Okay I don't like to run out of things, even threads, so here's the new one.

Can't remember who described their baby kicking like an octopus but it's very true :)

Hi mim. Ooh, bacon. I worked out that to get it properly crispy you need to bake it, and ate a lot of it for a while. Must do that again.

Arrghh... woke up last night with both my hips in agony from lying on bony bit on side on hard bed. Fuuuuuuuuu.

bugsyburge · 28/11/2013 07:56

random question but where did someone say did good non alcho mulled wine?

winterflowers · 28/11/2013 08:11

bugsy I feel like someone said ikea but that sounds incredibly random...

I don't get too much pain in bed Julietee, although being woken up by it sounds horrible Thanks What I do have a real problem with is getying out. The first standing up and couple of minutes are agony- does anyone else have this/knoe any tips to get round it?

sunflowered · 28/11/2013 08:16

Winter i'm sure my yoga teacher said to bring your knees together and bend them up towards your body, then roll them outwards to get out of bed - don't use your legs to propel you because that.puts more strain on back/hips. My pregnant brain can't remember the advice fully though - and it doesn't stop the feeling-like-an-80-yr-old feeling when I get to standing, just with the first part of the process Sad

EeyoreIsh · 28/11/2013 08:46

I've discovered that a really thick duvet underneath me reduces the sore hips in the night. Any tips for sore ribs? I might be going for strong painkillers by the end of the day.

I'm really starting to feel the effect of the bump. Had to have a little sit down after my shower and before breakfast this morning! It's a different and new kind of tiredness.

misskatamari · 28/11/2013 09:12

Preggo insomnia sucks! I was awake for ages again at about 3 this morning.

Bugsy - ikea definitely do non-alco mulled wine. I haven't tried but but do recall someone on here saying it was nice.

Eeyore sorry your ribs are still really sore Hmm must be horrible. Definitely no more work trips for you!!!!

Tried to resist the cooked breakfast today and failed. Now I feel rather sick. Must try and eat some fruit today. Baby needs vitamins!!!

LovesToBake · 28/11/2013 09:31

Hi mim - welcome!

I am horribly behind on this thread. That'll teach me for having 4 blissful wifi-free days at Center Parcs with DS and DH over the weekend. I don't know where to start!

28 weeks today and had a really nice midwife check up yesterday. All measuring bang on for my dates and apparently the baby is 'happy and healthy' judging by the way she moved in response to the doppler being prodded into her and the runaway train heartbeat that the midwife eventually managed to locate! Most excitingly I finish work 3 weeks today and not counting holiday/working from home days, I only have 8 more days in the office I think. I am so unbelievably exhausted - even a small flight of stairs has me gasping for breath and light-headed these days. Every fibre in my body is telling me to get nesting, put my feet up and focus on family/domestic matters.

Oh, and I'm still violently puking most mornings. This morning was after I stepped out of the shower - and yet again involved a pelvic floor fail. Urgh.

Julietee · 28/11/2013 09:47

Misskat There are totally vitamins in a cooked breakfast :)

jazzcat28 · 28/11/2013 09:55

mim welcome to the club! We are a chatty bunch so you will find this thread might actually disappear in the next few days (already at >900 posts this morning!)

Our nursery furniture is being delivered on Saturday, I can't wait to start putting all the baby's things in there. Am really feeling the nesting urge. Last night ordered some Pampers and am now panicking about blankets. Trying to resit urge to buy some before Christmas as we may just get some as gifts and possibility of gift vouchers too.

Lovestobake my countdown says I have 29 days of work left but taking out my working at home days it's only 20 days! Hurrah! Wel jel of those of you who are stopping work in December. Must think of the money when I'm dragging myself up the motorway in January...

sunflowered · 28/11/2013 09:56

Don't forget the protein in your cooked breakfast - bumps need protein!

I'm starting to notice my bump now - keep walking into things because I haven't clocked how big it isBlush Also tireness has ramped up - same level of busy-ness at work and home backed up with same amount of sleep ie not enough but people are starting to say i look really tired instead of really well Sad

On the plus side (tmi alert) after months of being extremely sluggish in the digestion department, things are suddenly working extremely well. I never thought being regular would be such a novelty. Fingers crossed this is going to persist through the whole trimester in my dreams

My weeks counter app told me today that the baby's lungs are now mature enough to work in the outside world - hadn't really thought about that as a milestone before, but now I know it's a really reassuring feeling Smile

marzipanned · 28/11/2013 10:08

Welcome mim!

Eeyore I actually do have a tip for sore ribs! This came from my yoga class last night. Okay...will try to explain this so it makes sense...

Lie on your back with a pillow underneath your spine length ways (so your whole back is raised). Put your legs in a sort of diamond position - knees out on the side, feet together. Put your arms up over your head and sort of shift yourself around until you get a good stretch in your ribs.

Hope that works somehow?!

Winter which part of you is hurting when you get up? I find my bump is really sore when I first get out of bed - it's a bit like those growing pains earlier on in the pregnancy.

Loves so glad you had a lovely time at Center Parcs. I hope you exercised caution in the rapids though :) Ugh, morning puke and pelvic floor fail is the worst way to start the day. Is there any way of getting the puke over before you get out of bed? I've actually been puke free the last few days but I got to a point where I found the least awful way of dealing with it was to puke in a bowl while still in bed holding tissues against myself for the leakage. Oh, the glamour.

Our nearest Ikea is about a hundred miles away. Darn.

marzipanned · 28/11/2013 10:13

Forgot to mention - misskat our Arms Reach arrived, I haven't unpacked it yet but the box weighs an absolute TON. Not sure how it's also going to function as a travel cot?!

Someone else coming to quote for the carpet tomorrow so I have high (unrealistic?!) hopes that the nursery will be finished by next weekend and maybe, maybe, maybe even the sitting room (if we are incredibly lucky). I certainly hope so as PILs and BIL are coming to stay that weekend and as things currently stand we might all be in one bed together!!

The boiler also seems to be having issues with providing hot water and hot radiators at the same time - nooooooo...

bugsyburge · 28/11/2013 10:34

could I possibly bother the resident HR guru?

champsI've had my mat pay confirmed at just standard govt issue.... is there a set rate of tax/NI I would pay on this? also would I need to continue paying ny student loan?

thank yoooou x

Julietee · 28/11/2013 10:39

Has anyone decided about baby showers yet?
My mum wants to do one for me if I want it, and I've decided I want DH there and male friends/ relatives welcome. No daft games or presents mandatory (though obviously nice if bought!).

bugsyburge · 28/11/2013 10:40

eyeore im also really struggling with my ribs, my right hand side is incredibly painful and the only way to relieve it is to lie down. I asked the mw and all she said was go to the doctors if it becomes unbearable Hmm

jazzcat28 · 28/11/2013 11:00

julie my baby shower is already in the diary! It will be mid Jan the weekend after I stop work (at 36wks). It's being organised and hosted by a dear friend who doesn't know it yet but is very likely to be asked to be a Godparent, and seems to be a girls thing only at the moment. I won't be getting my mum / MIL here for it as they each live 3hrs away. I've gently suggested that I'm keen people don't feel pressured to buy gifts so close to Christmas and I think it's going to be an afternoon tea type thing with silly games.

winterflowers · 28/11/2013 11:06

Julietee I really don't want a baby shower as hate being centre of attention. So am trying to avoid it if possible! Although I do like the idea of including men in it, tis a good plan

It's my hips and lower back that hurt, maybe it's just the initial having to take the weight.of my cake baby bump...

Sounds like a wonderful weekend loves although sorry to hear abt the sickness. Pelvic floor for ails are traumatic. On the count of three ladies SQUUUUUUUEEZE

LovesToBake · 28/11/2013 11:09

marzi I was very good and steered clear of the rapids. In fact only DH could go down as DS is too young and I'm too preggers, so we sent him down to test it out on our behalf! Interestingly I didn't puke the whole time we were at CP and felt a lot brighter but now we're home and I'm in the office today it started back up. There is no doubt in my mind that it's linked to stress/anxiety in some way. My preferred puking spot is sitting on the loo puking into DS's potty - no leakages to deal with that way, just didn't make it in time this morning sadly!

Also, that yoga stretch sounds like something we do at normal yoga with a couple of blocks under the middle of your back. It really opens up your chest and lungs and stretches your ribs, it's lovely!

MissKat I'm horribly behind on this thread but I see you're now at the hotel. How's the house fixing coming along and how long do you think you'll be hotel-bound?

LovesToBake · 28/11/2013 11:11

Oh and Julietee I won't be having a baby shower. Didn't have one first time around, just made an effort to gather a few key groups of girlfriends together in the last month of pregnancy which was lovely as I knew I would be off the radar socially for a while. No presents or anything - had one group of friends over for lunch and another group over for afternoon tea but don't see myself even bothering with anything like that this time. Will definitely make an effort to catch up with friends in Jan when I'm on maternity leave though.

Littleen · 28/11/2013 11:12

I've taken to do a "sit up" thing when waking up, I basically lie flat and just sit straight up, not using my pelvis at all :P sounds weird but doesnt hurt so much!

So I had a small scar on my stomach from an operation, and it has now merged together to form a harry potter lightning scar on my tummy! looks rather hilarious! :P

gnittinggnome · 28/11/2013 11:17

Am desperately jealous of you all prepping nurseries! The seller has withdrawn the house we put an offer on, so we're back to square one, 4 months down the line. Am very, very cross - if he hadn't got his mortgage sorted out he shouldn't have put the bloody place on the bloody market! So now we're back registering with agents, and hearing some of them laugh when I mention our budget and the words "family home" in the same sentence makes me wish an unfortunate disfigurement on them... However, I'm going to look at a house in the apparently rough part of town with 2/3 bedrooms tomorrow, and this brings me to my point in posting here (beyond ranting!) - the "3rd" bedroom is off one of the main bedrooms. Am I being daft in thinking that a baby's room off our own bedroom is actually not a bad idea? Not for long long term, but for the first couple of years, until we maybe go into the loft for a proper 3rd bedroom. Experienced parents, what do you think?

LovesToBake · 28/11/2013 11:24

Gnitting I don't think that would be a bad idea at all. It's not really any different to having the baby in the room next door anyway is it? It's not like the baby will need to get up to go to the loo in the night and traipse past you and your DH waking you up. Plus for the first 6 months or so when you can reasonably expect night feeds/wakings, you won't have far to stumble to deal with them. I suppose when they get past 12 months and are more self-sufficient, I quite like the fact that DS is currently at the back of the house and our room is at the front, so his random night shouts which I think are a result of dreams/nightmares don't disturb us too much and similarly if we're chatting or I have to cough or something, I'm not worried about disturbing him. Good luck!

Littleen · 28/11/2013 12:42

gnitting sorry to hear the house fell through! Silly timing that :(
Some friends of mine have their 3rd bedroom off the main one, and it works fine for them, atleast for a few years :)

Sassy20 · 28/11/2013 12:59

It seems to be a day for tiredness. My dd was up at 3, 6 and 6.45 this morning. Managed to persuade her to get into bed with me - lucky dh had gone to work - and we went to sleep for an hour. Feel knackered today and will def be having a nap when she does - fortunately Thursday and Friday are my days off work. X

Sassy20 · 28/11/2013 13:00

Forgot to say Gnitting sorry about the house. It should be like Scotland were if someone pulls out of sale late on there's a financial penalty. X
