Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Icenoslice Well I definitely wouldn't put a baby on the edge - that doesn't seem safe at all!

IceNoSlice · 25/11/2013 15:38

You could smother the baby with a duvet if he/she us between you.

It's doable with a king size bed (see pic on this link):

Diz glad you got your heating back on.

Rockchick1984 · 25/11/2013 15:49

There are cheaper options if you want a co sleeper cot - this one is what my friend got and its fab. NCT hire one for £100ish for 6 months, or even cheaper the ikea hacker which will last ages as its full size. Definitely don't co sleep with a baby between you!

Rockchick1984 · 25/11/2013 15:53

I wanted a co sleeper but have been gifted a wooden crib so think we will use that. Baby is in with us until sleeping pretty well anyway as she will be sharing a room with DS (not willing to give up using the third bedroom as a playroom) so will just have to see what happens re moving out of our room!

FoxMulder · 25/11/2013 15:53

Just been reading the Which? guide to car seats. It is infinitely more complicated than I had realised!

Cassiopeia01 · 25/11/2013 17:19

We are getting a Moses basket and will see where we go from there. Our bedroom isn't big enough for a full size cot so am hoping he won't outgrow the Moses basket before he can go into his own room!

Re car seats, I feel your pain fox. It's like a whole new world that I just do not feel qualified to participate in!!

dizhin79 · 25/11/2013 19:02

foxy good call checking out which? I was just thinking the other day where should I look for objective reviews.

Am basking in a heated room planning which bubble bath to use later on, soooo glad it was fixed Grin

lumpylumps · 25/11/2013 19:15

we'll be having a crib by the bed for the 1st 6 months. Moses baskets are too noisy and I've never known a baby still fit in one long enough to get to 6 months!!

IceNoSlice · 25/11/2013 20:00

I agree lumpy. DS was too big for Moses basket after 6 weeks let alone 6 months.

dizhin79 · 25/11/2013 20:05

oh joy lumpy and ice u are stating my fear! Think moses basket will last momentarily! Back to the drawing board

liberuna · 25/11/2013 20:31

SIL is giving us a moses basket. We have small bedroom so just having baby sleep in that with us. Nursery is next door, thinking of moving baby there at 6+ month.

Sounds lovely evening diz

mrsksays · 25/11/2013 20:35

I've been given a moses basket and that buys us some time on the cot so we don't have to have it right from birth. We are really pushed for space - we need to put a tonne of stuff in storage or sell. We are currently bursting at the rafters with possessions in our 2 bed place but we'll get there!

Coolhand · 25/11/2013 22:27

Yes, I second the idea that Moses baskets are short term only. DS was v big but he outgrew his at 6-7 weeks (seriously) but he was also a thrasher which didn't help!

A crib is the next size up - it's not a cot but allows for more room. We were lucky enough to borrow both the Moses basket and crib from friends and just bought new mattresses but if you do have to buy brand new, they have good re-sale value (or get one off eBay/Gumtree and just replace the mattress).

Smaller babies fit in Moses baskets until 3 months absolute maximum I would say - a crib might last until 6 depending on baby size.

Coolhand · 25/11/2013 22:36

I'm ashamed to say we moved DS into his own room at 3 months last time (well short of the recommended 6) which was when he went into a big cot - he was repeatedly banging his hands/legs etc off the side of the crib and waking, so we felt we needed to go bigger.

We were a bit ruthless as we followed GF and were all for creating a self-settler and non-clingy baby. End result - I have a completely clingy child who is still rubbish at the self-settling bit. I had the cling on baby who couldn't be set down even at 6 months - cue lots of battles, lots of screaming matches and despite being told, he just has to learn, he never did (which is why I think personality plays such a big part in these things).

This time round, I'm going for co-sleeper for as long as I can, then cot!

midnight1983 · 25/11/2013 22:43

Hi all, haven't been on the thread for ages and haven't yet caught up but just wanted to say hello! Also, is anyone else just massively irritated by everything in the entire world at the moment?! I'm 26 weeks along now and I'm not sure I'll cope if my irritation and angst levels keep rising...

dizhin79 · 25/11/2013 22:46

Wise words cool rough plan then see what the little tike is like /needs.

Aaaah have had my bath, passionflower bubbles Smile, and now to try and sleep without any weird dreams, bathroom trips, sneezing fits or the feeling that I'm cooking in our newly warmed house Grin

mrsksays · 26/11/2013 08:53

Beautiful wintery morning!

Started listening to the natal hypnotherapy CDs in bed last night. When she said to visualise beams of relaxing light going through you wrapping around the baby (or something like that!) the baby would kick me right in the side haha! Super relaxing though and of course I fell asleep before the end of the birth prep one.

FoxMulder · 26/11/2013 09:11

It's a really, really gloomy one here. Properly dark still. It reminds me a bit of Christmas - this kind of truly miserable weather. It just needs to rain a bit.

That's what I should have done last night - listen to the natal hypnotherapy CDs. Instead I went to bed and watched 'I'm a Celebrity' Blush.

I didn't realise that not all car seats go in all cars. We want a Britax one so it fits on the pushchair, but the Britax car seat will only fit in the front seat of our car. Bollocks. I'm going to investigate whether other brands of car seat will fit the pram.

I'm really cross with myself over what I've been eating: too much sugar and not enough fruit & veg. I always thought I would be super healthy when preg but as it turns out I have no willpower. Grr...need to do better.

mrsksays · 26/11/2013 09:18

Don't beat yourself up too much over your diet, your baby has first dibs on all your nutrients anyway!

I've realised I'm not drinking enough water - this is my mission to get back up to 2 litres a day like I used to.

FoxMulder · 26/11/2013 09:31

I know but I've not been beating myself up enough! Less cake, more fruit. That's my new motto.

Rockchick1984 · 26/11/2013 09:38

Fox what pram have you got?

FoxMulder · 26/11/2013 09:41

Britax B-Smart. Well, we don't actually have it in our possession yet but we have agreed to buy it second hand from a friend.

mrsksays · 26/11/2013 09:53

Think I need to go bra shopping today - this one is digging in something chronic. I'm in a 36C up from a modest 34B. God knows what I'll need now!

FoxMulder · 26/11/2013 10:09

You should give yourself a measure because most places are really shit at it and still do the adding 4 inches to the back measurement thing.

Mind you I'm no expert. I know all the theory of bra fitting, but I'm still wearing a cropped top!

I think I'm going to have to go to a shop and talk to someone about car seats. It's crazy complicated.

mrsksays · 26/11/2013 10:27

Well I've been measuring myself and buying £4 primark sports bras and I've just gone for whatever fits after trying on. I know I will keep growing out of them until the baby comes. I will get fitted properly and buy decent nursing bras though.
