Land - alot of ppl on my post natal thread wash bottles in dish washer. Some have settings which sterilise. I think sterile if washed at 70deg or higher.

I have visions of my waters breaking. Nightmare is when family in law is all over... As they will be tomorrow evening Shock

legallyblond · 13/09/2013 21:08

Hello, hope all well.

We're doing fine, although I've been v teary and overwhelmed feeling since coming home (although its a millions times better than being in hospital!). It all seems do different than it was with DD when I was just in a baby moon heaven.... Nothing to do but care for her and doze. With DD, it seems like there's no time, and no time for sleep, and either DD or the twins are missing out on me...

But, so happy they're here safely! And the post CS pain is really fine now - I'm fine to potter about the house etc. I think that a good natural birth with no stitches etc would be a breeze, but, aside from the awful first 36 hours, this is certainly no worse than recovery after a good quick birth (8 hours) plus episiotomy and the wound etc is much easier than the episiotomy wound.

Still doing formula top ups for Vally but hoping against hope she gains Si that can change to ebm top ups then nothing....

Racheld33 · 13/09/2013 21:11

Brilliant legally keep enjoying every second xxxxx

Natalieand · 13/09/2013 21:14

Excellent legally those first ten days after are very teary an emotional even with one baby never mind too. Sounds like u are coping amazingly well I hope dh is supporting you too xx

rachel sorry to bombard u but dd is almost 3 and I've noticed recent her tongue is really a yellowy/orangey colour more towards the back of her tongue. Any ideas? X x

Wickedgirl · 13/09/2013 21:21

legally it's lovely to hear that you and the babies are doing ok

PseudoBadger · 13/09/2013 21:30

Hi all sorry I've just been too wiped out to update. Monitoring was fine (but long!) but they've made me a consultant appointment for next week to discuss how to proceed. I'm to keep monitoring BP and other symptoms and go to triage again if worried. My carpal tunnel and swelling in feet is really bad. So pleased it's the weekend and DP will be here to help wrestle DS :o

cuillereasoupe · 13/09/2013 21:30

They've been telling us at antenatal classes not to bother sterilising bottles, a hot wash will do. Interesting to see how advice changes between countries.

We did a big Ikea shop this afternoon too. Utterly knackering.

Shirehobbit · 13/09/2013 21:50

Huge hugs, Legally - can only imagine how full on twins + DD must be x
Fx for Valentina feeding Flowers

GTbaby · 13/09/2013 22:00

Cull I forget where you are, but surprised about advice against sterilising.

Legally i think your superwomen for bf twins, keep up the good work.

Mw said today to come in when I'm having 4or5 contractions in 10mins. Now that sounds like a contraction every 2mins, which is crazy... Is that general advice you have had?

Natalieand · 13/09/2013 22:02

I cannot believe we are 700 messages into a thread that was only created at 11am on Tuesday :-0. Was this thread 18 or 19 (I no someone did count them but can't remember who, sorry)

I used a cold water steraliser for dd and will use the same again I like the convenience of just changing the water every 24 hours and can just add a bottle to it as I go through the day as I don't have a dish washer so tend to just wash bottles up as I've finished with them

pseudo I'm sure u are wiped out after such a late night very little sleep then another early start. Good the monitoring went well. And they are arranging another appt for u too make a plan. Not so good about the pain and swelling I hope ds is good to u tonight and lets u get a full nights sleep. Xx

The dead arm from whooping cough vaccine kicked in a few hours ago, the joy .

Natalieand · 13/09/2013 22:04

Sorry GT we cross posted the advice here is if u are contracting every 3 minutes lasting 30 seconds or more. Xx

OrangeBlossom2 · 13/09/2013 22:19

Glad to hear you are doing so well legally.

Our nct lady said no strict guideline on when to go hospital, just when you feel you need to. But I know they can send you home and I wouldn't want to be going back and forwards. A rough guideline on contractions every x minutes is useful.m

Does anyone know if you can just turn up at a hospital? My current panic is that the MLU at kingston is closed. In that case I wonder if we could go to the mlu at st helier instead, or do you have to be registered there? Ideally want to avoid the delivery suite.

Tarlia · 13/09/2013 22:21

wicked if it happens in waitrose you might get something ;)

nat I wouldn't wash the bottles until ready to sterilise when baby arrives. They will just gather dust and have to be redone. Does hospital supply glass milk bottles ? If not then they will have a sterilising kitchen surely so you'd not be stuck.

cullie they don't sterilise in this country either, though that's nothing to go by in my opinion as most bf until 6 months, then it's hard to find anyone bfing. At 6 months they all switch to formula made using the hot water tap..

legally sorry to hear you are tearful. Sounds like you are doing an amazing job!

badger glad you will see Dr to see up a further plan.

I think clapham must be out celebrating tonight! Hope they gave her a lovely leaving present...come tell us!

Tarlia · 13/09/2013 22:24

Every 3 min :O I'd have had baby at home for sure! It's scary how late they make you wait. I really think you know yourself though as only you know your own pain ability.

OrangeBlossom2 · 13/09/2013 22:25

Welcome landsN

Yes congratulations on your last day Clapham!

MrsHoratioNelson · 13/09/2013 22:57

Evening all, glad to hear legally and the twins are doing well. Just back from our office party, which was a big black tie affair. Managed to do 2.5 hours and have a bit of a dance - not bad at 37 weeks with a sprained ankle!

My back hurts now though and all that standing and dancing has set off the braxton hicks. I expect I will feel it in the morning.

xfilefan · 13/09/2013 22:58

Orange - I think you have to be registered - Im registered at 2 hospitals in case im closer to one at the time due to spending time at my parents - my midwife said i had to be registered and registered me. I guess they wouldnt turn you out in to the street if you werent, bit they might try to transfer you or give priority to someone already registered or something perhaps?

xfilefan · 13/09/2013 22:59

(ps sorry-ive name changed recently but have been here since the beginnning but never get any time to post - the tread moves too fast for me to keep up ever so miss most posts/news!)

ananikifo · 14/09/2013 01:03

Orange talk to your midwife about what happens sin your area, ie if your mlu is closed do you have the choice to go to the other one, or do they expect you to go to delivery suite. In my booking in pack there was a sheet about which other hospitals I might be told to go to if mine was full.

PseudoBadger · 14/09/2013 03:45

Ah yes I remember this stage (SC at 36 weeks) - heartburn too bad to lie down in bed so have to 'sleep' on sofa :(

OP posts:
SeriousStuff · 14/09/2013 03:48

I don't know whether I'm coming or going anymore. Yesterday went something like this:

  • Wake up
  • Do some work
  • Have a 3hr nap
  • Spend late afternoon trying to catch up on work I should've been doing when napping
  • Failed
  • Watched some TV
  • Argued with DH
  • Went to bed early at 9pm, without any supper
  • Woke up around 1.30am and couldn't get back to sleep
  • Just ate my supper at 3.30am

Not sure what to do now! Stay awake or try sleeping again?!

SeriousStuff · 14/09/2013 03:54

Pseudo glad to see I have company out there!

PseudoBadger · 14/09/2013 03:57

Oh dear Serious, we've all had days like that! His knows how I was still working at this stage last pregnancy (but I don't remember feeling this shite!) - when do you finish? I'm dozing and watching Rita, Sue and Bob too...

OP posts:
PseudoBadger · 14/09/2013 03:57

*God knows

OP posts:
SeriousStuff · 14/09/2013 04:02

I finish when the baby comes. My days are now just filled with work and sleep. Don't even have time the inclination to exercise anymore.

I was looking forward to a lie-in tomorrow but the argument with DH threw my evening out a bit! Watching 'The Road to Coronation Street', wouldn't normally be my type of programme but there was nothing else on and now I'm quite sucked into it!

Heartburn's a b*tch, isn't it? Don't do what I did the other night and drink ginger beer. I thought it would help for some reason but it got so bad I still had it in the morning when I woke up.

Hope you get to sleep soon.
