Can someone help me...im getting sharp shooting pains going downwards from bottom of bump into my fanjo :( its really hurting been happening for half an hour and they make me stop doing what ever I am doing. Also accompanied by lots of baby movement which is also very painful as she is like a kung fu fighter recently.

Does anyone else get this I just want to go to sleep but I cant its do painful.

Mogz · 01/12/2013 20:28

Could be baby's head pushing down and catching a nerve or two Chelsea, does it ease up if you sit/lie down for a bit?
Any way you can get in touch with your midwife to see what she says?

BetterWithCheese · 01/12/2013 20:30

I wasn't swabbed for GBS in first pregnancy and not heard about it this time. Do they do it routinely in some areas? Nom, you're in France aren't you. Anyone know about UK?

Chelsealady · 01/12/2013 20:35

Mogs just tried to call the unit no answer will try and ring again soon. Iv tried sitting makes it worse as I squash baby when I sit. Im currently laying on my left hand side my spine also feels like its going to snap!

mumoftwoboysS · 01/12/2013 20:41

chelsea I've been getting siatica pain the last few days but that's down the side of my leg- it is sooo painful and makes me yelp with pain. Not sure you have a nerve down the front tho. Could it be trapped wind? May sound silly but with baby sitting on bowels etc it can cause really awful shooting pains?

better no they don't routinely test for GBS in the uk despite some people saying it should be done. I do it because my first midwife was so keen on all her patients doing it so I have done it for all of mine but you have to pay for it (around £30) and send off for it. For peace of mind I think it's worth it. There's just not enough info on it or advice given to mums to be I don't think.

Chelsealady · 01/12/2013 20:47

Well my waters just went!!

Mogz · 01/12/2013 20:48

Oh, back on the phone then Chelsea! Hope you didn't make too much mess Wink

BohemianRaspberry · 01/12/2013 20:50

chelsea It's baby sat on the nerves. I find sitting on the loo and trying to relax pelvic floor helps with the stabby pains. Also, circling your hips on the loo helps move things around and away from nerves. I've been doing preg. yoga moves to jiggle him.

Thanks for the feedback everyone - I always think the BH are just the baby pushing out his back as my belly goes hard but I guess they are BH. Really hoping for a plug this week, even if the idea SERIOUSLY scares the beejesus out of me.

better GBS in the UK - www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/2037.aspx?categoryid=54 - that explained it really well for me Smile

Just read your last post chelsea - wow! Hopefully they will pick up - good luck!

NomDeClavier · 01/12/2013 20:55

I am indeed in France and I could, in theory, refuse. I'm in for 3 days anyway but I don't particularly want to refuse because I've worked with babies who've had GBS and it can be serious and I know IV ABs is the best prophylaxis.... I just have a thing about drips. But they have a thing about you having a drip here because it means they have IV access.

It was negative last pregnancy, it's just another thing to worry about!

mumoftwoboysS · 01/12/2013 21:05

Ooh chelsea there's no going back now- is it 24 hours that's allowed after waters breaking before you have to be induced? (If you don't go into labour before then)

bohemian good idea- I might try some movements-maybe on the exercise ball to shift baby away from that nerve!

BetterWithCheese · 01/12/2013 21:06

Ooh, exciting Chelsea, as someone said, back on phone to midwife/labour ward. My waters went pre-labour in first pregnancy and contractions started a few hours later so hopefully it's all systems go from here. Good luck!!

I've just ordered a swab after looking at GBSS website. I wish they'd do it routinely as even though it's a smallish risk, it is a serious one Sad.

kchapper5 · 01/12/2013 21:14

Ahh good luck chelsea I seem to remember your due the same day as me. I'm not going to lie I'm a bit jealous :) but hope everything goes well

extracrunchy · 01/12/2013 21:18

Woop woop Chelsea!!! Good luck and hope it's quick from now Smile

Sorelip · 01/12/2013 21:31

Good luck Chelsea!

MrsShrubs · 01/12/2013 21:36

Good luck chelsea !!

As it's officially December I have now been pregnant every single month of this year, cannot believe it. Would very much love for LO to make an early appearance because my poor body has had enough now.

Chelsealady · 01/12/2013 21:49

Im here, no pain the shooting feeling has stopped just waiting for an internal as I was 3cm dilated last week at consultant app. They think once contractions start if they do then Ill have a quick labour fingers crossed!

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 01/12/2013 21:53

Oooh exciting Chelsea! Get on the phone!

I understand Nom I tested positive on a random test for something else ...but my labours are too fast for me to get the 40mins to hospital, get the line in and have it in for the 20mins-4hrs needed to get it working....so,I'll probably labour at home and go in for monitoring afterwards.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 01/12/2013 22:02

Oh, X post, are you at the hospital already?!

Good luck!

itsliz · 01/12/2013 22:05

Oooh that was sudden! Best of luck Chelsea, hope it all goes well and doesn't take too long Smile

kchapper5 All three of us are due on the same day so it looks like the race is on between you and me now! Haha!

Chelsealady · 01/12/2013 22:06

Yes called up as soon as waters broke they told me to come straight in so my next door neighbour drove me luckily only a 5 minute drive to Epsom hosp:)

mumoftwoboysS · 01/12/2013 22:14

upthe I didn't know what the process was if the test is positive. I hope mine is negative too then as I have fast labours and doubt I'd have enough time Sad

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 01/12/2013 22:18

It's a bit rubbish mum as there's not much they can do with fast labours however the chance of passing it is lowered substantially by having a fast labour, especially if your waters haven't gone early in the labour.

UpTheFRIGGinDuff · 01/12/2013 22:21

Then they'll just monitor the baby for 24hrs,and give the baby anti B's if they suspect its been passed on.

It's very unlikely to be passed though, especially with a quick labour.
Try not to worry too much. But do go in early if your waters break before contractions set in as they might have time to get the IV working...

kchapper5 · 01/12/2013 22:22

liz I think I'll cry if you go into labour before me, even though I've said all along baby will be late and I'm sure it'll be January, but I'm well and truly fed up.
We shall have to both go into labour at the same time :)

MrsS28 · 01/12/2013 22:27

Ooh good luck Chelsea! We'll all be waiting eagerly for your news....
