So I used the magic 1000th post in the last thread... ooops Grin

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
vix206 · 13/09/2013 11:31

I feel like I have a cold brewing too Eeyoreish. Tight throat, hot eyes and the sniffles...Just when I was feeling so brilliant too! Its the change of weather I tell you....

vix206 · 13/09/2013 11:32

Xmas bargains thread here for anyone interested! Apologies to those who hate talk of it so early!!

sunflowered · 13/09/2013 11:40

Feel for you eeyoreish - I still have scary flashbacks to my tightening trips to the orthodontist.

Just had my 16 week appointment - baby has a heartbeat (in the general bump area so it's not all stodge Grin ) blood tests normal and 22/25 week appointments booked - all starting to feel a bit more real.

Ikea trip for me tomorrow as well. All I need is the shell of a small kitchen cupboard and our renovations will be complete. However, unpacking the stockpile of tealights, kitchen gadgets, and other unnecessary knicknacks is likely to mean the construction of said cupboard has to wait a while.

Read a babynames thread earlier that really irritated me possibly irrationally - the op wanted suggestions for names to go with Byron and her current list included Caspian, Tiberius and Aegeaus (her dh's other suggestion was Stalin). The comments were 50/50 'I love those names have you thought about Antigone' and 'Don't be ridiculous the poor child' but what really wound me up was one of the aegeaus-lovers saying 'we here in London are becoming more open minded about names'. told you it was irrational but I've got heartburn and a pounding headache and a rant is the only thing that will help either of them Felt like replying that here in Kent we are also open minded about names but ffs there are no baby Stalins running around our playgrounds

marzipanned · 13/09/2013 12:08

Thanks for all the kind house comments! Did a thread in Property/DIY about it and was recommended that I shouldn't be in the house while treatment is carried out as they use very strong chemicals which could be harmful to baby... misskat I WISH re the dream house but we have actually been looking for a while now and have decided to build our own as nothing round here really appeals!

Anyway it looks like at the very least we'll be moving into a short term rental. Am amazed by those of you who moved when heavily pregnant/with newborns!!

sunflowered your post did make me laugh, I actually really like Caspian (no way would DH ever allow it though!) but Stalin?!! WHAT?! Why not just call your child Hitler Mugabe Assad and be done with it?!

marzipanned · 13/09/2013 12:14

PS My friend gave me a pair of maternity trousers. What a revelation!! Any other small bumps who don't think they need them yet... get them anyway! SOOO comfy. Amazing.

EeyoreIsh · 13/09/2013 12:29

Who would call their child Stalin, that's awful!

I've made myself a very spicy soup for lunch to shake the cold. I'm not sure it needed the extra chilli though Grin

the brace will be worth it, although I'll be having jaw surgery once baby is here to straighten my jaw out. I can't say I'm looking forward to baby+surgery. I hope baby gets DH's normal jaw genes!

sunflowered · 13/09/2013 13:16

London people obviously - they're 'open minded'

I quite like Caspian too. Working on dh to get Caspar onto the list but he thinks it's too friendly ghost.

You poor thing with surgery to prepare for. It will all be worth it though - after 9 years wired up I was unrecognisable and more importantly my mouth worked. Another one here hoping the bambino gets dh's teeth/jaw but please not his terrible coordination or his nose if it's a girl

sunflowered · 13/09/2013 13:21

Grin at hitler mugabe assad.

EeyoreIsh · 13/09/2013 13:57

sunflower you had braces for that long?! wow. I'll stop complaining!

sunflowered · 13/09/2013 14:07

Sadly yes. Started at 8 and finished at 16. The second half of that was redoing the benefits of the first half which were all undone when I (obviously unexpectedly) grew and got my remaining adult teeth. Doh. Money hungy dentists No surgery though, just uncomfortable every now and then - and I'm now too much of a wimp to even go for a checkup so have big respect for anyone going through it as an adult - especially the surgery.

EeyoreIsh · 13/09/2013 14:10

I'm getting it on the nhs, thankfully as otherwise it'd be unaffordable. I was basically given the choice of doing it now or waiting until my remaining baby teeth fall out. I went for now so I can have more benefit from finally having a proper bite and nice straight teeth! Sometimes I lurve the nhs.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 13/09/2013 14:52

I have to say I'm really not a fan of pretentious names, though it's probably heresy to say that on MN Grin

Still haven't given any thought to names for this one. Maybe finding out whether it's pink or blue will spur me on to open the dreaded baby names book again... Confused I have, however, probably firmly painted myself into the 'traditional names' corner by giving both my boys Biblical names.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 13/09/2013 14:55

Oh and I do have a pregnancy related moan - haven't yet had my exemption certificate through - been badgering my MW who up til now has just said 'It should have turned up by now' - eventually rang the Community MWs number and they gave me the number of the health costs people who receive all the forms from MWs and send out Mat. Exemption Certificates. No record of me at all. Nothing received from my MW Angry so now I have to go back to GP surgery, get an FW8 form, arrange for GP to countersign it to verify that I am indeed pregnant, and send it off myself. Aaarrrrgh!

sunflowered · 13/09/2013 15:22

Was about to agree with eeyore about loving the nhs then read your post sugarmice... I love the nhs but wish some bits worked better. You'd think that an organisation that can operate on people's brains/replace vital organs/carry out in-utero treatment on unborn babies would be able to fill out a simple form and post it when it says it will.

jazzcat28 · 13/09/2013 15:31

Sugar that's rubbish, though I had to send mine off myself anyway!

Handed in the dissertation today - such a weight off my shoulders! I'm looking forward to celebrating tonight with a microwave jam sponge and custard.... Oh how times have changed!

OP posts:
tinypolkadot · 13/09/2013 15:39

sugar I had to send mine off too, I had to ask my mw for the forms at my 16 week appointment. It took just over a week to arrive. Free dental treatment here I come (haven't been for over 7 years....slightly worried!)

marzi I'm wearing my first pair of over the bump jeans and they are amazing! Even more amazing is when I tug them up and I can feel what I think is my uterus getting hoisted up too

Littleen · 13/09/2013 16:09

EeyeoreIsh - hope your braces feel better now, I know how you feel, had them too years ago!

jasscat good job on handing in your dissertation! must feel so good :)

Whilst my bump still just looks like extra pie, I can very clearly feel my uterus when lying down, and also can feel baby moving - but only ever on the left side of my tummy, and most of the time only when I lie down on my left side. Do feel it now and then when sat/stood up too, but it seems to prefer faffing when I am still :P

EeyoreIsh · 13/09/2013 16:26

jazz well done on your dissertation, you must be so relieved to have got it in!

braces are a good excuse to have chippy chips tonight Grin what bump I have is actually cake and chips Grin

marzipanned · 13/09/2013 16:54

Yeah jazz that's fab, well done you!! Go wild with your microwave sponge Grin I am so impressed!

I hadn't felt much movement today so had a mug of sugary tea and she gave me a few strong ones - anyone not certain if they're feeling kicks or not, maybe give a bit of sugar and caffeine a try? (I only have caffeine about once a week, so might have had a bigger impact on me than if you have every day though...)

Milkandtwo · 13/09/2013 17:04

Had 20 week scan today, all good and well (phew) and we're team blue! Smile

laura0007 · 13/09/2013 17:25

Yay milk congrats! Are boys outweighing the girls so far?

tinypolkadot · 13/09/2013 17:27

Congrats milk Grin did you have any thoughts that it might be a boy before you had your scan?

misskatamari · 13/09/2013 17:34

Awwww congratulations milk! Grin

Marzipanned - good tips about the drinks. I'm still not sure I'm feeling kicks so will have another Pepsi max and hopefully baby will kick! You'd better get yourself and baby marzi on grand designs when you build your dream home!

Lol at the stupid names! Stalin indeed - what a twat! I guess I can't talk with some of my choices (but DH and I have luckily decided not to use Spartacus as a middle name so we're trying!)

I had to ask for an exemption form at 16 week app too and I got it filled in and addressed with a stamp on and have no idea where it has gone so might have to wait for 25 week one to get another unless I find where the hell I've put it!

Phew so glad it's Friday! Wow - I watched a video on elements with my year 11s the other day and it showed how salt is made and mr drugs came to class today and was telling me how he's still amazed that its made from things that can kill you and he went home and told his mum all about it! Grin At least I've taught him something hey!

Has anyone got any tips for comfy shoes or preferably boots? My feet - especially my heels are really aching from standing up all day. I wear flats which are normally fine but now I just end up achey. I've got giant size 9 feet too Hmm i think someone mentioned doc martins before so am
Tempted to get some if they are comfy for standing in.

Sassy20 · 13/09/2013 17:38

Congratulations on finishing your dissertation Jazz.

Congratulations on team blue Milk. X

misskatamari · 13/09/2013 17:41

Congratulations jazz! I bet you are so relieved! Have a lovely relaxing weekend with no work to do! Grin
