Wow I'm very impressed with all these hospital bags being packed! I'm 30 weeks and still have loads to get, surely I've got plenty of time?
Feeling totally knackered the past few days and its back to work tomorrow (am a teacher, been off for half term) so enjoyed lots of rest but sleep hasn't quite scratched the surface of my exhaustion!
Hoping I'll get another surge of energy before I get too heavy so I can get the last few bits sorted
Good sunday all!

AnotherStitchInTime · 03/11/2013 12:09

gummi unless you have a huge baby you will get a good number of weeks out of 0-3 months. My 8lber was in 0-3 months from 2 weeks old to around the 3 month mark.

Good news about all the shopping. We are mostly sorted except for electric breast bump (mine has broken grrr) and nappy changing stuff. When you see all the stuff set up it suddenly becomes more real somehow.

GummiBear74 · 03/11/2013 13:47

Thanks another, I think I'll go for the 0-3 months.

juliet, I thought the same, but so many people mentioned getting the bag ready that even DH started to get nervous about it (he's leaving everything else to me, but I think he's terrified of having to do the bag himself if things happen early). So far nothing's packed as such, it's gradually accumulating in heaps on the spare bed!

MrsGSR · 03/11/2013 14:43

Do we need to get any newborn size or can they usually go straight into 0-3? I think I've asked before but I can't remember :s

I plan to pack my hospital bag at 32 weeks, so in 2 weeks time. I'm still putting things off! We were given a moses basket but don't have a pram or a cot. I'll start buying stuff after my birthday at the end of the month :)

BuntCadger · 03/11/2013 14:57

Hey everyone :)

Is anyone else suffering? I feel like I've been kicked by a horse in my nether regions and doing anything is hard going. I did housework this morning, led down with dd for her snow and almost in tears with the throbbing pain. I'm 30 weeks tomorrow.

Re bag, not packed but dh nagged me about it.

Got to write up birth plan, want delayed cord clamping, consultant phoned me re this and fully supports it and in his opinion it should be standard practice, he also apologised for the care that I got last time.

Also need to get dd out of cot, going to get a crib from ebay so baby goes into that before cot. I do have a misses basket (it's 46 years old now!) and will be used downstairs for naps in daytime.

Ordered 10 little lamb nappies which are on special 10 for £50 , on size fits all. Got 5 yellow and 5 orange so gender neutral. They come either 2 bamboo boosters so will be fab. Already use reusables with dd but first time trying from newborn. If they are too big I'll use disposables for first few weeks. Kids have been 8lb12, 8lb14 and 9lb3 so I expect they'll fit.

Still not sorted pushchair, will hopefully use sling at first but we have a lovely bugaboo gecko with pram part, but can't see how to use with a 2 year old in tow.

MrsGSR · 03/11/2013 15:02

Bunt I've written in my plan is like them to cut the cord only after its stopped pulsating, is that the same as delayed clamping? I'm completely clueless!

MrsGSR · 03/11/2013 15:02

*I'd like, not is like

Naturegirl82 · 03/11/2013 15:14

bunt where did you see the nappies on offer? I'm still trying to decide which ones to go with.

BuntCadger · 03/11/2013 15:17

Yup MrsG, usually takes about 3 minutes. The consultant said once placenta comes away there is no benefit in his opinion (I think that's lotus birth where they keep placenta attached to cried and let's it fall off by itself). Obviously if baby needed medical interventions then that's the priority. He said that majority of midwives at RHCH delay cutting for about 2 mins already as routine,

BuntCadger · 03/11/2013 15:21

Nature girl, it's only through little lambs facebook page. They've also got bamboo breast pads on offer too, 20 for price of 10, they're really soft. And extra lack of bamboo boosters for £8. They've got lots of colours, but they don't do the patterns, which I love. Ill get some like that from pixie pants after baby arrives as I have lots already but many are girl themed.

The OSFA on offer are pocket nappies, so no wraps, you stuff the nippy with booster (1 should be fine for newborn) and pop either disposable liner (you lift and flush) or washable between nappy and baby's bottom. Really simple and I wish I'd done it for all of mine.

Bluecarrot · 03/11/2013 16:19

Just beware that the little lambs OSFA suits best from 10lbs up. I got the two part system from LL but might be using muslinz and prefolds at the very start, with motherease wraps.

And I concur on the softness of the nursing pads! Considering them, though it was recommended I get the 13cm due to boob size, and I only see 11cm in the offer. Cant decide if that 2cm can really make that much of a difference!

GummiBear74 · 03/11/2013 16:21

Doh! I just bought two packs of little lambs breast pads at full price! I'm the only person in the whole world who isn't on Facebook, so I didn't see the offers. I agree that they're very soft!

I got two trial nappy packs, bamboo and microfibre. The plan is to start with disposables and give those two a try at some point before committing to buy loads of them. My sister told me they're very good though, and they wash at 40 degrees, so not too bad for the environment.

babycakemumma · 03/11/2013 16:59

Ill check out the little lamb breast pads thanks, I usually use boots washable breast pads.

Just popping in to say hi, I don't get in here much really- not since fb took over the world. I hope all bumps and mums are well.

Plodding along here at 29 weeks with spd. Tired and feeling the third trimester. Not sorted a pram yet but I will and my bags half packed. Excited about baby but not completely believing I'm having another yet. I think I'm trapped in some weird denial about going through labour again (this'll be the fifth time lol). I think I deserve this one delivered by a stork! Shock

BuntCadger · 03/11/2013 17:03

Blue, breast pads seem fine on size to me and I'm quite large (j). The OSFA are from 9lb up as I asked them before about it. Mine are little fatties so I'm ok with that.

BuntCadger · 03/11/2013 17:04

Babycakes - wow at 5th labour! This is my 4th and in denial. Sympathy for SPD, have a feeling that's what's going on here. Bloody hurts.

lovelilies · 03/11/2013 17:17

What's this about delaying cord clamping? what are the benefits... I've never heard of it Blush

BuntCadger · 03/11/2013 17:28

Lovelies - def worth a google search, there is a NHS cochrane study. It is beneficial as when baby is born the umbilical cord transfers a boost of immunities etc to baby, so if clamped too early it stops it going to baby. They early clamping was started (as I understand) due to a false fear that the medication administered to the mother during childbirth could be limited from transferring to baby.

MrsGSR · 03/11/2013 18:03

Thanks Bunt, I vaugly remember my cousin posting a study on Facebook, I'll have to have a little search.

flyawayblue · 03/11/2013 18:12

I've been thinking of delayed clamping too but haven't even started writing my birth plan or packing my hospital bag.

Had a lovely day visiting family as my cousins are both back from uni for the weekend. Also ordered stone baby bits in the mothercare sale, all getting concerningly real!

We have an odd problem as we're getting a lot of things second hand from J's family - my family are feeling left out and want to know what to get us. How much does a baby need? And does anyone have any ideas of good things to suggest? Not helped by my close family being split into 3 groups so need a few things or areas to suggest.

Angelesque · 03/11/2013 18:57

We've ordered our travel system and car seat today - we're going for the Uppababy Vista and Maxi Cosi Pebble. Feel so much better we've got the big bits sorted... Also bought some Lansinoh as someone a few pages back was saying it's great... DH looked slightly grey when I told him what it was for!

TarkaTheOtter · 03/11/2013 20:40

flyaway what about a playmat for the baby?
I have this and dd would happily lie on it for ages batting at the toys once she reached a certain age.
Baby sleeping bags are good presents too. I like the gro bag travel ones like this.
Or a cosy toes for the pushchair? John Lewis have nice universal ones whih are cheaper than the ones made for specific pushchairs.

None of it is in anyway essential but nice to have.

TarkaTheOtter · 03/11/2013 20:43

I had delayed clamping with dd. Only took a few minutes to stop pulsing. I then opted for the injection to hurry the placenta out so they could get on with stitching me up (I was a bit anxious and wanted it over and done with). I'll probably ask for the same this time if everything goes ok.

MrsVDB · 03/11/2013 21:52

Ooh I love that playmat tarka

MrsVDB · 03/11/2013 21:56

£28 as well! What a bargain :)

Naturegirl82 · 03/11/2013 23:27

angel what colour did you go for? A few of us have gone for that pram/car seat combo.

I had a surprisingly productive day. Although the one thing I was really meant to work on was reviewer comments from a paper and that was the one thing I didn't do! Oh well! Really wish it wasn't Monday tomorrow. 7 weeks and counting. Jealous of you ladies finishing soon.

I'm starting to feel very big now. Caught sight of myself in the multiple changing room mirrors when shopping and got a bit of a shock Shock
