Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thank you all for all your kind words. I have just got off the phone to the MW at the alternative hospital and she said that I can stay where I am for the moment and transfer later on if I end up having to have a hospital birth. Apparently its quite common, can't think why Hmm . I think I will inform MW tomorrow that I will be going to my choice of hospital even in an emergency. I'll put it in the birth plan!!

Comms and Nomaybe sorry to hear that you both feeling rough. Shall be glad that I am not and send you some feeling better vibes, I am happy to share mine.

14 weeks one day today and now feeling like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders.

faithfulandtruthful · 10/09/2013 14:30

Joll I will keep everything crossed for you that you get signed off, I think I am so lucky that despite my long term heath condition the MW is quite happy for me to birth where I feel most comfortable.

feeling glad to be me

FoxMulder · 10/09/2013 14:35

I don't understand the whole thing with NHS trusts & partnerships & whatnot (and I used to work for the NHS!) I just know I don't like the idea of being transferred down the motorway when I'm in labour, even if the MLU is lovely.

commsgirl · 10/09/2013 14:38

F&T Glad to hear you feeling positive :)

Fox That's exactly my feeling on it. Our MLU is absolutely lovely, but having to be transferred mid labour is my worst nightmare!

FoxMulder · 10/09/2013 14:45

and it seems to happen A LOT from what I've heard anecdotally. Don't know how I'd get the stats, I can't seem to find out anything about either hospital on t'internet.

MTBMummy · 10/09/2013 15:14

F&T you can change at any point you want (although during labour may be a little late) I changed 10 weeks before I was due to one in another county with no problem at all - just tell your midwife you've changed your mind.

MTBMummy · 10/09/2013 15:24

Sorry posted before reading to the end - that'll teach me!

faithfulandtruthful · 10/09/2013 15:40

MTB You made me smile, thanks for the insight.

On the subject of to NCT or not just read an interesting article comparing NHS to NCT.

FoxMulder · 10/09/2013 15:50

Interesting read F&T. I actually like the sound of the NHS one better! Interactive stuff makes me all cringy.

mimili · 10/09/2013 15:54

It's busy busy in here today! Has anyone else received their maternity exemption card/FW8? Apparently the midwife should have asked me to sign the forms at booking in.

FoxMulder · 10/09/2013 15:58

Yes, and have already used it once! Whoop. Unfortunately arrived too late for the first prescription, but nevermind.

I was given the forms at booking in but then was too sick to fill them in for ages.

SoSurprised · 10/09/2013 15:59

I got mine from the GP mimili. I just chose my closest hospital as I dnt want to have to drive far in case of an emergency

mimili · 10/09/2013 16:08

Grrrr! I am beginning to feel like the care/attention to detail around here is a bit slack. I'm chasing everything. Appointments, exemptions, just the stuff that everyone else is told about or is automatically done for them.

Am in the GP waiting room now (for something else) but feel like I am going to have to be demanding.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 10/09/2013 16:14

Also filled my exemption forms in with the GP when I first went Mimii. How frustrating for you Sad

Thanks Comms. I will be going back next week to see her. No way am I ready for work yet. hope you start to feel better x

Good news F&T!

FoxMulder · 10/09/2013 16:16

I've had to make all my own appointments, if it helps Mimili

PramQueen1971 · 10/09/2013 16:20

I've just rescued a baby squirrel from the side of a main road! It was absolutely terrified at the cars whizzing past and there was a park behind me so I picked it up and hurled it over the wall so that it could find its mummy. I am very proud of myself, especially as a man walking past wouldn't help: 'Fuck that, it might bite me'.

faithfulandtruthful · 10/09/2013 16:24

mimilli I haven't got mine but I haven't seen my GP, only spoke to the locum on the phone to confirm I was preggers and only seen MW once (but will see her again on Thurs) and had my 12 week scan. Booked 20week scan whilst at 12 week scan. Luckily I haven't needed any 'scripts for anything so not a problem.

MummyPig24 · 10/09/2013 16:29

I still haven't sent off my exemption form, it's been sitting in my bag.

Glad you got the hospital palaver sorted out f&t, that kind of thing can be so stressful.

I've felt good again today. A bit sick earlier on but I'm not feeling sick right now which is a massive turn around from last week when I felt sick the whole time. Dd did baby ballet today for the first time and it was just too bloody cute!

FoxMulder · 10/09/2013 16:35

Nice work Pram! Good on you.

I fell over a hedgehog last night. He was OK though. I gave him peanuts to say sorry.

NoMaybeAboutIt · 10/09/2013 16:38

Grin Fox

Well done Prammy Grin I felt so chuffed the day I rescued a baby bird

IceNoSlice · 10/09/2013 16:44

So I heard the heartbeat at the MW appointment, yay! Everything fine.

That article pretty much sums up my experience, F&T, except NCT was £130 not £300 for us. In addition, we had a 'practice' CS where everyone took a role, anesthetist etc.

I kept in touch with all the NCT group (7 couples), none of the NHS one (15 couples). We're having a joint 1st birthday party with the NCT group on Sunday Smile

Prambo baby squirrel!!! Amazing!

PramQueen1971 · 10/09/2013 16:49

What if I don't like the other mums I meet at antenatal classes? What if all they talk about is kids? I hate listening to mums rabbiting about their children, it's so boring.

PramQueen1971 · 10/09/2013 16:49

Fox, either that hedgehog was massive or you need glasses Grin

Beccadugs · 10/09/2013 16:54

pram the squirrel saviour!!

I am excited as I'm having supper with my four brothers this evening, and we're going to tell them about the baby. They are all ages between 21 and 25, so will be interesting to see their reactions!

FoxMulder · 10/09/2013 16:55

Yey, Ice Smile

I'm not sure I could handle all this role playing at the NCT classes. I might shrivel up and die. I'm a bit introverted and rather uptight and British when it comes to things like that.

Pram I don't think you have to be friends with the other mums. It's probably not compulsory.

The hedgehog was pretty big, but crucially it was dark and it was in the middle of my garden path!
