Ladies,

Hope you're all asleep and the DCs settled down in the end.

I am finding it really hard to get comfortable tonight. Have a revolting head cold, squirming bump and sore hips.

percy is having a nightmare with her access to posting on here at the moment and is talking to the MN techies to get it sorted but wanted to let space know she was thinking of you last Thurs and is glad it all went well.

I am now sat up in bed catching up with you all whilst sounding like Darth Vadar. Luckily DH is in the spare room so I don't have to worry about waking him up with my snotty noises.

flyawayblue · 13/11/2013 08:02

Hope everyone with bedtime routine problems had a better night.

Sultana starting to wish I had signed up for NCT now :) sounds like you had a lovely time.

MrsVDB oh if you could scan or write up the list that would be lovely, starting to think I need to be organised on the hospital bag front.

I've taken the day off today as I still have constant low level pain, with really sharp stabby bits if I move wrong. Going to relax on the sofa with MN and netflix. Don't think it's BH as my bump doesn't tighten when they happen and curtain movements are just a no no or omg owe!

Frizz1986 · 13/11/2013 08:20

sultana glad that you had a good time. Its our last nct tonight (except for our postnatal ones) and i am really sad that they will be over.

mac sorry you have a crappy head cold. Def relaxation time is required.

fly you should call the midwife about all the pains. I think they like to know about anything like that at this stage. Its probably nothing but better that your mind can relax knowing that all is ok.

I had a total hospital bag meltdown last night and i don't know why. Total heavy breathing almost to a panic attack! I just freaked out that i hadn't finished it and where was i going to get a cheap thin dressing gown and cheap slippers as they are all so expensive and we just cant afford it and time is going so fast..... I think it was more of a freak out thinking that this baby is almost here and are we actually ready for it.

On a positive my boss was speaking to the girl who will be covering some of my work during mat leave (finally) and the girl said that she would really like to start doing everything before i go so that she can figure out how to fit things in and what she has time to do. So nice to know that she wants to be prepared, just wish my boss had spoken to her sooner as she has probably been wanting to suggest it for a while.
It means that yesterday i passed some of my work over to her to try and at the start of Dec they will tell all our customers that I am leaving and to contact her instead so things should get a lot quieter for me. Yay.

BookTart · 13/11/2013 08:55

I'm having minor hospital bag panic as well frizz. If I put a pack of nappies and a pack of wipes in the baby's changing bag (the free Boots one), then there is no room for clothes. If I put two packs of maternity pads in my holdall then there is definitely no room for anything else. Either I need larger bags or I'll have to reorganise and put most of the bulky stuff in the car in case I need it later.

I am knackered too angelesque. I stupidly agreed to meet my mum in London and go shopping on Oxford Street yesterday. I feel like I could sleep for a week now!

I may have had minor words with DH yesterday because he is so completely disinterested in all things baby related. I asked if he could maybe choose some toys and a baby gym for her, but he said he's not interested in those things. Bit late to change your mind now sunshine!

fly those pains sound horrible. Probably worth calling your midwife just to make sure I reckon.

flyawayblue · 13/11/2013 09:23

Started to feel worse, dizzy and sick, so rang the midwives. Had to leave a message as they were busy but they will call back.

TobyLerone · 13/11/2013 09:26

Frizz, Matalan and Primark both have cheap, thin dressing gowns and slippers.

Sorry your DH is being disinterested, Book. I don't even know what you could do to try to make him give a toss.

TobyLerone · 13/11/2013 09:26

Ugh, fly. That sounds horrid. Poor you :(

fryingpantoface · 13/11/2013 10:04

Morning all

Finally sucummbed and got ds a gro clock. Cue a massive temper tantruma t 5.15 this morning because I wouldn't let him into our bed. It lasted until the sun on his bloody clock turned up at 6.30. Not much sleep at ours!

The baby didn't move much yesterday but it moving more today which is good. My mom has made me a wall hanging to for the baby's room (i've put a pic in my profile) which is lovely. And i'm working today until 12. Such fun!

BookTart · 13/11/2013 10:17

That's so pretty frying!

Yeah toby it does suck but I think it is the Aspergers as usual. I'm sure he'll be okay once she's here. And if he isn't, he can move into his shed :)

fly hope you feel better soon. Sounds bloody horrible you poor thing.

Sultanajo · 13/11/2013 10:22

mac hope you got some sleep in the end. Poor Darth Vader you!

blue oh no! Maybe u have caught a bug? Absolutely the right thing to call for advice. Hope they come back to you soon!

I too have been having hospital bag panics - mainly because I havent started sorting them....Shock Have persuaded DH to go with me to kiddicare to get the last bits I think we will need at the weekend....I think hearing about everything the other couples were talking about last night encouraged him... He was also back on top form last night too - so good to see him relax and have a laugh. Grin

Sultanajo · 13/11/2013 10:24

book grrrr! Perhaps he will feel differently once bubs is actually here?

MrsGSR · 13/11/2013 10:29

Hope you feel better soon fly

Other than nighties, which I still haven't bought, my hospital bag is pretty much done. Mainly because I'm really struggling to get to sleep at night so I've been up at 2am packing it! i'm not so organised with other things though, I never got around to booking onto a NHS or NCT course, and I think it's probably too late now!

MrsVDB · 13/11/2013 10:41

mrsg I haven't booked nct and only booked nhs 2 weeks ago so I'd give them a ring to see.

I did the Red Cross baby and child first aid course the last 2 evenings. Both dh and I have done the first aid at work course before and only a couple of bits are adapted so not hugely useful. They do have a good app though that's worth downloading

MrsVDB · 13/11/2013 10:43

30 weeks today! 3/4 of the way there!!!! It's gone too fast. After finding primark didn't have the bag I imagined I have made no progress with hospital bag but figure as long as its done by 36w ill be ok. dh usually packs bags for me anyway so not too worried if he has to this time

flyawayblue · 13/11/2013 11:11

Thanks for all the good wishes. In mau being checked out, hooked up to monitors all over but they seem happy with babies heart beat so that's good Smile

fryingpantoface · 13/11/2013 11:39

Good luck fly

AnotherStitchInTime · 13/11/2013 11:43

Glad you are ok fly, you were right to get checked out x

Took dd2 to the docs this morning as she was pulling her ears and saying "hurts" and she coughed up some green gunk. Luckily it seems to be viral and teething related, no sign of infection.

My hospital bag is in the process of being repacked again as I fear I will be back in sooner rather than later.

With the baby stuff, you can just pack a handful of nappies (six should do you, they don't poo/wee that often until your milk comes in) and a small bag of cotton wool plus two vests, two sleepsuits and a hat and then your DH/DP can bring stuff in if you need more. No need to pack lots as if you have an uncomplicated birth you could be out the next day once all the paediatrician and hearing checks are done. If you are having a c-section you will need 2-3 days worth of stuff for the baby minimum. You could always leave a pack of newborn nappies and extra baby clothes in your car too if you have one.

GummiBear74 · 13/11/2013 11:43

Glad you're getting checked out, flyaway, hope everything's ok.

MrsG we had to switch to a different NCT course just a couple of weeks ago (not enough people signed up for the original one). It's for Jan & Feb due dates and is in the middle of Dec, so you might still be able to get on something similar?

Book, I'm a little worried about fitting everything for the baby into a bag as well! I have a list from the hospital that includes a top & tail bowl (I have NEVER seen this on a list before) and a large bag of cotton wool balls (with large emphasised)! How I'm going to get nappies in as well as those, I don't know!

My sympathies to everyone who's feeling a bit weary, especially those with toddlers (I take my hat off to you, I don't know how you do it!). Luckily I have enough holidays left that I don't have to work any more full weeks, so I'm at home trying to take it easy today. Very chuffed because the box of alcohol-free booze I ordered has just arrived. Don't know whether any of it will be any good, but I've got some fizz for Xmas and new year, plus some mulled wine substitute. Cheers! Wine

GummiBear74 · 13/11/2013 11:49

Glad it's not serious with dd, another, sounds like you could do with a break from hospitals and doctors.

Good point on the nappies - I have two 4-packs of free ones from Aldi, so that should be enough, I guess? They won't take up much space. The very helpful hospital list says that you need enough for 8 per day, then very unhelpfully doesn't tell you how many days to plan for Confused

AnotherStitchInTime · 13/11/2013 12:19

The hospital have those cardboard sick bowls that can be used for warm water then thrown away, you don't need a top and tail bowl.

AnotherStitchInTime · 13/11/2013 12:23

Oh and I use large cotton pads instead of cotton balls, a pack of those takes up much less space than a bag of cotton balls. Asda do the best deal 2 packs of 100 for £2.50.

flyawayblue · 13/11/2013 12:23

Out with instructions to rest and lots of pain killers. Lovely to see her heart beat on the ticker tape and the staff were lovely. I have a scan booked in for next Wednesday and am to go back before then if it gets any worse or I'm worried.

All this talk of hospital bags and being one floor down from the delivery sweet today means I will probably spend this afternoon making bag lists Smile.

fryingpantoface · 13/11/2013 13:44

I packed a whole carry bag set of nappied (27) because we ended up staying in 3 days last time. We originally took 5 with us and DS obviously pees more than expected so had to change him a lot. The hospital ended up giving us more. I'm not taking cotton wool, we're just taking wet wipes. The hospital were great about it last time, although all the midwives told us to avoid Johnsons babywipes, the pink ones, like the plague. Which is why they also ended up giving us Pampers Sensitive wipes - We've used those ever since.

MrsVDB · 13/11/2013 14:08

frying what's wrong with the pink wipes? I've spent about £70 stocking up on wipes with an ocado deal they had. I bought a mix and got some water wipes for first few days and also lots of pampers sensitive but I got some pink ones too

Also what size nappies are you all taking? I've bought mostly the 2nd size (1 I think?) but I suppose I should take 1st size to hospital?

TobyLerone · 13/11/2013 14:09

I'm taking wipes too. When I had DS, I used cotton wool like a good girl. When I had DD, I took wipes. The midwife in hospital tried to tell me I should be using cotton wool and water. I told her that if she'd like to try to get the tar meconium off DD's bum with a wet cotton wool ball she could be my guest!

She left me to it :o
