Okay I don't like to run out of things, even threads, so here's the new one.

Can't remember who described their baby kicking like an octopus but it's very true :)

OP posts:

Gnitting our nursery is off our bedroom previously my dressing room, sob sob sniffle I hadn't even considered it to be a problem..... The only other bedroom is enourmous and is next to the stairs so I think i'm making the right choice. I'm assuming it's going to be quite a long time before my child is going to bed after me and by them we will have hopefully won the lottery and extended the house massively.

Eeeeeeek my secret santa gift has been dispatched and will be heading to the recipient soon! Can't believe thats the only bit of christmas shopping I've done so far!

gnittinggnome · 28/11/2013 14:10

shrops I did think that when we go into the roof, or get a garden studio for my study and can free up the other bedroom, it will do perfectly as a little dressing room!

winterflowers · 28/11/2013 14:16

Omg shrops you're so organised! My giftee is is definitely going to have to wait a little (sorry).

I really wouldn't worry about having their bedroom off mine. Probably nice to have them to hand?

laura0007 · 28/11/2013 14:47

Whoever gets their gift in the next few days then knows shrops had them! Bloody hope she doesn't have me... Will be either a blow up man or a vibrator... Wink

camwombat · 28/11/2013 15:15

blooming 'eck Shrops thats organised. I have been looking online but thats all.

ds will be having a room at the other end of the house when we make his current room into nursery. he will be keeping the stair gate on his door, even if I have to buy more.

in our old house both bedrooms were at top of stairs so we made sure we had a stairgate on his bedroom and at top of stairs so we had double safety measures in place.

today is not a good day, I am tired and grumpy, we have run out of milk, the dog has stolen my lunch, I have just stood in a quiet place and screamed, and am now sobbing gently. I think I need a time out when dh gets home.

sunflowered · 28/11/2013 15:27

We have a 2 up 2 down so limited choice about which room will be the nursery! It's a good sized room though, so plenty of room.for a whole flock of small children before we upsize (after the stresses of extending the downstairs this year dh and i have agreed it'll be a long time before we get the builders in again voluntarily).

Stairgates are definitely going in as soon as it starts to think about moving on its own steam. First though we'll have to invest in tiny knee protectors after fitting a beautiful but rather uneven slate floor in our kitchen/living room. People who see it assume we didn't know i was preg before we ordered it... Blush

Shropshiremummy2B · 28/11/2013 16:09

If I wasn't such a MASSIVE prude I would be buying a big dildo and putting it straight in the post for laura just to mess with your head!

sunflowered · 28/11/2013 16:29

Shropshire that's what internet ordering is for Wink

Littleen · 28/11/2013 16:42

shrops if you plan to use the adjacent room as room for kids, are you not worried they will hear 'noises' ? :p Small kids are fine but older ones I'd worry about! haha

Shropshiremummy2B · 28/11/2013 16:53
  1. I'm a prude, I can't answer that
  2. Our room is big, the dressing room is down some steps and has a thick oak door.
  3. sunflowered my cheeks are on fire Blush
EeyoreIsh · 28/11/2013 17:17

I'm guessing that shrops has bought an amazingly glam piece of maternity/nursing clothing using lots of asos vouchers to get it under £10 Grin

Eurostar fast tracked me through passports today, and I've got a very comfy seat after all. I did get told I had a very small bump for 7 months, to which I replied the baby was still bloody heavy.

gnitting - that's so frustrating about your house Sad I hope you find a better one soon, for less money!

bugsy - I went to gp as ribs were so so painful. Apparently there's nothing he can do, I already have co-codomal. I'm afraid to say that I can no longer lie on any side without them hurting, it's progressed to a really sharp pain on the right hand side. I hope yours don't get as bad. mine is worse after carrying heavy bags, so avoid that if you can. weight on the shoulders is not good.

marzipanned · 28/11/2013 17:49

Ooh I bought my secret santa pressie today too! Decided to do some Christmas shopping as I was in town anyway. However, whether I get it dispatched anytime soon is another question entirely...

Gnitting that is beyond irritating. Are you renting at the moment or are you selling your current place? Would it make sense to rent for a while now instead of rushing into purchase of a place you're not wild about? Though hopefully the house tomorrow is a good one.

Cam sorry to hear you're having a shit day, hope your DH is home/gets home soon so you can have that much needed time out.

LovesToBake · 28/11/2013 17:59

Just heading home from a work event and if another person today raises their eyebrows and says something like "really, another 2 months? You look like you're due tomorrow" to me I might throttle them. Yes I've got a big bump, yes I'm bloody knackered and yes I wish the baby was due tomorrow but I have to schlep around with this weighty little number strapped to my front for some time yet so please people, back off! Aaaargh!

misskatamari · 28/11/2013 18:08

Sorry so many of you are knackered and feeling in pain Hmm Preggo joy!

Gnitting sorry to hear about the house too. Fingers crossed you like the house you are going to see! I don't think bedroom off yours would be a problem for the first few years.

Think we're gonna have to extend our hotel stay. It's okay so far and the workmen are doing really well at the house but b+q were total idiots saying they had stock when they didn't so it's taken a bit longer to get the tiles and wallpaper in. Looking good so far tho.

DH is working so much at the moment tho so I never bloody see him and it's a bit rubbish. We're hoping for a home birth and to use hypnobirthing and he's just never bloody here to read the book and do the practice and I'm starting to worry that he won't be ready and able to support me, which is a big part of hypnobirthing Hmm

I don't wanna moan at him as he's working ridiculous hours but this is bloody important and also the last time were gonna have to spend together just us for the next 20 years! Just hoping he gets to take a bit of a break soon which is unlikely as I think the project he's on finishes around February HmmHmmHmm.

Had a lovely day but feeling sorry for myself now. Think I need to go and have some tea and eat some cake and turn my frown upside down!

camwombat · 28/11/2013 18:08

Thanks, DH was home early and a trip to Sainsburys for milk has happened, along with mince pies. Dinner is reheating in the oven and I now have a mug of tea. Things have improved, I think an early night is also in order!

I was talking to someone at a toddler group yesterday before ds got into a proper fight with her ds who was 6 months pregnant, she has a tiny bump and I would maybe have put her at 4 months, it was still looking like she may just be a bit podgy. I felt like a whale next her.

CubanoHabana · 28/11/2013 19:13

Aw hubby has been given a national project, reporting to minister of employment, which is due to end feb. Dead proud of him, although will involve lots of travelling to London and no extra pay and worried he might be stuck there when I go into labour, as most likely will have to be in londonthe most in February when it's due to be rolled out...

Sorry for everyone still in pain, my ribs giving me problems too but not as bad as before.

I have 28 week mw appointment tomorrow, not sure whether I need anti-d as had it few weeks ago due to the bleeding I had...

Can't believe no one has been appointed for my job today - seriously they were all horrendous! The lesson I observed made me really worried for my classes!

Also, had car accident this time last dec, back was bad and didn't get better until summer, after rest over summer holiday (6 weeks of not driving 2 hours per day). But medical expert said it would be better after 4 months, so now wants to see me as it shouldn't have taken double the time as he reckons it was akin to a pulled muscle or sprain! Baring in mind he saw me in feb and didn't actually examine me! Saw physio up until summer, with extra sessions upon her recommendation... So annoyed, taking even longer to get compensation and basically feels like I have been accused of lying! Grr!

EeyoreIsh · 28/11/2013 19:19

But lovestobake you have a really neat bump! I think people have a skewed idea of what size bumps should be, and I've been surprised how much it varies from person to person.

missk that's annoying about your house. I hope it gets finished really soon. bloody b&q though, we were expecting a delivery of stuff for our house today, I'd naively assumed that when they offered us the next available delivery date and it was a Thursday, that it was this Thursday. nope, it's bloody 16 Jan Shock ! What a pisstake. I'm looking forward to making the call tomorrow!

marzipanned · 28/11/2013 19:25

misskat I can really empathise, DH is working like a lunatic at the moment - has at least one more long haul business trip before the end of the year and probably two, and when he's in the office he's working 11 hour days then more work at home and weekend. He's only taken two weeks of holiday this year and I'm trying to convince him to take a few days at Christmas...otherwise I feel like he'll burn out going from insane work business to insane new baby business. Also he was saying the other day he's not sure he'll be able to take paternity leave. I'm putting my foot down! I've given up on the idea of proper hypnobirthing as there's no way we'll get any practice done, plus he's a bit of a sceptic. But you can use the techniques yourself - the visualisation, breathing, etc, even if your DH isn't reading from exactly the same script as it were. Hopefully you and he will get a bit of time over Christmas period to practice together.

Cubano congrats to your DH! (And commiserations on the him being absent a lot front) That's awful about your job, the poor kids. But you mustn't feel responsible or guilty.

Bumps - there are a few women at my yoga class who really are ready to pop (38 weeks plus) and they do look genuinely huge. I think people just don't know what a full term pregnant tummy looks like! OTOH I was pleased to get my first "when's your baby due?" comment from a stranger the other day!

laura0007 · 28/11/2013 19:50

Shrops if I got a massive dildo in the post I would be very happy! Plus they don't get you pregnant do they!!!! Wink

camwombat · 28/11/2013 20:04

bloody hell, where on Earth are b&q getting what you ordered from?! and are they delivering it by boat? January really takes the mick.

Thingymajigs · 28/11/2013 20:10

Sorry to hear about the house gnitting. But having a room just off yours won't be an issue at all. Ds2 was permanently attached to me for 2 years so his nursery was completely useless.
That is very organised shrops. Shock Although I do have all of my other Christmas shopping done already.
Sorry to hear about everyone missing partners and those struggling with aches and pains too. And I am amazed that some of you are working and going abroad. I won't moan about a busy day again.
Anyone else noticing an increase in BH contractions? I'm not sure if it's the baby turning around or BH. You'd think I'd know being as this isn't my first pregnancy but I've obviously got a very short memory.

bugsyburge · 28/11/2013 20:18

ah I'm sorry you're suffering eyeore.... is it something you had pre pregnancy because I used to get it sometimes if I ate a large meal and then sat on a hard chair for a long time, ie out for dinner....it's such a horrible feeling; I've taken to sitting at my desk with my right arm in the air to stretch my rib out which helps a little but I look like a nutter!!!!

DawnOfTheDee · 28/11/2013 20:20

I am beyond tired. Woke up at 2.50am this morning and didn't manage to get back to sleep at all. I was like a zombie at work today. On the plus side I only have 7 days left at work which I fully intend to spend mooching about and spinning round in my chair. If anyone challenges me I shall sit on them.

A girl I work with brought her 7 week old baby into work today. He was sooo cute and squidgy but she said he now weighs 10lb 10oz....which is what DD1 weighed at birth. Argh....kind of brought it home what I'll be doing in 2 months time. Eek!

EeyoreIsh · 28/11/2013 20:52

bugsy no it's a special pregnancy thing! It started at about 16 weeks and has just got worse and worse. I did hurt my ribs when I had a bad cough last year, so not sure if that made me more susceptible.

I'm so ready to give up work. There's so much still to do but I'm exhausted. I still do get moments of loving my job though.

Going home to my parents this weekend. I'm really looking forward to seeing my nieces and baby nephew, and picking up the baby stuff my sister got for me. We're going to buy a car seat on the way home, so baby can at least get home if it arrives early!

jazzcat28 · 28/11/2013 21:49

cubano I'm not a teacher but feeling equally as disappointed with "the plan" for my cover at work. I am fully intending not to return to that project office when I go back to work so the people they have put in place (admin assistant + 2 days a week of a senior project manager) will have to manage the project from now until 2016 when it ends. Admin assistant is a robot where if you give a set of instructions she's fine, but thinking for herself is difficult. Senior PM is amazing but so busy and just had enough time to fit in half hour chat today and said it'd all be fine. Just hope that it doesn't go down the pan when I leave. But then again, I have to remind myself that the world won't end if it does! Hopefully your school will find a suitable replacement soon, even if cover staff are needed in the interim. But try not to feel guilty - it's not your fault all the good teachers are employed elsewhere!

Am struggling with secret santa ideas... might just go for novelty factor rather than usefulness factor!

Bought this book at the weekend and after an initial flick through it seems really good. It's written really honestly and I think cuts through a lot of the 'you must do this or else you're a crap parent' rubbish. Was particularly interested in the list of things to buy in advance - not only for baby and hospital bag but for sore boobs during bf and sore foof/bottom area post-birth! DH was Shock and worried about how we'd ever make DC2!!!

Almost time for 1st advent calendar choc ladies, which means on Sunday it's less than 9 weeks to go for some of you... and 5 of those will fly by with Christmas and NY in the way Smile
