Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Natalieand · 04/09/2013 10:49

I'm having a boy roxvox and all of those old wives tales are right for me except the one about partner gaining weight.

Just in waiting room now, I've had my scan the sonographer said she can't comment too much as that's the consultants job but 'he's definately a big baby'... Grrrrrrr8

claphammama · 04/09/2013 10:52

Day two of trying to work from home with DS around. I may give up in a second and go for a quick walk in the park. The boy needs to be walked and I need a cappuccino. Both emergencies right now.

good luck with your appointments nat and tarlia!

little sleep here again... in addition to all the usual things, last night I also couldn't sleep on my left side because of my painful WC vaccine arm. How long does it take to wear off?

tarlia I would love to introduce a third language but no idea which one... I speak five in total so would love DS to speak at least three. And no idea if they are doing French at school. They didn't in reception. Do they introduce French in Year One orange? And does the language vary from school to school or is it always French?

What a beautiful day in London today? Is it gorgeous and sunny everywhere?

Haylebop12 · 04/09/2013 10:59

Just a quickie, as I've started washing baby's clothes... Is anyone washing socks too or just vests, babygros, blankets and Muslins?

claphammama · 04/09/2013 11:02

and not sure I believe in the old wives' tales. I am having a boy (again and confirmed twice) and this pregnancy is so different. My bump is very much the boy shape but I've been craving sweets occasionally (I never do normally), I had some sickness in the first months (none with DS) and the heart rate varies a lot. As to my beauty... can't see beyond the dark circles under my eyes right now... don't feel particularly attractive...

claphammama · 04/09/2013 11:04

hayle I didn't bothered with socks. The only things I didn't wash

claphammama · 04/09/2013 11:04

*didn't bother

PseudoBadger · 04/09/2013 11:15

Oh gosh I'm watching Midwives and finding it so traumatic :( sorry this will be a self indulgent post. First I felt judged by the vbac midwives, especially that one who said how 'disappointed' she was that Lauren has gone for an elcs. I wish I was as brave as people having vbacs.

Then seeing that tiny baby in nicu just like my DS (although he wasn't as tiny) - I was surprised how upset I got!

Still watching....

roxvox · 04/09/2013 11:30

Thanks for all of your feedback re the old wives tales; it's all obviously quite hit and miss! I do like reading about them though.

Fingers crossed the consultant will be a tad more helpful natalieand!

hayle I washed everything. Just because I could then see the little socks hanging up and drying and look at how cute they are and how good they smell Grin

clapham I was able to sleep on the side of my WC vaccine the day after my injection, so hopefully you'll be ok by tonight.

Pseudo it's each to their own at the end of the day, and I think that by the end of the episode it is quite apparent that Lauren made absolutely the right choice for her and her baby. Someone viewing it all externally (i.e. the vbac midwife) who wasn't there for the traumatic birth of their first child would not have any understanding of what the couple went through.

paeudo I agree. That midwife made me just as uncomfortable as the Russian couple. She runs that clinic which ostensibly supports women make their own decisions but in reality she's trying to get them all to have natural births. Sadly I bet hospital execs love it because there's a huge business case for convincing women not to choose c sections.

Iheartcrunchiebars · 04/09/2013 11:42

Why isn't midwives on iplayer? It's so annoying!

Smitten1981 · 04/09/2013 11:50

rox They're not really true at all for me, we're having a boy.

  • Do you prefer savoury or sweet (sweet = girl, savoury = boy)? Sweet by far, I'm living off cake
  • Have you lost your beauty (yes = girl, no = boy)? No
  • Did you have morning sickness (yes = girl, no = boy)? No
  • Is your babies heart rate mostly over 140bpm (yes = girl, no = boy)? yes, 150-something BPM last time
  • Has your partner gained weight in the pregnancy (yes = girl, no = boy)? yes, but because the house is full of cake, which I wouldn't have touched before

I don't need to wee in the night at all, but I do have the bladder of an ox. I just keep waking up because I can't get comfortable.

Natalieand · 04/09/2013 12:13

Out from consultant. No need for csection or 38 weeks induction but has asked for sweeps from 38 weeks as its baby no2 and induction no later than 41 weeks. Estimated weight as it stands at 34+2 is 5lb 10oz xx

ananikifo · 04/09/2013 12:16

crunchiebears I think I first found it by scrolling through all the factual titles, then today I found it by going through the TV guide, back to the date and time it originally aired. I'm not sure why it doesn't seem to come up in searches.

ananikifo · 04/09/2013 12:19

Natalie how do you feel about that? Is it a relief?

Warlin · 04/09/2013 12:24

Morning all

Good luck to all the back to school kids today. It's a gorgeous day here too clapham

bridget I'm just back from my dog walk. I'm finding it hard but a little easier than it was before baby was breech! I take my dog to the beach for an hour. We can walk down but it's quite hilly so I've been driving down and walking for an hour just along the beaches and coastal path. I tend to walk slowly but do lots of ball/ stick throwing and my dog spends most of it swimming anyway :) I then take her for another half hour trip to the park later with ds or just round the streets, depending on how the days go.

clapham glad the cake went well. I'd love to take up baking. We had a lovely long lunch yesterday, picked ds up from nursery and then he stayed over at my parents. He was a nightmare though, wouldn't settle, refused to go into his cot etc. so frustrating as he's normally good and I don't want him to start playing up for them. I think he's still teething pretty badly :(

I'm having a boy but had morning sickness, no real food cravings....exciting for those who don't know what they're having.

Good luck today nat and tarlia

mon was it yesterday you had your scan? How did it go?

Off to soft play this afternoon to let ds burn off some energy!

Flyer747 · 04/09/2013 12:28

Rox I'm also in the gender surprise gang.

I'm craving both savoury and sweet on a daily basis.

Heart Rate always over 140bpm

No morning sickness just nausea

My bump is very high all out front (not sure what that means)

As for beauty I feel I look like a minger, however others tell me i'm blooming (Personally I think they need their eyes and heads testing)

So maybe i'm having a hermaphrodite as i'm displaying symptoms for both genders.

Hope all goes ok Nat.

My dog gets a daily walk around the park, it's only a small thing so we can skip a day if needs be. This small dog found it's way onto the kitchen table last night (whilst i was watching midwifes and dp was on his laptop in the lounge) We turned around to find her happily helping herself to the last enchilada (covered in jalpaenos) little madam! It must have been payback for me putting her in the baby bjorn carrier earlier on! She was drinking water all night afterwards haha!

MotherOfNations · 04/09/2013 12:42

No scans since my growth scan last week which showed a good healthy sized baby warlin. Back at hospital on Friday where I'll hopefully get my c-section date and find out once and for all what hospital I'll be delivering at but I've got a feeling they won't tell me either of those things until I've seen the fetal medicine team on the 12th.

legallyblond · 04/09/2013 12:50

So sorry, this thread seems to have moved faster than most (will it make it until my c section.....???!) and I just can't keep up after a busy 48 hours or so. Welcome to newbies and lurkers!

DD started school today and DH has just gone to collect her after lunch. It's the first term of nursery (she's "rising 3" - 3 in Oct) but because its the nursery of her proper school (a prep /pre-prep) its very much like proper school. So she has a full school uniform complete with pinafore dress, school bag and black school shoes (surprisingly hard to find for a not yet 3 year old). She was sooooo excited and happy to go! She tried to say goodbye to us at the gates!! We said "err, actually, we'll just come to your classroom and drop you off with Mrs x"!

Anyway, sorry, just wanted to share!

V jealous of all of you with bilingual kids. I would say that 80% of my friends are bilingual as most are people I met through doing languages at a v international / euro money uni... My degree was French and Italian and have lived and worked in both countries. So through hard work alone, I speak both well but am not fluent... I don't believe I ever will be truly fluent despite obviously being able to live and socialise etc. Peopke tend to think I am fluent / native as my accents are v convincing (I am pitch perfect so I put it down to my musically trained ear!), but there's no way I'm as expressive as I am in English. DH is also English so we will try to live abroad for a year or so when all kids are at school do that they become at least relatively fluent in a second language. Tbh, I fo learn them easily so I'm hoping that is inherited!!! Still v jealous of you all though!!!

Re sleeping and those of you suffering now and then worried about bf.... I found I got more sleep bf!!! I was lucky though. DD did wake every 2 hours for months, but she was only ever awake for ten minutes or so and often I would snooze as I fed. Plus I swear that bf releases some kind of hormone that makes you less tired than you would otherwise be... I never felt totally rotten... And with your first, I wholeheartedly recommend allowing yourself to snooze any time in the day the baby sleeps. Won't have that luxury this time round..... Eek!

Tarlia · 04/09/2013 13:25

I'm home. +1 protein, bp 135/97, put my medication up from 3 to 4 tabs a day. Hopefully things won't progress as not seeing them again until Tuesday. CTG was good though apparently, noticed my BH contractions are def getting stronger on paper too, it's not my imagination.

JellyCurls · 04/09/2013 13:37

Agree with legally that bf releases a hormone that means night wakes don't leave you exhausted and also gives you an ability to fall straight asleep again after finishing.

Confession time: I have lost the ability to pee in sample pots provided by midwife. I feel runbish today so called for advice and managed to get an appointment for this afternoon. She has asked me to bring a sample with me but that's twice now I have completely missed the pot. What's happening to me???

Smitten1981 · 04/09/2013 13:55

Flyer How funny, I came home from work at lunch to find our pooch on the kitchen table too. She'd had a go at a sticky label, ripped it to bits, and that was stuck all over her in various places, but she'd left the bananas and apples!

PseudoBadger · 04/09/2013 13:58

Tarlia have you got your own dipping sticks?

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 04/09/2013 13:58

Tarlia - hope the extra tablet does the trick. What is a CTG? Sorry if that's a silly question..

JellyCurls - your post made me chortle. Just back from a midwife's appointment where I handed over the tiniest drop of wee ever - I've totally lost the peeing in a pot skill too!

I even lied and told her I'd spilt most of my sample. Too embarrassed to confess that my poor old privates now seem to send wee out in any old random direction. I think I'm going to have to pee in a bowl and then pour into the pot from now on.

Midwife said baby is head down but she couldn't work out the rest of its position despite having a good old feel (no wonder I haven't a clue) She also freaked me out at one point by asking me if I was sure there was only one baby in there!

Lots of comments about baby being "a good size" - slightly anxious now as DD was 8lb 8oz and predicted to be small!

BridgetandtheHairyBrigands · 04/09/2013 14:01

Flyer hope your little dog's tummy is ok today - not sure my pooch could handle that sort of food without serious repercussions!

roofio87 · 04/09/2013 14:39

phew back from asda, I managed the walk there and back but am now very sweaty!! its a random very hot and sunny day here!! picked up the two sleeping bags I'd ordered online as they were the cheapest I could find, only to discover that the asda ones were rolled back to only £8. i would have swapped them but they only had one asda one in so I just bought it as well. my sis said its good to have a few so once baby has pooed all over one and vomitted all over the next you've not run out!!
