Thought I'd get us started Smile

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I plan on starting ml the day I give birth (if before EDD) or my EDD. Before that I'll have almost 5weeks of holiday to use or lose.
It seems like such a waste. But they won't pay it out.
I might see if they'll let me go down to a three day week for final stretch (using two days of holiday each week) though not sure if they'll go for it.

Liquidambar · 26/11/2013 20:36

I haven't decided yet, and I will discuss it with my midwife. In theory, I think I should start in April, to have a relaxed couple of weeks. Perhaps I will use my annual leave in April and then start maternity leave in May. But I know how anxious I get about work and this will not help with another preterm. With DS I was on sick leave at 30 weeks. I'll just need to see how it goes.

CarrotCakeMuffins · 26/11/2013 20:40

Oh Igwilk I'm so sorry to hear that.
I had a suspected partial molar last year when I miscarried, so I know it's a scary thing to be told.
This is what I know:

Firstly - it might not be. They will send the mc material off to a specialist hospital to be properly checked. I think there are 3 in the uk. Mine was Charing cross in London. This was the point when I got the all clear although I had already started the testing program by then.

They will test your blood & urine every few weeks, looking for HCG levels to drop. If they do drop then all is looking good. This may take some time though, and they will want you to be clear for a while before TTC, and will do further monitoring when you do get PG / after you give birth.

If levels don't drop, you may have to go in for further treatment. This is VERY rare though so don't worry about this at the moment.

I know molar is a bit different to partial molar but I think the gist is the same.

The most likely outcome is you will be absolutely fine, but be prepared for a bit of a bumpy ride first.

Wishing you the very best, and sending lots of Thanks and Cake

MarlenaGru · 26/11/2013 20:40

I can't get my head around maternity leave yet (I think I am still scared for my scan!) but in theory will take 5 weeks leave before and start on my edd. Last time I worked til 37 weeks but still had 5 weeks before dd turned up. Was very pleased to end the commute though. My work is great and not physically demanding but the train and walk take some effort even now.

seatfor5 · 26/11/2013 20:58

Igwilk so sorry to hear about your loss x

Sussex i would be on them as really you should be scanned in the next 2 weeks!

I worked the morning I was induced with DS3 (had to do the payroll) but thats what happens when you work for DH lol!

MTMD · 26/11/2013 21:28

I would like to leave it as late as possible.. Mostly because I'd live to spend the summer of 2015 at h

MTMD · 26/11/2013 21:33

.. at home. DH is a teacher and I've worked out we should be aiming for July baby so I could have 13 months off (inc a/l) and the whole of August at home together. But it turns out we're having June baby and I stupidly failed to take into account late pregnancy.. So.. Not sure. I wonder if they could allow a slightly longer leave and if we could afford it :/

But then again.. Feels to early to talk about these things..! :)

superlambanana · 26/11/2013 21:35

Oh good point - I'll probably only take ml from 38 weeks and use 3 weeks of leave before it.

cheesysmile · 26/11/2013 21:56

I'm thinking mat leave 2 weeks before and take any holiday I've accrued before that. I'm due 5/6 so I guess could be finishing mid May.

I do actually like my job but so excited to have time off to spend with baby. Its my first so ignorance is bliss, im only thinking about the nice stuff and not how hard it might be!

MinaLeeds · 26/11/2013 22:12

Due to my shitty contract, I have to take my ML from 14th May even though not due till 14th June. If I don't, then my contract will end and I won't get any benefits at all. Stupid academic short term posts. Angry

On an aside...after the disaster that was this morning's seminar, I completely rejigged all the slides to make them less wordy and substituted text for pics etc (not to mention the fact that I will NEVER forget how to draw do the excercises again) and the afternoon seminar went really well. Yay!

hackneybird · 26/11/2013 22:48

Welcome miranda!

I'm not going to think seriously about mat leave until I have had my 12 week scan (next Monday). But it will prob be mid May (I am due 14th but plan to have an ELCS so it will probably happen the week before).

GinandStripes · 27/11/2013 08:43

Morning All Smile

It's booking-in day! MTMD what time is yours?

MTMD · 27/11/2013 09:28

In 2 min! :))

MTMD · 27/11/2013 09:29

And yours?? :)

CleverOl10 · 27/11/2013 09:30

Morning all! Good luck for any scans or booking in today.

I'm 12 weeks today yay!

It's my day off and I'm attempting my annual full day of Xmas shopping. No ms yet but not convinced. Happy thoughts though!

MyNameIsWinkly · 27/11/2013 09:37

Good luck clever, Christmas shopping destroyed me yesterday!

AuntPittypat · 27/11/2013 10:06

Eek, scan day for me today! Not til 4pm so a while to wait yet.

We've got a poorly DD today too so I'm not sure if she'll be able to go to nursery this afternoon as planned. If not then I guess DH will have to stay at home with her while I go to the scan on my own. Sad

Good luck to everyone else with scans today.

CarrotCakeMuffins · 27/11/2013 10:26

Just back from my scan. All is well. Dated me 12+5 so now EDD 6th June.
Have to go to work now...

LadyGoneGaga · 27/11/2013 11:21

First timers, do not under-estimate how knackered you will be at the end. You could be ok but I was shattered and so ready to leave. I think having a summer baby as well you are likely to swell in the heat and it's much nicer lolling about with your feet up at home! On the other hand you can always be flexible and start ML a week or two earlier if you feel you need to.

Vickyvix · 27/11/2013 12:30

Great news carrot :)

Good luck with the booking in gin and MTMD

clever good luck with the Christmas shopping, hope it's not too exhausting. I've been doing bits of mine online trying to avoid having to go to actual shops, but might go on Saturday, if I can face it!

I have such a short temper at the moment I'm not sure I'll cope with busy shopping craziness though.

Anyone else finding the hormones are giving them rage already?!

GinandStripes · 27/11/2013 12:41

MTMD at 3pm

Currently have no idea how I'll make it there. Lots of coughing in the toilet! I thought it was slowly meant to improve not be getting worse!

wispaxmas · 27/11/2013 12:45

Congrats, carrot!

I've just had an email from my best friend and she's probably about 34-35 weeks now and she hates work. She loves her job, but she says she feels massive and uncomfortable and wishes she didn't have to go to work, but she's set her last day as the 23rd December..

I think if I were still working full time I would leave at 37 weeks, but seeing as my only work is casual and zero-hour at the minute I'll probably still work a shift in late May. It's not hard work or stressful, the most I'd worry about would be the journey up into town.

MTMD · 27/11/2013 12:57

My booking-in did indeed take 2 hours!! The midwife is great, really liked her, but she had a student with her who was utterly useless.. Basically mw had to re-phrase most of her questions and kept on asking - can you explain why? Student had no clue 99% of the time, whereas I knew answers to almost every question :)

They failed to take my blood though... Apparently I have tiny veins which is news to me, never had an issue. I'll have to get them done on a scan day next week.

Bring on next Friday!!!

Lmf679 · 27/11/2013 13:20

mtmd very exciting! Did you already have your scan date before the appointment or did they book it for you today? I've only had the booking appointment letter and called them as I was worried I hadn't heard about the scan, they said they would make the appointment for me at the booking. I was just wondering how far that appointment would be as I'll be 11+5 at the booking and am getting impatient, I just want to know everything is ok, also I've dodged so many pre Xmas catch ups with friends it would be nice to be able to arrange something and tell them before Xmas.

MTMD · 27/11/2013 13:27

Lmf, I already had the scan date. I will be 12+4 during it.. I'm sure they know what they're doing though! But im sure it's annoying if you / your DH need to book time off work...

Oh by the way, I'm getting a referral to anaesthesiologist due to back scoliosis.. They need to check they'll be able to give me epidural/spinal anaesthesia if required.
