Bee really hope you're feeling better today.

red and marlena (and everyone else back at work) - hope its not too grim. I feel very sad it's practically all over. I'm 'on call' today and tomorrow, and utterly dreading Monday. My husband starts a new job next week, which is good, but I'm doing all nursery drop offs and pick ups for the next few weeks so its going to be very tiring.

I haven't actually been off much this Xmas but really should have taken today and tomorrow off. New year with nothing in the short term to look forward to is depressing. Slightly excited I have a midwife appointment on Tuesday so can work from home!

Happy New Year ladies!! Wishing you all a lovely 2014, it's crazy thinking we'll meet our babies this year.

Thanks for the new thread hackney and the link marlena

Welcome to the thread lena :)

I really feel for those of you who have had to go back to work today, I don't go back until Monday and am dreading it.

I'm struggling with a cold at the moment, so so bunged up, it's ok in the day but at night I feel like I can't breath. Probably not made any better by spending new year out in the snow until 1am.

I got in such a state last night in the middle of the night, crying, finding it harder to breath etc I ended up using a nasal spray which worked almost instantly and I slept for a full 7 hours, but I feel terrible for using it as everything I read says you are not supposed too.

We're still away (in the alps) which probably isn't helping my cold at all but it's lovely relaxing and not doing much, and also spending some lovely time with DH.....even if I am all blocked up.

BEEwitched · 02/01/2014 10:57

Good morning!

Sorry to those of you who have to go back to work today, I hope you make it through the day and there's at least something that brings a smile to your face!

I need to see what to do about my sick line - tbh, I think I should've pushed earlier to either have my hours/work patterns or jobs at work adjusted to something I can actually do, and if they can't do that suspend me on pay for the rest of the pregnancy.

I have anxiety dreams about going back to work, it's become such a big thing in my head - but I only get another month of full-pay sickpay and being on SSP during the calculating week would affect my maternity pay and we can't really afford that to happen.

I'm off to register with the new GP practise - they're not going to be pleased with me as you have to get a check-up with the nurse first, but then I need to get into the midwife clinic and see a GP to talk about my health, as well. It think they generally prefer you to sign up and then not need their services for a while....

BEEwitched · 02/01/2014 10:59

Vicky I don't think using a nasal spray once is going to be too bad, not at this stage, but have you tried saline nasal sprays? They're perfectly safe and can help with congestion, as does an improvised steam-tent. Just take a heatproof bowl and fill it with hot water, but some salt in it (normally I'd suggest camomile tea but I'm not sure that's ok during pregnancy), put a towel over the bowl and stick your head in.

Guaranteed to help! (asthmatics all over my family and we never needed antibiotics for our frequent bouts of bronchitis, this really works well if you can't sleep)

Riblet · 02/01/2014 11:01

Happy new year (and new thread) to you all! Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas - haven't been on here as been away but am back in work today, boo. Had a quick read through- sorry to hear so many of you are still feeling rough. Been ok here but starting to feel massive and only a bit of it is bump - despite everyone saying 'but you're having twins', I know I am eating FAR too much rubbish. Anyway, am putting DH on a healthy eating plan on Monday as he's gaining a sympathy belly so am going to join him; can only be good for the babies to eat more healthy stuff.

Lots of baby talk in the Riblet household over Christmas as DH's sis had her first baby, a boy, just after xmas at 40+3. She had a membrane sweep the day before then waters broke on the day he was born but he started to get distressed and passed the meconium so she had an EMCS. Mother and baby are fine (MIL is there to take charge help) and looking forward to visiting them soon Smile

Hello to the new joiners. Is both exciting and scary that we are having our babies THIS YEAR! Shock

Poetschild · 02/01/2014 11:43

Hope everyone has had a lovely holiday. We've been staying at a cottage with friends this week which has been fun and exhausting. Each couple has taken a different night to cook so we've had lots of yummy food. Going to the beach this afternoon as it's a lovely day.

Dreading work on Monday!

SleepyNess · 02/01/2014 11:45

Riblet, my DH got a sympathy bump as well! So he decided to go on a diet and I get to eat all the ice cream in the freezer, yay!!

summerbaby2014 · 02/01/2014 12:27

So, I bit the bullet this morning and weighed myself.

I've put on 8lbs :/

How does this compare with everyone else?

As DH said..."well, you've been eating a lot so I'm not surprised"

Helpful!

Thinking of trying the gym tonight to see how it goes

SleepyNess · 02/01/2014 12:30

I initially lost about 2kg and now gained them back plus additional kg.

Bezzabelle · 02/01/2014 12:45

Hi all.
I lost quite a bit in week 8/9 due to excessive vomiting but have put all that back on plus a stone and will be 19 weeks on sat- eek! Thinks is more turkey than baby though!! Did put on 3 stone with ds and was hoping to avoid that this time but hey Ho. Starting swimming again from tonight now I feel less crap so hope that'll slow down the weight gain. Will be happy if I put on anything under 2 and a half stone!

CleverOl10 · 02/01/2014 13:03

I'm still losing weight. Never lost weight without trying in my life and now doesn't feel like the right time. Am seeing midwife tomorrow and will be bringing it up. Am 8lbs less than when I got pregnant. I am overweight anyway so it is probably ok but doesn't feel right. Hmm

Biffle · 02/01/2014 13:03

By this point (15 weeks) with both DDs i had put on around 21 lbs but so far have only put on 8lbs this time so am really pleased with myself. Now I don't feel rubbish all the time I am hoping to eat more sensibly and minimise the weight gain. I am already overweight so need to be careful in order to avoid GD Blush

Riblet · 02/01/2014 13:08

LOL Sleepy, your DH is good to go on a diet of his own accord, mine has to have me put him on one! It would have been earlier but he persuaded me to wait until Monday, which I didn't argue too much with as still got a fair bit of naughty food to eat (Yule log for breakfast? Why not!)

Summerbaby - you must be motivated to be contemplating the gym! My head is firmly buried in the sand over this one - got weighed at booking appointment and that's it. I know I'm putting on too much and aim to eat more healthily and go to antenatal fitness classes but I am not going near the scales- as far as I'm concerned there's no point depressing/stressing myself when I don't know how much is lard and how much is babies and their associated goo!

Mitchell2 · 02/01/2014 13:10

I most definitely will not be getting on scales any time soon... it was too depressing before I was preggers and I really don't think for me its a good idea to go down that route. One of my biggest fears in pregnancy is the weight gain - so much so my DP has hidden scales from me.

All my clothes (bar my jeans at the belly) still fit fine at the moment so I'm satisfied that I have not put too much unwanted weight on. Cutting out drinking seems to have offset any extra calories from the food I've been craving anyway. I figure as long as its bump and not much else then that's all good. yes I probably am in denial a little!

giraffelegs · 02/01/2014 13:23

I have put on 7 pounds so far. I can't remember how quickly I gained with DD but in total I put on 2 and a half stone. I am borderline underweight but this still doesn't mean I should be eating all the crap that I am!

Back to work today which is a welcome break from DD as she has decided sleep isn't necessary but tantrums are.....

BEEwitched · 02/01/2014 13:26

I'm not weighing myself - I have an appointment with a nurse at the new GP practise next week so I guess she'll weigh me, but they haven't checked my weight since booking in and I don't care at the moment, as long as it says under control (which I can feel it has so far) I'm not worried.

A friend of mine gained 30kg during her pregnancy and lost it all afterwards, mostly because she was breastfeeding.

clever I'd definitely bring it up! I know they're more hands-off here but my mom didn't gain any weight when she was pregnant with my brother (she was overweight, as well) and she had scans ever 4 weeks or so to make sure he was growing properly, so I think an extra check-up would be nice!

MarlenaGru · 02/01/2014 13:39

I had gained nothing with DD by this point but I think I have put on about 3 or 4kg this time. Last weigh it was 2kg but that was ages ago.

summer don't worry too much as it really does fall off for most people with breastfeeding. I am starting maternally fit on Tuesday which has been recommended and is all over London. Not sure I could cope at the gym as I feel out of breath walking at the moment!

clever a few friends who were pregnant with me lost weight back then and I think as long as you are not underweight the baby will take what he needs first so should be fine.

Sareva · 02/01/2014 14:10

Happy new year Ladies

Thanks for the welcome, and welcome to Lena also.

I've been trying to post since yesterday from my phone (its an iPhone 5), but it will not let me post. Is anybody else posting from an iPhone? I'm sure its me, and something I'm doing.

summerbaby2014 · 02/01/2014 14:14

Mine works from an iPhone, it's a bit tempermental sometimes.
Try the mobile site, and if you're not actually using wifi then turn off the wifi connection, that usually helps

Sareva · 02/01/2014 14:29

Thanks Summer - i'll try that and see how I get on

MarlenaGru · 02/01/2014 14:43

sareva have you got JavaScript enabled? I know this was a problem with an old forum I used many years ago. It is under settings>Safari>advanced.
I am posting from iPhone 5S on safari and never had any problems with doing anything including links.

mylittlel · 02/01/2014 14:48

Hello there, had my 16 weeks appt today, it was quite quick, MW checked urine sample, answered my question (apparently it way to early for hospital excursion and to book parenting classes) we listened to baby's heart and i've cried my eyes out, the best birthday present!!

superlambanana · 02/01/2014 15:08

My mum has given me some saline spray - haven't used it yet but she reckons it's wonderful stuff.

Just tidying up before the cleaners come... Sounds strange but the more tidying we do the more actual cleaning they can do, and it motivates me as I can't bear anyone to see the current mess!!
