My verrrrrry faint line earlier gives me an edd of 27 august so I'm going to straddle the two threads providing I get a strong bfp tomorrow (which I should do!!)

Happy Christmas everyone!!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Belinky · 03/01/2014 20:27

Hey Newly, I'm a bit nervous about my first docs app, but hearing about Reidy's experience has made me look forward to it a bit Smile

I've had the nausea today, not too bad, just feeling a little sicky and not hungry. And DearDinah, I know what you mean about the pregnancy pong!

topmammy · 03/01/2014 20:31

Welcome Laura ! I'm expecting my first but there are other ladies on here with children already who I'm sure can help to ease your worries Smile

Punky My icky sick feeling is in the back of my throat too, weird unpleasant feeling! Hope I don't get any of that chronic nausea, that won't mix well with a classroom full of children lol.

deardinah I'm looking forward to this pregnancy glow thing too, whenever it decides to make an appearance. Sorry if tmi but gosh I'm definitely needing number 2 more than usual, what is with that?!

nataaaaliee · 03/01/2014 20:37

Topmammy, so am I! Ive heard alot about constipation but deffs not that :o as a nurse I should know these things but eveything is diffrent when its yourself :)

topmammy · 03/01/2014 21:00

We'll probably get the joys of constipation later when we're huge and less active - make sure you eat your fibre rich foods and drink lots of water girls lol!

DearDinah · 03/01/2014 21:10

Does anyone else have horrible skin? My face looks like I have the pox :( I'm a monster!

whiteblossom · 03/01/2014 21:34

dearDinah yup my skin is terrible REALLY bad. thank god for sudacrem and concealer Im keep thinking it'll clear up in day or two but ive been saying that since conception!!

Ive had the constipation now im on to the umm er looser type.. oh is so glam being pregnant!

my DS said today "you need the loo AGAIN mummy" in the middle of a shop Grin

Hubbythecatandme · 03/01/2014 22:27

Yay for our little babies indeed :)
Thanks topmammy, stayed in bed for a bit as I was feeling so dizzy and queasy it was horrible.
Have eaten since and feel fine again!
I am 5 weeks 3 days but so many symptoms one another the other... could be twins.... my gut instincts tell me it's a boy though. I don't know why, I keep catching myself saying "he" and I have no idea why.... I just seem convinced.... I don't mind either way, in fact I think I was 53% more wanting a girl and 47% wanting a boy but it's because all my friends have little girls so I am more used to them than boys hehe!
How is everyone doing?
Anybody having food cravings yet?
Part of me still unsure whether I truly believe in cravings lol (I know it happens really I just seem to think it won't happen to me hehe!).

Tutti · 03/01/2014 22:35

So am laid here .. Wide awake again

The other day I was fretting that I was pregnant ... And now I am fretting that it will continue ... I have realized that I really want this baby ....

Gosh I had forgotten the anxiety ... Wish I could have a scan .. Still not heard from midwife it's obviously gonna be next week now ... Grr!

I have such belly ache still .. Have done 2 other tests all still positive ... And have weed loads today .. Has anybody else got cramps they are v low down ... It's more of a constant ache that feels full ... Does that make sence?

topmammy · 03/01/2014 22:40

Glad you feel a bit better Hubby! My nausea has gone off a bit now too.. I hope. Most people I know who've recently had a baby have had boys so statistically I suppose it's more likely I'll have a girl. I don't mind really either way. Although for some reason I imagine bringing up boys is a bit easier... I'm probably wrong lol.

Food cravings... well I have definitely been wanting to eat a lot of salmon. I liked salmon before but now it seems to have gone up a notch lol. My mum craved haddock when expecting me. How fishy..... ha!

Universalis · 03/01/2014 23:03

I'm wide awake too not remotely sleepy. I look huge seem to have lost my waist in a day. I'm a supply teaching so won't get any maternity pay unless from the state does anyone know anything about claiming that?
I'm so inspired by you tutti I really hope I get to where you are about this baby. I'm so pleased for you I can see it will be fun but I keep thinking of all those stages to go through and feel a bit overwhelmed by it all. One day at a time I suppose. Hope you all have pleasant dreams.

DearDinah · 03/01/2014 23:05

Hi tutti I feel full & have back aches that I get when AF is coming, makes me jittery but I'm hoping it's all normal.
I don't see midwife till the 16th so no idea when I'll get a scan, I go away at the end of the month & really wanted to know everything was as it should be before then

Tutti · 03/01/2014 23:08

Hey universalis .. This is getting regularGrinGrinGrin

I too worry about each stage .. God the thought of weaning , potty training , midnight feeds , teething ... Hellish !

BUT ... I have accepted that this time round I will not fret as much as my first .. I am older ( most bloody definately) and can see the positives as well ...

Tbh I still have concerns but they are concerns that can and will be fixed SmileSmileSmile

Tutti · 03/01/2014 23:09

And my trousers are tight !!!!

Tutti · 03/01/2014 23:12

Deardinah .. That's reassuring .... I am sure I had this with ds too ... But I was fortunate to have an early scan then ... I guess that's the downside of getting a positive between Xmas and new year ... I gotta wait for em to catch up on backlog of calls I guess ... Grr!

Universalis · 03/01/2014 23:22

Potty training arrrrrrragh !!!! Lets focus on the joys hmmmmm first gummy smiles, having a nap on the sofa with snugly baby cuddles, baby giggles, soft soft rabbit fur baby hair to stroke. I think I need a few more to counteract the voice in my head shouting no sleep no sleep no sleep !

Tutti · 03/01/2014 23:32

Lol lol

God yes the times I would be feeding my ds .. At 12 , 2 and then 4 and the times I would look out and there would be no other house lights on ... And then just occasionally my neighbour across the road lights would be on .. And I knew she would be feeding her son ... And then I felt like I wasn't alone Confused

But as you said warm sniffly skin, contented gazes when feeding , those 'wind' smiles when they are dreaming ... Balances it all out ....

And as you now know it really is all just a phase and they do grow up ... At the time it just feels like it will never end ... But it does ... Xxx

Tutti · 03/01/2014 23:33

Hey and I would like to point out we are not sleeping now GrinGrinGrin

Universalis · 03/01/2014 23:38

Yes that's true but my lot all took an awfully long time to sleep through. But they are all pretty wonderful and so unique, it will be amazing to meet another one. Thanks Tutti xx

Tutti · 03/01/2014 23:44

Anytime xxx night night xx

Hubbythecatandme · 04/01/2014 00:13

Tutti, I know what you are saying about the anxiety, I had 2 days of utter panic about labour, really worried, thinking about it all the time etc.
Then after 48 hours I am happy and chilled again... God knows why!
Thanks Topmammy, salmon hey! That's an interesting one! Lots of omega and fatty acid, your baby is going to be happy about that :)
I am eating too much at the moment argh dreading going on the scales, I need to stop this!!!!

Hubbythecatandme · 04/01/2014 00:14

I used to do supply teaching Universalis before having my business full time. I think you will probably be entitled to some income support type benefit with house benefit but I am not sure xx

Justpenny · 04/01/2014 00:18

universalis, im in the middle of my PGCE so don't think i'll get any maternity pay either :( I've had a little google about it and apparently there's maternity pay and maternity allowance. There's an online calculator so maybe you could have a go of that and see what you're eligible for? Because im doing a PGCE and not in full time work (even though the course is full time and as of Monday i'm working in a secondary school Monday-Friday) I don't think I qualify for either, so am going to have to scrimp and save for the next 9 months, and breastfeed to save on formula ;) haha!
How do you find supply teaching? if my littl'un is due at the end of august/beginning of September I imagine i'll be ready to return to work around easter time. Was thinking of maybe doing a bit of part time supply teaching until the September when I will then apply for an NQT post. Is it difficult to find supply work? xx

Universalis · 04/01/2014 00:48

Thanks hubby pretty sure I won't be eligible for income or housing support, that's ok though I'm lucky in that area. justpenny I love supply but don't work every day as im at home with my older children (school runs, school trips, shopping, cooking etc) I think there's a lot of work in London but obviously depends where you're based and how far you are willing to travel. As long as you're ok on the crowd control front supply is a lot of fun you meet so many children and its really interesting seeing different schools. The staff rooms can be a little daunting you're never sure if you're sitting in someone's chair or using a special mug. Childcare wise what were you thinking?

Justpenny · 04/01/2014 01:02

Im based in Liverpool and according to some of the teachers I work with supply is quite easy to find here. I'm an MFL teacher (or will be!) so don't know if that makes a difference? My mum and my sister both work part time, one in the morning, one in the afternoon, so they could possibly help with childcare, or my DP thinks his mum (who is recently retired) would be more than willing to help. When I had my DS 8 years ago I was a single parent and working for Barclays bank so got childcare vouchers and tax credits so it was easily affordable and my son went to a private nursery (which he loved) from about 5 months old. I don't think im going to be so lucky money wise this time round, according to my calculations I'd be better off as a single parent again which seems a bit mad! Im hopin i'll win the lottery between now and then tho, so I can be a stay at home mum/lady of leisure! I worked throughout my first pregnancy and was back at work 5 months later, and since then have either worked full time or been a full time (mature) student so feel like I've never really had the time to just be a mum. I wish I had that luxury this time round now that i'm older and a lot less energetic!

Universalis · 04/01/2014 01:10

I know it is a real luxury, I was a stay at home mum for 13 yrs never felt like a lady of leisure but really enjoyed it and looking back I can see how much we've all benefited from it. However I do feel a little sad thinking about not going back this time and my age makes me want to go back more in some ways but I don't suppose I will at least not for a few years. Your family sounds very supportive so that will be a great help. Will your son be delighted with your news?
