PinkWitch803 · 31/12/2013 22:37

Hello Ladies. I have been AWOL from here for a while as I was struggling to keep up, then my beautiful baby boy arrived ten days early on 16 Dec. i had my home water birth and it was amazing, despite the latent phase being so very very painful.

Since then life has been a whirlwind and any time I get to myself I am under instruction to sleep. I would get told off for not sleeping now but wanted to wish you all a very happy new year and thank you for being there for my pregnancy. I survived because of your support and mumsnet.

Here is to wishing you a cuddly time with your newborns, or a last tummy wiggle time before you get to meet your magical creations.

SavannahAndBaby · 01/01/2014 01:39

stom I am having sharp pains in my cervix tonight too along with strong BH and waves of back ache to top it all off.... I am pulling my hair out sitting around everyday thinking about labour..... Just want to meet this little ball of love x

mumoftwoboysS · 01/01/2014 06:29

Happy New Year to those of you waiting and to those with lovely new babies!

mogz so agree with you there- feeding seems to take up all my time then with trying to squeeze in a nap, spend some time with the other kids and bumf on the odd load of washing, I find having visitors stressful and not really feeling up to it. I know they mean well tho!...

Sending contracting vibes to those waiting!

Many congrats better!

mumoftwoboysS · 01/01/2014 06:30

Bumf? Meant 'bung'

SavannahAndBaby · 01/01/2014 08:55

Well I'm past my due date and had a few niggly back pains yesturday and loads of BH.... Then about 2am this morning I started having cramp and back ache that hurt ALOT! It was irregular so I thought nothing of it... Thought it might of just been baby's position ect... But then I kept waking up every 15 mins with this pains in my belly and hips and lower back... Then every 5-10 mins... I havnt really slept and been in agony to the point the adrenalin has given me the shakes and I feel sick...I kept trying a few times to have a poo coz it felt like trapped wind in my back at first but that did no good... Then just now I went to try again and as I wiped I noticed a big blob of see-through thick slime with brown streaks in it... Could this be the plug? I'm having another contraction right now and it is killing me.... Could today be the day? What should I do??? X

PinkWitch803 · 01/01/2014 09:29

savannah it sounds like your plug and that things are happening. Good luck.

Alyssa1978 · 01/01/2014 11:33

savannah start timing Hun sounds like labour to me. Xxx

hotcrossbun83 · 01/01/2014 15:59

Congrats pink and better!

Need advice from those bottle feeding... I'm back on bottles to give nipples a break, but ds will drink whatever I offer, up to 150ml per feed (7 feeds per day). The guides say feed on demand and expect to throw away milk but don't tackle what to do if they guzzle everything. Using newborn teat and taking lots of wind breaks. Sometimes he'll settle after 100ml but rarely and he roots, sucks hand and cries until he gets more. His weight gain is on the low side of ok but I don't want to over feed him and set up future problems. It's the same whether he's drinking expressed milk or formula.

Stom91 · 01/01/2014 16:36

No advice hot cross hope someone comes along soon

Just want to say. OMG I'm getting induced tomorrow got to be at the hospital at 730am! I am bricking it.

The fact that I could have gone into labour anytime in the last few months hasn't phased me. But the fact that it's happening tomorrow regardless is scaring the Crap out of me.
Do you think it's worth asking for a laxitive first? As I'm not at regular as usual :/

hotcrossbun83 · 01/01/2014 17:01

Good luck stom. It's scary for everyone. When my waters broke I started shaking and when DH asked why I had to explain that while I knew I was pregnant and had prepared everything for baby I hadn't entirely realised the birth was actually going to happen. I got away with blaming it on being early when we had expected baby to be late, but actually I think I would have been the same overdue.

I wouldn't worry about the clear out, I didn't have one beforehand and didn't seem to make any difference. There was a moment during pushing when midwife changed the mat and I suspect that was it but they did it very swiftly and I'm not bringing it up with DH to find out what he saw! He was far too distracted with other things, amazing how blasé they become to the gory stuff when they see what you are going through. But then again if they'll give you one, why not!

Alyssa1978 · 01/01/2014 17:43

hot how old and are you using formula? Xx

hotcrossbun83 · 01/01/2014 17:56

3 weeks today, 3.5kgs at last weigh in (3.4 at birth) and mainly formula bit of expressed when I can manage it. About 2/3rd of feed is formula I would say. Thanks!

Stom91 · 01/01/2014 18:28

Thanks hotcross
I guess because I know it's going to happen tomorrow I have time to think and get nervous so tryin my best to take my mind off it.
I really hope I get my pool birth.
Ahh I'm going to be a mum!!

Mogz · 01/01/2014 19:25

hot he could be having a growth spurt, happens at about 3 weeks apparantly, and so will be wanting to drink everything you offer. I'm mix feeding Genevieve and sometimes she will finish an 80ml bottle and then scream the house down until I get her another, but at other times she'll have 20 or 30ml then fall sound asleep. I figure her tummy knows how much it needs at any one time and I'm just going with it.

Mogz · 01/01/2014 19:26

Best of luck Stom I hope it's an easy sneezy one for you!

Alyssa1978 · 01/01/2014 20:11

hot a formula fed 3 week old would generally drink 4 ounces (120ml) approx 5 times a day.

My 4 week old has just gone to 4kg and he should be on 5 ounces (150 ml) but will only drink around 4 ounces and goes approx 4 hours until his next one but if I give him breast milk he will go a lot less and seems less satisfied.

I agree with mogz it sounds like your lo is having a growth spurt and is catching up on some weight. Lleyton did the same about a week ago and was eating all the time.

I would feed him when he's hungry and he will settle when he's full and if it continues maybe talk to your hv about a hungry baby formula.
I still now have to give ds3 another couple ounces not long after his bottle as he's still not settled and once he's had enough, he sleeps.
I do make sure I try to wake him to finish his feed as I've found he sleeps longer and doesn't wake as much for more.

Good luck for tomorrow stom xx

froubylou · 01/01/2014 20:44

Good luck stom it's very exciting isn't it.

And congratulations to anyone I've missed. Been so busy I am behind on you all.

Am currently at the end of a tough day with baby. We are ebf and for the last week or so we were able to get into an almost routine. Fed for about 20 mins each side every 2.5 hours. Going down in crib at night nicely etc. Today he has fed constantly since 8am. Nipples suffering and I am exhausted. We did have this one day last week too. Main issue is my poor nipples and the fact that I will get loads of milk for a few days which upsets him as he can't cope with the let down.

Hoping he will go down soon for a few hours.

Alyssa1978 · 01/01/2014 21:21

Is anyone else still waiting for baby?
