(of august)

much to managers delight!

pol26 · 28/07/2006 19:43

Hello new preg lady!!!!

Well, nesting here is limited too as usually brings on the tears if I do too much... and i'm so knackered as not sleeping due to the heat.

I stopped working at week 30! And i'm now 33 on Monday- horrah....!!! 7 weeks, or less (or more if i'm overdue )

Coriander73 · 28/07/2006 21:11

I had a funny turn earlier...very queasy, felt crap, trying to bath DD at the time. Having BH as we speak....really don't think it's anything to worry about but you can't help but wonder at back of your mind what if I don't make it to September? Pubic pain really sore too...feels like there's almost a parting of the waves so to speak! Christ, too late now eh?

pol26 · 28/07/2006 21:14

Cori- I empathise with you!!! Have been having lots of irratic strong BH and my pubic bone feels like someone has an axe to it...! Have too begun the mad panic of what if i'm this early... what if 40 weeks is just a joke for me... and all other possible problems. Think it's because usually i'm so planned and organised and obviously bubbas come when they are ready not their poor mummies who maybe need an odd few weeks more...

1Baby1Bump · 28/07/2006 21:15

am 34 weeks and feel like he's half out already!

appyday · 28/07/2006 21:16

Cori just keep your legs crossed until after DD's birthday!

Lysettes · 28/07/2006 22:41

hey everyone - you poor things with all the pain - am thinking of you all. and of course they say no painkillers except paracetomol - although after the section, i had paracetomol every four hours and once you have a couple of days it coes actually work...

it's sooooo hot isn't it! even though we had some massive thunderstorms yesterday, it hasn't done anything at all

we had some good sucks today, so things are improving somewhat! it's slow, but we will get there

my birth plan had i would like / i would not like - think whether you want students in there, whether you want them to offer you an epidural or you want to have to ask for it, if anyone has bought the homeopathic kit (which by the way is great, although i only got to use a couple of things in it!) whether you want to use that to speed up contractions if you are induced rather than more drugs very quickly, and of course the all important skin to skin straight away - you can try and breastfeed straight after delivery if you want.

sorry for the long post, thought these might be helpful!

lol

liquidclocks · 29/07/2006 10:14

Good morning all! - it really is, not a patch of blue sky in sight, I've never seen such a beautiful sight...

Lysettes - so pleased to hear about Jake's sucks, that must be a relief to know he can. I hope he continues to do as well today.

Cori - hope your BH's settled down overnight and LO's still firmly in place. I've been having 'turns' like that too, nausea, dizziness, feeling like there's pressure down there and then a run of BH's. I asked the miwife and she said it might be just LO moving and stimulating just the wrong point.

Thanks for the help with regards to sick/maternity leave. I'm going to ring my HR dept on monday for an informal unofficial chat. I'm thinking about jst lumping all the rest of my annual leave together as I can't see that I'll have a problem getting from January to April without a holiday that would give me just over 3 weeks before baby arrives and if I really try I'm sure I can manage another 5 weeks at work.

pol26 · 29/07/2006 11:10

Lysettes! Wow, your little boy is getting the 'milk thing!' Well done!

Other than that it's toooooooo hot still. We have had about six drops of rain for as long as I can rememeber and so jealous of you ladies who are getting storms... It's too hot.

What's more DP has been some what more 'up for it' in this weather and I can't bear to be grappled with feeling this hot. Sorry if it's tmi! But really having to fend him off...

Hoping it cools down and then I can stop eating ice and freezing bottled water and eating tesco's out of ice lollies...

calvemjoe · 29/07/2006 19:01

Lol about the ice pol, went to Mc Donalds earlier and the woman who served me just couldn't get her head around 'large ice', I had to keep saying, more please!

I think my problem with the birth plan is that I know my last one went up in smoke and all I really want is a healthy lo, however she gets here. Last time I had all of these ideas of 'the perfect birth' and now I know that doesn't really happen it's making it hard to make any decisions. Have ended up writing one similar to pol's, just the important things that I would like to have on paper.

Lysettes, glad your lo is learning to suck. It took ds 5 days and he was born at 42 weeks, boys are just lazy (and very cute).

I'm not nesting at all but I think that's because we are moving. The house we're in now isn't home, just a roof till we get into our new home. Should imagine I'll be nesting like mad as soon as we move (if we move, why do they make it so difficult)

Look after those bumps ladies x

mimpim · 29/07/2006 19:23

Hooray! Last day today!
That is me done and dusted! Had a really good one too. The girls got me a maternity leave survival kit! Chocolates biscuits, crisps and sweeties. A Mills and Boon Novel! Bubble bath and candles! Fab!! Was not expecting it at all.
Seven and a half weeks and counting! DH thinks it will be fab to have me at home to greet him like a little wife!!
Sorry to be ignorant but what is BH and does LO mean little one?

calvemjoe · 29/07/2006 19:51

Braxton Hicks and Little One.

that you have finished, I've got another week to go and it's dragging. The girls brought in chocolate cake for me tonight tho and a card cause they're all off next weekend, so I've said bye to half my team!

liquidclocks · 30/07/2006 12:23

My DH has found a great book that some of you might want to get to inspire your other halves! It's called 'Dad Stuff' by Steve Caplin and Simon Rose (he got it from Asda). It's kept me occupied all morning! It's full of all those tricks you Dad/Grandad used to do (how stick a skewer through alloons, 'break' and reset your nose, etc) and make you laugh along with car games, trivia - all 'Dad' survival stuff! Not bad for mums either actually...

Have a good Sunday everyone!

clairemow · 30/07/2006 13:04

Well we had a lovely cool day here yesterday, went down to the harbour in the evening and actually had to put a fleece on, and got soaked coming home. It was a real relief! Today thought the blue skies are back, but it does feel fresher.

Had a really scary turn yesterday while we were walking along, really strong BH, and I thought we were in for it. Luckily, after stopping, bending over and breathing heavily it finally went away and has been fine since... My friend had a baby on Friday, and I dreamt that mine arrived early. I am going to go and pack my bag now just in case.

mandaz · 30/07/2006 14:04

I'm glad I've managed to catch up with the posts. I've been quite worried about the pains I've been getting in the lower pelvis/pubic area over the past week but now I see that other people are getting them too. It feels like I'm being stabbed with needles when I walk/go up or down stairs or turn over in bed. As for sleeping, it's almost impossible! If I turn on my side I get the stabbing pains and if I lay on my back I feel like I need to wee constantly. Oh the joys of pregnancy!

It's a tad cooler here today but not much. I'm trying to find one of those hand held fans but everywhere seems to be sold out.

Only 6 weeks to due date now !!!

mimpim · 30/07/2006 14:10

How silly am I? I have only just realised that I have been having a few BH's! I just thought they were twinges really, like period pains but I never really got those before so I didn't worry. But my midwife informed me that they are BH!
I am a first time mum! I just didn't know!! I do now though! I am lucky they have come on so gently eh !!
Seven weeks to go, I haven't even thought about a birth plan! The midwives up here are lovely, I met them at the beginning of my pregnancy as I suffered from that hyperthingy and needed rehydrating. So I met them all then, and would trust them to tell me what was best. I think I will just be winging it! I would rather not have drugs if I can avoid it, incase they make me sick which I really hate now! But I will accept any advice given if it comes to it.
Is it bad to be so indecisive??

liquidclocks · 30/07/2006 14:11

Mandaz - mothercare had some mini clip on fans that are meant for buggies, maybe you could get a double use out of them?

liquidclocks · 30/07/2006 14:16

mimpim - it's ok to write a really vague birthplan but something is better than nothing. For example I've put that I'll see how it goes with gas and air but I'd like the option of an epidural, don't really want pethidine. Would like baby delivered onto my tummy, DH to cut cord. I'm happy for LO to have vit K injection and I'd like the injection to speed up delivery of placenta. It's also helpful for them to know wheter you'd be dead against an episiotomy/c-section or whether you'd be ok with it if they felt it was necessary as it enables them to just get on with it.

pol26 · 30/07/2006 14:45

There are little desk fans and hand held ones in poundland... !!! My MIL has brought me one for my bag and kitchen and lounge so i'm never without one!

Have also finished my birth plan, as I put on here, just with the main points- after all how can you actually plan for something you have little control over??? Had the same sort of thing for DD too. I definately know that I don't want pethidine or any other similar opiate... I don't want to run the risk of feeling out of it.

One thing I would say though is that it wasn't the drugs that made me feel sick but the actual contration pain which made me sick- mw said my bodies way of coping although didn't feel like it at the time... Luckily only threw up once so not too bad in the grand scheme of things. Just hoping this birth is as 'enjoyable' (if they can be) as my DD's and runs as smoothly although having to get MIL involved may hinder that some what

Sorry to waffle on.

Hope the weather is abit cooler for you all!

mandaz · 30/07/2006 14:50

Thanks Liquidclocks, will check that out. Am in desperate need of cooling air!

mimpim · 30/07/2006 16:47

Hmmm. Thanks for that liquidclocks. I guess it is something I ought to have something written down for. I will speak to my MW about it. Am I meant to write it in my notes somewhere?
TBH no-one has asked me about it all so I had put little thought into it. I guess thats cos I am only 33 weeks, no need to panic for a few more weeks. Will see the MW at 36 so maybe that was when she was going to ask?
No need for essay writing then ;), just wee notes on each option ie yes to G&A, would consider pethidine etc.
Thanks again for that.

mimpim · 30/07/2006 16:51

Oh No!!
I thought it was the drugs that would make me queasy!
Boo! I really hate being sick and those wee paper bowls they gave me in the hospital at 3 months just seemed so inadequate!! I could see it splashing back at me. sorry, too graffic.
Well, the thought of using one when I was in before seemed to hinder me, maybe mind over matter will work again.
Fingers crossed!

liquidclocks · 30/07/2006 17:20

mimpim - there should be a birth plan section in your ante-natal notes. I didn't do one for DS but in hindsight I wish I had put those main points down. One extra thing to what I said already - after I had DS I felt incredibly cold and shivery and also nauseous. Obviously skin to skin contact is great but I was so cold and will be making sure I have a nice warm blanket this time. They also automatically brought me tea and toast which was very thoughtful but the sight of it made me vomit - this time there'll be note to ask me before bringing anything in!

angelfaces · 30/07/2006 17:40

Hiya all, i'm new to this page, due in 6 and a half weeks which sounds REALLY close now that i'm typing it! This is my first baby and i'm real nervous!!! Not had any BH's like most of you, well not that i know of; what's it feel like??

liquidclocks · 30/07/2006 17:50

Hello! A BH is when your tummy tightens up - you can tell if it's happening if you poke your bump a bit and it feels hard all over. They're not usually painful but can be a bit uncomfortable, I find especially if I'm walking somewhere or lifting DS. They tend to get more frequent and more uncomfortable the nearer you get to the end. They're nothing like 'real' ones though - you'll know when they happen!
