Countdown, is that your 12 week scan? Very exciting!

And in relation to chasing, I'd always contact the midwife. :-)

lucyfluff · 07/01/2014 10:38

Sad ruggle...that sounds very scary! good that you reported it though, at least that will be on record. Some people are so odd!!!

Im not taking any extra vitamins except f acid...will speak to GP thursday when I book in eekkkkSmile

CountdownBegins · 07/01/2014 10:40

hungry its an early reassurance scan because of the previous mc- I'll be 9wk 4d though so not exactly early- I'm looking forward to seeing how everything is going!

I might get the Sainsburys ones- are they a lot cheaper than the pregnacare? I stocked up and now it just feels like a waste of money!

flymo79 · 07/01/2014 10:41

yes 2beornot, I agree with countdown, call your midwife and follow up, ASAP. I got a call on christmas eve, but if I hadn't I'd have been straight on the phone to them. Just make sure your doctor has sent on the referral. I also wasn't certain who was dealing but because I had told the doc which hospital I wanted to go to the call came from them.

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 07/01/2014 10:45

I know the thread has moved on, but Clarissa - I thought that article was really good. It really is true that our lives are so easy in lots of ways that having a baby is more of a shock than it would have been in the old days, and we're expected to show our happy faces all the time. I think I always managed to step back and get a bit of perspective when I was on mat leave with DD but that didn't mean there weren't times when I cried helplessly while she calmly played/screamed/slept/whatever! And still now, I sometimes get so angry and upset when she won't sleep for whatever reason, even though (of course) she is wonderful and it really is "all worth it". Thank god for Mumsnet - there is always someone on here who understands how you're feeling and doesn't judge.

I have been bringing loads of food to work (at least twice as much as usual) to try and keep the sickness at bay. Thought I was doing ok this morning but have just had to run to the loo and be violently sick - so might as well have eaten nothing this morning! Wish I had brought some toothpaste - I have mints but still have that yucky taste in my mouth Sad. Speaking of which, when I was pregnant with DD I had the metallic taste for the first trimester, but this time it just tastes of sour milk Envy

HungryHorace · 07/01/2014 10:52

The Sainsbury's ones were £5 a box, but on 3 for 2, so could've been worse. They're bastard HUGE though. :-/

And early scan is good. Are you nervous or OK?

We're just not bothering with a private scan. Our 12 week scan is 3 weeks yesterday, so we will just wait. I couldn't be arsed driving 20 miles to be honest, anyway!

The taste in my mouth is soapy, not metallic. It's grim. Just when I thought it'd gone it comes back.

I'm not feeling too sick yet today. Hope it lasts!

ClarissaG · 07/01/2014 10:57

Really good to hear everyones contrasting views DuPain etc, and don't apologize lucyfluff, I just copied and pasted!

...off to eat some MORE now, mango is currently the pick of the day, and ginger biscuits.

CountdownBegins · 07/01/2014 10:59

I'm feeling ok at the minute about it- I think I was more nervous last week but now it's so close it will be nice just to know if everything is ok. Fingers crossed! The sickness and this horrible cold I have are a lovely distraction.

I'm not too bad taking large pills- I remember having to take iron supplements a few years ago and they were the size of a boiled sweet!

The taste in my mouth tastes like mud and sometimes metallic (what i expect mud to taste like...not that I go around eating mud) ha!

DreamPhone · 07/01/2014 11:26

Hi Ladies, I'm new here and so glad I found this thread! Congratulations all :) This is my first pregnancy.

I'll be 10 wks tomorrow, due 6th August - GP sent me for an early dating scan just before Christmas because she couldn't figure out my EDD (combo of irregular cycle and a couple of false negative tests). At the time the GP said I could be as early as three weeks! It was such a worry - I think I would rather be blissfully ignorant that early on. Anyway we went for the scan and there it was - 7 weeks 5 days!

Is anyone else wishing away the next few weeks until the 12 week scan? Also, the exhaustion! I had no idea it would be so physically hard so early on - I thought it was the weight of the baby that made you tired!

flymo79 · 07/01/2014 12:12

Hi DreamPhone and congrats! Yep, I feel your pain, so agonisingly far until my scan (two weeks today!) has me constantly wondering if I feel "pregnant enough" today! It must've been reassuring going for your scan at 7.5 weeks and seeing the baby, extra congratulations for that. The exhaustion is terrible, and it's funny how no-one mentions it (I suppose because the bigger you get the more you forget these early days of exhaustion and thumb-twiddling!!). Anyway, welcome!

2beornot · 07/01/2014 12:18

Hi dreamphone!

Welcome! Good news about the early scan! It is surprising how tired you can be in the early stages. I think second trimester is the easiest from that point of view.

DreamPhone · 07/01/2014 12:23

Thank you Flymo! I know what you mean re. feeling 'pregnant enough' - my nausea has nearly subsided and I sort of wish it would come back (I know! Be careful what you wish for right) as it's something else to cling on to. Two weeks today! Best of luck :)

I feel like I've barged in on the thread, I hope that's ok. Just wanted to get involved - it's so good to read posts from people going through the same thing!

flymo79 · 07/01/2014 12:27

you haven't at all barged in Dream, we're all as entitled to be here as each other!

My boss has just really pissed me off and I feel like I want to quit! total overreaction I know... just feel as though work is one thing too many at the moment

DreamPhone · 07/01/2014 12:31

Thanks 2bernot! It was really reassuring to see it's little heart beating. Roll on the second trimester eh?

I've got a similar attitude towards work at the moment (though probably best if I leave it at that as I am currently typing this on their computer after all ;)

Jenbee1 · 07/01/2014 12:36

That wasn't exactly as expected. My booking appointment was bloods (I did warn her I had difficult veins but she wouldn't listen Smile), urine, height and weight and that was it. I've been given the forms to fill out myself and the mw is coming to visit me at home on Saturday. I've not heard of it being done that way before.

CountdownBegins · 07/01/2014 12:41

Welcome Dreamphone! Your name has reminded me of the game- god I used to love that!!

DreamPhone · 07/01/2014 12:57

Jenbee - my booking in appointment was exactly the same. The bloods were a nice surprise (not). I had to lie down after because I could feel that fainting feeling creeping up my legs. No home visit for me though - I wonder why that is?

CountDown - tee hee me too :)

Shakshuka · 07/01/2014 13:37

I thought there were some valid points in that article clarissa.

I'm not a baby person. I find babies a bit boring and physically and emotionally exhausting. And when they cry and you haven't a clue what's wrong with them...I much prefer it when they start speaking and you can actually hold a conversation with them and they can tell you if something's bothering them! I do get some pleasure from infancy, it's not all bad, but I definitely don't miss the baby years. But now that my 10 year old is in the tween attitude years, I do miss the really cute years that went before :)

I was supposed to go have a blood test today. However, it's -10 out there and it's not getting any warmer. I'm working from home so wild horses won't drag me out of my nice warm house and fluffy dressing gown!!!

ruggle that's really freaky! Well done for calling the police. You definitely get some strange types in London!!

I've been having cramps, some brown bleeding and my nausea is a lot better. Hoping these are not ominous signs!!

flymo79 · 07/01/2014 14:44

oh shak, sorry to hear about the cramps etc, fingers crossed for you (and for the wretched weather!!) xxx

Shakshuka · 07/01/2014 14:53

Thank you flymo! The cramps aren't bad, less than period pains, but just niggly. And I bled a lot more with both my other pregnancies which were fine so I hope it's just what I do when pregnant. Plus I remember the nausea being very on and off before and it definitely cleared up by 12 weeks. And I had a scan at 8+4 where every thing was perfect. So trying to think positively. I have my 12 week scan 2 weeks on Thursday so I guess I'll find out then if nothing happens before! But the worry is always there at the back of your mind.

flymo79 · 07/01/2014 14:55

oh, that's hopefully a relief Shak, good luck for 12 week scan, mine is 2 weeks today so they're going to be coming thick and fast!

Racal7 · 07/01/2014 14:56

DreamPhone, this is my first time too. Due mid August. I sooo didn't realise the early stages would be this hard and I am definitely wishing away the next few weeks till my 12 week scan. So know what you mean!

Feelingfatty · 07/01/2014 15:50

Good luck with any scans today/tomorrow.

My friend had midwife come to her, think it differs in each area. I had to go pick up the notes to fill in ready for booking in next week.

Feeling very poorly today. Confused Very nauseas, just got out the shower and can't even face going downstairs, poor dd so catching up on here to get the energy to venture on down!!

Only a couple more days until my scan excited and nervous!! Grin

DreamPhone · 07/01/2014 16:23

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone's scans - not long to go now!

Congrats Racal7! Most people seem to say they felt better after week 12, that's what I'm holding onto! In the meantime I've just given in to the exhaustion.

My friend is a Dr. and she said that during the first 12 weeks the baby is feeding off our blood / fluid supply so to speak but our bodies don't start producing more blood cells etc. to compensate until after the first trimester hence the tiredness. That's my very non-technical interpretation of what she said anyway!

flymo79 · 07/01/2014 16:32

eeek! exciting feeling, I can't even imagine being close to my scan it's felt so far off for so long! I think it's doubly hard to wait for anything in January, being so cold and dark and miserable... and wet and windy!
