Lysettes - glad to hear all is well with you and your LO.
I LOVE the name Jacob - i am having trouble thinking of names for my LO. I guess i'll have to give it a name at some point

What is this weather all about? I have my ceiling fans going 24/7 and still doesn't make a dent.

I had a student midwife examine me (palpate?) when i say she dug her hands into my stomach! It didn't hurt but it was very uncomfortable.

I'M SOOOOO FAT!!!!!
I can't use my arms without them rubing across my breasts!

Sorry for the moan.

I'm glad every1 is generally well

I'm trying to write my birthplan and I'm failing miserably. What has everyone else put into their's?

Hope everyone is coping better today onow it's a bit cooler.

Hellkat & Lysettes, thinking about you and your little ones. Hope you are getting on ok with your new arrivals.

pol26 · 27/07/2006 21:51

I put in mine that:

I wanted DP there all the time and for him to make descions if I couldn't.

I wanted gas and air to begin with but to have the option of an epidural. And no pethedine.

I would happily be left to get on with it as long as the mw popped in and out... and was there at the 'big bit'...

DP wanted to cut the cord like he did with DD.

I would prefer not to be cut or have a c-sect but if it was affecting the health of my bubba or me to go ahead with it.

I wanted the baby as it came, not cleaned- unless any probs.

I wanted my placenta delivery speeded up with an injection. I don'tmind if bubba had vit K injection.

HellKat · 28/07/2006 06:55

Good morning all,

Hellkats hubby here, just passing by to let you all know jen had little 1@9:19pm 25th July, and she weighed 3lb12oz.

her waters had broke monday morning around 2:45am and been up the hospital ever since.

mum and baby are doing very well

bye for now..

clairemow · 28/07/2006 08:31

Great to hear from you Hellkat's hubby! Congratulations, and we're all keeping our fingers crossed that your stay in hospital isn't too long.

compo · 28/07/2006 09:10

congratulations to Hellkat and to Hellkat's dh
I asked my midwife if I needed to bother with a birth plan and she said I can just tick the boxes at the back of the maternity notes. I was wondering about saying avoid forceps at all costs after reading that scary thread about them on here. But then I guess I'll let them do whatever they can to get lo to arrive safely. I did wonder about pethidine because I heard it can make the baby sleepy for feeding so I asked my midwife. She said not to worry and that it can give me some much need few hours sleep if things are taking a long time. I just went with the flow last time, started with gas and air... then epidural, then epistomomy (luckily didn't have any problems with infected stitches etc).

Morning ladies

Well its cooler today, thank god! So lovely to actually feel a breeze.

Haven't thought about a birthplan - will have a look and jot down a few ideas.

With our early deliveries its all starting to feel very real .............

mabel1973 · 28/07/2006 10:47

hi all,
well we had quite a bit of rain here yesterday afetrnoon, but it's heating up here again. I managed to get my pram and carseat washed and cleaned yesterday without DS around. Don't know about you, but I find it very odd when he's not at home I still found myself going to the window every time I heard a tractor drive past and had to restrain myself from shouting 'tractor' (his latest obsession) - how sad am i?
Haven't done my birth plan yet, other than ordered my tens machine, my midwife says we won't do it til 36 weeks, but I am pretty sure what I want to do, although had forgotton about placenta delivery and vitamin K.
Compo - I had pethidine last time, I will try and avoid having it again as it made me throw up, it did make DS sleepy, but to be honest that was a welcome relief, but a shock to the system when it wore off and he found his lungs!
I am waiting for my midwife to arrive at the moment, it is an 'am' appointment, but last time she turned up at 12.45pm. How come when you're pregnant they are always late, but once you've had the baby and could do with a bit more time in the monrings they arrive at 9 on the dot??!

Coriander73 · 28/07/2006 11:03

Can someone tell me where all this rain is then??!!! We were promised HUGE thunderstorms last night which never materialised...although they did in both neighbouring counties..!!! Yes, a couple of degrees cooler but please just rain a little...please!!!!

Birth plan?...No plan...other than pack my bag & if I plead for an epidural I jolly well expect one there & then..!!!!!!! Have had BH for the 4th morning in a row & err...getting a little scared...!!!

Clairemow...I understand your excitement about the poo!!!!!! I do hope you treated youself to a small G & T at least?! Well, tonic water, lemon & just letting the gin bounce of the ice cubes - all psychiological you know!!

A WEEK TODAY I FINISH WORK.... It's getting harder to feel motivated.....so much to do yet my enthusiasm & energy is fast slipping...

appyday · 28/07/2006 11:14

Congratulations to hellcat, hubby and welcome to new DD!
Lysettes lovely to hear things are going well, I think lots of lo's don't get the sucking lark immediately.
Well, it's cooler today even though the sun is shining. So do I crack on with gardening and housework or have a lazy, restful day without DH and DD? Hmmm let me see!
As for lists and packing and preparation, well I've just gone into a panic again. My mind goes blank, all I know is I need a chest of drawers, some nappies and um,um...
Clairemow-well done with the poo,at first DD found the whole potty thing much easier when she was naked.

appyday · 28/07/2006 11:18

Cori- just read yours, am so jealous of you finishing work, I've had this week off but now I've got 3 weeks left. Oh, the waiting...

mabel1973 · 28/07/2006 11:23

the nesting thing is getting out of control now - have just cleaned my greenhouse. Think I need help....

appyday · 28/07/2006 11:28

Mabel - LOL

clairemow · 28/07/2006 13:22

Mabel, you cleaned the greenhouse??!!!??!? You really are nesting - are you planning on having the baby sleep in there then?!

Found a good trick with the G&T - smear gin round the top of the glass, fill with tonic, ice and lemon, and it tastes remarkably like a "proper" one!! And you can have as many as you like!!!!

Still hot here today, although a little breeze. and last night was a lot cooler. DS driving me mad, as he keeps climbing on his windowsill instead of having a nap - not only annoying, but dangerous too. Trying to work out how to move the furniture in his very small room so he can't use the bedstead as a leg up...

liquidclocks · 28/07/2006 13:23

Mabel - I'm scrubbing my carpets - perhaps we could set up a support group!

I'm so envious of all of you stopping work soon - I'm wishing I hadn't said I'll work so long now, mind you, I couldn't forsee this extreme weather or th hip problems. I'm considering asking for a sick note at the beginning of september if it doesn't ease off - has anyone else done this? Does it count as part of your maternity leave? (I'm only entitled to 3 months if I want pay as my contract finishes in April and I don't want to waste any).

pol26 · 28/07/2006 14:32

Liquidclocks- from what I remember... if you take a sick day from 29weeks onwards (for any length of time) your employer can 'make' you take it as mat leave... not 100% sure but think thats how it works.

HK and hubby and DD- wow, glad you're all ok and doing well.

It just seems that it is going to happen for us all v.soon now... since lysettes and HK have 'popped' who will be next?

homemama · 28/07/2006 14:52

Liquid, if you have a sicknote within 4wks of when your mat leave is due to start, I'm pretty sure it makes your mat leave kick in. Double check but it's something like that.

I am starting to really panic that I have nothing ready. New car seat is on order as lasttime we had the M&P Prima whatnot which clicked into the base. A good idea in theory but the angle of it meant that DS's head was forever in his lap in the early days. Not good. We've gone for an isofix one this time. The maxi-cosi one. Hopefully a better angle. Better be at £200! Hope it sells on ebay afterwards as they only do until about 9mths.

Mabel, lol at greenhouse cleaning. I'm not that bad yet!

I had diamorphine last time rather than pethidine. I really want to avoid it this time as it left me out of control. The main points of my birthplan are;

  1. DH to make decisions if I can't
  2. No forceps unless baby's life is in danger
  3. No episiotomy unless tear is going to be significant. (my sister was told she needed one but refused. She ended up with 3 small grazes and no need for stitches)
  4. Low lighting throughout
  5. Baby handed straight to me without towel rub unless problem 6)Part Physiological 3rd stage. ie Not to be given the injection on delivery. For the cord not to be cut until it stops pulsating then I am happy to be given the injection.
  6. DH to cut the cord

I am also happy to be left until the 'end' bit.

It suddenly feels so real and close.

Appyday, hope you opted for the lazy day!

clairemow · 28/07/2006 14:55

Liquid, I think Pol's right - there is a date after which if you take pregnancy related sick leave they can make you classify it as the start of maternity leave. My benefits book from work says that mat leave can start no earlier than 11 weeks before the expected week of confinement ("EWC"), unless medical reasons dictate. Then if you're absent from work due to a pregnancy related illness during the 4 weeks before EWC, your mat leave automatically starts. So it depends when you were planning to start mat leave, I guess.

It goes on to say you can't return to work for 2 weeks after the baby's born - can you imagine?!?!?!

Jealous of all the nesting instincts going on - I just feel like flopping down on the sofa and never getting up. Absolutely no nesting going on whatsoever, there are crumbs all over the carpet and I can't even muster up the energy to get out the hoover.

pol26 · 28/07/2006 15:13

Homemamma- from experience in working in nursery retail the primmo viaggio carseat is v.upright but I think they have altered it. We had the maxi cosi last time and is much more roomy than most others and fab! We have opted for the bebe confort this time tho but I still have the maxi cosi one too.

As for nesting- it comes in fits and starts... Mostly feeling teary- I think due to a combination of the heat, DP being so bloody uselees- why is it one day they are so lovely and helpful then the next a chauvanistic pig?, being tired, DD screaming and hitting at mo, and knowing I have so much to do!!! The nesting is on a back burner as just too tired.

homemama · 28/07/2006 15:17

Thanks Pol. Do you know if the isofix one is the same as the carrycot one but just with an isofix base IYKWIM?

I remember putting DS in a friend's maxi-cosi when he was 3mths old and he seemed so snug. Hoping this one is the same.

pol26 · 28/07/2006 15:40

Sorry i'm not too sure... does their website show/tell you???

appyday · 28/07/2006 16:06

Opted for lazy day then went into shed to put something away, saw some paint and the kitchen is now repainted. So sorry mabel, I shouldn't have laughed, but am now definately going to do nothing for the next hour. I think!

mandaz · 28/07/2006 18:13

Ohhh! I've had no internet connection for the last few days and I've missed so much!

Firstly, big congratulations to Lysettes and HellKat. Hope both bubbas are doing well. How exciting!

I've had a busy few days. Spent yesterday walking round a maze in maize at a local farm with my mate and her DD. It was really warm and I totally flaked out afterwards but I really enjoyed it.

Today I went for my first class at hospital. I decided against NCT classes as I can't really afford them but I have to say that the hospital one was very good. There was only myself and another lady who's 35 weeks so we had chance to ask lots of questions etc. I'm looking forward to the next one which is on Wednesday and then I see my consultant on Thursday.

I have written my birth plan - not that there's much to it! I've basically said that I have an open mind as to pain relief, c-sections, cuts/tears etc and want to just go with the flow on the day. I'm quite happy to be advised by the mw/doctors and have no strong feelings about anything other than I want to hold LO straight away and want the mw to cut the cord.

Hope everyone is surviving in the heat ok. The paper this morning said that August is going to be hotter than July - I think I'm just going to move into the freezer section of Asda for a month Sorry for the long post!

mimpim · 28/07/2006 19:40

Hello, I am new to this page but am duein september so thought I might add my bit
I am finished work tomorrow with seven weeks to go from there. Not sure if this was a wise move or not but, there you go.
I have to be careful with doing too much (early morning sickness re-occurs if I get stressed) so I am jealous of you guys who seem to be doing loads of nesting!
Painting a whole room! I glossed two doorways and a window sill weeks ago and was ill for a day!!
It will be V hard to resist doing too much!
No matter, it's a blinkin good excuse to do nothing eh?!

1Baby1Bump · 28/07/2006 19:41
