when asked to make a decision.

And second time around, a birth plan will allow me to write down how I was in labour before, and what I learned from that. Ie that I need to be reminded of certain basics, and that I can still hear what is being said (so please talk to me instead of about me!).

I feel that if all goes well and I get to the point of labour, I will be calmer knowing I have a birth plan because it'll be like I have a voice even if I can't speak again.

flymo79 · 16/01/2014 15:48

Does anyone have any tips for healthy things to eat that will actually stop me feeling hungry? I feel as though I'm putting on lots of weight and all there seems to be around for snacking on is biscuits. I have cereal in the morning and have had to swap my salad at lunch for a sandwich as I get so hungry. But then by the afternoon I am hungry/sick again! I feel like I eat enough fruit but it just doesn't fill me up....

Secretlypregnant · 16/01/2014 15:52

Flymo, I would just go with what your body tells you it fancies. After you're past the 12/13 week mark and sickness hopefully dissipates, you might find you fancy healthier stuff anyway. I went on to carrots in later pregnancy. Not too many of course, but ok in moderation.

PinaColadas · 16/01/2014 16:10

secretly that's good advice, I certianly don't want to be offered pain relief so i'll put that down, but sounds like they should be treated more as guidelines than setting your heart on it being a certain way.

A birthing pool sounds great, so i've heard you're best to keep mobile to keep the labour progressing so maybe imagining being in there the whole time isn't going to work.

Flymo i'm struggling with this too, I fancy melon and nothing more, I gave in to this today and had it for my breakfast and have felt rubbish all day, had weetabix rest of week and felt not too bad, think melon is just not substantial enough, carbs all the way. Cereal is a good one as its carby but not high in fat especially if you're using skimmed milk.

What about popcorn to snack on throughout the day? I've heard its good for you (not the ones covered in toffee, yum) but those microwave type slightly sweet ones, I snacked on pop corn yesterday and it kept me sick free!

Ruggle · 16/01/2014 16:13

Flymo, if you can stomach porridge then that should defo fill you up, or failing that maybe oatcakes with cream cheese. Yum.

I've been so sick over the past week or so and barely eating a thing on bad days....but today overdosing on salad a fruit...trying to compensate for the days when only junk food stays down. Yesterday I ate biscuits, Doritos with hot salsa, and ice lollies....and not much else.

Ruggle · 16/01/2014 16:15

Just a note re popcorn....It's the worst think in the world to throw up (I discovered)...so if you are actually vomming rather than just nauseous, best avoided.

PinaColadas · 16/01/2014 16:25

Good tip Ruggle I'm not physically sick so think I'm ok but I can't imagine that being stuck in your nose on the way out being very nice!
