Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Morning!
Almost joined the night shift last night- can't blame pg symptoms, just a big bowl of very dark choc ice-cream at about 10pm. My tolerance for caffeine is about nil, so my mind was buzzing 2 hours afterwards.

Wow- Ds is already dressed and ready for school. Had a bit of a wobble first thing, but he's now excited about a new teacher, classroom, and seeing his friends again. Phew!

Good luck Talia and those seeing Docs today.

roofio87 · 04/09/2013 08:13

natalie im so jealous, I went to bed at 10 but was up at 11 30, 1, 3, 5, 6 and 8 for a wee. where on earth does it all come from?!?! good job I have nothing to do today but go to asda to pick up some things I ordered!!
30 days till due date here, we're really on the final count down now!!!

roofio87 · 04/09/2013 08:17

ps in the first few months of breast feeding a newborn I'm going to look back on last night as a good night's sleep aren't I?!?!!!

Iheartcrunchiebars · 04/09/2013 08:24

Morning ladies!

Roofio this is completely tmi but I've found my second bladder! After going for a wee if you lean right forward you go for another wee! This means I only got up twice last night. (I can't believe I'm having this conversation!!)

Is anyone else having a second wind of energy? I feel like I'm 5 months ago and raring to go. It's so lovely after weeks of grumpiness and whinging!

Flyer747 · 04/09/2013 09:00

Unfortunately not Iheartcrunchies I'm still whining here Grin

roxvox · 04/09/2013 09:27

Second-to-last day of work, and I am taking a quick Mumsnet break after sending 1 email.

I only seem to have to get up 1-3 times in the night for a wee. But I do do the rocking back and forth thing to make sure my bladder is empty (it doesn't always work for me). Then I usually drink about one third of a pint of water before I go back off to sleep as I seem to be relatively thirsty by night.

Working from home today, which is just as well as I have the mother of all backaches. I have a MW appointment at 2.30 so will mention it to her. It's up quite high on my back, and usually a good nights sleep gets rid of it, but having had a relatively pain free day yesterday I am surprised to wake up in so much pain today!

I watched that midwife programme last night. I didn't like matey's 'We' thing either, but I do think it was a slight case of 'lost in translation'.

roofio87 · 04/09/2013 09:30

iheart I do try to do that but probably not so much in my sleep deprived state during the night, but will try to remember tonight! !

Pinkforboys · 04/09/2013 09:35

Help please!
Just got my nightshirt through in the post but it's a little tight on the hips. Not sure whether to go thru faff of getting larger size or not. Can anyone remember if you immediately lose some hip-girth after delivery? I'm def a lot wider then my norm, and I'm sure it's not all cake...

roxvox · 04/09/2013 09:54

Sorry pinkforBoys but I cannot help!

Out of interest, for those of you who know the sex of your baby, how true are you finding the old wives tales? It fascinates me that (because we don't know what we are having) people are so keen to guess what we are having and are asking me loads of strange questions/asking to see me from behind to try to work out what I am having. I know that they are called 'old wives tales' for a reason, but just for fun I would be intrigued to know what those who know what they are having think. Let's just go for a few;

  • Do you prefer savoury or sweet (sweet = girl, savoury = boy)?
  • Have you lost your beauty (yes = girl, no = boy)?
  • Did you have morning sickness (yes = girl, no = boy)?
  • Is your babies heart rate mostly over 140bpm (yes = girl, no = boy)?
  • Has your partner gained weight in the pregnancy (yes = girl, no = boy)?

That's probably enough for now Smile. According to the above I am 3/5's likely to have a boy. Although the majority of friends/relatives (and DH) think we're having a girl, but I am not convinced either way yet.

(as you can tell, my second-to-last day of work is going exceptionally well)

Tarlia · 04/09/2013 09:56

3/5 for girl but I'm having a boy, confirmed 3 times :)

roofio87 · 04/09/2013 09:59

roxvox 4/5 of thosr say yes I'm having a boy (which I am!!) well, not sure about the loosing my beauty bit but people do say pg suits me!! only one not true is the heart rate, his has always been over 150. I also have a 'boys bump' very neat and low!!

Haylebop12 · 04/09/2013 09:59

rox I'm carrying a boy. I'm craving savory, not sure if I had much beauty to begin with... Awful morning sickness, hr generally around 140, dh gained weight but think that was mainly up to the pregnancy not during it. Don't think I'm helping much Grin

TheFalconsmistress · 04/09/2013 10:04

All of them for girl 5/5 and i'm having a girl, maybe some truth after all!

Trying to have a chill day today

Good luck with hospital appointments and scans nat and tarlia

Pink glad DS went back to school ok - DD was very nervous about her new teachers and we had a bit of a wobble over her school shoes (one moment too tight, the next fine) but we made it there on time.

When she was lining up to go in, she turned to give me a brave smile and a wave but I could see her eyes were all teary.....and my heart broke just a little.

Do hope she settles in ok this term - her new teachers have a reputation for being rather strict and 'old school', whereas she's had lovely warm and friendly (but firm) ones so far.

Just trying to gather up enough energy to walk the dog - it's becoming a real challenge these days and seems to set off quite intense and uncomfortable braxtons. How are other dog-walkers coping? Impressed you are still managing such good distances Shire.

roofio87 · 04/09/2013 10:21

bridget I don't have a dog, but did walk up to our local square yeaterday, not particularily far, about 1 1/2 miles and was suprised by how hard I found it. I'm normally fine to walk there and back but got bus back yesterday. baby has changed position slightly too so my bump was really hurting by the end!! going to walk to asda today (can you tell im trying to fill my time!!) which is about 2/3s of a mile so will hopefully be easier!!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 04/09/2013 10:22

rox - don't know the sex of this baby but I've always heard that craving citrus is a sign you are carrying a girl. Last time I was pretty much mainlining orange juice all day long and had DD.

Craving orange juice again this pregnancy but not with the same intensity, much, much sicker this time around....so we will see...

PseudoBadger · 04/09/2013 10:23

Re. dog walking my 2 get at least 30 minutes off lead with a ball each which I kick around a couple of fields. I walk at a reasonably slow pace. During my first pregnancy I couldn't kick due to pgp so I used a chuckit instead, however it's not too bad this time which is good. They then may get another on lead walk after DS has gone to bed if I'm not too shattered or if I can guilt dp into doing it.

SeriousStuff · 04/09/2013 10:25

3/5 says boy but I'm having a girl, apparently...

During the day yesterday I slept for around 6 hours on and off! Then went to sleep last night at 3am as soon as I started to feel a bit dozy. Was feeling great at 7am when I got up so why, by 10.30 am I already tired!? Naps or no naps, I just can't seem to get it right.

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 04/09/2013 10:26

roofio - good luck on the asda trip...just the school run has wiped me out already. I fear my poor dog isn't going to be impressed with today's walk.

PseudoBadger · 04/09/2013 10:27

Oh and on the days I have to take DS with me to the fields the walks end up being longer (about 50 mins) and may involve me carrying him and his fecking bike for a bit too...

ananikifo · 04/09/2013 10:28

I'm having a boy and only 1/4 of those say I'm having a boy (can't go upstairs to check preg notes for hb while the phone engineer is here). I've been really enjoying orange juice as well. Not sure what my bump says.

MotherOfNations · 04/09/2013 10:42

I ate a bag of oranges every day in my first pregnancy and had a boy. Having a girl this time and heartbeat is 150 and was craving sweet things for a while. I'm not losing my looks particularly. I've even been able to give up wearing foundation and as Dp is around 17 stone anyway it would be hard to tell if he'd gained a few pounds.

Pinkforboys · 04/09/2013 10:43

I come out at 2/4 (stolen beauty & sickness) so officially could be either! I've no idea about hr as no-one's ever taken it- dr & mw just listen and say it sounds good and healthy Hmm
But the citrus craving swings it my way- I crave fizzy water with lemon & lime all the time despite it aggravating my reflux.

Bridget there were a few teary eyes in the playground this morn- mainly Mums leaving their youngest in Reception for the first time. I feel for you

And walkers- I'm impressed. I walked to yoga last night (15mins) and felt like Thomas the Tank Engine- struggling up the hills and then speeding down the other side! I hadn't appreciated how strong gravity is before this bump!

MrsHoratioNelson · 04/09/2013 10:48

Re the sweetness craving, my mum went off sugar in her tea when she had me, but my friend (who went on to have a girl) developed a sweet tooth when she was pg.

I guess this all demonstrates that the old wives takes are fun but hardly accurate Grin
