Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
FoxMulder · 12/12/2013 10:27

mrs 11.30?! Bloody hell. I'm asleep by 4pm. Then I go home at 5 Smile

lib I sympathise with the DIY. As I keep going on about, we are doing our bathroom at the moment. And by 'we' I mean DH, obviously, but I like to take credit for all his work Grin. After that we need to strip & plaster & paint & lay carpets & convert this alcove thing we have in our bedroom into a wardrobe....

I've got my parents coming to stay this weekend and as previously mentioned the house is a total tip! There are things piled on the spare bed & I don't know what I'm supposed to do with them and I haven't washed the bedsheets since our last visitor (which was so long ago I don't even remember who it was). Aaaargh! I think I should start maternity leave right now. And be off for at least 2 years. And get full pay, obviously.

mrsmugoo · 12/12/2013 13:35

Yeah last night was a really late one - wasn't flat out working though, just stayed late so that I could be on a couple of meetings - I was on the sofa watching 4OD for some of the evening :)

Fingers crossed we are out by 6 tonight and we can pick up a Christmas tree on the way home.

OwlinaTree · 12/12/2013 19:25

Well nearly end of the week for me. Slowly ticking things off the do by Xmas list at work. Is looking good for getting a lot done, but hard to leave work before 6 realistically.

Nice meal out with parents and aunt and uncle tonight, then a mini lie in am as I have another scan! Fx all will be well, baby is so wiggly so hopefully that's a good sign.

liberuna · 13/12/2013 00:21

fox its just a never ending list, isn't it? When do you hope to have things done? Can your family help while they're staying over?

owl let us know how the scan goes.

lumpy completely sympathise. Life goes on whether we like it or not and the things that get us through become all the more important. My colleague recommended that at the end of each day. Think of one thing you've accomplished / ticked off your to-do list and one thing that has made you happy.

I've wrapped the Xmas presents for OH (biscuits and childrens book) and felt baby move against my hand. :)

Anyone else wanna share?

FoxMulder · 13/12/2013 10:17

Hmm, I think we should get it all done in the next 20 years or so lib Smile. Oh, I don't know. DH is off work today to work on the bathroom (and do the shopping). He's off Monday too so it should be a fair way along by then. He's got 2 weeks off at Christmas too so I hope it will be finished by the time we go back to work. Although we are going down to my parents' for a good chunk of that time.

Then I don't think the carpets/painting should take too long. Hope I'm not being too optimistic there. Parents and PILs have offered to help but there's not much anyone can do. Housework situ isn't as bad as I had built it up to be, I was just getting stressed out.

I went to M&S last night to get their 'meal deal for £10'. But the only non-alcoholic drink sounded gross, so I stared at the other food for a while then gave up and came home and cried because we didn't have any food & the house was untidy. Stupid brain. I can't even blame pregnancy really because I'm rather prone to getting paralysed indecision when I'm stressed.

BakingEating · 13/12/2013 16:42

Poor Fox, I've done much the same thing plenty of times. You go out with a pretty good idea of what you want, then get overwhelmed by lots of choices that aren't quite right, then get option paralysis.

I'm in a major stew over what to get dh for Christmas. He doesn't want any of my nice suggestions (warm, soft, cosy things). He just wants camera equipment. How does that satisfy my need to nest? Hmm

BakingEating · 13/12/2013 16:43

Owl how was the scan?

OwlinaTree · 13/12/2013 19:00

Scan was fine thanks baking. Baby all cutched up so she struggled to get the measurements, did a bit of rolling about so she could get them!

Nice to see the baby again and see that all looks well, she checked the cord and the blood flow which was all fine and reassuring for us. Couldn't actually see that much detail of the baby cos it's getting so big, but it's all OK.

Bounty Lady turned up at the waiting area while we were there. She was offering round the packs to everyone in exchange for your personal details. I didn't take one cos i hate giving out my details, have I missed out on any amazing freebies?

PiratesMam · 14/12/2013 08:09

Morning all, it's been ages since I posted! I had another scan this week too, all seemed fine thank goodness. Next one in Jan.

I am horribly ill - on antibiotics for a cheat infection that just won't budge. Been having hot baths , Vicks vapour rub, paracetamol as well as the antibiotics. The doc has also given me an inhaler as my breathing is so shallow. Had it for over a week now! Anyone have any tips about how to shift it? So sick of being ill! Hmm

Otherwise things are on the up for us - building work nearly finished, DS had his nativity this week (he was Joseph!!!!) and DD starts preschool in January so I'm hoping life will get a bit easier after Xmas?! In the meantime I actually have to prepare for Xmas and try and get better. Duvet day today as my lovely mum has offered to have the kids over for lunch so DH and I can rest. Hard to though with builders crashing around upstairs!

I am going to try to be better at keeping up with the thread from now on. Promise.

Hope everyone has good weekends!! Smile

pixiebell79 · 14/12/2013 09:36

Hi Pirates, glad the scan went well - it's always so reassuring to see them and hear them, there's nothing quite like it. I've had my second scan so I'm done with them now, sadly.

Oddly enough, I've just seen a Facebook post from a friend on her second course of antibiotics for a chest infection who tried Vicks on the feet then socks before going to bed last night - she said it has helped her, Although she doesnt know why. I'm guessing its also one of the few remedies open to us too!

Good luck, hope it shifts v soon.

Imeg · 14/12/2013 12:46

I have another scan on Monday too. Off to the in-laws for the weekend to compare bumps with sister-in-law (the babies will be just over a month apart).

I've got rid of the bug, thank you, but am getting tired now and finding bump is getting in the way more... On the other hand am in no hurry for March as feeling very unprepared and clueless!
Apparently in our local maternity ward partners are sent home from 9pm to 11am. While I appreciate that crowds of people are not helpful for all sorts of reasons it seems an extremely long time to be left on my own with a baby which I don't know how to look after... Will have to hope it arrives in the early morning.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 14/12/2013 14:25

Glad all was well with your scans owlina and pirates. I have my 28 week scan a week on Monday so am starting to feel nervous about it.

Imeg, with DD1 I didn't find that I actually had that much to do during the first overnight while DH was at home. Overnight I slept and attempted to feed her a couple of times and then in the morning I changed her nappy and attempted to feed her a million more times (my children just seem to take a long time to want their first feed as DD2 was the same) and sat around holding the baby while people came in to do obs at various times.

liberuna · 15/12/2013 11:37

Glad to hear about scans.

pirate sounds awful, hope you feel better. Love that your ds made Joseph I think its the only reason im having kids. To dress em up Grin and show them off

imeg
My hospital has essentially said once have baby and you'll be shipped out as soon as poss. (Obviously if all goes well)

PiratesMam · 15/12/2013 14:02

Yes imeg you might not even have to stay in overnight, you never know. Also some hossies are less strict with visiting times than they let on, especially if you've only just had the baby when visiting time "ends".

lib I was SO proud that he was Joseph, I went totally Alpha Mum and actually had to stop myself from telling everyone I saw. He was shorter than Mary which was so sweet. I had to make the outfit - first thing I've ever made!

Feeling slightly less emphysemic today. DH hoovered our rooms and their was a small Hoover bag full of dust in EACH ROOM from the building work which can't have been helping Shock

PiratesMam · 15/12/2013 14:05

Pixie I've heard that Vicks on the feet idea too! Might try it tonight. I hate wearing socks in bed though!

BWP good luck on Monday. It is so good to get them out of the way.

Imeg · 15/12/2013 18:05

Hmmm, fingers crossed baby will be tired after all the excitement... We won't be able to leave straight away unfortunately, even if delivery has gone well, because a paediatrician will need to look at the baby, take a blood sample and get it signed up in their systems for further appointments (poss via a geneticist). Not sure what else, the baby shouldn't need any actual care/treatment/extra attention until it's older but suspect there may be other hoops to jump through before they let us out of the door.

OnTheRunAndUpTheDuff · 16/12/2013 10:23

Hello everyone,

Would it be ok if I (re)joined this thread? I hopped onboard way back in the summer, but totally lost track. Now the threads seem to have slowed down I have managed to read a whole one and thought it would be nice to stop and say hello again.

I'm expecting dc2, I have a ds who will be nearly two by then. My 'due' date is 9th March, but ds showed up a couple of weeks before his, so we're trying to be ready by mid-February just in case.

I recognise a few posters on here from other threads ( preggo rage anyone? Grin). Looking forward to having another place to vent talk all things pregnancy.

mrsmugoo · 16/12/2013 10:37

Morning everyone, hope you had nice weekends?

I'd like to say I did but the old issue that one of our biggest clients may leave us has reared it's head again and so spent the entire weekend on panicked phone calls and drawing up financial scenario spreadsheets.

Just before bloody christmas as well - merry effing christmas!

Which leads me on to a question - please reassure me... my baby is moving (so I'm not going to call the midwife or hospital) but the movements don't seem to be getting as strong as i thought they would? I'm a FTM so I assumed that kicks would get bigger and bigger and they haven't - if anything there are less "kicks" and more rolls and wriggles. I think maybe baby has moved position as I feel "thuds" but they're not on the outside - guess he/she is kicking towards the back?

I'm sure this is normal as baby is, I suppose, running out of space - someone just tell me they have similar and I'll stop stressing out about it!!

mrsmugoo · 16/12/2013 10:38

and hello OnTheRunAndUpTheDuff!

BakingEating · 16/12/2013 11:22

Mrsmugoo I've found that if I'm busy I don't notice the kicks and wriggles so much. It might be your workload affecting your perception of the kicks...?

Hello ontherun!

mrsmugoo · 16/12/2013 11:40

That could definitely be part of it as I haven't had as much "down time" to just focus on movements.

Once this issue is sorted out one way or the other I am definitely slowing things down on the work front.

I'm not a workaholic, but when it's your own business (well my DHs) I have a vested interest to make sure it's running well and our income is "secure" at least until I'm able to potentially get a full time job elsewhere and supplement the income. At the moment I'm pretty helpless - I'm 3 months away from giving birth so we NEED the money.

BakingEating · 16/12/2013 15:55

Fingers crossed it gets sorted out soon then. Know what you mean about finding it hard to slow down. I'm hoping that Christmas will provide enough of a break to change the routines, however I've just found out that I have an interview in January. Eeeeeek!

liberuna · 16/12/2013 16:18

Hiya ontherun we share the same due date. Im packing my bag in January. Even though OH thinks it's too soon.

mrs its not my business and I feel the same. Have to make sure projects and dept is all sorted before I go.
Movement wise i find the busier I am the less register movement. Whereas yesterday was just watching telly and I'm sure there was a disco in my belly!

Qiestion:
I find it more difficult now to do kegels than before. Is anyone else finding this?

mrsmugoo · 16/12/2013 16:24

About the kegals - YES! I've been feeling very "heavy" down there for about a week now, especially if I cough if feels like my womb is going to drop out!

Also question for the Mums who know - do you know if pushchairs/car seats/cots go in the January sales? I said I doubt they would (what with them not being seasonal) but someone disagreed and is getting ready to hit the sales on Dec 27 to try to buy a pushchair and a cot. (specifically talking about John Lewis)

OnTheRunAndUpTheDuff · 16/12/2013 16:49

mrsmugoo I also definitely feel less movement when I'm busy. I realised at about 11am this morning that I hadn't felt any movement since I got up, but also that I hadn't sat down at all. I put my feet up and had a cuppa and within five minutes I was being pummeled to pieces. The position of the baby also makes a big difference still at this stage - that does change when you get near the end though as they have so little room that you can feel every shuffle.

liberuna January is not too soon! I will be doing the same. I went into labour at 37+5 last time and my bag was only half packed. Luckily it was a home birth and everything went according to plan so it didn't matter. Would have been a bit buggered if we'd had to transfer in though. I intend to have everything organised by 35 weeks this time .

I had a lovely day off today. I normally work on Mondays so DS was with the childminder. I made candied orange peel and crystalised ginger, finished a knitting project, and just generally pottered about at home. It was amazing! I'm off tomorrow as well but I have back-to-back appointments so I'm glad I made the most of a day to myself at home Smile.
