I'm a fan of vests for the same reason as Rock - no draughty gap round the middle. Another advantage is that, when they get older they can't shove their hands in their nappy so easily. In the summer, just nappy and vest was fine a lot of the time. Last winter it was vest then sleep suit then snowsuit. Now he's toddling, DS wears a vest with trousers and t-shirt over it.

OwlinaTree · 06/12/2013 07:45

Thanks for vest advice! Our March babies will probably need them.

FoxMulder · 06/12/2013 09:32

I sit around my house with 3 layers on. And that's with the heating on! Oh dear, I might need to crank up the thermostat once little one is here. At least spring will be on it's way by late March.

Rock I just got her a sticker book in the end. Sounds lame, I know but after lengthy discussions with sister/mum they reckoned that was the best thing. I have a bunch of other stuff I need to take back to the shop now!

Soooo glad it's Friday. I could sleep for a week!

catameringue · 07/12/2013 18:47

Hello!

I hope you don't mind, I'm just popping over from the April group to ask a quick Q:

I've met a lovely lady at my preggers yoga class who was interested in chatting to others also due in March. I explained about my April group and our facebook group and how lovely and supportive it is, but she said she couldn't find her way here and has never used MN before.

Do you have a facebook group that she could join? And if so, what's the best way of getting her involved? Give her the link to this thread or is there someone she could message etc?

Thanks!

liberuna · 07/12/2013 19:11

Hi cat

How's April coming along? :) please by all means provide her with the link to this thread.

We are a friendly and sharing bunch and to ease her in ask her to join MN. As it would be in her best interests to have access to all the different groups available and offers, news etc.

liberuna · 07/12/2013 21:59

Hey ladies with children

Question what was it like in the first week after giving birth?

I'm assuming I'm going to be a big hormonal mess with the intelligence of amoeba only fit for feeding that doesn't know its own name.

LyraSilvertongue · 07/12/2013 22:14

Not too bad, Lib. You'll be completely enchanted with the tiny new human you've made and won't be able to take your eyes off him/her but also daunted and feeling like "OMG, what do I do with this?!" That's how I felt, anyway.

IceNoSlice · 07/12/2013 22:29

Spot on Lyra. I would also add that your belly will still be quite big (and a bit jelly like), you'll be bleeding lochia which isn't very pleasant (bit like a period) and you'll be wondering what on earth just happened. And crying at TV adverts or songs on the radio. But it will also be utterly amazing.

Rockchick1984 · 07/12/2013 23:26

I think I was just entirely shell-shocked at first when I had DS - a combination of hormones, overwhelming love and terror of this tiny squishy baby, plus feeling like I was leaking from every orifice and unlikely ever to sleep again... And yet so insanely happy at the same time! Its very strange, I don't think anything can prepare you for it so just go with how you feel and try not to have any expectations of yourself :)

lumpylumps · 08/12/2013 08:02

I think I was on a high!! I don't remember being too overly emotional. He was born on the Saturday. We were discharged on the Monday, re admitted on the Tuesday due to more than 10% weight loss, discharged at 9pm on the Wed. Had 2 days at home then were at a wedding all day on the Saturday. Dh was best man.

I think it was a couple of weeks later that I had a meltdown!!

Imeg · 08/12/2013 12:05

Another possibly very silly question: I will get some of the white muslin squares as I can see their usefulness, but are they made of anything special or would anything soft, cottony and easily washable do the same job? i.e. could I cut up some old t-shirts or similar if I run out of them?

IceNoSlice · 08/12/2013 16:39

Imeg yes you could do that. They are mainly for wiping up messes! It would be good to make sure you have some that are quite big though for putting over your shoulder when you burp the baby to catch any milky sick.

FoxMulder · 09/12/2013 09:19

Wow, it really has died a death round here Sad

I'm shattered today. I think it's half the time of year and half the work's do on Saturday. I was out until 11 (I know, I'm so wild and crazy) and felt rather like I had a hangover yesterday! Also I still have no shower at home which doesn't help anything. DH was tiling all weekend, but there's more t do before the shower can go back up. Urrrghhh, I feel crap.

mrsmugoo · 09/12/2013 11:49

I'm still here - I can't quite work out why I can't get onto the FB group - I think I must have my settings just toooo private haha!

Spent the weekend at my parents and sorted all the newborn stuff about into piles of newborn/0-3/3-6 etc... God those newborn babygros and vests are so tiny, they're like dolls clothes I swear! My heart was melting.

Baby keeps wriggling into it's favourite position which is his/her little bottom poking right out on my right hand side, it's so cute!

Had to go out and get some over bump maternity jeans today - the under bump ones are great for nice neat little 4/5 month bumps but I've had a growth spurt and can't keep them up now - need a waist band right over the top now - heavy duty!

pixiebell79 · 09/12/2013 20:31

Hi, this is my first posting - I'm expecting my first on March 21st and think the braxton hicks have already started - certainly feels every so often like there's a vice around my bump! How is everyone else getting on? Feels like there's still a long way to go...

Cassiopeia01 · 09/12/2013 20:43

Welcome pixie.

Fasterkillpussycat · 09/12/2013 20:51

Hi Pixie. I am due on 21 March too with my first. No Braxton hicks yet but bump is certainly starting to get uncomfortable!

HotCrossPun · 09/12/2013 21:03

Hi Pixie! How has your pregnancy been so far?

PainAuxRaisins · 09/12/2013 22:07

Hi Pixie, I'm due on March 28th (and starting to feel the braxtons too). Feeling very heavy and tired at the mo even though I've a good 3-4months to go! Are you the friend of catameringue (see about 15 posts up the page)??

dizhin79 · 09/12/2013 22:36

Mrsmugoo i've found that too, this wknd I was forever pulling up my under bump jeans, I'll start hunting for some bump cuddlers!

liberuna · 09/12/2013 22:47

Mrs little cutie. How can you tell its the bottom?

I can't decide whether to get more under bump or over bump as everything feels constricting.

Welcome pixie im due 9th but with anterior placenta getting things a lot later than others. What is Broxton hicks?

Do you know what you are having?

liberuna · 09/12/2013 22:51

lumpy if you don't mind sharing. .. what classified as a melt down?

On a separate note finally finished the guest room and it looks brand new :) (hadn't been touched in years). This will give us more space to store things andwnow hopefully I can start on baby room.

mrsmugoo · 10/12/2013 08:48

lib I had a scan last week so I could see babies position and confirmed the rounded hard thing was its back/bottom and was why I got the hard thumps on that side - little monster! (The little shuffles and tickles the other side are hands squiggling around)

diz I got my new jeans from H&M thy we're only 14.99

FoxMulder · 10/12/2013 08:49

Morning all. pixie and Faster I can join you on being due 21st March with my first!

I reckon I was getting some Braxton Hicks yesterday too. lib it is when your uterus tightens up then relaxes again. Like practice contractions. When the mw was examining me last week she said I was having one but I couldn't tell!

Re: jeans. I have some under bump and some over bump and the over bump really piss me off. The waistband on them is SO low. If it weren't for the stretchy cottony bit, you would see my arse crack. It feels really restrictive having something tight around your hips. So I'm sticking with under. These underbump work trousers are going to have to do me until end of Feb anyway.

P.S. Still no shower at Chez Fox Sad

mrsmugoo · 10/12/2013 11:59

The waistband on my new H&M ones goes all the way up to my boobs haha! Is soooo nice not to be hitching them up all day - bliss!

I bought a size up as well so I wouldn't feel constrained in them and HOPEFULLY they last to the end now.
