Holy cow Alex, that must be stressful. As Cavort says, they wouldn't think twice about getting junior out if things were looking ropey.

Would definitely ask why they're not scanning - there could be a good reason. Fingers crossed that everything is ok and you get to come home and chill out soon x

HazleNutt · 15/11/2013 17:18

purple you said you're planning to wean soon. So my experience so far - Viki agreed to have a few spoonfuls of avocado, did not like carrot or banana. My oh my how we love baby rice, gobbles it down. I tried this one, but they're probably all similar:
www.bebe-au-naturel.com/holle-creme-de-riz--des-4-mois,bebe,produit,0-1603-4991,3.couche-lavable.html

Will try to sneak some fruit and veggies into the rice next, will see what he thinks of that. DH is a lot happier when he has a full, happy baby at home.

BelissimaLol · 15/11/2013 17:40

Hope you're well soon Alex. And we might have a baby sooner than we thought GrinGrin.
Mother I second what everyone says. In the first 2-3 weeks let him sleep how he wants to. If it's on top of you so be it. We started like that and then slowly increased her "shifts" in the basket, until she started sleeping there for the whole night. From what I've read when they are this little they need the body heat to feel safe.
Over here we're still battling a cold and a very loud cough!! The poor lamb is feeling very sorry for herself. The only good thing is that she is so tired from all the coughing she is sleeping rather well. If it wasn't for the snoring I would sleep well too!!
Oh god. Weaning. I don't even know where to start!!! Argh.

MotherOfCleo · 15/11/2013 18:05

Hope your ok alex! How scary for you. Confused My friend had unexplained bleeding at various points in her pregnancy, they never did explain it. Her little one is fine though. So try not to worry too much. As the others said if they were worried they would whip baby out asap.

merk they are clear covers which make the nipple bigger, its possible that he could take in more air with them. He seems happy enough tho. I've proped his matress up a bit so fingers crossed it helps tonight.

My OH is ace Grin He so looks forward so much to giving Harvs his daily bottle of formula, so cute! Grin

MotherOfCleo · 15/11/2013 18:09

oh and brave I think you're right! I've been drinking heaps more today, I usually have a bottle of water next to the bed but forgot to fill it up last night.

Oh and any tips about how to get rid of hiccups? Harvey gets them about twice a day Sad

CatsCantFlyFast · 15/11/2013 18:34

Mother my DH is really keen on either full formula feeding or mix feeding as he really wants to be involved. In honesty I feel so much pressure/guilt at the thought of not breastfeeding i'm scared to even consider it. But i am so glad mix feeding is working well for you as it makes me less nervous about it being a viable possibility

CatsCantFlyFast · 15/11/2013 18:35

Sorry, forgot to say, alex hope you're ok and not too panicked! You're in the best place (are you still there?) and they will have baby out and in your arms the second they feel the need no doubt.

Keep us posted... my excitement over Harvey's impending birth was stupendous so don't leave me in the dark Grin

MotherOfCleo · 15/11/2013 19:04

merk I honestly recommend it, its good to have the option of help with feeding if you need it. Last night after feeding basically solidly from 10.30pm - 2.30am he offered to go down and make a bottle and give him that when he still wanted to feed. It really really helped as I was tired and very sore by then.

He wouldnt pressure me to stop feeding but he would never pressure me to keep with it if I wanted to stop.

Every situation is different though so you will find what is the right option for you. Don't feel pressured to do anything, getting breast feeding established is hard but it is getting easier everyday. My main issue is that I'm not brave enough to do it in public or in front of people, I bought a nursing top today and hopefully that will help. I have another nursing top too but it is short sleeved so I might need to add some sleeves to it. Apart from that the easiest thing for my modesty seems to be 2 vest tops, one pulled up and one down. Its odd the things that become an issue, I hadnt even worried about what clothes I would wear Blush Confused

HazleNutt · 15/11/2013 19:20

just a vest top under anything you can pull up and you'll be fine. I thought I would be more shy, but if the other option is a screaming baby, I don't have any issues with feeding wherever I am.

MotherOfCleo · 15/11/2013 19:26

Haha, hope I man up soon hazel!! I'm annoyed with myself for being such a loser about it. Hopefully if I can get a few tops sorted that I feel comfortable in I'll be ok. xx

Quodlibet · 15/11/2013 20:01

It's great that BF is going so well Mother. My DP wants to be involved too so my plan currently is to express from early days and try to create a supply for DP to feed. But I'd consider mixed feeding too if for some reason that wasn't working out.

I had my 36 wk appt today. Baby is 4/5 engaged and head down (hurrah) but my fundal height hasn't changed in 2 weeks making me now 4/5cm behind, so another growth scan next week. Quite weird being briefed by midwife on what to do when waters break/labour starts!

Alex, am hoping all is well with you and you are not feeling too worried.

MotherOfCleo · 15/11/2013 20:05

Ahh I'm so excited for you and alex quod!! Grin Grin

I found out why Harvey didnt engage, the cord was round his neck so he couldn't drop down....he was honestly such a pickle!!

Alexandra6 · 15/11/2013 21:14

I've only had brown (old) blood today and have felt baby moving this evening and heartbeat is looking good. DH and my mum and MIL came to visit this evening and have just left - the doctor said I can either be discharged now or stay another night just to keep an eye on the blood situation so am staying another night. No signs of labour unfortunately so really don't know what the bleed was Confused

janey1234 · 15/11/2013 21:50

Have you eaten the cupcake though Alex? Hope you didn't let your DH or mother in law scoff it?! Wink

Quod my DP has given Miles one bottle of expressed milk or formula since day 1. He really loves it, I think he really appreciates what a special bond feeding creates and is happy to be involved in it too. Is a bit of a PITA to sterilise and express just because it takes time, but totally worth it. Having said that we now give formula most days; now I'm not worried about my supply, and given I'm only planning to bf for 6 months, it hardly seems worth the effort for just one feed a day...

MotherOfCleo · 15/11/2013 22:08

So far my milk supply seems ok...although we've only been doing boob and bottle for 3 days, i've had to make him feed tonight as I was leaking....hum attractive.

The MiL has turned on the nipple shield now. We had a bad night last night and she said it would be because he couldnt get enough milk due to the shield, so rubbish, trust me he was getting milk, plus he had a bottle in their too. Grrr damn people.

MotherOfCleo · 15/11/2013 22:33

Sorry, I've become so damn defensive, stupid really but just take everything so personally at the moment. Hormones I guess.

CatsCantFlyFast · 15/11/2013 22:58

What do Braxton hicks feel like?

CatsCantFlyFast · 15/11/2013 22:59

Oh and ignore them all mother. You know what's best for you and your baby

Quodlibet · 15/11/2013 23:02

Merk your bump goes all tight and hard. Doesn't usually hurt but maybe a bit uncomfortable.

Mother she is talking bullshit, ignore!

MotherOfCleo · 15/11/2013 23:08

Cheers guys!

Yeah merk they are pain free but you'll notice your bump go hard for a while and may feel a bit odd. I used to get them when I was walking.

CatsCantFlyFast · 15/11/2013 23:20

It's not that then! Got pain(s) low at the front of my pelvis

MotherOfCleo · 16/11/2013 01:30

Hummm, when do you get the pain? What sort of pain is it?

Harvey is awake again, its so frustrating, during the day I feel him for 30/45 mins and he drops off and sleeps for a couple of hours, at night we move him upstairs while he is sleeping which usuallu wakes him. I feed him and he just moans and whinges, I've fed him solidly for an hour and a half and although he keeps falling asleep on the boob, he then wakes up and tries to take more, sleeps again etc. If you try to move him he freaks out, I tried leaving him hoping he would go into a deep sleep but no such luck, tried moving him onto the middle of my chest and letting him settle their, no luck. Tried more food, he is interested but doesnt take much before napping. What to do huh?

CatsCantFlyFast · 16/11/2013 08:09

Mother I read it takes a little while for babies to get the difference between day and night so hopefully soon he may be more settled at night and save his fussing for the day
Pain is back this morning. At first last night I thought it was trapped wind, but it was very very low and not constant so I figured it couldn't be that. At one point last night the only comfy position was on my hands and knees as if I tried to stand straight or walk I was in agony. I thought it may be because baby was in an awkward and very low position but its coming back again this morning so i would be surprised if baby had stayed in one place all night. Goodness knows. However I do know that google is not my friend scared myself to death reading about pre term labour and placental abruption!

MotherOfCleo · 16/11/2013 09:09

merk call your midwife. Best to be reassured by someone in the know!!

In the end my OH took Harvey downstairs to give him a bottle, he fell asleep before he had it so got brought back up in the carrycot where he sleeps during the day, slept till 5am, fed and back down until now. Maybe he isnt a fan of the crib?

Quodlibet · 16/11/2013 09:17

Merkin I hope you are ok, worth calling your midwife. I had a similar thing around 22 wks and actually took myself into the labour ward in a panic as was experiencing what felt like contractions - low cramping on and off, very painful. No explanation in the end bar 'irritable uterus'. It happened a couple of other times at 24/26 wks and always when I needed a poo, I think sometimes your digestion can irritate the womb when the womb is at a certain point of growing? Worth getting checked I think.

Alex how are you doing today?
