dressedupnowheretogo · 22/07/2006 23:59

well she was hanging around the midwife led care unit when i went round on the tour it really threw me i assume its the same here no doctor unless needed but obviously if i couldnt cope with out an epidural and emd up on cons led care unit then you gewt doctors in and out all th etime

oh Pink I know the feeling. My plan is to go overboard with nesting tomorrow

Booby I've had a doctor I couldnt understand as well. With the nicest of all possible intentions, it is frustrating.

PinkTulips · 23/07/2006 00:04

very differant system then, i'm under consultant led care but will be attended by mw's during birth, even if i had an epidural that wouldn't make any differance. doctors only called in if major problem occurs.

can see why the language thing would freak you out though... doctor who did my smear test didn't have good english either and didn't explain very well... was bleeding afterwards and freaking out as i hadn't understood whether that was supposed to happen or not. really upset me.

dressedupnowheretogo · 23/07/2006 00:04

scared the bejesus out of me

eeny on a nother tangent awesome lightning and thunder here today youd have lovedit

oooo, wish we'd get a good storm, haven't had one in ages and i'm getting all headachy from the pressure in the air.

eeny, did you locate your missing friend yet?

eenywifemum · 23/07/2006 00:07

ooh I LOVE storms I am so !

There are only MW's where I am giving birth - you get taken to hospital by ambulance if something goes wrong & then you get a consultant.

I was at that coffee morning the other day and this woman was saying 'Oh I wouldnt have been brave enough to only have MW care in my labour' and then proceeded to tell me EVERYTHING that went wrong in her labour and looked at me like I was a moron for ages. I know people cant help it and I dont mind hearing horror stories normally but it seemed she was trying to make a point and it annoyed me a little. After she said all of it she THEN said 'Well I'll stop now so I dont scare you' I was like, 'Gee, thanks!'

eenywifemum · 23/07/2006 00:08

Pink I meant to say I would have really freaked if I was bleeding after a smear!! Poor you!

I did finally get a hold of her by phone - her power is out so she hasnt been on line.

dressedupnowheretogo · 23/07/2006 00:10

i think full understanding is very important at a very important time when you need to know absolutely what is going on

and having people that speak your language is essential unless they have an interpreter who can explain as they go along which she didnt

OP posts:
PinkTulips · 23/07/2006 00:11

at least she's ok.

yeah, found out later that smears during preg are linked to miscarraige which stupid doctor hadn't told me or i wouldn't have had it.... don't even take paracetomol during preg just in case ffs! started getting really bad BHs afterwards too which freaked me out even more as i was only 20 weeks.

eenywifemum · 23/07/2006 00:11

booby I agree!!

I dont have a problem with people being foreign - I AM!! But I dont think its fair if you cant make yourself understood to mess with people's bodies.

PinkTulips · 23/07/2006 00:12

you're dead right booby, i have nothing against foreign doctors but they should be forced to take language courses to make themselves understandable as it's not fair on the patient otherwise

dressedupnowheretogo · 23/07/2006 00:12

eeny glad your friend is ok

women really think its ok to tell youhow bad there births are when you really dont wanna know
im sure you dont do it to people who go in for ops
oh i had a gall bladder removed and xyz happened blah blah blah shut up
grrr

rant over need nore wine

eenywifemum · 23/07/2006 00:12

I was actually told smears were linked to miscarriage by my Dr. - I hadnt realised you were pregnant at the time! What a bitch!

eenywifemum · 23/07/2006 00:13

I am LOOKING at a bottle of wine now and it is driving me mad! I WANT IT!

dressedupnowheretogo · 23/07/2006 00:14

madam seems to be getting more active the longer the day has gone on she keeps wriggling

Yes Alex has been busy tonight too!

He has bruised my RIBS!

PinkTulips · 23/07/2006 00:15

have a chocolate too booby, you deserve one

a good rant can do the world of good i find

meant to say eeny, what a cow that woman was! mw's are highly experianced at dealing with almost any problem that occurs anyway, just coz she had a crappy labour she shouldn't try and freak you out!

PinkTulips · 23/07/2006 00:17

LO keeps trying to dig his head further down in my pelvis... feels likehe's trying to push himself out!

dressedupnowheretogo · 23/07/2006 00:17

OP posts:
eenywifemum · 23/07/2006 00:18

here is a question Pink - do you KNOW when your baby is engaged? I thought it would be obvious but at this NCT group they were all saying it looked like I 'had dropped' and a lot of them were saying they didnt know when their babies had engaged. Is it obvious?

eenywifemum · 23/07/2006 00:19

mmmm ICE sounds NICE

PinkTulips · 23/07/2006 00:19

i keep running out as we only have one ice cube tray.

eenywifemum · 23/07/2006 00:21

I dont get ice because our freezer drops little flaky bits in the ice cube trays and I dont like it

dressedupnowheretogo · 23/07/2006 00:22
