New thread, hoes!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LyraSilvertongue · 23/10/2013 14:50

Maybe, paracetamol gives me bad stomach ache during pregnancy. Fine any other time. So I'd just be substituting one pain for a worse one.

Oh Lyra that sucks. Bath and an early night?

That's rubbish Comms. But being on the sofa beats the office I suppose. Will you be in tomorrow?

Lumpy another amazing story!

Abibub · 23/10/2013 15:22

Just marking my place quick so's not to loose you!!

Will come back and read up this evening if poss!! Hope everyone is good :0)

HotCrossPun · 23/10/2013 15:39

For those of you who are also planning a homebirth (sorry I can't remember names) NCT have a really good booklet you can download. My DP found it really useful reading through all the stats as he is a wee bit worried about us not being in a hospital.

here

lumpylumps · 23/10/2013 16:17

Welcome Mrsk I'm a victim of the failed withdrawal method, and random periods!! I had a period in may, then missed June. Did a test that was negative. Put it down to pco then missed July. Did another test that was positive. Presumed that Junes test was a false negative, went for my 12week scan to be told that I was only 8 weeks so who knows what had happened there
I'd only told dh that I wanted another baby on the Friday, did the positive test on the Monday!!!
Although I'm not stupid and know the withdrawal method is the most ineffective method ever, it had worked for us for 3 years!!! So I was surprised when it failed!!!

lumpylumps · 23/10/2013 16:18

Bloody phone!!! Sorry, you didn't need to read that twice!!!

MummyPig24 · 23/10/2013 16:37

Oh Hot I really wish I had the balls for a home birth. I just don't think we have the room and the children have nowhere to go if it happens during the day time. The birth centre is going to have to be my happy medium I think.

We are packed, my dad is dealing with the cat, we are ready go when dh gets home. Very excited!

April13 · 23/10/2013 16:46

comms it's ridiculously trashy and weirdly addictive and I love it ??

FoxMulder · 23/10/2013 16:58

Everyone who I tell that I want to go to the MLU unit looks at me in horror when I explain they don't have epidurals then say 'I would want to be in the hospital'. It's a bit unnerving.

MummyPig24 · 23/10/2013 17:08

You'll be fine without an epidural fox. I had one the first time, the second time when I felt like I couldn't go on and needed pain relief is what I now realise to be transition, so very close to the end, and I know that this time I can definitely cope. And if you do decide you desperately need an epidural they can transfer you.

mrsksays · 23/10/2013 17:10

FoxMulder - I've had the same thing - I'm opting for a MLU too and people who've had babies already give me a slightly condescending cocked head and an "ok then, if you say so" when I tell them no epidurals, like I'm really clueless.

Maybe I am - but I at least want to try to not have one! I bloody hate hospitals and the rooms in the MLU seem so much more homely and if no problems I can be home 4 hours after.

Blockette · 23/10/2013 17:34

My MLU is IN a hospital! - will they be able to do them there do you think? Maybe these are the type of things I should find out .....

haha attack of the phone again lumpy we will be on a new thread in no time!

SCAN TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Team blue or Team pink? pink or blue?

HotCrossPun · 23/10/2013 17:34

If you have decent MLU then they are a great happy medium. My local one looks so depressing and dreary, so the hallway it is! Grin

The thought of an Epidural is actually more scary to me than the birth. Being numb and having to rely on other people to tell me when I'm meant to be pushing etc, is terrifying to me.

That's the great thing about birth though I suppose. There are a million different ways to do it and there is a pain relief/setting that will suit everyone.

On a side note, I really want mushy peas. And I really want something crunchy. So I've come up with the ingenious idea of reduce down a tin of mushy peas and rolling it in egg & breadcrumbs ready to be fried. I, for one, am looking forward to dinner! What's everybody else having?

HotCrossPun · 23/10/2013 17:37

Mummy I've watched some lovely births that have been based in the MLU. You can take it all your home comforts with you and really jazz the place up.

Rockchick1984 · 23/10/2013 17:40

I had the same experience as Mummy - decided I couldn't cope without an epidural during transition, 5 mins later and I was pushing so didn't need it after all! We'd been told about it at antenatal classes, but didn't realise while it was actually happening until DH pointed it out!!

Right ladies, pram shopping! I'd got my heart set on the bugaboo buffalo despite it being far too expensive, and have managed to save £800 towards it, pram is £859 but then obviously need all the rest of the baby gubbins as well. Reasons for wanting the bugaboo - large seat, so DS can go in and I can pop baby in the sling if needed; massive basket to fit all my shopping in; excellent resale value; generally gorgeous; takes a buggy board that doesn't void the warranty. Negatives - price, incredibly heavy to lift (but easy to push); seat unit not suitable from birth so couldn't swap DS into the pram partway through the day.

Have looked at all kinds of others, and not found anything that's better and cheaper. Until today... The Graco Evo - its fab! Can get everything inc car seat and carry cot for under £350, seat unit fine from birth so can let DS get for a bit then pop baby in when needed, huge basket, light but substantial. Only downside is that although I could put buggy board on, the handle isn't as high as I'd like so I'd end up kicking it.

Decided I can live without a buggy board, I'm seriously impressed with it for the price, and I'm a bit of a pramaholic (had 5 so far) so reasonably sure I can choose a good pram for what I need Grin

Imeg · 23/10/2013 17:41

Just saying hello. Had a midwife appt this morning and got the magic bit of paper for HR to arrange maternity leave. She also told me antenatal classes are on a Tuesday afternoon and work have to give me time off: not sure whether to be pleased or not as I am already missing a lot of work for scans etc.
I like the midwife a lot, she seems very sensible and supportive.
I've also booked a counselling appt for us both to get us talking to each other (not our strong point).
Pram, I watched the Nip/Tuck episode, or at least the relevant bits as I got a bit sick of scantily clad blondes in the rest of it. Bree Walker's hands look very different to my husband's (his mainly look like there are bits missing - people have sometimes asked whether he has had an accident). It was very interesting to see it portrayed in a fictional context.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 23/10/2013 17:48

Fox I'm going for the MLU too. I've had an epidural (for an op) and I can honestly say I'd never have one again. You will be just great when it comes to labour. As will we all Wink

MrsK how were your last labours? If you don't mind me being a nosey cow!

Good luck tomorrow Block!

Glad you have got a good MW Imeg. And I'm so pleased you've arranged some counselling. I hope it helps.

LyraSilvertongue · 23/10/2013 17:53

Hot, your dinner sounds interesting Wink
I'm going for an easy option again (head still feeling like it's got razors rattling around in it) so I'll fry up some mince with a tin of tomatoes and add pasta. The boys will be happy with that.

On epidurals, I didn't intend to have one but I ended up with one both times. The relief of being free from that awful pain was immense. The second time I was cursing the anaesthetist for taking so long to get the needle in because I honestly thought I would die if I had to endure one more contraction. I'm a bit of a wuss with pain though Grin

Rock, glad you've chosen something you like. I still happy with our choice (Mothercare Orb). But I only have the baby to consider as my boys are much older than your DS.

MummyPig24 · 23/10/2013 18:01

Everyone raves about the birth centre, everyone I've mentioned it to says "it's so lovely" or "I've heard such great things". Including mil who had both her boys there and adored it.

Beccadugs · 23/10/2013 18:20

So glad I am not the only one who is really put off by re thought of an epidural. I know some women swear by them, but personally I need to know what is going on. I'm the type of person who doesn't take pain killers as I need to know where/how bad the pain is. (Do love my anti sickness drugs though, couldn't live without them!)

Welcome MrsKays. I am very jealous if your one week of queasyness. 21 weeks of medicated constant queasiness and 1 vom a day or total vom-maggeddon.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 23/10/2013 18:34

Becca, vom-mageddon!! I love it!! Also with you on the love for the anti-sickness meds. Do you think you'll be able to stop taking them?

Sorry you're still feeling rough Lyra. Hope that head eases soon

MTBMummy · 23/10/2013 18:39

Evening all, back on the thread for the first time in ages, will try and stay awake long enough to catch up a bit.

I've been at a 2 day conference in Brighton and while I loved it, it has totally knackered me, only one more before flea arrives.

How is everyone this evening? DP is out, so I need to either come up with something to do or go to bed :-)

Coolhand · 23/10/2013 18:43

I was supposed to be MLU last time. Our one was only open a few years and had all the mod cons, really nice. Birthing pool in every room as well as a birthing stool, one of those rope thingys to pull on, ball and was really homely. There was also a pull out bed if DH wanted to stay overnight. Unfortunately as DS was breech, we weren't allowed to use it. Not allowed this time either as VBAC. It was within hospital but was totally different atmosphere - you couldn't get epidurals there - you had to be transferred up to the delivery ward if you wanted epidural.

OwlinaTree · 23/10/2013 19:28

Blockette I'm with fox re early morning pee. Wouldn't be able to hols it in first thing! My scan was 830 ( it wasn't it was more like 9). I just had one pee then sipped water till the appointment and it seemed to be fine.

Beccadugs · 23/10/2013 19:52

maybe I've no idea. Tried on Sunday and it was bad!! I'm down to one a day and just deal with the nausea in the afternoons.

Hope your head is better lyra!
