All of you who are mums already:

I'm babysitting a friends wee girl today. She's nearly 2 I think, not quite sure. Her mum said that she normally naps at 11oclock for about 3 hours. She isn't showing any signs of tiredness yet at all. Shall I put her in her travel cot and see if she falls asleep anyway? I don't want to mess up any sleep routines.

Selfishly I'd like to keep her awake, I'm using her as an excuse to make halloween cards and use glitter glue Grin

PainAuxRaisins · 18/10/2013 13:16

Wincing at the thought of gaw getting a paper cut on her fanny. Reminds me of that horrible toilet paper we had at school (akin to tracing paper). I'm surprised more of us didn't suffer laibial injuries.
On the scan front, yay for apprentice. Our thread is getting very girl-heavy.

PainAuxRaisins · 18/10/2013 13:17

...that should read 'labial' (not a word I have to type very often I must say)

MummyPig24 · 18/10/2013 13:23

Hot you should put her down for a nap at the specified time really. If she doesn't nap she will be over tired and an absolute nightmare for her parents this evening. Sorry!

PainAuxRaisins · 18/10/2013 13:23

Hot given that it's now 1.20pm I think her sleep routine might well be messed up for today (if she really is that regular a napper). If she's looking a bit dozy now maybe lie her down and see if she'll do a power nap. My DD2 was a serious daytime napper but if I let her go without she would get to about 2pm fine then go absolutely crazy. If this little girl is already bopping around the place in a very excited manner you might have missed the window of opportunity to get her (easily) off for a nap! Good luck - let us know how it goes!

HotCrossPun · 18/10/2013 13:39

Aw balls. Sad

I've just put her in the travel cot. Shes not sleeping but I think she will soon. So how about I let her sleep for 3 hours now, and then when she wakes up play some really energetic games with her to get her tired again for nighttime? Will that work?

Jolleigh · 18/10/2013 13:54

I'd just give her 90 mins now (but have no parenting experience! )

commsgirl · 18/10/2013 13:55

Congrats apprentice! Someone else mentioned their placenta was low, maybe Rock. Fingers crossed your placenta relocated itself!

MummyP I had girl dreams and it's a girl, despite being convinced I was having a boy. Same as you Maybs. Had a really awkward conversation with my mum at the weekend (she doesn't know we know the gender). She'd had a dream we are having a boy and is now convinced!

HotCrossPun · 18/10/2013 13:56

She fell asleep right away. Wee lamb must have been exausted! Confused

commsgirl · 18/10/2013 14:00

Hot when I was a nanny the first few days were a nightmare with nap times as she was so excited to be with someone new. It was fine though. If probably get her up a bit earlier than three hours or her parents will have a hard time getting her to sleep!

Beccadugs · 18/10/2013 14:13

Hi Martians!

Glad your scan went well appeentice. Mines in an hour and a half...

Jane had an awful day at work. Have to have a meeting every two weeks about my welfare as my boss doesn't think I am very accepting of the fact that being pregnant means I need to slow down a bit. WTF he won't do a risk assessment, or agree to me working from home (which it say I can do in my contract, at managers discretion) but wants to check I'm not struggling very couple if weeks. I clearly haven't articulated this well but I am livid. I don't want to leave my job after maternity leave, but if there is no flexibility I will have no choice...

apprenticemamma · 18/10/2013 14:18

hottie if she's like mine will need those three hours....

lumpylumps · 18/10/2013 14:21

hot I'd just give her 90mins but try to got her to wake up herself. Sleep cycles are 45mins so she should naturally be in a light sleep around then. Make noise to disturb her. You might find she wakes up anyway because she's in a strange place.

I had a low lying placenta at my 12 week scan. Pram has anterior but that just means it's at the front doesn't it? Not covering the escape route!

I've spoken to the relevant person about vouchers. They average it over 3 paydays. I'm too late to do anything about last month but she's going to contact payroll now to try to cancel this months and next months is cancelled so hopefully it won't be too bad.

I've posted on April and Mays threads to warn them. May were a bit "that's not how it works" April were lovely asking how we all are and thanking us for the heads up!!

HotCrossPun · 18/10/2013 14:27

Thanks for the advice all. I'll wake her up in an hour. We have spooky halloween cakes to bake Grin

Prams is anterior but not low, same as mine. Midwife says it doesn't cause any issues other than not feeling movement till later. I'm looking at it as a positive that we extra weeks of peace before the movements that keep you awake at night start.

PainAuxRaisins · 18/10/2013 14:30

See if she'll wake up at 3 - she'll have had over an hour by then plus it'll give her enough time in the afternoon to get tired in time for 7pm. I must warn you though, if she's anything like DD2 she won't wake up before 4.30/5pm. My girl took her full 3 hours no matter what time she went down! DD1 on the other hand would do a max 40 minutes (grrr). Becca I'm confused about your boss. He wants you to take it a bit easier? But won't authorise you to WFH??

NoMaybeAboutIt · 18/10/2013 14:31

Good luck for the scan Becca! Are you finding out the sex? Sorry your boss is being a twat. I don't understand why he won't let you work from home!

Glad you're getting it sorted Lumpy. What a pain in the arse.

Hope she wakes up for you nicely Hot. Got to love glitter glue!

commsgirl · 18/10/2013 14:35

Lumpy glad you're getting things sorted, what a nightmare! How's things since you got your belt?

Becca good luck for your scan! Your boss sounds like an idiot!

MummyPig24 · 18/10/2013 14:53

Hot you sound like a fun baby sitter. I have two lovely children I can led you.

comms someone else said their dream was right too. I would quite like another boy but in practical terms it would be easier if it was a girl as it is closer to dd in age. She is convinced it is a girl and now wants to name it Amy Rose after a character on the Sonic Wii game!

FoxMulder · 18/10/2013 15:00

By some weird coincidence my boss came up to me before to tell me he is supposed to do a risk assessment! He had just found out because one of my other colleagues had told him! I don't think there's been another pregnant woman at my work for many years.

BadlyWrittenPoem · 18/10/2013 15:17

Fox, I'm not up on it as I'm self employed but I think your employer is legally required to do a risk assessment within so long of being informed of your pregnancy.

apprentice, glad all is well. Low lying placenta at this stage is very common and most move up by the time of the next scan to check.

Beccadugs · 18/10/2013 15:24

Thanks everyone! Yes I was more confused than ever after our meeting!!

FoxMulder · 18/10/2013 15:41

Well he's known for about 12 weeks now. I should totally sue Wink

stephie101 · 18/10/2013 16:54

Hi peeps...its been a while....but im back and on a mission....

Blockette · 18/10/2013 16:56

Do you need to do risk assessments for boring office jobs? - My bosses are all up in London, and I am the only one who works for our company in this building country. They have barely acknowledged I'm pregnant let alone done anything different about it!

NoMaybeAboutIt · 18/10/2013 17:16

Yes Block. They're meant to assess if you need your chair playing with and computer screen etc. I think they're also meant to assess your actual working day, such as break times, time to walk around and stuff.

I've spoken to my work today and they have said I can work from home. I'm so pleased. I couldn't cope with 4 hours commuting a day.
