shakshuka so glad someone else feels the same... I am gonna try really eating healthy when I can stomach it and exercise DVDs as soon as the nausea goes.. just so I don't put on another 4stone Blush

we are definitely going to find out the sex of this bubba... love buying colours Grin

mszeenwithabean · 29/12/2013 14:51

BTW props to you for giving birth to a 10lb baby Shock and what is a 30 day shred?

Shakshuka · 29/12/2013 15:19

Actually dd2's birth was great. Much much easier than dd1 who was 2lbs lighter I guess once it's all been stretched out down there, a pound or two difference coming through second time doesn't make all that much difference Grin. I had her with no pain relief either, they don't even do gas and air here.

The problem is that there are so many heath issues associated with very big babies. I look at dd2 and feel very guilty sometimes about the size she was born.

The 30 day shred is an exercise DVD which has workouts of 25 minutes each. Its pretty intense but it's short so I can keep myself motivated to do it.

HungryHorace · 29/12/2013 15:23

Shak, what health problems do big babies have? And how big is big? DD was 9lb 7oz, but I've not been warned about any potential issues.

Is 30 day shred suitable in pregnancy? I have to be careful what exercise I do due to my separated abs. But I'll worry about that after this baby comes along!

Shakshuka · 29/12/2013 15:31

There are issues of increased likelihood of obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, heart disease. Dd2 is 7 and she's still overweight. She's going down the bmi centiles very slowly so movement is in the right direction (she was in the obese category but is now in the overweight). I don't know if her size is connected with her birth weight or just coincidence but she stayed a big baby and was a chubby toddler (and this was with being exclusively breasted until 6 months and then doing baby led weaning). I read that book about sugar by lustig and it made a lot of sense.

HungryHorace · 29/12/2013 15:46

Interesting. DD is 91st centile for weight (75th at birth) and 96th for height, so not overweight.

I'll ask the dietician next month I think (DD is lactose intolerant).

HalfPintPickle · 29/12/2013 15:47

I had an ELCS as DD was breech. Tried an ECV which didn't work so had to have a section.
Undecided about what route to go down this time.

Recovery, for me, was great. You have to know your limits in the first few weeks but if you keep within those, the following weeks/ months after are no troube at all.

both my girls were small at birth 5lb15 and 6lb9 dit just seems to be me that puts all the weight on 4-5stone Blush and supposedly the recommended weight gain is 1.5-2stone Blush Blush so this time I will endeavour to stick to the recommended Smile ... am super unfit so not sure if I can embark on anything too strenuous but will def have a look at the 30 day shred have bought Erin o'brians prenatal pregnancy fix (I think it's called) and am looking into a yoga DVD.

mszeenwithabean · 29/12/2013 16:13

halfpint I had an undiagnosed vaginal breech (and back to back) home birth with my dd2 so I'm not sure what options they will give me this time but hoping more scans will be one of the precautions and an ELCS will be on the table as an option also... personally I would rather not push out another breech babyHmm

miserywaterfall · 29/12/2013 16:14

Okay reading about weight gain in pregnancy is scaring the hell out of me. According to the NHS BMI thing I am 7st overweight right now, so the idea of possibly putting on as much as 4st is terrifying. Though I know the NHS are saying that losing that much would be my healthy weight, I'd be happy to be a size 16 Blush Really anxious to speak to the midwife now and see if there are some diet options for me, other than eating healthily...

Exercise is just not going to happen...as soon as college starts up again then I am back on my two mile walk, every day, so that's good, but is honestly about as much as I could manage, while feeling this knackered!!

HungryHorace · 29/12/2013 16:19

Misery, I think the MW can refer to Slimming World which can be followed when pregnant. Quite often, if you have a high BMI, you can get away without much weight gain if you're careful.

I would prefer to try to do something like that and will definitely ask about a referral if I qualify.

It's worth asking.

Mrsantithetic · 29/12/2013 16:21

Glad a double buggy has been mentioned. Dd will be 22 months old when lo arrives. Am I right in thinking I will need one? She walks really well but I don't have a car and currently walk everywhere as local public transport is rubbish. She would manage the shops about a five ten minute walk by then at a very slow speed but I don't think she would manage a 2-3 mile journey I don't suppose?

Anyone looked into a baby jogger mini double

HungryHorace · 29/12/2013 16:24

www.slimmingworld.com/health/swor/how-does-it-work.aspx

Here goes.

HungryHorace · 29/12/2013 16:26

Mrs, the only issue with that is it's always a double. The Babyjogger City Select can be double or single.

I suppose it depends if you'd hold on to what you have currently for when you need a single again or not.

miserywaterfall · 29/12/2013 16:29

I had heard something about slimming world, but the idea of spending money on it puts me off, I'm a poor student after all, haha. Will see what the midwife says, only 18 days til my appointment... it is dragging by!

HalfPintPickle · 29/12/2013 16:30

If you've had one section, can that solely be grounds for another?

OP posts:
miserywaterfall · 29/12/2013 16:30

Oh Hungry! I didn't realise a referral meant not having to pay the fees! Duh... I am a bit of a noobie Smile

mszeenwithabean · 29/12/2013 16:34

honestly misery I was just completely gluttonous with the wrong types of food, addicted to Danish cinnamon swirls (always two or more) fat chip shop chips and chocolate galore..its unnecessary and uncalled for. not everyone is as gluttonous as me. Blush besides the slimming world way of eating means you can have a never ending amount of veg and salads etc if I had of done that sort of overeating instead of the unhealthy kind I would have been fine.

my bmi is just under the category of 'obese and I am already nearly 4stone off a 'healthy' weight, as hungry says when you are overweight you don't have to necessarily put on as much weight... I have 'stores' as long as I eat my cals for the day and make them healthy baby should grow and I should maintain if not lose (according to my gp)

HungryHorace · 29/12/2013 16:35

I think so, half pint. Are you concerned they'll refuse?

I'll cry if they try to talk me out of one. Hopefully they won't!

HalfPintPickle · 29/12/2013 16:43

I've heard stories of women being 'bullied' into having a natural birth even though they'd prefer a section.

I'm in two minds and will need to speak to the GP/ midwives but if I decide the section is best for me then I'd be devastated if they said no!

Worrying already and am only 5+4 today, oh dear!

HungryHorace · 29/12/2013 16:46

You'll see a Consultant as you had a previous section and they will discuss it with you. I'm not leaving til I have a section booked!

My DSis said she was prepared for an argument, but was granted an ELCS after a previous EMCS without any hassle.

HalfPintPickle · 29/12/2013 16:53

Thank you, that's very reassuring! Hopefully it'll be the same for you and can get a date booked!

Feelingfatty · 29/12/2013 16:57

Oh gosh I'm glad others are aorried about weight gain and I'm not alone!! I'm currently 10 pounds (ish) overweight according to bmi and have to work hard to maintain, gym etc. really hoping to stick to gym this time as I have up last time very early on (similar starting weight) and put on 4 stone Blush do not want that to happen again! Doing well so far, gym not for a week or so because of Xmas and dh being home but haven't been overeating to curb sickness just had to ride the feeling instead!! Good luck ladies. I've heard of ladies of higher bmis doing very well in pregnancy, maintaining those weight and actually being lighter after the baby!

CakenTea · 29/12/2013 17:11

Also really worried about weight gain- started last pregnancy 2.5 stone overweight and put on another 3, took over a year to lose it! But under no illusion that I scoffed far too many pies and was very very lazy! Trying to have a healthier pregnancy this time but so hard to get outside and do something when it's dark and freezing cold!

HalfPintPickle · 29/12/2013 17:22

I'm trying to eat halting and be good walking everywhere but ATM all I want to do is eat cake and burgers and crap and sleep lotsM
I'm trying my best to make the 'right' decisions but its really hard when all you think about is a quarter pounder with cheese! Lol.

I'm in the mind set - new year, new start. Soup and a roll for lunch, healthy-ish dinner and try to have some decent -good for you- snacks around the office!

We'll see! Maybe we can all help each other!
