kitty .. She is a smasher. So much hair! I have bald babies.

when .. We are also the house of illness right now too. Ds3 has throat infection, viral of course so they can't give us anything to speed up recovery . He is waking more than a newborn. Sat on my. Knee now watching Tv, won't let me put him down. I hope you are all on the mend now?

weev.. how are you getting on?

thingy .. Your DH sounds ace. I do love a man who can let their guard down sometimes! DH cried at the births. I was too off my head on drugs to emote.

Alexandra6 · 20/12/2013 11:49

Hello everyone and massive congrats to wee and winkle!! I've missed some exciting news this week!

I've been in a bit of a haze since having our lovely little girl! I don't think I updated on my birth story - my waters broke at 2am on my induction day (week 42) but I then dilated slowly all day and they said I was only 3cm at 4pm so they were going to induce me on the drip and I agreed to an epidural. However, due to a busy ward, I didn't get them until 1am and they didn't check my dilation again. They said I had approx 9 hours on drip and DH lay on towels on the floor and tried to get some rest. It got a bit scary after that as her heart rate kept dropping with each contraction so at 3am they were talking about emergency c section. I kept saying I felt pressure down there even with the epidural. As they were about to make a decision, they took a look and I was fully dilated with her head right there! DH jumped up as he heard the doctor say I had a couple of contractions to push her out in! Three contractions later and pushing like crazy and she was out and in my arms!

We're getting on well and she's amazing Smile I'm still struggling with the nights though - she can be unsettled for hours! Last night she had her first proper bath and loved it, then fell asleep at 10pm but was up again at 2am and didn't really settle after that - cried and fussed a bit, fed, was sick. I'd love to know if anyone has any tips for night time or do I just ride it out and try and sleep during the day?

kittykatsforever · 20/12/2013 12:39

Great story Alex, I'm glad you got your natural birth! I can't believe how long they don't check you sometimes!! 3 pushes is very good work though, did you find the epidural ok??
I used a book called the sensational baby sleep plan by Alison Scott wright as with dd1 I was clueless and she had horrendous colic, it basically implements a feeding plan of every 3 hours in the day from the start of one til next one so like 7,10,1 etc then from 7 at night that's bedtime so you do a totally different method where you don't wake them and keep everything dark etc it's very easy reading and following and both mine have slept through 7-7 from 11 and 12 weeks which for breast fed is early! You might think fluke but all my friends used it and are the same and I'd you start from birth there's no crying involved at all like sleep training so that's great In my opinion, that would be my tip anyway it's my bible

WhenSheWasBadSheWasExhausted · 21/12/2013 07:30

Woo hoo big high five for winkle on that lovely string heartbeat. So pleased for you.

Hi ted we are still a bit poorly but just seem to have a cough now. I noticed you on a thread in chat about this bug. I was seriously alarmed that most people have had it for 2+ weeks, I'm hoping we will all be well for Xmas.

fatas good to see you back.

alex great birth story, it sounds like a pretty good birth to me. No real advice on night wakings. Newborns just wake up a lot, it is hard when they are unsettled, mine woke up loads but just wanted to feed all the time.
It does get better with time.

tedmundo · 21/12/2013 13:52

Yup when, it is a bugger of a virus this one. He is slightly better today. Just full of catarrah which catches in his throat when he coughs and makes him puke up a lot. The older ones seem ok if the current noise levels are anything to go by.

alex .. TiVo anything that catches your fancy and watch tv while you feed and try to settle her. I watched any amount of pap whilst ds3 was tiny and got addicted to the mindy show! I just stayed downstairs with him where food and drinks were in easy reach and kipped on the sofa when I could. Better than in and out of bed umpteen times.

tedmundo · 21/12/2013 13:54

Disclaimer .. I did not sleep with him on the sofa, he was in the Moses next to me!

Alexandra6 · 23/12/2013 09:19

Thanks for the tips, I'm starting to worry it could be reflux - has anyone else had any experience of that? She cried for around four hours last night, poor little sweetheart, luckily she then slept for 6 hours straight so got some sleep but am worried about the marathon crying session. Do babies just cry like that sometimes or would it mean reflux problems? I did hope it was just a wind?! She seemed to be in pain Sad

kittykatsforever · 23/12/2013 12:37

If it's the same time at night every night it could be colic, does she curl her legs up and look like she's in pain? I have quite a few remides if that's the case although as hard as it is it does vanish at 3 months so there's light at the end of the tunnel
My friends little one had reflux and I know it's horrible, it tends to be when they fuss with every feed like they are in pain, I know that they sleep better on their tummys as do colic babies but you may not want to go down this route, I know it scares people but I invested in a sleep matt monitor as I felt crying and unhappiness seemed worse for her at that point in time. Funnily enough though in the book I suggested she is one of leading experts in reflux I think and there's a big section devoted to it with symptoms and remides
Thanks It's hard if you get a newborn with troubles as it's hard to let them know it will be ok and help them

Thingymajigs · 24/12/2013 07:08

alex, my eldest had reflux so I can fully sympathise with the stress it puts you under. It's so hard having to listen to them cry and not be able to do anything about it. My son had other issues which weren't discovered until he was 8 which might have contributed to the crying and sleeplessness but I do think it was mainly colic/reflux in the early months. I would trust your instincts and go to your GP/HV if it would help. I took my son and was fobbed off with "well, that's what babies do." But if it seems excessive you should push for a medical opinion. It does take a while for their little tummies to adjust but hopefully it won't be long. Make sure you ask for help from relatives, it's really important that you get breaks when you're coping with a restless baby. Hope she feels better soon. x
Happy Christmas everyone! Hope you all have a great time with new babies and growing bumps. I'm off for my 34 week appointment today. It is going so fast!

RedRobin1 · 24/12/2013 07:57

Just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas with the bumps and babies and lots more to come in the New Year Smile

38 weeks today and praying for a respite from cervix head butts. Also feeling massive and heavy and not wanting to do much.

twinks how you doing?

thingy 34 weeks! That's gone so quick - hope you keeping well

kitty thanks for the sleep tips - I will have a google for Alison and have a read Smile

Hope she passes the reflux/colic stage soon alex sorry no advice to offer but let us know how she gets on. Hope you get some rest too

WhenSheWasBadSheWasExhausted · 24/12/2013 11:45

alex so sorry your daughter is unsettled, dd had colic and was generally very unsettled (Velcro baby). It is so much hard work I really feel for you.

Try and get some answers from a health visitor. We tried infacol and colief but nothing helped. It was classic colic with her pulling her knees up and it disappeared at 3 months. Best of luck with it.

red hope the headbutts stop soon, it could be any day now for you. Very exciting. Have a great Xmas and get everyone running round after you, you should only get up if you need to pee every 30 minutes or so

thingy hope you are feeling good.

twinkle have a great Xmas, hope you don't have too much fatigue / morning sickness but I bet you won't care if you do you'll just be happy to be pregnant. I love typing that you are pregnant, so happy for you.

ted hope your Bruce is better for Xmas, mine are just starting to get better, dd is fine except the cough. Ds (8 weeks tomorrow) has been throwing up loads of milk and mucus. I took him to the health visitor as I was concerned. He just smiled at her and looked thoroughly delighted with life. He's obviously not too sick.

kitty I might have to have a look at that book, I think I am going to have an easier time of it sleep wise with ds. Dd was and continues to be a complete nightmare where sleep is concerned.

fatas and wee have a good Xmas

Ok ladies, have a good one. The diet starts in the new year but right now I'm going to enjoy Xmas making a pig of myself

BlearyeyedLol · 24/12/2013 12:00

Have a lovely Xmas all of you!!!!
Twinks how u doing? When is your next scan???

twinklestar2 · 24/12/2013 17:02

Merry Christmas everyone! Have a fab day with your families.

I don't know what to think really! I've had the odd dry retching, sore boobs and constant weeing, off my food, mild nausea etc but that's it! No real symptoms! I want to be sick so I know everything's ok! Panicked the other day and did another digi Xmas Blush. Still said 3+ weeks.

Can anyone else remember how they felt at 7.5 weeks?

BlearyeyedLol · 24/12/2013 19:22

Twinks I had hardly any symptoms at this point. Just felt very hungry and tired. And also had itchy boobs!
When is your next scan?

RedRobin1 · 24/12/2013 20:21

twinkle everything you have described sounds about right for 7.5 weeks!

When is your next scan? You never stop worrying through out the pregnancy but for now you are Pregnant Smile and you are going to have a wonderful Christmas... (apart from the dry retching and nausea Wink )

OP posts:
kittykatsforever · 24/12/2013 21:06

Ha ha twinks you just mentioned all the pregnancy symptoms then said no real symptoms Wink
Paranoia is the main one btw!!
You sound totally normal, I only had tingly boobs a few times with dd1 nothing else at all then had slight nausea and weeing a lot til around 9 wks with dd2, if your not a sicky person it's really something to be thankful for, honestly, just ask red we barely heard from her as she was so sick and in the end even though you long for a child it makes you so miserable. You have seen your little one thriving, try to enjoy this wonderful Xmas knowing it and savouring it xx

twinklestar2 · 25/12/2013 12:26

Thx girls. I'm nota pukey person in general so maybe that's why im not puking? Only puked 3 times in my whole life from drinking and I've been drinking for 18 years! I know i should try and enjoy not being sick hey!

kitty - i panic when i feel a symptom and panic when i don't!! Im driving my husband crazy!

lol and red - haven't booked in next scan yet, will call docs after Xmas.

i am happy girls! This is the best Xmas ever and next one will be even better! Keep imagining what it will be like with a 4 month old!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasExhausted · 26/12/2013 23:39

twinkle I love your post, I've hardly had any symptoms apart from - dry retching, sore boobs and constant weeing, off my food, mild nausea etc
That's loads of pregnancy symptoms Grin

I'm going to say this in advance of the event. At some point your pregnancy symptoms will disappear for no reason. It will be too soon for them to vanish but they will, I think it happened to loads of us at 9 weeks - try not to panic as you will soon be feeling like shit again.

I'd forgotten how worrying pregnancy is, good luck keeping the stress levels down. Xmas with a 4 month old will be magical, they are sooooo cute at that age.

twinklestar2 · 27/12/2013 10:54

Thanks when x

I had to have another scan this morning at 7w 5d. I had dark red bleeding when I wiped last night so went to A&E who said everything seemed fine but they wanted me to have an early scan this morning. All fine, thank god. I cried so much with relief. Hardly slept with the worry.

RedRobin1 · 27/12/2013 15:10

twinkle big hugs. The sight of blood is terrifying and can't imagine what you went through. But so so. So relieved to hear everything's fine.

If it helps my SIL had on and off bleeding through her whole pregnancy and her 10month old son is now running around the house.

OP posts:
twinklestar2 · 27/12/2013 15:16

Thx red. With the light symptoms and then the blood I thought it was all over. Plus it's OHs bday today, I was so scared I was going to ruin his bday for him.

So scary and nervy this pregnancy malarkey!

Thingymajigs · 27/12/2013 15:22

That's a relief winkle. That must have been awful. I had brown blood from 13-16 weeks which was thought to be a hematoma clearing away from implantation. So hopefully that's all thats going on with you too. Hope that's the last of your scares. x
How are you doing red, are you all ready? Is baby engaged yet?
I had my 34 week check on Christmas Eve and everything is going great. Baby is measuring spot on but still not engaged. I'm getting twitchy now about getting everything ready so we went shopping yesterday for household and baby items to prepare. Can't believe I braved the sales, especially the Ikea one today. I must be mad.
How was everyone's Christmas?

RedRobin1 · 27/12/2013 15:35

Christmas was lovely and was waited on hand and foot which was nice for a change. Although was shattered when the day ended and relieved that baby didn't make an appearance on Xmas day Smile

thingy this little mite engaged at 32 weeks and has been a PITA (quite literally!) The pressure on the cervix has been intense since then however no sign of labour yet.

38+3 and waiting patiently.

OP posts:
RedRobin1 · 27/12/2013 15:35

Did you get anything nice in the ikea sales?

OP posts:
Thingymajigs · 27/12/2013 16:16

It could be any day then. Smile I'm so excited for you. I guess your bag is packed and everything is ready. I hate that stage where you are just left waiting and checking for labour signs every 2 minutes. I'm not expecting baby to engage until labour because my tummy muscles are useless after 2 previous pregnancies but I wish he would so I'd get a bit more warning.
I got lots of bits for the nursery to go with our woodland theme and a Billy bookcase for ds2 to display all of his Lego creations that he got for Christmas. Nesting is well and truly kicking in now.
