Hope Elodie slept well after her adventure. We took H to the fair on Saturday evening and he was fine with it until it started getting too noisy. But then he fell asleep in the carrier!

Had a weird panic tho - DP was carrying him but I was so stressed about not being able to protect him that I was shaking and tearful and nearly fainted. Weirdest bitwas I couldn't put my finger on why I was stressed until a lot later.

Plus I was scared stiff of the rides. But someone had to go on with DSS. So I had to 'mum up' for his sake.

Today's our logistical crazy day. DP has a mild head cold and dodgy throat and clearly wants looking after. But that's not going to happen...He's just sulkily taken the cat to the vets to get spayed while I look after H, who appears to also have his cold.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sympathetic. But he has to realise that the world doesn't stop if you're a bit under the weather - he always expects me to carry on, so it's time he understood how hard that is when you feel like crap.

Onto morr important things - my boobs leaked a tiny bitand I ccould sometimes get a couple of drops out if I squeezed in a certain way.

I was also very lucky on the wee leakage front and never had a problem. I'll put it down to luck and having done PFEs regularly ever since reading in s mag it improved sex at a younger age than I care to admit do them now!!

Alexandra6 · 21/10/2013 08:56

It's so funny how they can sleep through so much noise! I remember my toddler niece was passed out across two chairs at my wedding when all the music was on!

I am such a kid, love rides, I'll be good at doing that I even talked my little stepsister into a rollercoaster ride at winter wonderland because I wanted an excuse to go on, except it backfired and she cried oops

Did anyone else bother with waterproof mattress covers for their bed? Am debating it as was thinking of waters breaking early, baby accidents in our bed etc, but don't want to spend a lot on one and not sure they're comfy?

BraveLilBear · 21/10/2013 09:18

Oh Alex I LOVE rides! Usually. Managed the mad mousemini rroller coaster, survived the log flume soaked but the last ride was a spinny yhing with no bars that sticks you in with centrifugal force. But then it bumps you up and down. I actually cried but passed it off as wind-induced was so dangerous - had to grab onto DSS to stop him flying off the seat at one point!

HazleNutt · 21/10/2013 10:37

We're home and travelling was not as bad as I thought, Viki did not seem to mind the early wake up, bus, airport, plane etc. Had a spectacular projectile vomiting episode on the plane, luckily DH was standing next to an empty seat with him at that moment, but other than that he was fine. Seemed to be happy to be home, talked to all his toys and is now sleeping.

But had a really scary moment as well. I was carrying him and tripped and fell when I was walking up the stairs to the plane. As I couldn't use my hands and his safety was my main concern, my knee had to take the whole hit. It's quite nice pinkish purple at the moment, but as long as I don't bend it, I'm fine. Viki is fine too, he barely noticed it. I was shaking like a leaf though, I could have dropped him on those metal stairs, or fallen on him..bloody terrifying.

Work tomorrow. Quite worried about how they will manage if he still doesn't eat properly. Will try bottle again later and also ordered a couple of sippy cups that should be suitable from 4 months, maybe those will work.

CatsCantFlyFast · 21/10/2013 10:53

Alex if you do decide to get a waterproof mattress cover let me know a I have one on my bed from a department store and I will check the label to see what make it is. It's on there because we had a few months where one of the cats decided that pissing on our bed was a good idea. It's just like a mattress cover, goes on under the fitted sheet. It's soft, not plastic (I think the waterproof bit is hidden inside) and doesn't make a noise. You wouldn't know it was a waterproof one

BelissimaLol · 21/10/2013 10:55

Oh hazle how scary!! I've had nightmares about falling down the stairs so I can imagine how you must have felt. Thank god it was all ok in the end- and a bruised knee is not bad going!
Off swimming shortly. Weather is shite, raining and windy but I'm still looking forward to it!

Alexandra6 · 21/10/2013 11:04

Yes please merk. Nightmare about the cat pee. Mine has always been good about that apart from when we first got her and had to keep her inside and she suddenly decided her cat tray wasn't hygienic and did a poo on my gorgeous furry throw which was dry clean only!

Anyway glad your fall was ok for Viki hazle, must have been really scary. I nearly walked out in front of a van a couple of months ago (got confused about one way system so was looking the other way, have been so clumsy in pregnancy) - bumpy was obviously leading, and the feeling of dread about what could have been was just awful! Every time I get upset that someone killed our beautiful car, I remind myself things could have been worse. Speaking of which, did anyone else not have a car during late pregnancy/childbirth and was it manageable?

MotherOfCleo · 21/10/2013 12:24

wow hazel glad you are both ok!!!!

I nearly fell down 25 stairs at work when I was about 28 weeks, was in a maxi dress and my feet got tangled, had to grab on to the handrail.....seriously almost crapped myself. Doesnt do much for your BP, careful of your knee, try to R.I.C.E it.

MotherOfCleo · 21/10/2013 12:26

merk our cat pissed on our bed not long after we moved in, while staring me in the eye.....little shit bag got grabbed by the scruff and chucked in the ensuite shower, thankfully he didnt do it again.....I'd have skinned the ratbag. Feel sorry for you as it stinks doesn't it.

janey1234 · 21/10/2013 13:25

My mattress cover is from m&s and was about £30 - well worth it in my mind given the bed cost a hell of a lot more than that. Miles isn't a sicky baby but it's still saved our mattress on a number of occasions.

Hazle - terrifying re fall. Glad you're both ok and that you had a good hol.

CatsCantFlyFast · 21/10/2013 13:55

Ours is this one from John Lewis. I did quite a lot of research as a lot of them are very noisy and sweaty evidently!

Cat somehow took offence when another man stayed with us for a week. Started by pissing on the spare bed (with other man in it!) and progressed to our bed. Stopped after I bought the mattress protector funnily enough.

Quodlibet · 21/10/2013 15:59

Good luck back at work Hazle!

I am having a sofa day today as I worked the weekend (even though yesterday was my birthday - it was on a nice retreat so no need for tiny violins). And - big news - after my meeting with PhD supervisor this morning, my thesis is ready to submit (bar a few very minor tweaks/edits). Hurrah! This is an indescribable relief - it has felt like the never ending task for so so long.

Alex we don't have a car and aren't planning on getting one. We are used to it but can't really see how it's going to be a problem. In terms of getting to our hospital and back a taxi will be cheaper than CC and parking, and my parents will be around staying nearby for the birth/early weeks with their car.

Has anyone else experienced uncomfortable levels of wriggling? I am now getting what feels like a rendition of Riverdance on my cervix. It's quite painful at times.

Alexandra6 · 21/10/2013 16:25

Mine is sometimes uncomfy although weirdly I still like it, ridiculous pregnancy excitement It wasn't painful for me though, maybe it's just a position the baby has got itself into. Mine was head down rather than riverdance feet down at my last app, but I'm further along than you. I thought they scanned you for position towards the end - had no idea you're relying on the skill of the midwife! I have heard two stories recently about midwives not being sure on position, or wrong. Must be hard to tell just by feeling!

janey1234 · 21/10/2013 17:57

Hard to tell indeed - as I think I told you, consultants and midwives were all feeling my transverse breech bump to see what it felt like. All agreed they wouldn't have been able to tell from feel alone!

Good work quod Smile And you mentioning the cervix pains has brought it all back. I think cavort suffered with lightening cervix too - you will get lots of sympathy from us both!

Alexandra6 · 21/10/2013 19:07

Someone on Sat night was telling me about her 30 hour labour and loads of pushing before they finally realised it was in a bad position (maybe it was back to back) and she had to have an emergency C-section!

Alexandra6 · 21/10/2013 19:09

Oh and congrats on thesis quod!

Quodlibet · 21/10/2013 19:22

Yeah my midwife last Monday said head down, but scan the following morning said breech and I am pretty sure it hadn't turned in between. It's now in a different position as what was back/bum at scan is definitely wriggly limbs of some sort. It's so hard to tell!

BraveLilBear · 22/10/2013 08:43

Oh gosh Hazle that trip muat have been terrifying - how's the knee? I hope work is ok today... sending thoughts cos it can't be easy.

Yesterday's chaos went surprisingly well. Cat neutered, and is officially nuts- even the vet referred to her as a fiesty little madam. H had round 2 of jabs - he took it loads better than first time and only cried a little bit for a few seconds despite having picked up daddy's cold. Altho I spent all afternoon and evening cleaning up sick.

And I got sorted out as well - I am now the possessor of a coil. It did hurt but not as bad as I thought and I forgot to take painkillers beforehand. Weirdly, my cervix was paid a compliment... Apparently it's 'snapped back into place very quickly - you'd never have known you gave birth 13 weeks ago'.

Had quite a crampy day and was feeling a bit meh but unbelievably, DP surpassed himself and made me drinks and snacks and dinner with zero prompting, fuss or 'I feel sooo poorly' dramatics required.

What's happening in the world today then berries? Two friends of mine IRL are due today and tomo so I'm looking forward to some baby announcements Grin

HazleNutt · 22/10/2013 09:34

I'm back at work, is funny. Especially due to the cultural background - nobody in Estonia would go back to work so early, people would have cats-bum faces if you left a year-old.
I'm sure DH will manage just fine, except that the bottle is still an issue, he will eat a little but not enough and is of course grumpy when hungry.
I will go home for lunch, but they will drive to PILs today to pick up our dogs in the afternoon, that's 1,5 hours each way plus that the PILs want to spend time with the baby too, so I can't actually help if he decides not to eat anything during that time. And of course, going back home every couple of hours every day is not doable either, so all fingers crossed that he will start eating properly asap.

MotherOfCleo · 22/10/2013 09:59

Good luck for today hazel, hope it doesnt drag too much!

I am considering whether what I thought was a pulled groin muscle is infact a varicose vein? It proper throbs when I sit down which surely a muscle wouldn't do? Must have stretched oddly in bed last night too as I was woken up by an agonising pain down my left side under the bump....had to breath through it, think I stretched something which didn't want to be stretched.

HazleNutt · 22/10/2013 10:27

Have just ordered the 4th side for the cot. Viki namely doesn't just shuffle around in the cot any more, but swiftly rolls over to our bed, no stopping him. And of course I'm worried that he will just get stuck somewhere under our blanket or pillows like that. Also glad I went for the Fabimax (99 cm lenght) and not the Babybay (86 cm) with my little giant.

Cavort · 22/10/2013 10:40

Well done on getting your thesis done Quod, you must be so relieved. You will have to change your pseudonym to DrQuod Grin

Yes fingers crossed Hazle. Common sense suggests that he can only go hungry for so long before having to take the bottle but I'm not sure babies have much common sense. Mine certainly doesn't. And your poor DH for having to weather the hungry grumpy baby storm. Glad you were both ok after your scary fall - you can't beat a good bruise to add to your nice tanned legs. Smile

Brave I am glad you think coil fitting wasn't too painful. I am planning to get one fitted but have been putting it off as the fitting of the first one I had (before TTC) was excruciatingly painful, and despite telling myself that it won't be anywhere near as painful post-birth I am still being a chicken. I will book myself in for one.

The thing that's happening in my world is possessing a baby who increasingly doesn't want to sleep at all during the day. In theory this is fine with me as long as she sleeps at night (which she currently does - generally 12 hours with 2 pit stops for feeding) but she gets grumpy and is clearly tired but will not allow herself to wind down and fall asleep. She is so alert, it's like she is scared of missing something while she is asleep so she fights it. You can literally watch her eyes closing and then she starts moving to wake herself up and has a disgusted look on her face that she nearly allowed sleep to happen. As a result my days are currently spent making sure sleep does happen by any means possible. She didn't used to be like this so I am hoping it is due to the 4 month sleep regression which we are currently in the throws of. All good fun!

BelissimaLol · 22/10/2013 11:04

In my world we also had 12 week jabs today and there was a lot less crying too! I now have a baby asleep on me but I figure she deserves extra cuddles. Should I expect sick then or was that from the cat?????
On other news I'm off north on thu and will leave (not so dear)H alone here for a few days. I think he needs to miss us and appreciate us more.
Cav I think this resistance to sleep is quite common. It's tiring but at least she's sleeping at night!!!

BraveLilBear · 22/10/2013 11:09

Cavort I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Felt a lot like how I remember standard internals during labour. I wouldn't volunteer every week, but once every 5-10 years I can manage!

A sleep-hating baby is hard work, I feel for you. H is often the same... if he doesn't nod off soon I might take him out in the pram which usually works. But I'm also looking after a kitten who's determined to claw her collar of shame off so I'm not mad keen on going far today.

Oh congratulations DrQuod! Totally missed that. What's it in?

BraveLilBear · 22/10/2013 11:13

Good news Lol! It was H being sick but I think a lot of that was down to his sniffles as well. He's been a bit sick this morning but only about the same amount as normal.

We also had blowout nappy number one this morning. Good thing he was wearing a soon to be retired sleepsuit :)
