Agreed re timing. Too early or too late is disastrous - hence i just got M out and put him in the sling. He was still wide awake and much longer and he'd be over tired and a nightmare.

So odd that by night I put him down wide awake and leave him, yet by day he's having none of it?!

janey1234 · 21/01/2014 13:13

Cross post cavort. Yes I'm going to keep trying... Although going away in Thursday - Sun to see my nan, who has has another stroke Sad - so efforts might have to be postponed until next week.

If I'm honest sometimes it's quite nice to have the excuse of being forced to sit on the sofa with a baby attached to you in a sling - am so lazy!

Purplemonster · 21/01/2014 16:44

Sitting in my car outside my house because it's absolutely pissing it down and I don't think I can get the sleeping baby out if the car, through the downpour and into the house without waking her up and she doesn't do enough napping in the day and we're out tonight so I don't want her overtired. Glamorous way to spend my birthday huh. At least I have wireless Grin

janey1234 · 21/01/2014 17:25

Happy birthday purple!!
Thanks

Hope you have lots of Wine later x

BraveLilBear · 21/01/2014 17:38

Happy birthday Purple! Hope you have a fab night :)

Sorry about your nan Janey hope your visit goes well.

I went and got some weetabix for H's breakfast earlier. Chose it because it's so much cheaper than baby porridge and the health visitor recommended it as a good breakfast.

Had a huge shock tho - went to get the Asda own brand and just checked the sugar/salt content. Was shocked that the asda own brand had double the sugar and salt as Weetabix. So splashed out on the brand label.

can you tell my mat pay has run out?

Purplemonster · 21/01/2014 17:59

Thanks, I'm definitely not offering to drive tonight Wine I don't like 32 though, it sounds old.

Sorry about your Nan Janey, hope she's doing ok.

Bear - it is amazing how much sugar and salt is in stuff when you check isn't it, L has weetabix quite often too. She always pulls a funny face for the first few spoons though.

Alexandra6 · 21/01/2014 18:10

Ok purple I just turned 32 a couple of weeks ago...who you calling old? Grin Happy birthday!

S has wind trapped already eek! Feel like my life has become a battle against the forces!

HazleNutt · 21/01/2014 18:26

Would you stop all this talk about 32nd birthdays? I don't even remember mine Grin

MotherOfCleo · 21/01/2014 19:01

Happy birthday purple!! Grin Grin Grin

I'm lucky at the moment and H will just drift off if put in his crib when he is sleepy. I try to put him in his carrycot during the day anyway, just with toys above him so he is used to being in their, if he tired he will fall asleep.

janey1234 · 21/01/2014 19:03

Shut it!! I'm 40 this year Confused Shock Angry

Alexandra6 · 21/01/2014 20:03
Grin

mother how long's he been doing that for? Being able to drift off on his own I mean.

Cavort · 21/01/2014 21:01

Alex this website - ISIS online is a research-based collaboration between Durham University Parent-Infant Sleep Lab, La Leche League, NCT, and UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative, so it is completely independent and doesn't have any techniques/agendas to sell or endorse. The whole site is interesting and well worth a look, but if you're thinking of trying to get S to self-settle it you might want to have a read of sleep training.

It's so interesting to know what other babies are doing but it's also torture when you hear about other babies settling themselves and sleeping beautifully when yours refuses to do it! I have spent many an hour worrying about E's 'sleep problems' and I have now concluded that her only 'problem' is that she is a completely normal healthy baby. Smile

Happy Birthday Purple! I hope you have a Wine in your hand right about now!

And I hope your Nan is ok Janey. If it's happened before then she's obviously a fighter Smile

BlearyeyedLol · 21/01/2014 21:35

Yeah and I'm 40 and a few days!!! When I was 32 I was married to another man!!!
Sorry about your nan janey.
L is constipated and has not pooed since Friday Confused. I'm getting worried. Any suggestions? She is doing some really stinky farts as well bless her. Will try giving her some water tomorrow. Is that a good idea?

Cavort · 21/01/2014 21:58

Is she on solids yet Lol? If she is then yes, plenty of water. If she is still EBF then maybe ring NHS direct and see what they suggest? If you have just started weaning then I think it's very normal - E was constipated for the first few weeks and then it settled down to about 4 poos a day.

OP posts:
janey1234 · 21/01/2014 22:02

If weaning might be worth trying squeezing a bit of orange juice and mixing it with boiled cooled water - worked for us with disastrous consequences for my washing machine

janey1234 · 21/01/2014 22:03

Oh and if EBF I wouldn't worry yet. Miles went 9 days once and NHS direct weren't concerned in the slightest when I spoke to them on day 8....

Purplemonster · 21/01/2014 22:22

Rolling in, half a bottle of wine later...

L mostly gets fed to sleep, as long as she sleeps I don't much worry about how it happens, maybe I should?

They say you're only as old as you feel so I must be 82 Grin

Poor L, don't know what to suggest for constipation but That must be horrid, i hope the poor little mite feels better soon.

BlearyeyedLol · 21/01/2014 23:14

Well she had porridge for the first time yesterday and some avocado today - these have been the first attempt at solids. I will try carrot tomorrow. How often should I offer water? Janey I like the idea of the OJ too. Will try that as well.
Weigh in clinic tomorrow so let's see what HV says!
Purple if she sleeps then take it while you can in my opinion!!!

MotherOfCleo · 21/01/2014 23:26

Formula poos are bad but ai've heard weaning poos are worse.....thats going to be one hell of a poo! Confused

alex, he's been doing it since very early on, even in the hospital he would lay in the crib watching me then gradually drift off to sleep. He is very nosy so is happy to just watch/listen to whats going on then he'll drift off when he gets bored.

MotherOfCleo · 21/01/2014 23:28

should say though alex, he only really self settles during the day and when we put him to bed....at night his sleep can be just as shit an annoying as any babies.

HazleNutt · 22/01/2014 07:14

lol when feeding, I offer water after every few spoonfuls.

And the first poos after weaning were indeed quite bad and stinky, but now he's making nice compact ones that you can basically just remove and that's it, no more liquid poop all over the butt. Quite a pleasant side effect.

Quodlibet · 22/01/2014 10:47

We had our second night of sleeping through with only one wake up - 8.45-5am today with a feed at about 1am. I think her metabolism has changed as she's pooing less, although still feeding loads in the daytime.

W is quite good at self-settling currently - not all the time, but often if I put her down in her cot and she is tired but not asleep she will drift off. The cosleeper helps I think as if she's wiggling about I can put my hand on her tummy and that sometimes makes her settle. She needs to know I am there, there's no chance of her sleeping if she can't see me but she doesn't need to be physically on me (though she still likes that best!). She nods off v easily in her pram, but unless she's out for the count before we put her in it she doesn't really nap in the Moses basket during the day any more. I'm hoping some of this willingness to sleep sticks around now she is coming out of the sleepy newborn phase b

Purplemonster · 22/01/2014 11:07

So, unexpected crappy side effect of having a baby that no one warned you about 342 - it appears I can no longer drink wine Shock shared a bottle with Mum over dinner last night, didn't even get mildly tipsy but have been up half the night with raging stomach cramps and feeling sick. We all ate the same main so it's not the food Sad

HazleNutt · 22/01/2014 11:40

Sure it's wine and not a bug or food poisoning? I have gotten food poisoning from eating same food than other people (who were fine) before - just managed to find the only dodgy piece.
