hello bellies!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
olivo · 17/07/2006 13:37

eeny -that is very bizarre - i woke up choking on sick too ( sorry TMI i know!) I was awake for ages as whenever i lay down it just happened again. gaviscon tablets eventually sorted me out -wuill take them before bed tonight.

PinkTulips · 17/07/2006 13:42

make sure you prop yourselves up well with pillows girls, that way if it happens again your in a slighly safer position. luckily my no tea and no food after 6 regime is working this time but with dd i had chronic hartburn and towards the end was getting up to throw up middle of the night. can't imagine how frightening it must be to choke like that though...

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 13:46

Hi everyone!
Busy weekend

Melsy, glad to hear your feeling a bit more positive after your nightmare week! I really hope it carries through for when you have the baby. I was quite anxious about going in when I had dd but I ended up being admitted at 26 weeks ish and it made d day alot more calmer and easier. I think under certain circumstances the "fight or flight" partof us takes over. Obviously your a fighter . Really happy for you.

Sarahlou, Sorry to hear about your dog. How is he now? We have a dog too and they really are just like having someone else in the house. My in laws have a Rotweiller too. He is a beast (actually came from your neck of the woods too!).
Postive get well vibes being sent to Mr Sarahlou dog!

MuminaQ, I know I've just said nice things about having a dog but I would really recommend waiting if you want a puppy. It might be hard to think about it atm but just try and imagine having one in winter. Its chucking it down outside, freezing cold, the dog is whining wanting to go for a walk or feeding and baby is screaming for a feed too. Not a great situation to be in! When I had my dd we lived in a house with no garden so we had no choice but to walk our dog at least twice a day and believe me its no fun having to dress and wrap up a baby, mess about with raincovers and dress yourself to go out into the feezing cold and rain to walk the dog!
Just something to think about

Hope the rest of you are all ok, apart from aching backs, legs, swollen feet etc
Oh the fun!

Weeeeell, had a busy weekend. Won't bore you but did a bit more baby shopping (clothes) and then on Sunday, did the Hospital tour. Its very nice, small but nice. Having seen the "pool" and listened to their procedures etc I've decided against using it for labour and birth. They have a little "home from home" room which has birthing balls and beanbags in. They also have an ice machine which they said dads are expected to run backwards and forwards too They also said I could stay as long as I wanted after the birth. Apparently they have a lady whos been in there 3 weeks, admittedly with twins but shes only in so that she can establish breastfeeding which I thought was great.
There is one catch though and that is number for births in July are up already and if the rooms are full when I go in to labour I will be sent to another hospital and the next nearest one is another 15 miles away, so that would be fun!

We also had a phone call last week from dd's new health visitor asking if she could come and see us, so we had a little visit from her today and it turns out she will be the new babys HV too so it was great to meet her really. Shes mentioned a few baby groups to me also so hopefully I won't be stuck in being a billy no mates when baby arrives!
We also went to dd's new pre-school today too which was fantastic. DD thought it was great but they did scare me somewhat by saying that when dd is ready to go up into infant school, which will be Sept 2008, this new baby will be almost ready to start pre-school SCARY!

Just a quick question to finish off my essay, for anyone who has bought muslin cloths, are they meant to be so huge? Never used them before so I have no idea.

PinkTulips · 17/07/2006 13:51

they may seem huge but trust me, baba will still manage to miss them when puking on you spent first few months of dd's life permanently wearing one on my shoulder and i was still covered in those nasty litle white stains! they're fantastic for shoving in your bra at the side you not feeding from to catch leakage though

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 13:52

lol

just imagining the size of my chest when the milk comes in and one of these monster muslin cloths shoved down my bra

PinkTulips · 17/07/2006 13:57

yeah, it's not attractive but then very little is at that stage so who cares!

i've just sat dd down on the tile floor with a bowl of water and some plstic toys and am restraining myself from flinching at what she's doing! dp has promised to bring her out when he gets back so not feeling too bad any more...... might have an ice lolly to celebrate

olivo · 17/07/2006 13:59

that reminds me - i had my first leak yesterday - thought i might get away with it but no!nice mark on my black t-shirt - lovely!!

olivo · 17/07/2006 14:00

go on Pink, treat yourself

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 14:04

I've just had an ice pop and would throughly recommend keeping a large stock of them in the freezer!

Speaking of leaks, I've only had little leaks in the night and nothing else which has suprised me somewhat. Thought I'd be gushing by now!

PinkTulips · 17/07/2006 14:12

Feathers, did you leak alot with your dd? coz i swamped the bed most nights from 30weeks or so with dd and haven't leaked at all this time... very wierd, my booobs don't even feel that full. i think they got stretched so much in the last couple of years preg and bf-ing that the same amount of milk just doesn't fill them now

eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 14:16

I'm actually jealous of all your girls with leaking boobies! I havent had a drop and although I know that is fine I guess I would feel better if something seemed to be going on in there!

Yellow I hope you get to give birth at that hospital, it sounds lovely. What made you decide against the waterbirth?

Hope booby is doing well, her consultant appointment is today!

Pink that is great that your DH is taking your daughter out, it eases the guilt on you!

Olivo I think you and I will both be sleeping propped up tonight!! Do not want a repeat performance of last night.

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 14:21

I'm exactly the same Pinky!
Leaked loads last time and earlier on too, this time theres nothing, just a bit thats come out in the night and has crusted on and thats only from one boob!

Eeny, it wasn't like a birthing pool I imagined, it was a big square bath with 3 little rubber ducks next to it, lol! They also said they do blood tests to check iron levels and something else, dh's/dp's are given a sieve after the birth to do, well I'll let you work that one out! Also you have to get out to deliver the placenta so it just seems daft messing about tbh.

PinkTulips · 17/07/2006 14:26

o no, pregnant brain can't cope with concept of sieve! what, why, please tell me because what i'm imagining is worse!

my hospital has a pool like that but your not allowed to actually give birth in it?! just wallow in it while contracting... pointless really, you have to climb out all wet, get dressed and go down the hall to push. not relaxing in my eyes.

glad the hospitl are going to give you loads of help bf-ing Feathers, the first few weeks are tough but it is so worth it.

dreamydowler · 17/07/2006 14:28

hi everyone most of you sound like you had a really good weekend hope your dog is ok sarahlou glad youre feeling a lot better pink although I have to say I wouldnt be thrilled at another leo child my eldest is leo and my other half and they are bossy and demanding and bad temepered even though I love them my eldest daughter phoned me from Thailand this morning to say she has lost her purse so have had to cancel her bank card luckily she has a lot of cash with her too Lunavix I Know what its like to mind over the summer its hard work especially with the older ones I used to do cooking one day paper mache next mini sports day etc and invite other minders or mums to me as a non driver it was impossible for me to take 8 under 8s anywhere as I had then also I know in my area they have a programme of free stuff for older kids put on by leisure complexes and the council swimming for free etc perhaps you could look into it .Hope booby youre appt is going well and your scan too hoppbird Im so hot today and feeling swollen and huge

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 14:30

Oh gosh, I hope your dd is ok dreamy. What a flippin pain to lose your purse!

Pinky, what your imagining is right!

eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 14:31

I dont know what happens with the sieve!! Do tell us!

Yellow I dont blame you for changing your mind about the pool. Rubber ducks are a nice if bizarre touch! Seems like they try to make an effort there which is nice.

Pink you are right your hospitals pool sounds like a joke frankly! More hassle than its worth!

This is a virtual tour of where I am giving birth! here although I think there may be a different pool in there now as the one I saw on the tour was piped in and looked a little bigger.

eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 14:32

I'm not imagining anything yet Yellow!

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 14:43

Well if you can
cast your mind back to all those birthing videos you've seen....

can you remember all the gooey slimy lumpy bits that come out after and with the baby?

Well thats what gets sieved up!
Not a very nice job to have to do when your newborn is laying just a few steps from you.

Just going to have a look at that virtual tour Eeny.

YellowFeathers · 17/07/2006 14:45

That looks lovely Eeny. A very calm looking room.

eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 14:46

ooh ok. Wow - they havent mentioned anything to me about that at our birthing centre... I wouldnt want Sal to be doing that then either! Actually I dont like the idea of sitting in a load of water full of it either but I am scared to give birth without a birthing pool so I will just have to gross it out! Thanks for explaining!

janeggybee · 17/07/2006 14:46

afternoon ladies (& sal if you are on!!)
just did a quick refresh of what is going on and the main things that jumped out are:-
chocking on puke (scary )
leaking boobies
ice lollies (yum yum

my penis finger has responded well to antibiotics and swelling has now gone down. the skin is peeling off in big clumps but on the mend!!

i have now completed the nursery (including shelves that i put up myself!! ) and there is still one major area that i have not catered for in my baby's happiness. the field of entertainment. what do newborns like (other than a cot mobile) as people are asking what to buy and i am not sure. are there any useful, tried and tested items????

OP posts:
eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 14:47

Thanks Yellow! Here's hoping... !

eenywifemum · 17/07/2006 14:49

janeggybee - glad the penis finger is improving! and well done on the shelves!! I am on baby number 1 too so dont have any tried and tested baby bits yet but I like the whoozits and my vibrating bouncy chair with a little mobile over it!

BigHotMama · 17/07/2006 14:49

Afternoon ladeez! Hope your all doing ok!
Is it hot enough for ya? My attempts to sunbathe are pathetic and I've now come inside to cool down after 15 minutes, and great - its going to get hotter tomorrow and Wednesday.

So lovely not being at work anymore, had a nice lie-in this morning and have finally got started on washing baba's wardrobe (think I overdosed them in Lenor as nearly passed out from the fumes as they are drying lol!) And thats exactly what I thought YF when I washed some muslins - couold have a picnic on them.

Did my last bit of shopping needed for hospital bag, got measured for my nursing bra and never thought I'd ever be a 40DD, DH looked shocked as he thinks they havent grown? I think our bellies stick out so much they make our boobs look smaller lol! Also got me a lovely rasberry weekend suitcase, nursing bra's, baby changing bag, breastfeeding vest top and 2 nighties. Also spend some vouchers in M&S got a mini-fan, new knickers, nice smellies and mini-empty tubs/bottles travelpack so can put my shampoo n conditioner into them without having to take the whole bottles in with me. I'm already to go now just got to iron baba's clothes and bags are well n truly packed! PHEW!

Sorry to hear about you dog SarahLou and hope he gets better, I know its touch n go with a stroke - ours had a few years ago and died shortly afterwards, was heartbroken as they are part of the family. Sending positive vibes hun x

I'm a big dog lover and at the moment am sitting at my moms on the pc with 4 Weirmaraners around me farting like mad . Definately agree with everyone else that you'd be mad to have springer spaniel with your newborn MIAQ as they are quite hyper and need loads of attention, also we used to have a springer which we took in at 4 months after been abandoned and he never took to children, I'd wait till your baba is older and have your pup from around 8 weeks so he will grow up with baba.

Melsy hope your feeling ok now chick, sounds like you really had a scare? But glad it may have helped with your anxiety.

Hope everybody else is ok and sorry if forget to mention peeps its just I cant remember who is saying what with all these posts!

37 weeks today! Yippee!

Cant think if it was Olivo or Snow about DH'd making an arse of themself and getting bladdered? My DH was 3 hours late coming home Friday night so I locked him out for 10 minutes as he hadnt got his keys lol, the only revenge I can think of is when I've finished breastfeeding I'm going to go out on an all day bender with my friends while he babysits the whole day n night! Mind you I'll probably be p*ssed after 2 pints, then end up coming home, being sick and falling asleep lol! (How irresponsibe did that sound )

dreamydowler · 17/07/2006 14:50

i would love a waterbirth but cant because of group b strep have to be hooked up to antibiotics in labour still the seive sounds manic
