hi bighotmamma that sounds like a good idea Im looking forward to as many of us as possible meeting up after babies are born and having a few glasses of wine I need to start getting all my baby clothes down from the attic and washed too might be a good idea to do it this week if its going to be such a scorcher

janeggybee · 17/07/2006 14:56

is anyone else out there experiencing some very strange rumaging- type sensations "down below" .
it feels like the baby is trying to climb out of me or something!!!

Tbh Eeny, when it comes to it, you'll really not give a damn.
You will be sooo on cloud 199 that you could be swimming in human excrement and you wouldn't give a rats bum!
Adrenalin kicks in and takes over. You'll be too busy crying tears of joy and staring at baby Alex to care.
I just thought it was a crappy job (s'cuse the pun) for a dad to have to clean it all up.

Jebee, pleased your fingers getting better although I was getting some amusement from you describing it, lol!
As for newborn entertainment, errr nothing
They can't see anything for long enough anyway but give it a few weeks and those playmats are great. When I put dd on it at 2 weeks, she fell asleep!
Those things that attach to the car seats are ok too. They can cause some distraction if they rattle or make a noise but makes you want to rip the damn thing up

janeggybee · 17/07/2006 14:59

was getting lots of amusement from finger myself (and nothing to do with it being like a penis!!!) it still looks quite sausage like.
newborn babies dont really do much, do they???

eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 15:01

whoozits are made by the Manhatten Toy Co - I agree with Yellow they arent really for newborns as such but 3 months+ - here is a link where some are sold but it doesnt show the whole range - I have a great rattle that isnt shown on this page. I gather newborns just like being talked to and looking at your face close up.

Yellow its good to hear I will be too blissed out to care about the grime!! ooh I really cant wait!!

BHM - glad your bag is all sorted!!! Well done. And 37 weeks!! OOOhhh you must be so happy! I am of you all further along than me, I am 33 weeks and a bit and want to be DONE with the whole thing with baby in my arms!

BigHotMama · 17/07/2006 15:08

Janeggybee, is it like the baby is trying to do a hand stand lol? I feel a pinching sensation down by my bladder and then the bum rises at top of my bump and the legs kick me in the ribs! Feels mad but makes me giggle

Dreamy, I cant wait to be able to drink some vino again, I cant seem to handle it at moment as my cheeks get really hot and flushed so have stuck to the odd pint of lager shandy or glass of Magners cider. mmmmmmmmmm could just have one now actually!

Eeny, have you got Sky? Have been watching loads of waterbirths on the LivingUK channels and even saw some VBAC waterbirths - didnt see any crap floating around though but tbh dont think you'll see anything once baby Alex is born and you have him in your arms. I am praying for waterbirth too, looks so relaxing

janeggybee · 17/07/2006 15:15

bhm - maybe hanstand, noyt sure. it feels like it is trying to climb out!! when it does this i can also feel feet in my ribs which makes me think it is pushing itself down.

i would love to have a waterbirth (what would they do if you refused to sieve the water yourself - i am sure they couldn't make you do it!!) my hospital dosent have any facilities. i intend to use birth ball and bad language to get child out!!

Jebee, if you ever watched Sex and the City, Charlotte went on about Manhattan Whoozit's when she was trying to arrange Mirandas baby shower

Hers a few things

Play mat
Car seat/pram thingy

dreamydowler · 17/07/2006 15:19

me too eeny Ive still got so much to do but wished I was more like 37 weeks especially in this heat still hopefuly the next 6 weeks or so will go by quickly

janeggybee · 17/07/2006 15:25

i like the pram thingy. had a friend who had the playmat like the pictured one and she said it was ace as the baby cant get out of it!!
dreamy - if you were 37 weeks you would still be as fed up!! i wish i were still about 20 weeks as bikini would still look passible!! i had a cute little bump that didnt need to be disguised by 20 yards of fabric. i seemed to go from "petite lady sporting cute little bump" to "my god, she looks like a toffee apple with 4 sticks!!" overnight!!

First of all, thank you all for your kind messages. Unfortunately me and dh had to make the very sad decision to put our wonderful baby to sleep forever yesterday as his condition deteriorated to the point where he couldn't get up and had no feeling in his back legs. The vet said it was the kindest thing to do as there was no hope of recovery. It was either a stroke or he had a tumour growing in his brain. This was the hardest thing I have ever done and with this in mind, have decided not to have another dog for a few years. Worse thing was trying to explain to ds when he came downstairs this morning for his breakfast and he was looking all over the house for him. It broke my heart trying to explain that Bud had been very poorly and the vet had sent him to heaven so that he could chase pussy cats. Have had my mum and dad up at the house this morning, helping me to tidy away his things and hoover up the remains of the dog hairs. I keep breaking down when things remind me of him but I keep telling myself he's not in pain now and in a better world. Very

Anyway, Eeny - the sieve is for dh to scoop out your poo and the other bits that come out during and after the birth! - and believe me they do!!!!!

Hope everyone else is OK - I'm melting in this weather.

BigHotMama · 17/07/2006 15:28

At my hospital the midwives sieve any crap out quite quickly as dont think they expect us to do it do they?

Lol Janeggybee, using bad language as pain relief, I've pre-warned my DH and mom about using foul language too so hoping they wont be too shocked if I go off on one ha!

My nan's sister has just rang her and told her that her grand-daughter who was due same week as me gave birth yesterday! 3 weeks early! (OMG quietly sh*tting pants now!)

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 15:28

Lol at birthball and bad language

I tell you what else I found out, the cheeky buggers have changed the name of Pethidine now! They were calling it Meptid!

I must pack my hospital bag now.
I've washed all the clothes, sheets etc so I'm ready to go!

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 15:31

Sarahlou.

So sorry. I hope things get a bit easier for you.

BigHotMama · 17/07/2006 15:34

Oh Sarahlou am so sorry to hear your sad news about Bud!
At least he is not suffering now chick and is in doggy heaven x x x I know nothing can make you feel better as its like losing somebody really close to you and it will take time to heal.

janeggybee · 17/07/2006 15:36

sarahlou - very at your story. have been there myself. its hard when a pet goes (naturally or otherwise) as they have been part of your life for such a long time. i read somewhere that when children are involved, you can send them a postcard "from heaven" written by the departed pet explaining that they are happy and painfree. not sure if this works.
i cant imagine anything worse than seeing dh sieving poo. i wonder if any guys knew they would have to do this before they agreed to enter the room. i did wonder where they sent the water from these pools to - clinical waste??!!

dreamydowler · 17/07/2006 15:39

oh sarahlou I am so dreadfuly sorry I hope in time you will be able to look at his photos and have a few laughs at the wonderful memories they hold My mum had a painting done of our dogs when they died and has them on her wall she too has never had another dog. I know it will be hard for you over the next few weeks but know there are lots of shoulders here to cry on or friends to pick you up

eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 16:21

Sarahlou I am so so sorry! I wish I could be there to give you a big hug right now. As horrible as it was you did the right thing and allowed Bud to have a humane ending being a very loved dog. Please feel free to talk to us all anytime you need to. I wish there was something I could do.

eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 16:23

well Sarahlou, you've put things in perspective for me somewhat. I've been fuming because after paying for 24 hr delivery on Tuesday Alex's mattress still hasnt arrived and every day since then but Sunday I have waited in and woke up early so I could be awake and dressed for the delivery man. I am so angry that it still hasnt come and I doubt very much that it will today.

BHM I dont have Sky and have NEVER seen a video of a waterbirth but I would LOVE to! I so wish I had Sky!!!

muminaquandary · 17/07/2006 16:52

so sarahlou

janeggybee · 17/07/2006 17:08

eeny - have seen lots of this type of birth on discovery etc. looks much the same as normal birth except that the m/wife shines a torch on your nethers a lot as visibility is compromised and you have to keep your bum under the water until the whole baby is out (think this is due to temperature changes). the babies seem to like it as they floated in water for 9 months and you can float your baby in the water after the birth too. its also a good method of pain relief but the water temp has to be controlled carefully just before delivery. it has to be between 36-38 degrees. there are lots of qualified midwives who have never delivered a water birth before (its not a module they have to study as it depends on where they trained) so do ask!!

It's just taken me 40 minutes to catch up! That's what comes of going away for the weekend.

sarahlou, sorry about your dog . Hope your LO gets used to not having him around soon.

Melsy - was it you in hospital with potential dvt drama? Sounds like you coped brilliantly, all things considered. Hope it gives you confidence for the big day.

Spent the weekend in London. Got my neck burned wandering through the parks on Saturday. Doh! Surprised myself at how far I could actually manage to walk, although I am very very slow. That was our summer holiday .

Just school holidays and a birth to look forward to now. Aaaaaah!

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 17:37

I had a torch shone up me nethers when I had dd and I didn't have a water birth!!!

Dh thought it was great.

Got something to share with you all in mo anyway.....
