Why are some of you STILL not in the FB group? All the action's over there these days.

mrsksays · 28/11/2013 06:00

How do I join?

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 09:14

Oh, you know I can't get on there from work Lyra. No need to rub it in! Smile

Ikea is considered pretty upmarket around these parts. Probably because it is so far away. You would have to go all the way to the big city and mix with the cosmopolitan big city folk to get to an Ikea.

I think Argos is probably our equivalent. I have a bed from Argos and actually it's done really well. The matching bedside cabinets are shit though, so it's a bit luck-of-the-drawer (ha! get it! drawer! I'm a comedy genius!)

I'm a bit tempted to make a trip to Ikea this weekend now. Shame their beds are funny sizes.

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 09:14

Oh, and mrsk you've got to PM Lyra your Facebook username and she will add you. Not that I should be encouraging even more of you to leave me languishing on mn.

Rockchick1984 · 28/11/2013 09:15

In case anyone is waiting to order mothercare stuff, they have got 20% off everything including existing offers... My pram was on offer for £320 for pram, carrycot and car seat (saving £150) so can now get another £60 off it!

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 09:41

Oh bugger, the pram we have agreed to buy from a friend for £75 is on there for £230. So 20% off is £184. And it comes with a free car seat. Which we will have to buy for about £90. So we're really saving nothing. Flippin' brilliant.

Rockchick1984 · 28/11/2013 10:21

Fox buy it new - if anything goes wrong its worth having the warranty. Friend will understand (or possibly offer to sell it cheaper to you).

dizhin79 · 28/11/2013 10:24

good tip guys, shall get on the mc website and check out the sale. Does anyone know how long this 20% off is lasting?

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 10:37

I don't think I could go back on my word Rock. We agreed ages ago. And actually, it does come with a carrycot so that's worth a bit.

diz it only lasts 'till Monday.

Rockchick1984 · 28/11/2013 10:50

Up to you Fox but I know if I was the friend and you explained you can get it for the same price new I'd understand why you didn't want to buy it off me. Then again, I'm the cheeky cow who just rang mothercare as I'd bought the pram earlier this week so they have agreed to refund me the difference - am on a tight budget so £60 is a huge saving for me!

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 11:01

I know what you mean, it's just a bit awkward. She's not a personal friend - just a family friend who I've not seen since I was a kid, so it's not like we're close. Calling Mothercare is totally different, they're a big corporation! That's good that they gave you the discount though. £60 IS a huge saving. And this pram does come with the carrycot, which Mothercare sell for £120 + cosytoes which is about £60.

To be honest, I'm not even paying for it myself. My mum is getting it for me. But I don't like to splash others' cash any more than I like splashing my own!

Rockchick1984 · 28/11/2013 11:11

Same here re other people's cash - I figure if I'd find myself the bargains I'll do it for others too. Introduced my mum to cashback sites a few months ago, she didn't know quite what to do with herself when she got £100ish for switching her car insurance Grin

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 11:23

Nice! Now did she manage that? I switch my car insurance every year, but didn't realise there was cashback on offer!

We did sign up for a cashback credit card though & that's worked out pretty well.

Rockchick1984 · 28/11/2013 12:27

Quidco and top cashback - both offer cashback if you go to a website via theirs. Me and DH got £100 each for doing life insurance through confused.com, just by going on quidco and following their link! Also got £22 (I think) back on my pram via quidco - I've used them for years, it's literally free money!

FoxMulder · 28/11/2013 12:35

I use topcashback, but I've only made pennies so far. I'll keep on it though.

mrsksays · 28/11/2013 18:22

My ribs are killing me today. Definitely a growth spurt going on in there.

dizhin79 · 28/11/2013 19:54

Oooh ouch, I have begun with heart burn Sad

But to make things worse I really want mince pies, don't think that's the best for heart burn but hey ho!

BakingEating · 29/11/2013 06:39

Poor Diz. Wrong time of year for heartburn.

Blockette · 29/11/2013 10:20

Poor Diz at least you wouldn't feel so bad about the heartburn if you enjoyed a mince pie first! I mean, if you are getting heart burn anyway might as well enjoy the time before ;)

mrsksays · 29/11/2013 10:43

I'm getting heartburn a bit now too - but only if I over eat. And by over eat, I mean more than a sparrow's portion.

Guessing my uterus is now coming up and squishing my stomach and organs out of the way - and it only going to get a hell of a lot worse - yikes!

MummyBee87 · 29/11/2013 15:30

Hi guys, I've not been on here for ages!! Things have just been so manic at both home and work. I've started to panic now about what I need for the baby. Does anyone have a good list of what is needed etc?
Thanks x

LyraSilvertongue · 29/11/2013 16:57

Sorry, Fox. I forgot about the work thing. Is it a firewall thingy?

Rockchick1984 · 29/11/2013 17:59

MummyBee it depends entirely on what budget you're on as to what is considered "essential". The bare minimum is:
*place to sleep
*pram or sling
*car seat if you drive
*clothes (sleepsuits and vests)
*nappies
*Wipes (or cotton wool and water if you're a masochist)
*blankets and bedding
*little jacket or something for outdoors
*if formula feeding, bottles and steriliser
*big knickers for me for after the birth
*maternity pads and breast pads.

That's literally it.

The other stuff I found essential when I had DS was
*sling
*bouncy chair (preferably with vibrate function)
*a few cute outfits for photo opportunities
*plenty of chocolate and squash for me
*nipple cream - lansinoh is by far the best and lasts forever
*some sort of yoga pants or similar, so I didn't look too scruffy when visitors came round but I was still comfortable.

dizhin79 · 29/11/2013 21:46

Good list, I have eaten my body weight in Toffifees, screw the heart burn Grin

MummyBee87 · 29/11/2013 21:50

Thanks Rock!! I think that should get me going on the shopping stakes! I'm starting to get nervous now that I haven't got a clue what I'm doing! I'm completely lost!!
