New thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
claphammama · 19/09/2013 13:24

jelly waters should be clear to. I started leaking yellow fluid before DS was born and also wasn't sure what it was. Turned out I had meconium in my waters - it can make your waters go yellow or even slightly green. I would go to the hospital and have it checked just in case...

claphammama · 19/09/2013 13:27

PS. and my waters were also slowly leaking. So slowly that I initially thought it was just the usual watery discharge. Only the colour alerted me that it may be meconium (thanks to my NCT classes)

Slippysnow · 19/09/2013 13:42

I know it's been done to death but can someone give me the low down on bras nursing and sleep. How many you need? When do you buy them? What was the bravado one that has been reccomended? And are there any worthwhile budget bras that can be worn that aren't that bad?

Feel free to ignore me, I appreciate this has been discussed before

Flyer747 · 19/09/2013 13:47

So after speaking to my friend she said these area god send for night time nappy changes

m.johnlewis.com/mt/www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-baby-bundler-white-one-size/p230591844

Anyone ever used these?

Also I believe Aldi have a baby event on.

MotherOfNations · 19/09/2013 13:51

Jelly anything from clear to straw coloured is normal. My waters were straw coloured when I had my amnio.

Flyer If I hadn't been sore from just having a c-section it would have been her gob that was smacked.

MrsHoratioNelson · 19/09/2013 14:02

Flyer my sister really recommended them too. She had promised me that will be her baby present!

Sparkeleigh · 19/09/2013 14:04

SC here at 35+6 and started taking my raspberry leaf tablets

claphammama 6 days to go! Though I've got practically 3-4hrs of antenatal stuff to go to during the day so I'm counting it as 5.5 Grin and you can believe I'm enjoying every second of my count down Grin

PseudoBadger sorry to hear you're having such a rough time of it, I hope your consultants appointment goes well.

notsoold wow at your SIL. Don't suppose you could get your DH to stand guard on the door and say you're sleeping so she can't come in? and then forget for a few weeks Smile

My DH can have moments of a stunning lack of tact and diplomacy but I'm looking forward to seeing it in action against one of my aunts when the baby arrives. She isn't welcome in our house but I know she'll try and weasel her way in to see the baby. No chance...

TheFalconsmistress oooh, I hope this is it for you! fingers crossed!

Tarlia Good luck today!!

Oh, for those who were talking about Strep B, I asked my midwife if I should get tested and she said that something like 30% (can't remember exactly) of females were carriers but the problem is that it can be active and testable one week and not the other, so the test isn't conclusive and that's why they don't do it as standard. So, I decided not to.

JellyCurls sounds like you should put a pad on and go in and get checked out...

BowlFullofJelly · 19/09/2013 14:31

Can't believe all the chatting that went on overnight - im sure post natal thread will be similar with all of the night feeds.

I'm loving the colder weather, but wish the rain would give it a rest! I was hoping for nice, bright, cool autumn days.

Fx for you falcon - i hope the lack of updates means that things are moving for you! And i agree jelly, best to get checked - though i imagine its pretty embarrasing when just wee Grin. My waters went very dramatically whilst on the phone to my mum 2 minutes after arriving on labour ward, so i'm interested to see what happens this time.

I have the lovely student midwife coming roung tonight to discuss my birth plan - I really havent thought about it, might just let her do it. I think after a rather dramatic and intervention heavy birth last time i'm reluctant to plan too much, as i know anything can happen.

Starting to get a little bit twingey, but really nothing exciting going on here at 38 + 3 - i am so sure i'm going to be late, big sighs

Racheld33 · 19/09/2013 14:32

Good luck falcon and tarlia

DS much improved after croup on Sunday night, but given me his roaring cold (this baby better not come till its gone!) 38 + 6 so getting close now.

DS also seems to have dropped his nap (aaaggghhhh!) and is currently shouting 'open sesame' at his baby gate!

BowlFullofJelly · 19/09/2013 14:42

Oh, and good luck tarlia, hope all goes really smoothly for you after your stressful pregnancy, you deserve a lovely labour.

flyer thats lovely to hear from your mum - all my mum can remember is i was two weeks late, she was in labour for 36 hours, and it was bloody hot Smile. Apparently when your mum delivered gives a good indictation of when you will, so hope your little one is as prompt!

sisteroutlaw · 19/09/2013 14:43

Hey all - checking in late again! Haven't caught up but plunging straight into this page.
jellycurls put a pad on as Sparkeleigh has said. The midwives can tell by the look of what's collected. Grim but true. Had a meconium baby first time round and was told off for not coming in sooner. He was fine though and I knew he would be (probably naivety).
Flyer love that blundler for night time changes or all day in fact. Had a go doing up poppers on a newborn the other day. Frigging fingers and thumbs I was.
BRAs!!! I echo Slippysnow and would like a recap of best and budget bras... would those in Peacocks do?!
Am feeling buoyant again, mood and size-wise. Think the excitement is outweighing the fear finally Grin xxx

Smitten1981 · 19/09/2013 14:50

Slippy The Bravado one I have is this one, I got 2 and will probably get 2 nursing vests from them too. www.bravadodesigns.com/shop/uk-en/the-body-silk-seamless-nursing-bra

Flyer I don't know that much from when I was a baby apart from that I was three and a half weeks late, had to have a forceps delivery and was nearly 9lb.

I could talk before I was one and hold conversations and I was pretty easygoing (unlike my sister). I also had a weird fascination of making visitors to the house get in a big cardboard box when I was a toddler.

My mum actually recorded me shouting at my nan and grandad "Nanny in the box, nanny in the box" then laughing hysterically when she got in then doing the same with my grandad.

Mum said that I did it with everyone.

Weird child.

JellyCurls · 19/09/2013 14:56

Cheers ladies am home now. Have put on a pad and will check in a bit to see if it dry or not. Would rather tell you ladies its wee than have a midwife at hospital tell me that. Check back in later with an update x

Sparkeleigh · 19/09/2013 15:00

Tarlia this probably the last thing you'll be thinking of but woohoo! I got picked for the chocolate forum! Thank you! happy dance! Cake

ananikifo · 19/09/2013 15:09

Hi everyone! There's so much to reply to. Sorry if I miss anyone!

I hope falcon has her baby soon. It must just be torture that it's gone on so long.

flyer I bought baby bundlers and I'm sure we'll appreciate them in the first few days at least. M&S sell them in a 2 pack for £10.

I don't know much about my birth. I want to call my mom now and ask. I'm pretty sure I was induced on my due date but that may be wrong.

I've had an absolutely lovely day. I slept in till 9:30(expected the clock to say noon), watched homes under the hammer, and now I've been shopping. I've got camisoles and slippers and comfy home clothes now. I can't wait till mat leave starts for real.

I'm buying up tons of essential oils but I don't have a very good idea what I'll do with them. The nice ones like lavender can be infused in the air but I hate the smell of clary sage and black pepper.

roofio87 · 19/09/2013 15:25

sorry to bring this up again, but only just got round to checking and yes purlpe line in bum crack here!! very weird, although couldn't tell you what it normally looks like!!Wink what is this supposed to mean again?!

finally heard back from work and got forms back etc. but now I've lost my copies of my pay slips I had ordered so have had to order them again, could take 2 weeks to get to me. I'm so annoyed at myself. having another very emotional and upset day today, starting to feel a bit worried about how I'm feeling. hoping it's just a mix of boredom, hormones and impatience at wanting baby here!!!

sisteroutlaw · 19/09/2013 15:27

Oh my mum says about my arrival:

  • born in triage room, almost in the car on the way
  • I was 2 weeks early(!)
  • looked small but was nearly 8lb
  • was an easy second baby, contented and all that, but slept too much to be bothered about feeding so didn't gain weight quickly.

Wonder what my second will be like...

xuntitledx · 19/09/2013 15:31

I've got quite an unusual birth story...

In all of my scans, I was sucking my thumb which my parents thought was absolutely adorable until after my head had been delivered...the next thing my mum says is that she felt an unbelievable pain as my arm shot out and in went the thumb in my mouth again!

roxvox · 19/09/2013 15:56

xuntitledx that made me lol!

I was 2 days late, 8lb 13oz, and born back to back (as were my siblings). I had jaundice when I was born, and was put in one of those incubator things. Mum was in an antenatal meeting next door to the hospital room I was in and they heard a loud crash. Turns out that I had walked the lid off of my jaundice incubator and it had smashed on the floor Grin

Bit concerned that we were all born back to back due to the shape of my Mum's pelvis. Fingers crossed that's not something I have inherited!

PseudoBadger · 19/09/2013 16:02

I was 4 days late and was a shoulder dystocia with forceps. My mum was born by cs (her mum had a full length scar). We aren't great at birthing.....

OP posts:
roofio87 · 19/09/2013 16:08

I was one week early, oldest sis was 5 days early and middle one was 5 weeks early!! my mum maintains to this day that labour did not hurt and we were all out within 2 hours!! im hoping it is hereditary! Smile

TheFalconsmistress · 19/09/2013 16:11

No progress just pain :( forgive me if I don't update for awhile getting down

PseudoBadger · 19/09/2013 16:14

Sending you positive thoughts Falcon xx

Well just had the second steroid and it was much better! The MW got me to twiddle my toes apparently this disperses the liquid, and it was much less sore. So that's my top tip for you MoN (and anyone else!)

OP posts:
pinkbuttons · 19/09/2013 16:18

Sending positive labour vibes falcon.

Glad second injection better pseudo hope consultant appt ok.

Lovely to hear everyones stories. I was 2 weeks early 6lb 2 oz and looked like ET according to my GrandadHmm

I thought maybe Id get the same small baby but DS was 8lb 1 born by ventouse because of his huge head. Hoping this ones no bigger... Although DH was 10lb when born so I guess maybe we levelled eah other out.

notsoold · 19/09/2013 16:20

Falcon....don't despair hun... Things will develop when baby falcon is totally ready!!! Xxxx

Sparke...maybe I should get a cat !!! She is very afraid of them....mind you so is dh :)

Please do come and tell us about bras???

I was breech and my mum had a elcs ( she is disabled). It was the coldest night in many years reaching frost point ( in Brazil).
I was very pretty ( a back hand cumpliment as we say beautiful baby ugly adult :))
Around 7lb.
Was a terrible crying baby and only settled with certain songs played all the time.

I love my mum but she doesn't mince her words!!!

Happy to sc at 35 weeks!!!
