You other mothers can't deny,
When a girl walks in with an ever expanding waist
And a round thing in your face
You....'d better give her some cake....

etc, etc,

New thread! Enjoy!

notoneforselfies · 02/12/2013 10:18

Ooh glad you said that Lovesto - I just bought one of them from eBay for a fiver!

marzipanned · 02/12/2013 10:24

Thanks Littleen :) Feel much better after a fantastic Thanksgiving dinner with lots of lovely people, none of whom minded about burnt pie crust!

Ooh I wish I had asked you lot before buying a pillow. Got a dream genii which I agree isn't really big enough to be effective. Hopefully it'll come into its own for bf...if not, the cat loves it :)

I'm not suffering from aches and pains at night but just weird inexplicable bouts of insomnia lasting about two hours. Not so bad.

notone you lucky thing, MLU sounds absolutely amazing.

LovesToBake · 02/12/2013 10:32

notone that is a bargain! You won't be disappointed. It also has the added benefit that you can (if required) get up and walk around while bf and looking a bit like an ice cream seller at the theatre. I once answered the door to the postman mid-bf with DS on the cushion strapped around my waist.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 02/12/2013 11:37

Haha, another BF pillow fan here. Use it between legs and to support bump when I'm trying to sleep and it is a lifesaver when BFing, particularly in bed in the wee hours!

notone for a lower bump/ back support, I managed to buy a one-size fits all waist support thing in Poundworld, which, whilst slightly annoying and restrictive, works more effectively (and restricts movement less) than the hideously uncomfortable support belt thing the physio gave me for my SPD when I was expecting DS1. Worth a try, and at £1, you're not throwing good money after bad if it doesn't work for you.

Just back from my WC jab. I'm sick of being a pincushion - GTT, flu jab, blood tests and now the WC jab have all been in the space of a couple of weeks. The nurse who did it today spent so long faffing about - she could only view my medical records back to 1998 so was worried about giving me the jab in case I'd had it as a child Hmm so had to go and find someone else in the surgery to ask. Then she came back, then disappeared again to fetch the vaccine. Then when she came back with it, realised she didn't have any needles so went off in search of one! Confused I was in there a good 15 minutes for what should have been a 2 minute in and out job. Whilst doing it, she moaned endlessly about MWs not doing the vaccinations themselves but insisting the nurses do it. I was just sitting there thinking 'Get over it, and get on with it woman, it's your job!'

SugarMiceInTheRain · 02/12/2013 11:37

Sorry for the mini-rant. Pregnancy is making me pretty impatient! Blush

Littleen · 02/12/2013 12:56

Sugar can see where you're coming from, I've had all the pregnancy tests and also tons of tests about my new medication to see how my body responds to it! I don't normally care about needles, but bored of it now. Got more coming this friday and another glucose test next week ><

I am feeling hmm...ambivalent today. Sorting out things for our new flat - we can move in Thursday at 3! So that's awesome, only been delayed by 4 days!

The bad news is that we won't have internet up and running until January sometime. For someone who spends their day playing world of warcraft/hearthstone, watching all tv online and spend hours on here, that's going to be very, very boring! Going to look into those temporary internet thingies, but not had good experience with them in the past.

Anyone got suggestions what I and my other half can do to pass the time? :P I'll be taking up my painting again, and reading, but can't do that all day every day either!

Confused
pettyprudence · 02/12/2013 13:14

I found my old wedge pillow from last pg yesterday - its supposed to support your back when sitting but I find it slides under my bump nicely to give some support when sleeping on my side. Luckily I have always mostly been a side sleeper but I do miss the option of lying on back/front if I want to! Rolling over in the night is a pita due to posterior pelvic pain. I do remember last time that bed became a place of torture in the final 6 weeks or so and I had a about 10 various cushions/pillows!

I have my 28 week (late) appointment with mw this week and hoping to actually meet her! I have had lots of other appointments but mw appointments seem few and far between 2nd pg!

Right, back to getting the dinning room ready for christmas...

winterflowers · 02/12/2013 13:28

Thanks for the bf pillow tip lovesto ! I'd been meaning to ask for recommendations for ages. For now I am just sleeping in a pillow fort - probs a good thing I'm on my own as there'd be no room in the bed for an OH. I'm supe r comfy though Grin

notone your mlu sounds like the dream. I really need to get in touch with my new hospital and find out what it's like. Can't imagine that swanky tho!

I'm a bit confused about why your nurse needed to know your childhood vaccines sugarmice. Surely we've all had them before and the idea is to boost them. She sounds a bit of a lost cause anyway. And I do hope you get a bit of a break from being a pincushion for a while.

littleen hav r you tried a dongle? Not a personal recommendation but my friend used hers a lot and raved about it. Definitely Jan is too far to last without internet at home!

marzipanned · 02/12/2013 13:43

Sugar I feel your pin cushion pain, I actually refused the Down's screening because I couldn't face having yet more blood drawn. Think it was a couple of weeks after I'd been in hospital for an IV and I was still scarred by that experience!

Littleen DH and I never bothered getting internet in our first flat and we used dongles occasionally. Expensive but reasonably fast. Or could you look at adding an unlimited data package to your mobile? (I have NO idea how much that would cost - am a complete luddite.) Or become well acquainted with the owner of a nearby internet cafe?! If such things still exist outside big cities..

Petty your zeal for decorating is amazing! What are you doing to the dining room? Am waiting VERY impatiently for our sitting room to be recarpeted so I can put the tree up..

misskatamari · 02/12/2013 14:23

Your MLU sounds amazing notone! Lovely and relaxing for a nice calm birth hopefully! Smile

Littleen - god no internet sounds like a nightmare. Do you like any sort of crafting? Crochet is a really easy one once you get the hang of it and it's great for making cute baby blankets and toys.

The brest friend looks awesome! I'm gonna do some eBay trawling and hopefully find a bargain too!

Oh my god I think we can get back in the house tonight! Will have to sleep at the hotel still as it needs lots of sorting still but tomorrow night I should be back in my own bed Grin which to be fair isn't as nice and comfy as the bed here, but I will have access to a kitchen and the cats so i can't wait!!!

misskatamari · 02/12/2013 14:28

Oh my god - does anyone else need to wee ALL THE TIME when they are standing/walking? I'm not too bad when I'm sitting down but as soon as I go anywhere I just need to wee constantly. Then bugger all comes out and I just need it again. Think it must be uterus pressing on my bladder but it's bloody annoying. Was actually painful before at the bottom of my bump/Pubic bone - fine now I'm
sitting tho thank god!

Sassy20 · 02/12/2013 14:36

MissKat - I'm the same - it drives me mad particularly the fact it's a tiny amount when I do go!

EeyoreIsh · 02/12/2013 15:18

missk that is great news about the house, I hope it all looks amazing.

I'm going to have to investigate about pillows, clearly! so far I'm just using lots of normal pillows (I've tested each one for its optimal location Grin).

Might try for another nap now. my boss agreed to let me do reduced hours today given my sore ribs. I feel like such a wuss when everyone is really busy.

sunflowered · 02/12/2013 15:35

misskat - YES!! It's driving dh mad - while I'm sitting down it all feels fine so I'll tell him I definitely don't need to go, hang around for ages chatting/watching tv/etc then as soon as we need to get up and go anywhere it takes about 3 wee stops before I can leave. To be fair, given the amount we have to put up with growing the actual bumps, it's not such a big inconvenience for him really.

Thanks for the zantac advice last week - one day in (just the sainsburys off the shelf version) and a single pill this morning has done the job. Hope this relief lasts for a few days at least - was at breaking point yesterday morning.

24 days left at work - 12 before and 12 after xmas (the 12 after I'm obvs going to be completely dedicated and not just eating cake with whoever i can distract...) Have had some good applicants for my job which I was surprised about - just need to hope one of them is as good in person as on paper Smile

gnittinggnome · 02/12/2013 15:35

Back from a surprisingly ok weekend at the ILs. The "surprise" baby shower was not as wince-inducing as I had imagined it would be, and MIL had gone to a huge effort to put together a spread I could eat 80% of, which was super-kind of her. The goodies haul was small, but perfectly formed - cute animal print muslins, a Gro-Egg room thermometer, Mr Men board books, some sleep suits and some utterly awesome baby kit from babymoos (www.babymoos.com/) plus some second-hand stuff from SIL. FIL wasn't too ghastly, although sitting next to him when he's eating anything will still turn my stomach, but overall, I'm counting it as a win!

Diabetes clinic had both a reprieve from meds (three too-high readings, but the rest were bang on, so if I don't get any more high readings I'll be meds-free. I don't care about the meds so much, but needing them brings on a whole different, more intervention-intensive care approach, so I'd rather avoid them if possible) and a nice registrar who took me through the current care-approach as if I was an adult, who'd done research, and would understand the difference between risks and outcomes and such like. Plus! It turns out the Marks and Spencer Mini Parmesan and Roasted Onion Biscuits, whilst ensuring a quick death from clogged arteries, are diabetes-ok! So I get to pig out a little after all.

Going to have a second viewing of the little house I looked at on Friday this evening, with DH, so you never know. This may be a 100% positive post.

sunflowered · 02/12/2013 15:55

Oh - and congrats on the house news misskat, and the diabetes, house and baby shower front gnitting. That must count for some (sugar free) Cake to celebrate Smile

Littleen · 02/12/2013 17:08

thanks for the suggestions!
winter the dongles here are only on 12 month contracts, and so would cost an absolute fortune :(

marzi I have never seen an internet cafe in this country :O

misskat I do like crafty stuff, and I am making aprons and some paint things for christmas, so I do have things to do - it's just all day every day + when I feel hormonal I am more likely to just chuck it all in the floor in a tantrum -.- haha

Also the same with the wee issue - have been since day 1. Grats on good news with house! :D

gnitting glad to hear you enjoyed your baby shower not jealous at all and good luck with the viewing!

Thingymajigs · 02/12/2013 17:12

Thanks for the pillow advice. I'm going to try one night with normal pillows and then look at some of your suggestions. I had to be woken up on the bus this afternoon after work. Blush I never fail to sleep when I'm travelling somewhere.
That's great news about the diabetes check gnitting. Really hope the house works out for you too. And misskat, you must be so relieved to get in the house again.
I'm sending my secret santa soon. Smile I would travel somewhere else to post to confuse my recipient but I'm 7 months pregnant. I can barely be bothered to travel to the sink for a glass of water these days. I'm hoping to finally realise my telekinesis powers this trimester.

CubanoHabana · 02/12/2013 18:47

I want telekinesis powers too!

tinypolkadot · 02/12/2013 18:58

Hi guys, not posted for a while but I've been reading!

gnitting glad you've had some good news, hope the house viewing goes well!

littleen you never know, no internet may just be a good thing, I went a month with no internet on my phone and have never been so productive!

Another vote for the theraline pillow, it's a life saver.

I woke in a little puddle under my boob today, which is a first, so odd. Have been wearing breast pads all day- do I need to wear them all the time now?

Feeling lots of movement and think I can start to make out body parts! Can anyone else feel their placenta being prodded? Sometimes I'm sure it feels like my umbilical cord is getting a good yank Confused

Bought my secret santa today! V excited to post it

My maternity cover started a couple of weeks ago, it's the longest handover period in history!

CubanoHabana · 02/12/2013 19:12

Also, toys r us / baby's r us have a mega Monday 50% off online orders on until midnight (although glancing through its only some items which are discounted)...

Unplastered · 02/12/2013 20:09

Notone - you don't get that on the NHS round here, you lucky thing!
Our MLU has 2 birth pools, one of which was out of order when I had DD, the other was in use when I arrived... They also said when we went for our tour that it would take at least an hour and a half to fill it so to request it when we rang the hospital prior to arriving. Pretty resigned to not getting that option this time round!

LovesToBake · 02/12/2013 20:16

Unplastered and hour and a half?! They must have really low water pressure or a bloody enormous pool! I would never have had my water birth with DS if the hospital pool had taken that long to fill. I think from the moment DH mentioned that I'd like a water birth to baby out (in pool) was about 1 hour so they must have filled it in about 20 mins or so!

barebranches · 02/12/2013 20:59

im having my whopping cough jab tomorrow... but i have a cough/cold. will i still be able to have it or do u think they'll tell me to rebook?

rueyrichardson · 02/12/2013 21:35

Another clothing conundrum. We've been invited to a wedding in central London on 28 Dec. I love a good wedding, trouble is its black tie. Where the hell do I get a cocktail dress that I will wear once at 8 months gone and that is priced commensurate with use? I need a big cheap sparkly parachute.
