Cold!? in a hospital? Aren't those places like furnaces?
I guess after all the exertions your body temp drops?
Is there no escape from nausea ever!!
Seems like anything can bring it on.

Angelfaces, my BH just felt like pressure too and a little like a period pain. My MW had to tell me what they were though!! She said that you feel the pain/pressure below but if you feel the top of your bump, it is all hard.
I have 7 weeks to go, so I am not far behind you! And a first time mum too, hence my niavety!

Marls001 · 30/07/2006 20:25

Mimpim - similarly, my SIL had to explain to me that I had been having BH's ... I just never got them with DS1 ...

Aahhh ... relaxing today; had a huge 3rd bday bash for DS1 last night! Had entire families, not just kids ... think everyone had fun ... every beer was emptied ... party lasted 5 hours instead of planned 2.5 ... A lot of work to put together (must have been 40 people), but well worth it !!!

I've been hibernating (don't feel like getting out of the house for anything) so needed a good party as much as DS!!
Only a few more social events for us these last 5 weeks ... after baby, no one will see DH or me again until November (unless they want to bring us dinner!) ...

pol26 · 30/07/2006 20:29

I hated throwing up in those cardboard bowls too, they are just too shallow. And didn't help that as DP held it he too was heaving... as if I could've helped it!

I too went all shivery- not particulary feeling cold but shaking and shivering when DD was placed on my tummy and in my arms. The mw said it was my body's way of dealing with it and the effects of my in-effective epidural wearing off... shivering can be a side effect. All in all I was just too happy to have DD in my arms and then the nurse said she had ran me a warm bath to soothe my graze and slight tear while she cleaned up DD. So DP helped me sort out her clothes and get me into the bath. It was nice and thoughtful... I felt really 'cared' for and am hoping for the same this time... That I feel ok and i've done ok- if you get me...

Sorry for another long one!

clairemow · 30/07/2006 20:34

is it really common to throw up during labour? Another pro-c-section pointer for me. Bit of an emetophobe...

pol26 · 30/07/2006 20:40

Well, I did... once and lady in bed next to me did all the way through and had no drugs... and lady opposite did after she had her c-sect... so I think no matter what it might happen. Think it depends if you're a 'sicky' person or not. Which I am. I get travel sick even looking at a car.

The guru of pregnancy and childbirth (Miriam Stoppard) put it quite nicely that it was like for nine months, you'd had this little frnace inside you helping heat you up (in this weather that's such a nice thought isn't it?) and when you've given birth it's suddenly not there and your body needs to get used to being te 'right' temperature again.

Our delivery suites are a bit less furnace like tan the rest of the hospital too - they say because all the exertion makes you hot and they want you to stay comfortable. IMO it's the NHS saving money but if that means an extra midwife, great!

ezridax · 30/07/2006 21:30

Hi to mimpin and angelfaces .
This message board is great cause it makes me realise that everything that i'm going through is normal.
Thanks ladies.
Although i don't post all the time reading your posts help to alay my fears - so cheers
I've been getting the stabbing pains almost like period pains recently but no tightening of the bump that i've noticed - do you think these are BH?
Was nice and breezy today 'up north'.
I tried to tackle some of my many duties, got some done but always more to do
Don't know if i said before but savers has advertised selling magicool at a reasonable price.

Hi everyone,

Have had friends to stay for the weekend which was great but woke up this morning feeling soo shattered and nauseous just from one day and night out and about - i keep thinking that i can still do most of what I could do before getting pg but obviously I can't anymore. I can sympathise with all the ladies with BH's. I had one on Friday and all the pain was in the groin/tops of my legs.
Am feeling jealous of everyone finishing work - still have 4 weeks to go as decided to finish at 36 weeks.

calvemjoe · 30/07/2006 21:50

Clairemow, didn't think there was such a thing as 'a bit of an emetophobe' . I think if you are an emetophobe you are far less likely to be sick anyway. It takes a hell of a lot for me to be sick because I hate it so much. Manage to surpress the instinct most of the time.

Had the day from hell today and spent most of the day sobbing. Nothing major, just a rough day that reached it's worst at 1pm when my steering wheel caught fire (minor electrical not flames and fire brigade) leaving me shaken and unable to get to work. Shocked me how much my mood affects ds, he was really clingy and only happy if he could see me bless him.

Off to bed now, hoping this cooler weather means I can get some sleep. Look after those bumps x

liquidclocks · 30/07/2006 23:13

Cal - I'd have bee pretty shaken too! what a thing to happen, never heard of that before at all! Hope you've had a nice relax this evening and managed to cheer yourself up a bit. I'm sure your DS was just expressing his concern for mummy in the only way he knew how, mine becomes incredibly clingy if I'm upset even if I think I'm hiding it. Little sweeties!

1Baby1Bump · 31/07/2006 07:19

throwing up is awful! especially when you are having a contraction at the same time!
i hung my head over the side of the pool and called to dh 'im gonna spew!'
he found a silver bowl thing on wheels on the floor lined with a bag abd positioned that accordingly.
feeling sorry, i asked the midwife 'am i gonna be ok?'
'fine dear, its just because your body cant handle all the pain'

handle all the pain? i thought. what the fuck am i gonna do then if my body cant handle it??!!

1Baby1Bump · 31/07/2006 07:42

ooooh! ive just got to share this with you all!
i totally hate my job and have managed to bribg my maternity start date forward from the 17th to the 3rd, this thursday! yay!

i never have to go back there again! im so excited.
im gonna burst!

thanks for that, now a question:

ds came a week early as he was so blinking huge he couldnt possibly stay in till his date. they reckon this one is bigger and i definately feel bigger. does anyone think may be lucky with this one too? he is due 6th sep.
anyone elses get earlier the more they had?

mumandlovingit · 31/07/2006 07:49

my first was 6 days early and my second came 8 days early but i went into hospital for a few weeks before hand alot of times through contracting but without dilation.very annoying when they monitor you and tell you you're having proper labour contractions then no dilation!! all settled down again and he turned up 8 days early & alot quicker than the first birth.
how much did your first weigh? my first was 6lb 12 1/4.my second weighed 8lb 3oz
good luck to you.
put your feet up and have a well deserved rest once you finish work

mabel1973 · 31/07/2006 10:08

Hi all!
Well it's really cooled down today I am even considering a walk to the shop.
Managed to get in to town on sat with my mum (and no DS - bliss), it was a bit humid and busy but I enjoyed it all the same.picked up my 5 free origins products that were free with the sunday times last week and spent my boots designer hair care voucher - felt like i was spoiling myself for free!
I decided to get myself another feeding bra from M&S, got it home - what a surprise, it doesn't fit! I don't know what they've done with their bra sizing, I had the same problem with my maternity bras and have been measured by 2 different people who came up with different sizes!
Saw the MW on friday - she was her usual disinterested self. She said the baby is long but quite skinny at the moment (hardly rocket science as I am 5'10" and DH is 6'4") and that he is lying quite low in my pelvis.
I was determined to pack my bag this weekend, but still haven't done it!

puppy · 31/07/2006 10:23

Morning all,

first day of maternity leave here

Welcome mimpim , that survial kit sounds fab, sounds like we are due at the same time, the 17th

Welcome angelfaces

Coriander I hope things have settled sown for you, how are you today?

Marls001 Happy 3rd birthday to your ds, sounds like it was a fab bash

Great to hear your LO is doing well on the sucking lysettes

oh calvemjoe hope you feeling better today, I would have been shaken too.

1baby1bump, enjoy your mat leave well done on bringing it forward.

The sickness came for me after labour when the nurses and dh was washing/weighing ds
Been nesting here at the weekend like crazy too, painted stairs and landing, tidyied and cleaned all of down stairs throughly (sp?), made new curtains to cover the shelving in the cloakroom and sorted through all the shelves. Packed hospital bags, done all laundry and now I am sat here thinking should I do all of upstairs today .

LexyB · 31/07/2006 10:47

Hi everyone sorry not posted for ages - so busy with work. Was due to finish on Thursday of last week but ended up taking it off sick as instead was an inpatient in the hospital I work in with tightenings / prematire labour and ? rupturede membranes. Was in from the friday until tuesday. Finally got out, had Wed and Thurs at home and had to go back in on Friday as tightenings got worse and my tummy so tender.
Docs decided I possibly had an infection in my womb ( called chorioamnionitis ) so was induced on Saturday and had a little girl early on Sunday morning. ( making it 3 July / September babies now )
She is called Keziah Star Unity. She weighed5lb 2oz and is doing well on SCBU.
I am fine now too, had lots of antibiotics so infection cleared. Have been let out of the hospital for a couple of hours as we live so close by and have popped back to sort out a few bits as my teenage boys are off to stay with my dad in France tomorrow ( pre - arranged but brilliant timing). Will probably stay in hospital for a couple more days so post more once I am discharged.
Mad to think I am starting my maternity leave today and the baby is already here.

puppy · 31/07/2006 10:57

Wow another arrival!

Congratulations LexyB and welcome to Keziah Star Unity, she has a lovely name

Glad you are both doing well

Coriander73 · 31/07/2006 11:26

Gosh another July addition!! Congratulations Lexyb - keep us posted. Hellkat, does DD have a name yet? Lysettes, how's the sucking coming along? Any pics you want to share with us?!

Hey Puppy, envious you've started m/l already, I've only got to Friday but I'd like to be off now as my sciatica has suddenly come back with a vengence. Have just made an appt to see osteopath this pm as just can't seem to shrug it off. Thankfully no BH for the past two nights but the old pubic bone is really sore today also...Christ...roll on baby as your Mummy is so fed up now!!! Still last night it was much cooler & I actually found myself searching for a little of the summer duvet...DH couldn't believe it!!!

Woodelf · 31/07/2006 12:15

Wow, another september baby come early - congrats LexyB! Keziah Star Unity is such a lovely name

First day of maternity leave today - feels v odd and I'm at a bit of a loose end as the car isn't working well and won't get looked at till thurs and the carpenter is STILL HERE piddling around with the doors. I want my house and my freedom back!

Welcome to mimpim and angelfaces. Been getting BH myself - really bizarre sensation like I'm a beachball about to birst!

Sympathies Mabel - long babies are likely for those of us who are taller than avg - me 5'9 DH 6'4 too!!! Think thats why they can't make up their minds about my due date - I know its around 22 Sep but a week earlier has been estimated on measurements.

Bella23 · 31/07/2006 12:16

LexyB - gosh congtrats, gorgeous name as well!!

Puppy - very jealous of you being on maternity leave already, I am finishing on the 11th and I just can't wait !!!!!

1baby1bump - well done on bringing your leave forward and getting out of a job you hate - know the feeling and its HOORAH !!

Well yes was actually cooler last night which meant a decent night's sleep - well if you don't cont the 5 trips to the loo!

Calvemjoe - lordy your steering wheel catching fire!!!! No wonder you had a weep, poor you !

Well not a lot else to report here, feeling HUGE and getting comfy is starting to be a mission!

compo · 31/07/2006 12:19

Morning everyone
Congratulations to LexyB - sorry to hear about the infection but great news that your lo is here safe and sound.
Welcome to the new people.
I haven't had any BH yet. I'm very glad the temperature has gone down. Hope it doesn't get too hot too soon!
We managed to order a new carpet over the weekend. We also went in search of a buggy board but I was quite shocked to discover they're £50. We also couldn't try them out in the shop and we really wanted to see if ds liked the idea before forking out the money. Dh is wittering on about a double buggy but as ds is 2 and a half I don't think it's worth it.

liquidclocks · 31/07/2006 12:26

3 babies! Congratulations Lexyb, love the name Keziah.

Found this from Hellkat today.

I've just made an appt to see HR on Monday afternoon so I can discuss my maternity leave. I hope to bring it forward too. My hip's getting worse the more I sit in the wrong position yet when I'm 'good' it's less bad - clear indication to stop I think. LO's stll breech, I'm just under 32 weeks now so he's only got 3/4 weeks to turn now before they start talking about artificially moving him round. Has anyone had an ECV? Everything I read says 'the risks are only small' but nowhere can I find anything that says what those 'small' risks are and statistics. I'd rather have a section and take 'no' risks if no-one can tell me since this is my last.

liquidclocks · 31/07/2006 12:28

Compo - you could always get a second hand phil and teds from ebay then sell it for practically what you paid for it 6 months later - better than a buggy board perhaps and about the same cost!

liquidclocks · 31/07/2006 12:49

Hellkat's little kitten

Gorgeous!
