OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I find johnsons wipes pretty harsh on my skin so wouldn't use on a baby/toddler (ditto their toiletries). We like own brand unfragranced or huggies pure (can normally get for £1 a pack or cheaper at pound land/lidl). Will generally use whatever is on offer if unfragranced and never pay more than £1 a pack as there are offers almost all the time on one brand or another.

I think I'll start with cotton wool because I have sensitive skin but will move to wipes pretty quickly if baby has dh/dd hardier skin. I took two small plastic beakers to use as t&t bowl when having dd.

Sold my single pushchair today so very happy.

frying let me know how the gro clock works out. DD woke at 4.30, then would only sleep on the floor whilst I watched from the rocking chair. Normally I wouldn't put up with it but she's had a fever and needs the sleep so can't bring myself to do tough love. DH is in charge at the weekend though and he is much less sympathetic.

fryingpantoface · 13/11/2013 14:32

No idea what's wrong with them, she was just against them.
Loads of people use them and find them totally fine, we get our wipes through Amazon, they deliver some every 2 months. It's £10 for 12 packs.

enormouse · 13/11/2013 15:05

Wrt wipes I use asdas little angels unfragranced and they seem to be ok on DSs excema prone skin. I took in a carry pack of pampers size 1 and they were plenty for the 3-4 days I was in.

I've just come back from my 30wk appointment and bubs seems well, slightly on the large side and very lively. He also decided to expose an enormous pair of testicles which puts paid to my secret irrational fear of buying all boy things and then being presented with a little girl.

Unfortunately, my thalassemia issue is still not resolved and I had another blood test done for further iron studies as my full blood count missed out iron and hb.

flying glad to hear you and baby are well

Btw, I'm not sure who mentioned mulled wine - sorry! but ikea do a lovely alcohol free mulled wine in both Apple and traditional flavour. I've bought a bottle and will pick up some more closer to Christmas. It's about £1.50. Now going to relax with some mince pies, a cup of tea and some new magazines. Smile.

fryingpantoface · 13/11/2013 15:20

my mom is buying me the cot we want. Kiddicare have got 20% off and if you buy a cot, you get the mattress for 50% off. So we're going for the space saver cot. She's getting it for me tomorrow, she's so nice!

She said it was because I remind her of herself when she was pregnant with her second. My brother was due on Christmas day and he came on 23 Nov, so a month early, and she had nothing sorted for him because she had a toddler at home.

Crazily, although he was 4 weeks early, she was in hospital with him only 5 days. That was the regular length of time for 2nd children.

AnotherStitchInTime · 13/11/2013 15:35

Both of my girls have eczema and came out in awful nappy rashes when I used fragranced wipes. Dd1 couldn't tolerate excessive use of sensitive wipes either right up until she potty trained, so I used the large cotton pads and loo roll. Dd2 seems ok so long as you wipe off the skin with a wet cotton pad afterwards and don't use wipes if she has the teething poos (runny belly, lots of nappy changes).

Good times hear baby is well enormouse, slightly shocked at your hospital not being more proactive regarding your thalassemia before now.

Glad all is well fly :)

enormouse · 13/11/2013 16:04

It's completely and utterly ridiculous another especially as it was flagged up in my first pg (and came back negative) more than 2 years ago. But as I'm the one getting stressed about it, I'm just going to let it go and start taking an iron supplement whilst they faff about waiting for their results with their heads up their arses.

Thats so lovely of your mum frying. I really hope to be in and out with number 2, can't bear the thought of being away from DS for too long.

enormouse · 13/11/2013 16:12

Keep forgetting to ask this:
Are mums with older kids packing a present from the baby to the older child in their bags? If so what are you thinking of giving?

fryingpantoface · 13/11/2013 16:50

we are. We're gonna bring something Thomas the Tank engine related I think.

DH has said we should call the baby Henry. My son loves his Henry take n play engine thing, only he calls it Horry. So DH thinks we should call the baby Henry knowing that everyone would call him Horry, which is kinda cute

OnlyThePurpleOnes · 13/11/2013 17:18

frying that's so cute Smile bless your DS. Better that Bluebell, which is what DD is gunning for Hmm.

enormouse DD is getting a set of tinkerbell figures from her little sister when she arrives. I've had them stuffed in the present cupboard for a while now.

I got my glucose test results at my 30 week check on Tuesday and got a borderline for Gestational diabetes. Sad they followed up with another test to determine if I would have to do the finger pricky business. I just got the results for that today which are clear, thank jaysus, so I just have to cut down on some of the sugar in my diet and should be fine. I've been a bit crap recently, and so busy with work, I've been throwing snickers bars in my face like no tomorrow. Since I found out I've been on a guilt-induced vegetable binge and have been avoiding sugar like the plague, which will be fine until the first christmas selection box enters the house! I also had a quick scan and got to see little one, who has hair! I can't wait to meet her...

Hope everyone else is managing ok.

Naturegirl82 · 13/11/2013 17:51

Had whopping cough vaccination today and saw gp about wrist. It's carpal tunnel syndrome. I don't have tingly hands at the moment but apparently it might develop. Never mind.

So as I was home early thought I would take the pooch for a walk in the light for once. Did thr usual pocket pat down for keys, phone etc. Got outside, shut front door and tried to lock it to discover back door keys in my pocket! Doh! So been on an extra long walk and I just can't walk anymore so now sat on doorstep waiting for Dh to get home. How stupid! You have to laugh though haha Smile

Naturegirl82 · 13/11/2013 17:52

Will now spend remainder of my wait catching up on the thread Grin

Sultanajo · 13/11/2013 18:14

Oh no nature! At least u have pooch for company. We have all been there!

purple thats a relief u only need to make dietary changes. Phew!

another glad its viral and nothing more serious!

Interesting discussion on wipes. I was gonna get water wipes which all the girls who came to talk to us at the nct class swore by....was getting worried I would get told off by the midwife, but honestly cotton wool and water seems such a faff and so impractical!

Waiting drumming my fingers patiently for DH to get home as we are treating ourselves to indian takeaway tonight.... Heartburn is really playing up so really wanna eat asap!

Sultanajo · 13/11/2013 18:16

frying Horry! Grin So cute!

enormouse how frustrating for you! Its never simples is it?

fly glad you are back out and everything is looking good.

HumptyDumptyBumpty · 13/11/2013 18:28

Can't remember a single thing, except that you are all lovely and deserve hugs and medals.
No internet at home yet, and induction of maternity cover person means I can't mumsnet from work hardly AT ALL

He is nearly trained though, so I can MN and do nothing relax a little and hand over all more of the work to him. Grin

Promise to come and catch up then.

TarkaTheOtter · 13/11/2013 18:45

We're getting dd a doll and dolls bed from the baby. She's quite in to dolls and I'm worried she'll adopt the babies Moses basket as their bed.
Glad your gtt was clear only

Spacefrog35 · 13/11/2013 18:49

Just thought I'd drop in with Brew & Cake

Hopefully it will keep you warm while you wait for DH nature Grin

Sultanajo · 13/11/2013 18:51

Lol humpty! Great you can hand stuff over now!

Further work stress this week and have had to really support my replacement who has had a real baptism of fire this week poor lass. However, if she can handle the shit from this week she can handle anything and its my last day tomorrow which I cant believe! Grin

extracrunchy · 13/11/2013 19:01

Haha Nature how annoying!! I do that about twice a week and managed to do it 3 times in the space of a few weeks when DS was tiny and recently weaned onto formula. Naturally it was bottle time every time and we had to go shopping for emergency supplies and wait in a cafe as it was raining. I'm a massive airhead!

Enormouse baby sister is bringing DS a toy horsey - everyone we know who's had two said present made a huge difference. Also apparently when older DC arrive to meet new baby we should go and greet them and take them to the baby, rather than holding baby and being an established unit older DC has to infiltrate. Makes sense to me!
Also so annoying re your bloods...

Another glad to hear it's nothing serious with DD - though no less sad for her and hard work for you. Hope she picks up quickly.

Fly glad you're out and all's well!

I definitely second enormouse on Asda Little Angels unscented wipes - in fact their nappies are also ace. The only ones that never leaked for us and far better value than big brands!

Got some raspberry leaf tea today - had a cup with honey earlier. It's really nice and I don't like herbal yea usually! However, have had loads and loads of BH since. Hope that's normal!?

extracrunchy · 13/11/2013 19:02

Oh and Only glad GTT was clear Smile

Swannykazoo · 13/11/2013 19:13

Anyone else got massive cankles? I looked down at my feet in my standard fit flops at work today and got the shock of my life. Even nicer when I took my feet out and there were huge dents where the straps sit.
Tonight I will be sitting with my feet up
Good to hear nappies come in sizes - I can prepare myself for supermarket panic-buyingorganisation soon...

extracrunchy · 13/11/2013 19:27

Haha Puggle nappies come in lots of sizes - teeny tiny up to big chunk toddler! There's a world of excitement waiting for you at the supermarket Grin

TobyLerone · 13/11/2013 20:58

Good to know re the Asda wipes.

Sultana, don't be scared of the midwives! Don't forget it's your baby and you don't have to do what they tell you :)

MrsGSR · 13/11/2013 22:07

I've packed cotton wool pads in the baby's bag, but I have wet wipes in mine (someone suggested a flannel for keeping cool in labour and I figured wet wipes would be easier, and can use them to freshen up) so I can use them if cotton wool is too much hassle.

I might ring up and see there's any spaces left on the classes, thanks to those who suggested it :)

I really enjoyed the Red Cross baby and child first aid course, but admittedly I did already know a lot of it. The instructor was really great though and gave me a lot of confidence so hopefully I won't dither if we do have an emergency!

sarahleanne · 13/11/2013 22:36

I apologise ladies I cannot remember anything that's been said but I just wanted to say SHIT my arm hurts Shock. The nurse gave me flu jab in my left arm and whooping cough in my right arm yesterday and today the whooping cough arm has swelled up like a big red itchy egg!! DH has been sent away and thought I was exaggerating so I sent him a lovely photo haha. He understands my pain now Grin.

You have all made me nervous talking about hospital bags. I havn't bought anything for mine atall and wasn't planning on it until I go on maternity leave at 34 weeks Blush.

sorry jut a quick one tonight, was popping in to moan about my sore arm mainly Grin

I hope everyone is ok, I kind of just scanned through rather than properly reading as my eyes are sooo tired.

TobyLerone · 13/11/2013 22:56

How odd, sarah. The nurse told me that if either one was likely to give you a sore arm it would be the flu one. You poor thing :(

I haven't packed anything yet either, if it makes you feel any better! I think I've got most of it now, but I'm not packing til after my scan at 35 weeks.
