A new thread for you all to play with?

moominleigh94 · 23/09/2013 22:39

Don't even want to think about twins Hmm

thistlelicker · 24/09/2013 05:34

Wish I could sleep!!! Grrrr

Cybercat · 24/09/2013 06:47

Anyone else fretting about money & maternity leave yet? I'd planned to save as much as possible beforehand but since we've had the BFP it's just been one huge bill after another.

mumof2aimingfor4 · 24/09/2013 06:56

cyber im not taking maternity leave, im self employed and work from home. There are things that can help if you are on a lower houselhold income.
You have your child benefit (think its about £18/week, a sure start grant (£500 I think one off payment) plus tax credits. Dont worry though you will always manage to get by and you'll have a perfect bundle of joy to show for it.

mumof2aimingfor4 · 24/09/2013 06:57

Dont you get the first 6 weeks at 90% of usual pay anyway? Then it drops down to smp.

randdom · 24/09/2013 07:22

Thistle I was going to come on and ask whether anyone else was waking up really early! I have been up at 5 every morning for the last few weeks. Is exhausting!

Dylanlovesbaez · 24/09/2013 07:26

Congratulations everyone! I'm in the Maybies too. Got BFP Friday and Saturday!
This is my dc2 but I feel like a cannot remember being pregnant last time round. My dd is currently almost 17 months and going through some mega tantrums. Feeling totally exhausted and having some period pain like cranks which I don't remember from last time. Not exactly planned, we were hoping to be pregnant by Christmas to fit in around school holidays! So excited and petrified.

Dylanlovesbaez · 24/09/2013 07:28

Oh I forgot to add, my edd is between 25th and 30th may. My cycle has been crazy so can't really work it out. Guess I will have to wait until dating scan to get clearer picture.

Dylanlovesbaez · 24/09/2013 07:29

Cybercat, yep I'm totally fretting about money. I have a hideous amount on credit cards which I'm paying off slowly but I'm worried about minimum payments on maternity leave.

Cybercat · 24/09/2013 07:33

Im in the NHS so I won't get a bad maternity pay and I can cover all my monthly outgoings with respect of bills but I won't have any spare for unexpected stuff or going out to baby groups etc. I wanted to save as much as I could for that but it's not looking good at the moment. I don't think we will get tax credits. The surestart is only for lower incomes too isn't it? We are by no means high earners but we have lots of bills!

Cybercat · 24/09/2013 07:34

Dylan I hope it gets better for you x

Cupcake1985 · 24/09/2013 07:44

I think my maternity pay is good, it goes down in stages so we should cover me ok. My friend only gets smp with her work, very tight in this day and age! I want to take a full year as well and enjoy baby before putting them in nursery to go back to work.

thistlelicker · 24/09/2013 08:16

I don't even know how to even work out maternity pay :-(

AliOh · 24/09/2013 08:40

Welcome and congrats to Dylan !

I've not even thought about maternity pay yet! I know that I will only get standard SMP too as I work for a local charity. My hours were cut from full time to 16 hours at the end of July (works out well because it means I will be able to go back to work after). I think I'll likely get 90% of my wage all the way through, then when baby arrives with child benefit and tax credits we'll probably be better off. Don't even think my employer has a maternity policy lol! They better write one up quick :)

AliOh · 24/09/2013 08:42

thistle I know directgov have a benefits checker you can use and it has loads of different information on the benefits you'll be entitled too

LittleMissPear · 24/09/2013 08:46

Morning ladies, can I join you? Got my bfp over the weekend and confirmed with a CBdidgi this morning! I'm over the moon. Currently 4+5 which means I'm due 29 may I think! Could be June though based on some calculators. Very excited but also v worried it might all go wrong, trying to think positively!

moominleigh94 · 24/09/2013 08:57

Congrats and welcome all new BFPers and welcome to the Maybies Grin

I've woken up in that awful state where I only have mild nausea... but I know that if I eat anything, it would be a bad idea. Hmm on the bright side, registering with the doctor the day after tomorrow, so might get an idea of when my booking in appointment will be :)

9 weeks today Grin

impatientlywaiting · 24/09/2013 09:06

Congrats and welcome to the Maybies Dylan and LittleMissPear

snoozysleeper · 24/09/2013 09:17

Congratulations little and dylan Flowers

And moomin I wish I was 9 weeks along, time is passing so slowly!!

5+1 for me

Spirael · 24/09/2013 09:30

Morning all! I've noticed my nausea seems worse (or at least is starting earlier) this time around than with DD. Not sure whether it's just that I'm older, or I'm more aware of it, or just because it's a different pregnancy, or what.

I've broken out the sea bands already, which seems to be controlling it ok for now. Hopefully no-one at my work will be able to put two and two together. Fortunately I work in a very male dominated team, so they probably just think it's some kind of weird fashion statement!

Nibbling rice cakes seems to be helping too. And is hopefully better than the Cake I went for last time. I'm hoping not to gain too much weight this time around, it took me a year to lose it all last time.

No history of twins in either side of the family, which is good. We're going to be destitute enough with another one! I'm on basic SMP, so maternity leave is going to be frugal. I'll be back at work at 9 months, if not earlier.

DD was moved from the moses basket in our room to the cot in the nursery at about 3-4 months last time. In part because she hated being confined and liked sleeping like a starfish, but also because in the same room we all ended up disturbing each other.

We've moved house since then so could fit a cot in our bedroom now, but I'll probably aim to do the same again. Depends on feeding schedules though, I was lucky with DD that she would feed frantically all day but then slept through relatively early. If I'm still feeding multiple times at night, might be easier to keep DC2 in the same room!

I've noticed there's a sale on maternity clothes at Mothercare. I'm wondering whether to wander over in my lunch break and see if I can find any bargains. Anyone else bought any clothes yet?

NannyPlumForPM · 24/09/2013 09:34

I am desperate for maternity bra's so I think I'll moochy on over to see whats available. I'm currently in the process of printing off the Maternity policy (also in the NHS) so I think I'm entitled to maternity pay. Have to cross my fingers and hope!

I can sleep luckily but I just feel so so nauseaus all the time :( this ones a horror!

McBaby · 24/09/2013 09:52

I was only on smp up to end of July when I was due to go back to work, 90% for 6 weeka, £100 per week up to April then nothing till end of July, we coped fine and I decided I would rather stay at home with my DD as my prorities have changed massively. I have always been career focused and my DD was not plan we.

So I always planned to go back full time, then half way through mat leave I requested part time hours which was rejected by my work. Which made the decision easier for me.

I guess I am just telling my story as you never know how you will feel in 18 months time.

moominleigh94 · 24/09/2013 11:06

I've ordered some SeaBands for class; spoken to the lecturers and they've agreed with me when I said I want to keep it quiet for as long as possible really, so hopefully they'll help with morning sickness. I need to eat before lectures because we're always moving around, but it's not going to be easy to keep it a secret if I'm disappearing every so often. Are the sea bands good Spirael?

I need a new bra and possibly some new jeans too - these are starting to get tight, and if I'm going to buy new ones, I may as well buy maternity as they'll last me. We're heading into town today for OH to pick up a fancy dress costume for the party this weekend, anyone know if Primark has any maternity stuff? Or New Look/Next?

I don't get maternity pay (obviously) but my lecturers have told me I can freeze my studies at any time I want, and go back after the baby's born (so I'd be heading back next October, seeing as term ends at the end of May) and continue. Or I can do second year part time, which is what I'm leaning towards at the moment Smile

Cupcake1985 · 24/09/2013 11:28

misspear your like me im about 4 + 6 so hovering right at the end of this thread. Its quite strange as everyone is talking about sickness and weight gain things and ive not had anything yet. Though its like seeing a month into the future with is fun :)

Vikks · 24/09/2013 11:34

Just had my scan and we saw the heart beating!!!
I was so excited and the nurse told me I shouldn't get my hopes up because a lot can still go wrong. She told me that I shouldn't go on holiday tomorrow just in case I miscarry.
Little one was measuring 6 weeks today which is a few days behind where I thought I was.
I still feeling happy though and we’re trying to think positive.

BoogiesBunny & PJG Hope your scans were good x x

Welcome Dylan & MissPear congratulations!
