Hobb they do turn a different colour. Seemingly to make it easier for baby to find.

9 weeks today. Going to tell the PIL this weekend. As they are visiting and I can't really hide it anymore. I think they'll be surprised. Most Finnish families my age that I've met have only 1 or 2 children.

IfYouLoveSomebodyLetThemSleep · 17/10/2013 10:42

How did you all find out so early? I only took a test on a whim and got a shock with the answer!

I didn't pull at my nipples last time and it turned out fine, god knows where they've got that info from! They don't half scab how at first but after a while they toughen up. I only BF for 6 months last time and caved due to peer pressure to FF, determined to do it for longer this time round.

mumof2aimingfor4 · 17/10/2013 10:45

Sorry for being ignorant, hi new maybies!

We were trying for number 3 so as soon as my period was due I poas.

FrightFlea · 17/10/2013 10:48

Ifyoulove I was TTC since the new year so was waiting for my period and when it didn't arrive, did the test. So knew at 4 weeks ish.

Welcome to the group!

LittleBairn · 17/10/2013 10:55

Hello again.
I dropped out of the thread early on due to massive nerves about this pregancy ( I lost my DS during my first pregnacy) and didn't want to focus too much on the pregnacy.
I'm feeling more confident now I'm 11+6 I did have a placenta Hematoma so had a really scary hemorage a few week ago but were delighted to see a healthy baby bouncing around.

hobb darken nipples is really commen, when mine are cold they go the deepest purple it's very odd I'm nipples are so pale normally.

LittleBairn · 17/10/2013 10:59

I knew even before period was due I was pregant due to TTC for 8 months and monitoring my ovulation. It was like with my first pregancy intuition I just knew. I got pregnant last August too so maybe August/May are just my lucky months.

hamncheese · 17/10/2013 11:01

Hahaha nipple pulling.. Didn't do that and had no bf problems. I think I remember from last time a theory of excessive nipple play to stimulate labour though??? Ha!

Anyone going to breast feed though, be prepared for the myriad of conflicting advice. In five days since the birth I had ten different health professionals tell me all different things. Use a pillow... NEVER use a pillow... Hold their head in place... NEVER hold their head in place... Etc etc. do what works and ask only if you have problems. Or you may end up with well meaning people advising on something they may have never done before.

ifyoulove it'd have been hard for me to miss what with the horrific morning sickness! Found out at 4 weeks this time as we started ttc and I felt pregnant. Tested on a clear blue 11 days after DTD got a 1-2 weeks result.

PixieBumbles · 17/10/2013 11:02

Good luck to those having scans today, and moomin good luck with your uni assessment!

hobbjobb yes I noticed this, my nipples have gone really really dark!

Can't wait to get a bump, at the moment it's all podge, although really low down it definitely feels more firm than flabby

Xavielli · 17/10/2013 11:12

Nipple pulling made me giggle :) I can see the sense in it but it's no necessary. Contrary to popular opinion breast feeding shouldn't hurt at all, if your nipples crack for more than a week you need to have your latch checked. I ff my first and Bf the others - bf is so much easier. I'm really looking forward to doing it again.

dobedobedo · 17/10/2013 11:20

lol at the "preparing the nipples". Having at them with a wire brush would be more apt! (kidding, it's not that bad)

My work colleague overheard a conversation between my manager and her manager and... well. Let's just say I'm keeping a diary from now on and so is my colleague and I can see constructive dismissal on the horizon. Bunch of bastards. Sad

NannyPlumForPM · 17/10/2013 11:49

I am a bottle feeder Halloween Blush just putting it out there to let judgey people get it out of their system before I give birth Halloween Wink

I know the benefits of bf, I know the horrors of ff, I tried them both and I know which works for me. I am very pro choice and hope nobody judges me too harshly

mumof2aimingfor4 · 17/10/2013 12:11

nanny no judgeyness here, I combination fed dd2.

McBaby · 17/10/2013 12:11

Just got accepted for bf support training :) v excited had many horrendous problems with my daughter and bf and good support is essential.

V glad still feeding her at 14 months as she has D&V but managed to keep breast milk down this morning!

D&V plus morning sickness is not a good combo!

hobbjobb · 17/10/2013 12:20

I hope no one judges you nanny
We all need to do what is best for ourselves and our babies. A stressed out mum is no good, you need to do what is best for you and sod what others think. I hope to breastfeed but if it doesn't work out for me, I refuse to feel guilty and be judged!

I strongly believe that raising a child is hard enough without judgement from other mothers. From a close friend, I know there is a lot of competitive mothering out there and I will not be dragged into it

FrightFlea · 17/10/2013 12:26

Nanny, you won't be hearing it from me either. prochoice here too.

When is this pukiness going to stop. A month already and it just seems to be getting worse. Envy

That's very exciting McBaby. Congrats. Hope your DD gets better soon. For both your sakes!

IfYouLoveSomebodyLetThemSleep · 17/10/2013 12:32

Speaking of toughening up the nipples, has anyone been told to massage their perineum? I didn't bother last time and I tore massively, I'm tempted to start doing it well in advance now!

FrightFlea · 17/10/2013 12:35

Hobb you're right about the competitive parenting. It starts so frickin early. Already we heard a younger mum getting judged for being young, then the bf v ff debacle, then the crap about nurseries, sleeping through the night, and ends up with college places, career choices... I've no time of any of that crap. Listening to my mother harp on once a fortnight is quite enough for me. She loves a game of "Judge the neighbours"

Squiffie · 17/10/2013 12:36

Just found out my NHS '12 week' scan will be early November when I'll be 13+ weeks Angry Sad

Anyway, just found a local company that could fit me in tomorrow evening or Saturday morning, £50, just got to convince DH now!

IfYouLoveSomebodyLetThemSleep · 17/10/2013 12:41

I had mine done when I was 14 weeks Squiffie and the picture was much clearer than any of the 12 weeks scans I'd seen.

There'll be no judging from me either. Life is hard enough without any of that.

Squiffie · 17/10/2013 12:44

I'm just impatient and worried and paranoid and everything else Confused

PixieBumbles · 17/10/2013 12:44

Advice I've had from a friend with a 6 month old: "ignore any advice offered without asking for it. You'll work out your own way and as long as it works for you and your baby it doesn't matter what others think".

I think that's one bit of advice I will be following!

bushprincess · 17/10/2013 12:44

Ah! Nanny no judgement here - we made a pack remember!! anyhow, I'm sure most of us will make our own minds up about how we deal with our own babies... as long as everyone has the info they need to make an informed decision either way whose business is it but your own?!

thanks for the nipple chat girls - think I'll take his words with a pinch of salt!

Dobe oh no, sounds ominous... so sorry you're not feeling supported at work (to say the least)... so angry for you

bushprincess · 17/10/2013 12:51

pack? Pact I mean!

Spirael · 17/10/2013 13:07

No judging here either, I combo fed - though it was mostly BF or expressed BM. Primarily because DD was a demon in the evenings and would feed constantly from 6pm - 11pm then sleep through when she wasn't having a growth spurt. It meant I could express some during the quiet time in the morning and let DH do some of the feeding in the evening to allow me to move from my seat for a bit!

Even for those intending to fully BF, I would recommend getting 1 bottle, some milton tablets and a carton of baby milk in just in case. I had problems with my milk taking four days to come in because I gave birth early and so quickly that it took a while for everything to catch up. By the third day, DD needed milk rather than just colostrum to fill her tummy. Best to have everything prepared just in case, rather than needing to do an emergency run at midnight!

Can you call and check whether the NHS can fit you in any sooner, Squiffie? If you're having the downs tests done, then I think the scan needs to be done before a certain point. Nothing wrong with a private scan too, I'm hopefully having one two weeks today!

Hi IfYouLoveSomebodyLetThemSleep! Do you have a preferred abbreviation for your excessively long name? Wink I didn't massage my perineum last time and tore, but the tearing was internal and at the sides so I don't think it would have helped.

No nipple pulling here either, and aside from a bit of cracking initially (Lansinoh - make sure you have some!) it was all fine and I BF until around 7 months when I needed to start getting ready to go back to work FT.

Still struggling through MS and exhaustion here. I sit at my desk feeling really sick and tired all day, then go home and sleep on the sofa until DH puts me to bed. Rince and repeat. Not much of a life! This stage had better pass quickly.

bushprincess · 17/10/2013 13:07

Smile 2 pots of home-made, home-grown tomato and chilli Jam are now sitting in my kitchen! And, although I say so myself, taste damn fine! Have such a glut of tomatoes here that am deseperately trying to find ways of preserving them... think this ones a winner!

get super excited about our veggy garden.. .think DH is getting a bit fed up with every meal being prefaced with 'from our garden'!!
